Thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart. I finally tried your method. I've been clinically diagnosed with PTSD anxiety and depression. I have been struggling with alcoholism. Its been so bad that I haven't slept in two days, I punched a big dent in to my car last night. I was on the verge of doing something I'd regret. I did 4 rounds of your technique. It's gone. The urge to drink, the anger, the fear, the anxiety, the sadness is all gone, all of it. I cried tears if relieve and happiness for 15 minutes straight. I can't remember the last time I cried. You just may have literally saved my life. Thank you.

Hi David, I'm so happy for you! Please check out Richard Grannon for deeper insight into and HEALING from PTSD, C-PTSD and/or narcissistic abuse, all of which has led to my struggles with depression, anxiety and fibromyalgia. I have found tremendous relief from all of it except the fibro (which is really a syndrome of symptoms, the primary one being widespread pain). I'm going to start this breathing technique next. But, Richard Grannon is THE absolute best on YT for PTSD, etc., even though most of the time he presents in a T-shirt, lol. He is also really intelligent and hilarious! He knows when to be serious, but it has been so good for me to laugh through the healing!

    Step 1: Get Comfortable
Step 2: Breath in and out continuously (30-40 times)
Step 3: Breathe out and retain the breath-hold as long as you can, without force
Step 4: After retention, take a deep breath in and hold it for a further 10-15 seconds

      Breathing Technique Tips
Relax. A relaxed body on an empty stomach absorbs more oxygen
Feel. Don’t get too hung up on counting, feel how your body responds
Observe. Record your thoughts and retention times (but remember it’s not a competition)

archtopone retention is on the final exhale. Empty lungs. As long as you can. Then after 90-120 sec of hold (as long as possible), you inhale fully and do a shorter hold of around 15sec. Then repeat cycle.

I have extreme anxiety. I started this last week and it unbelievable! I started crying and releasing a lot of negative beliefs. Today I did it and then hopped in a cold shower. Oh my goodness! Just stayed in the shower crying and there were the most logical and wonderful thoughts in my head “you are loved” “life loves you” “you are taken care of” and I was in the shower just sobbing and crying. When I got out I felt amazing! Happy, loved, at peace and ready to start an awesome day! Thank you Wim! I’ve had anxiety since I was 7. Now at 44 I see how as a child I locked in certain beliefs and kept them through the decades and how I was finally able to release them. Simply amazing! Thank you again Wim!!

Wim Hof, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Whoever is reading, please take my comment very seriously, it's the absolute truth.
1 hour ago I saw one of your interviews, I knew nothing about this stuff at all.
Then I saw this video, and put it into practice before you finished talking. Here are the results:
    1) 1' 56"
    2) 2' 31"
    3) 2' 26"
Knowing myself I was hoping for 15-30 seconds, and then I was shocked!
I didn't try to push it at all, I didn't force myself, after 20-25 breaths I lost the count and just went with whatever felt natural.
I also missed the part of deep breath and hold in once, but it doesn't matter. At some point I began to tell myself how and when to breath and stop. My ability of thinking changed dramatically when I did this, I didn't feel like thinking too much.
I'm 40 years old, I don't do sports, except for walking, I work in computers, and smoke once in a while, but I usually eat healthy food, don't drink and don't do drugs. However I avoid the cold at all cost, and tend to stay in very warm conditions.
I've been suffering from severe "depression" for 20 years, and I don't want to go into the negative stuff, but in the past I tried medications, supplements, natural remedies, spent all my money, nothing worked. If anything SSRI almost ruined my life.
ALL I KNOW is that after 15 minutes I felt so great, I smiled and laughed for 1 minute or so. People never see me smile, and here I am feeling good alone, writing a long comment on RUclips, because it means something.
So I'm not sure what this technique will do for me in the long term, but it is truly remarkable how it was able to alter my state of mind in such a short time, FOR FREE. I'm not trying to achieve a fraction of what you did, Wim, I just want to be happy again.
The tingling, feeling light and so on were absolutely true. My arms and legs went numb at the second round already.
My hearing became very sharp at some point, I heard some ringing, not much of the visual stuff, but for a few times I was just picturing a human brain, for some reason.
The most important thing that I have learned is how the concept of time changes. Like I said, I can't hold my breath for too long, I get very paranoid and go in panic mode very quickly, so I was hoping to do more than 15-30 seconds. And what I thought were like 30 seconds, were actually 2 minutes.
I still feel a little high while writing this, and I have the impression that my mind and and my mood are "bright" somehow.
    Dank je wel Wim Hof.

