These two were a fantastic pair! So natural and they never go out of character LOL truly amazing I miss those days Laverne & Shirley Welcome Back Kotter.. Gilligan's Island The Brady Bunch.. kids these days will never understand no cable bill or anything but the best shows ever LOL 56 now and still enjoy it
So sad to hear of the passing of David Landers. He was so brilliant on Laverne and Shirley. One of my all time favorite TV characters. Rest in peace David.
Norm MacDonald must have loved this show. Not sure if it was highly rated but I never missed an episode in the 70s. Can hardly believe even Charlton Heston made an appearance. Thanks for posting.
May God Almighty have a special place for "Squiggy" in his Eternal Kingdom. He brought me many laughs as a child and will continue to do so now. Rest in Peace. ✌
So hilarious...the improv kings, Michael Mckean and the late Fred Willard...two of Christopher Guest’s standard movie cast members before they were famous. Rip David Landers.
Lenny and squiggy/Michael and david/Denny and Ant'ny are my biggest comfort characters and make me indescribably happy so I cannot express how much thanks I'd like to give to you for posting this ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Same here! Lenny & Squiggy/David and Michael have meant a lot to me for a long time, and I'll be posting more on this channel asap. ❤ Hit me up anytime (@Squigenny on Twitter).
@Squigenny Both were always super nice people in real life too. David Lander did an episode of Highway To Heaven that starred Lorne Greene in it. Everytime he spoke I kept expecting Lenny to come in.
Absolutely wonderful Lenny and Squiggy+ Laverne and Shirley, ahh man absolutely brilliant we in the UK" loved this program,, it seems the last of times doesn't it, life 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Oh my goodness I haven't seen this in years!!! When I was 10-11 years old I used to watch this on Nick at Nite and it was my favorite...I loooooved this particular episode the best! Thank you for uploading this...great memories. So sorry to hear about David Lander. 😞 Love you Squiggy.
The absolute authority in Barth Gimbal’s command, for co-host, Jerry Hubbard to, “SIT DOWN!!!” Immediately following his perfect Elvis impersonation was SO ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!
This is awesome! In character the whole interview, but of course that might be the shtick of the show. It always takes me a while when I see a young Martin Mull to realize he’s the same guy who played Leon the boss at the restaurant in Roseanne. Thanks for posting this! :D
One of the funniest lines I ever heard on a TV show was when Squiggy dropped his jar of insects on the floor which broke and he got up on a table and looked down and said, " from up here, they look just like little ants." RIP Squiggy.
Wow, I've heard of this appearance but never saw it until now. Thanks for uncovering it! This was during Laverne and Shirley so there's a really multi-layered conceit going on here. In their American Bandstand appearance they say that they are the real Lenny and Squiggy and that Michael McKean and David Lander are their agents. In this appearance they are Lenny and Squiggy played by Denny and Ant'ny, so in a roundabout way they repurposed their original characters into the "fictional actor" role for the Laverne and Shirley fictional characters. On the Lenny and the Squigtones album, the two outright refer in character to a project with "The Happy Days kids". If anyone autistic enough wants to unravel the multiple layers of fictional universes, be my guest.
I've found old sources claiming that the reason they go by Denny and Ant'ny here had something to do with network objections to Lenny and Squiggy appearing on the show, take this with a grain of salt but it would be in their wheelhouse to turn around and simply change names. In press interviews the boys generally stuck by the line of "we're real, McKean and Lander are our agents, Penny and Cindy are actors" (then switched back and forth between in and out of character, successfully confusing whoever was doing the interviewing).
@@Squigenny That's actually supported by dialogue within this clip. The host expresses concern when Lander says "call me Squiggy" and when Lander doesn't care, the host decides not to care either. I don't have the timestamp, but it's in there somewhere. I'm interested to know what the old sources are, since I've also done a bit of research into them enough to know that this clip was an urban legend amongst dilapidated sitcom forums until it surfaced on your channel! Heck, even the American Bandstand interview disappeared for about a year! Where did you find this interview? I filled in a bit of the band history in this article a few years back. It's a little messy but does indeed contain the band members and their characters: fakebands.com/wiki/index.php?title=Lenny_and_the_Squigtones although I will point out that contrary to Michael McKean's testimony and a few online sources, Andy Haban the bassist (circa bandstand and L&S) clearly says his name is "Dominic Baloo" and not "Balloon".
@@nimblenavigator9520 I know exactly where that comes up in this clip, good ear. One clipping I have up, I'm knee deep in newspaper archives atm: twitter.com/Squigenny/status/1380172889459204096?s=19
@@Squigenny I have to admire your efforts in archival. As cheesy and mindless as these shows were (or became), and as much as I'm tempted to judge and criticize them, they're immensely fascinating time capsules that I find myself enjoying unironically anyway. I don't know quite how to square that mentally, but the fact is for whatever reason I too have catalogued random Squigtone trivia in my time. Having dug a bit, and having seen your channel years ago, I'm intrigued that you've dug and found more information and clips where my search had ended.
Casually knocking down the fifth wall and the sixth wall, here. Michael McKean here playing an actor who plays Lenny on Laverne and Shirley. Then on another Fernwood tonight or American tonight we had Harry Shearer playing the president of the Tom Snyder appreciation society.. AS a brilliant Tom Snyder impression.. Little did we know what giants of the future of Comedy were walking among us here. I do know that as a 15-year-old watching these shows, Barth Gimble was my jam. 😊
Worth noting that the Tom Snyder shtick went back even further (and that Harry was on the writing staff for America 2-Night)! ruclips.net/video/r0kOcP0b5LI/видео.htmlsi=7mPMO3wZ_w2G_eYn
DL had his character of Suiggy down, but he didn't want have the comic repertoire that RW had. I've seen them both perform live, and been in their presence within arm's distance. Like night and day. Michael McKean is the musical one, great singer songwriter.
What amazes me is that Squiggy became a high-level AAA minor league baseball scout after his performing career if I am not mistaken. I think it was for Toronto Blue Jays... maybe Baltimore... I remember reading it in Sports Illustrated but I could be wrong...
I recall Fred doing an Elvis thing once where he grabbed his crotch and said, “I got your $&@# right here!” It was hilarious! Can’t remember the exact skit and where he did it. Anybody?
I think they auctioned it off in the series finale, a telethon to save the network. This and fernwood were insane shows. Norman lear could do no wrong at the time. This was just a whim of an idea and it found the right audience. I think they bussed in seniors from retirement homes for the audience during tapings.
RIP Martin Mull, Fred Willard, and David L. Lander. 😢 You'll always be funny. Thank you