Any kind of chemical that you put into your body that your body has not produced it is an external drug in any form because your body it is the biggest chemical Factory on this planet if you only know how to activate it for example our bodies have been found to have marijuana receptors that means that your body is able to produce the chemical compound that is found in marijuana and so many other drugs that have been used externally you think about that, just a tip from me, when you say you don't do drugs but you smoke cigarettes those are chemicals that you put into your body chemicals from an external source think about that. I am very happy and pleased to see people like you that are getting better in this world because we need that happening in order to have a very bright future for Humanity so take charge of your life and make your own chemistry may your path be lit with light and good luck to you. Full & Deep Inhale into the stomach through the nose and/or mouth.
Exhale a little through the mouth (just let go of the held breath, don't forcefully exhale).
    Perform 30 Repetitions.
You may get dizzy, light headed & feel tingling sensations. This is normal.
After 30 repetitions, exhale fully, completely emptying the lungs & hold the exhaled breath out for as long as is comfortable.
When you cannot hold the exhaled breath out anymore, take a long, deep breath into the stomach & then hold the breath in for 15 seconds.
After 15 seconds of holding the breathe in, return to the beginning for another 30 breaths.
    This marks a complete round.
Repeat for 3-5 rounds in total every morning.
Best performed on an empty stomach for optimal benefits.

I am so glad I somehow found my way back to Wim's teachings! One enlightened human he is 🙏
    Step 1: Get Comfortable
Step 2: Start to breathe. Fully in (nose/mouth) then let go (mouth), continuously, 30-40 times
Step 3: Last breath - breathe out, emptying the lungs. Hold for as long as you can (no force)
Step 4: After the hold, take a deep breath in and hold for 10-15 seconds
Step 5: Repeat the entire process for another 2 or 3 rounds

Joshua Pevy I suggest watching Body posture / head posture (mending) video’s. Athlean X is a great help if you are struggling with body imbalances. The moment you start exercising you”ll feel better. When you know what muscle imbalances you have, try to have good posture and do these breathing exercises again.

Joshua Pevy If its the case that your body is imbalanced (like mine was), exercises will first be really hard. You will do things wrong and it will feel hard. Push trough this, then the results come.

Joshua Pevy Ive struggled with Anterior pelvic tilt (weak ass / abs and tight, overworked lower back / hip flexors. Also (from sitting all day) I had really bad head posture, (mending will help you with this). You will have to learn to activate the inactive muscle groups and stretch the overactive ones. Brings balanceeee :)

I am a 57 year old just started doing this and it’s amazing. My tips that I have used to bring on the beautiful calmness during the breath hold extension would be some visualisation techniques. I have used looking up at the blue sky through my Apple tree just as an example or imagining energy flowing through your body.
If you listen with headphones like me with an I phone give it a periodic shake as otherwise it flips to standby and the distraction for me then breaks the breath hold!!.
At the start there is a tendency to have some fear about the unusual physical feelings but I found you just have to go with it and you’ll be ok.
Peace and love to Wim and everyone

It was an amazing feeling. Todays session was not as good because i tried sitting up and was contemplating if i should breathe in through my mouth or my nose or if i breathed coreectly and if i filled my lungs enough for it to have the same effect. After watching Wim Hof explain it himself and showcase the technique i feel confident that I will have a really good session tomorrow ! Thank you sir for this amazing gift

@@DerpyDos Whoa hey, depression can be a mental disorder but its a complicated thing, I'm not claiming to be an expert on it, but first, excluding conditional depression (which also isnt just being depressed for a min) there are separate types, clinical depression is a mental disorder in that if you can take certain pills/SSRIs and other such drugs and undergo positive effects, there's a chemical imbalance or simply it's a physiological thing (at the base, can be mental/maybe spiritual? that could be bullshit, too) and that isn't to say that if you aren't affected by any drugs, that you dont have a chemical imbalance but but if it does help or cure it that would indicate it was that. There are multiple types and peoples experiences may vary. Your journey doesn't define others but it also isn't any lesser or any less valid because of someones conflicting experience. Wow, this is pretty amazing! I tried it for the first time right after watching the video and was able to hold my breath for 2'36, 2'45, and 3'15. Previously, I couldn't hold my breath for more than 90 seconds with lungs full of air. Then I went to take a warm shower. Before I stepped out, I gradually turned the water to cold and colder and was able to stand comfortably under the cold water for over 1 minute.
Right around the 30th deep breath, I feel tingling in my limbs, numbness and warmth throughout my body, and complete relaxation. After I exhaled and held my breath, I experienced the calmest feeling I've ever felt. Then when I needed to inhale again, I was even calmer - without having to gasp for air, without having to breathe fast.
Not sure what the long term benefits will be for me, but just experiencing the immediate effects is pretty cool and promising.

This method is nothing short of amazing. I've been struggling with anxiety my whole life and much more so for about the past 7 years. Constantly running a million scenarios, criticisms, worries, and doubts through my mind. I've been looking for answers and the are so many great people offering advice and help, but I struggle with finding practical ways of implementing psychological techniques. This breathing method is so simple and easy to do and yet after I tried it my mind felt like walking into a completely white, empty room where my voice echos off the walls. And then I realized I could hear my own voice. MY voice. And it was the ONLY voice I could hear. The thing I don't understand about this is that there is a physiological pH of 7.35 - 7.45. Hyperventilating leads to respiratory alkalosis and too much alkalinity also has its side effects. I think that transient hyperventilation is great because it does oxygenate the blood and revitalizes several tissues and muscles. It also gives a feeling of euphoria. However, more than twice a day I think is overkill. They do tests in medicine called spirometry where a person has to fully exhale and then fully inhale. I remember that each time I did, I could inhale more air and exhale more because my performance was getting better. This is done for people who have asthma. I'd be very careful however, on holding your breath for too long. It's not a contest and the purpose of this exercise is to oxygenate not a breath holding contest. Wim Hof method works and I use it. The cold temperatures act to reduce inflammation. This is also why countries in colder climates have higher expectancy. Inflammation leads to cell injury. Age is simply when cells stop dividing. All cells have their pre-programmed apoptosis based on the Hayflick limit, but inflammation can make it worse. Even stress or anxiety can lead to inflammation. This is why combining Wim Hof with cold temperatures is good. The final cherry on the top is basically forgiving yourself for your mistakes and forgiving others, learning to be satisfied with where you are in life right now and being optimistic, to get past any anxiety. This my friends, is true meditation and it actually works.

Well, I'm unfortunately, currently, going through a divorce and luckily found your beginners guide to breathing. WOW, I was hooked the first time. Now, I have been doing it every day for over 3 months and absolutely swear by it. I now do 55 fast breaths and have reached 3 min 31 seconds breath hold. Though, knowing that the breath hold (time) isn't necessarily the key to the technique... I am still impressed by how long I was able to hold my breath. When, I'm done doing your breathing exercises, which is now at about 7 to 9 rounds... I feel exhilarated... I feel alive... I feel awesome and free... Ready to take on the day... I feel like I'm part of the Universal Consciousness/vibration. This is all during and divorce that I do not want to happen. However, I'm able to handle it because this gives me the perspective and this breathing technique allows me the mindfulness to deal with it. I can't thank you enough, Wim. I bought your app and I follow all the guidelines, trying to get every award that I can. Currently working on the cold shower 20 day challenge. I love them (now)... However, first I hated them... now! I have grown to love them. I tried to suggest your method to multiple people however it seems that people NEED to be in a (negative) state to accept THIS intense type of treatment. Thanks Wim!