❤
His book is a very moving read 😢
Cindy Williams “Shirley” passed away today at 75. Laverne & Shirley was very funny in large part to these two hilarious actors.
Rest Peacefully David Lander. And thanks for all the great laughs...
This is great! They had an amazing schtick. RIP Squig! Thanks for the laughs!
Norm MacDonald must have loved this show. Not sure if it was highly rated but I never missed an episode in the 70s. Can hardly believe even Charlton Heston made an appearance. Thanks for posting.
WHO cares about 'ratings' bcuz it was a GREAT show and brilliant comedy!
Lenny and Squiggy made the show...They should have had a spinoff
Martin Mull's bordering over-the-lip blonde 1970's skinny 'stache deserves some sort of award.
America 2-Night & Fernwood 2-Night were legendary.
Thanks for the great time capsule. So funny...miss this kinda TV.
RIP Squiggy😢🙏❤️
Such brilliant improv comedic acting.
This was really fast-paced and Uber witty. Hysterical really how the 4 of them were riffing off each other.
These men....all PRICELESS! RIP THANKS TO ALL ✌️♥️😁
Oh I loved this show. One of the best things about the late 1970s.
May God Almighty have a special place for "Squiggy" in his Eternal Kingdom. He brought me many laughs as a child and will continue to do so now. Rest in Peace. ✌
Martin Mull and Fred Willard are a team theirselves. I remember them from when they got married on Roseanne. RiP Fred Willard and David Lander.
I love them, they are the perfect duo... I can't help but think of them as a couple in real life lol they must've at least been best friends
RIP Martin Mull
Wish I had this whole show on DVD. Brilliantly funny.
So hilarious...the improv kings, Michael Mckean and the late Fred Willard...two of Christopher Guest’s standard movie cast members before they were famous. Rip David Landers.
My condolences to Mr Landers family this is so sad that we have lost another great one r.i.p angel