I have just tried this properly for the first time.
I've previously done the guided version, but it worked better for me to just lie down in total quiet. I was so relaxed during the breath hold part I almost fell asleep twice.
Right now in the immediate aftermath I feel a sense of euphoric calm. I can't think of any other way to describe it.
    Thank you.

Omgosh, it's been about 30mins since I completed my first ever session of this breathing technique & I'm still processing every thing that just happened. I did 30 reps 5x's. After the 3rd I had this strong metallic taste in my mouth, felt extremely hungry out of nowhere, tingling hands & feet, could hold on the breathing a lot longer & strong urge to smile. By the last round, my tongue had gone completely numb but yet felt like I had pop rocks sitting on it, I felt heavy but light, more tingling, head crawling, nose itching, just WOW...WOW.... I'm Speechless for once.... Everything felt sooo right though. I just went with it. I'm having friends over later...oh yeah, their minds are going to be blown too. This is a part of my every day life now. Thank you so much!!!

I don't have to deal with blushing much because I am black (well when I exercise or am extremely embarrassed I get a bit red because I'm a little bit lightskin, but those are only extreme cases). Try Buteyko method. There are several research articles proven it to be effective for asthma.
And it's a very healthy method. Wim Hof method is a very unhealthy method. You might get temporary relief, but I believe it will make you sicker in the long run. It decreases the oxygen in your cells among other things.

This is just phenomenal!!! Wim Hof, you are more than a genius!
During the breaths I felt my whole body light and tingling, during the breath holding period I could feel my whole body vibrating, as if I were on a massage bed, this also seemed to strengthen me, energize my muscles and organs, even my ears felt being affected, buzzed a lot, my mind simply merged with the breath, as if going to a mental plane just focused on that.
This was the first time, far from perfect, I imagine how far I'll go if I can perform the technique with mastery and perfection. Thank you Wim Hof.

Panic, anxiety, depression, gone, replaced by energy and a connected feeling to nature. Breathing first thing in morning then get up and have a cold shower. Over time you will have break through moments and you will be in charge of your body and life once again. This is not a fad but being the way we were meant to be.

Just remember anxiety can't kill you they're just feelings and feelings are something you can control. Just take your time start of just trying one set at a time. Practicing breathing will help you with anxiety alot. I'd also recommend you try passionflower extract that has helped me quite a bit with anxiety. I get the brand Secrets of the Tribe off amazon it relaxes me and if I feel like im starting to get anxiety I take it and feel better really fast. It also helps me sleep better.

Also, he says that you will feel weird and lightheaded and you might pass out and to PRESS IN to that. I was so anxious to try, because these sound like the symptoms I'm trying to cure, but
It. Is. Breathing. If I pass out, that is good, it is expected. If I don't, also good. Lean in to the fear and the weird feelings. That's the only way I could get it to work. And then I joy-cried. 💜 Go for it!

I've been through common human issues, such as broken hip bones, serious traumatic brain injury, punctured and collapsed lung issues... it's all part of being alive. The problem arises when these things don't kill us.... then we are left in a very small section of the page... we are left in an ignored landscape... a place where we are fortunate to be alive, but so stressed out, even on "calm" mode, we are running ourselves to death. Thanks. You have increased my enjoyment of life again. I can now reset my pulse rate. I can reset my breath rate. I'm not wasting my life feeling like I am under oxygenated, when I am not.