Oh no! Didn't know that David Lander died! He gave laughter and nuttiness to my 1970s childhood. Love ya always David! 🙏
I Love Lenny and Squiggy as well as Martin Fred .Comedic Genius’s !
Lenny and Squiggy cracked me up when they sang their ballad, "The Creature Without A Head" !! 😆😂👏
Watched this show, SCTV, SNL, and Monty Python on PBS in mid/late 1970's. My mid/ late teens..... High times 😜
RIP "Squiggy" and "Jerry Hubbard"
Awesome good-natured comedy and silliness that is always worthwhile!

These two were such an influences that I named my cats Lenny and Squiggy..
Fantastic cat names
This was great, thank you for sharing. 💜
I sure miss Fred Willard. And Mr. Landers too

Me too!
This is amazing, thank u for posting ❤️❤️❤️
So funny 😅😅 Thank You for sharing. They were such an amazing team. They were perfect on Laverne and Shirley.
The announcer for the product promos is the show's Producer, Alan Thicke.
And a freaking key change to boot!
Best show ever.
I've always had a crush on lenny lol
"Whoa!, ...addition!" Comedy gold. RIP Fred Willard.
You wouldn't know it, but Fred was an awesome softball player. we were on the same team back in the 80's. And he was a very generous man.
This is So great. Thank you for this. Great memories.
Lenny and Squiggy were the best part of Laverne and Shirley. Michael McKean is very talented and wrote these songs and played guitar.
That set is a trip.
I’ve always liked Martin Mull.
WHOA! Addition....
OH my.. I didn't recognize Martin Mull. And to think in 1985 Michael & Martin would reunite to make the movie CLUE! LOL hahahaha
What talent !

Brilliant!
When worlds collide!
📺 Television Gold!
I cant stop seeing Mr Green and Colonel Mustard from clue! 😂
David Lander should have been a star as big as Robin Williams. Michael McKeon is great, but David Landers completely owns it.

Aspiring comics would be wise to study this piece.
Fred Willard appeared on Laverne And Shirley.
He did his " Elvis" on SNL
Specifically Fred Willard appears in season one of L&S, "Dog Day Blind Dates". He also appears very briefly in season two's "Good Time Girls".
Fred Willard appeared on everything.
Lol 🕊 😆 🤣 😂 😹 💙 🕊 ThankYou N MuchLove!!!
Long before Best in SHOW etc.
Hit on youtube --laugh and wish there was more..........then to asleep. Funny days are gone
I got a kick out of the band leaders expressions in the back ground .
"Whoa addition....12 years old." 🤣
RIP made me laugh
3:42 . . sit down!!! 😄
Gene Parmesan?! Ahhhh! He’s the best!
Hey, it’s Saul Goodman’s brother.
Fernwood 2 Night
Is that Chuck McGill ???
Hilarious 😂 😃 😄
Fred Willard actually played a bank robber on their show
“Denny”? I thought it was Lenny?
They may have had to change the name a bit for the show
HELLO
😊
😂😆 Jerry!!
it's Steuben...
I recall Fred doing an Elvis thing once where he grabbed his crotch and said, “I got your $&@# right here!” It was hilarious! Can’t remember the exact skit and where he did it. Anybody?
I thought it was Squigmann
On L&S, I believe it was. 😂
Charles McGill
Was this a real show? 😂
It was a parody. One of the great parodies of all time. 5 days a week.
In character.Sguiggyis real
So.... was that powder blue suit with the flower patterned shirt suppose to look LESS ridiculous than Lenny & squiggy's suits? 😂
its Stubben ...........ROFL
America 2 Night had such a cheesy set.
I was a strange kid, b/c I decorated my bedroom like their studio when I was little, I always loved the props for some reason

so meta
Horrible
Barbie Benton had a screechy voice and no acting talent. None. She was Hugh Hefner’s POA and that’s it.
The original Beavis & Butthead.
