When guys like this can still make you smile decades later, I guess I have to call that success. David Lander just died. May he rest in peace. He did his job.
Im 54 years old and these guys totally crack me up to this day. I remember seeing this when it first came out. Thank you guys for a good laugh my entire life.
You too? Not joking, the chorus still pops up in my head now and then after all these years, completely randomly. The stuff we remember from those formative years...!
Wow David St. Hubbins has the American accent down like he's lived here all his life. Glad to see he had a gig before becoming a rock and roll god with Nigel. Love the Les Paul Jr he's holding...TV Yellow.
This is classic stuff I remember seeing this as a kid. The song is going along quite well and then that clarinet just kills it. I cracked up when he pulled that out.
Man when I was in gradeschool. For a while these two were my idols!!!! I loved Leonard Kowsnowsky and Andrew Squigman aka Lenny and Squiggy!!! There was nothing cooler than the Fonz , Shanana and Lenny and Squiggy!!!!!
Yeah, McKean is a very decent rhythm player. He’s using a beautiful Gibson Les Paul Jr. On black & white TV broadcasts of the 1950’s, that color was known as “TV Yellow”. It was designed to be picked up by those early cameras as off-white, without looking too glaringly bright. Leslie West of Mountain used one at Woodstock, and he recorded “Mississippi Queen” with it.
@@fozzieatdetourbillnye5514 yes i did. very good acting. too bad they killed him off so early. i thought that BCS was interesting . but after saul and the other female lawyer got intimate, i lost interest. NETFLIX IS TRASH. REALLY!
Forgot about this. Great stuff! I remember they sang "Night after night" , which I liked even better. Though you can't beat the clarinet solo at the end of this one.;)
"Night After Night" was a better song, but this was a funnier scene. I guess it evens out. [and hello from 14 years in the future, Zan Z!! I hope you're still well].
When Lenny & the Squigtones appeared on American Bandstand in 1979, they added Nigel Tufnel (aka Christopher Guest). Later Nigel (Christopher Guest) and Sqiggy (Michael McKean, aka David St Hubbins) plus Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) formed Spinal Tap - and the rest became rock & movie history.

"I'll tell you where we're gonna park it". Hilarious.
Fun fact: An actual album was released "Lenny & Squiggy Present Lenny and the Squigtones", by the Casablanca label in 1979. This was the precursor to McKean & Rob Reiner getting the idea for Spinal Tap.
Don't cry because of David. We all have to go eventually. It's nice to have had him as long as we did especially battling a serious diesease (sorry for the misspelling) one the took my grandpa. And he did and still will make us smile and laugh decades later. He's definitely did his job. RIPr. Lander.
The album that they came out with in the 70s was great...I have it in storage somewhere and other than a couple of other albums I will keep for the sake of nostalgia, Lenny and the Squigtones is the one I want to listen to. P.S. I saw them in concert back in 1979...they played at The Riverside in Milwaukee.
Memories of watching Lenny when I was a kid, and loving him so much. I could have never envisioned Chuck McGill so many ears later, but I love him just as much.
The coolest uncool guys in the history of television. .Young dudes take note,,, being cool is about not even giving a shit if nobody else thinks you are but you. Then the coolness just envelopes you
I taped a Honda commercial and id play it over and over trying to get my Dad to buy me a motorcycle. It went "you're ahead, you're ahead on a Honda". Took til i was 16 to get that bike ! He got me an old one called Hodaka Ace 100. Before Honda.
McKean and Lander also appeared together in the feature film "Used Cars", starfing Kurt Russell. They played a couple of electronics "hackers" who helped Russell with obtaining free TV advertising....
Just seeing Michael McKean in anything ever since growing up seeing Spinal Tap and all the Chris Guest films, makes me laugh just seeing a still of him. Love him and obv Lander too
When guys like this can still make you smile decades later, I guess I have to call that success. David Lander just died. May he rest in peace. He did his job.
he'll likely rest in pieces, according to his band credit(s)
RIP great show
It was the writer’s script and dialogue
@@jessicavandenekart1461Right. Do you know who wrote most of Lenny and Squiggy’s lines and all of their songs?
Lennie and Squiggy. Two of the most memorable characters in TV history!
😂🤪
HELLO!

Michael McKean-hard to hide real musical talent here. Spinal tap. LOL
No, it came through :)
See also “A Mighty Wind” btw.
@@LetsGoMetsGo33what do you mean, No? He's saying it came through!
@@johnlafever3162 i misread it as “he HAD to hide”, which I interpreted MM was playing bad on purpose,
Isn’t he from that group The Originals?
@DarthGeddy or was it the NEW originals, or the regulars?
“Lollipops & Caviar “ hella great!
They sound better than what's on the radio today
Absolutely
Do you remember their Christmas song about drunk Santa?
Pure talent.
@@JimmyJets-ld8tc that's a good one too, very funny
Who on earth still listens to the radio?? There is lots of excellent music out there. You just have to look and not stay tied to the past.
Lenny and Squiggy, you were pure genius. Funny then and still wonderful today. You are gone but never forgotten ♥️
There will never be a better comic duo in sitcom history.
“We’re like lollipops.. and caviar
...so we’ll drive up.. to the reservoir”.
Gold.
"And throw each other in."
"It's dedicated to Joanne and she knows who I am" LOL
Even though it's a sin, we'll throw each other in..
I always love the fist-pumps Squiggy does inbetween Lenny's verses.
RIP David Lander
Me too! Lmao I can still envision it years later after watching it for the first time. RIP "Squiggy", Penny and now Cindy. 😪
Classic!!! Thank you for the laughs!!
* The humor was that 3 or 4 guys doing those Squigtone moves would've been cool BUT 1 Squigtone ws hilarious! ☺
I wish they had done a lot more of "Lenny and the Squigtones."
there is a bunch they did, I had the album as a kid....lol.
They made a few albums. Maybe they're available for download somewhere?
I agree! I luv it!
i have the record of quite a few of their songs!:)
For anyone who's never heard it, I do have the full Lenny and the Squigtones album up here: ruclips.net/video/mycw1jeDKw8/видео.html

He gets a lot outta that single pickup Paulie
It's actually a very distant cousin of St. Hubbins. Very, very distant.
Pure fucking gold. No other way to describe it.
Oh Yes Best Description is Comic Solid Gold 🏆
At 78 yrs old, I STILL call that talent.
I'm dying here cracking up, loved these guys.
Back then one actually had to have this new thing called talent..
G Mason could. Not. Agree more
They'd be a hit now.😃 wouldn't even have to sing or play real instruments.🎺
And one was Squiggy.
And a 60s LPJ
lol 3:11
I'm heartbroken by the loss of David. Still made me laugh even though I'm sad as hell💔
Then my friend..he has done what he was born to do.
Make us laugh 😂 and 😭 cry.
I look at it as he survived 35 years with a deadly desceise. That's inspiring to me
Will miss you David Squiggy Landers! Lenny and Squiggy pure comical talent!
I actually saw him in a Quiznos in SoCal about 20 years ago. 😊
Miss him too! 😞😞😂😂😂😂
Still love kicking a door open, sauntering in and saying "...Hello!".
After the usual question concerning something dirty, stupid, or morally lacking....
"HELLO!!!"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Squiggy using his arms to punctuate the snare hits kills me.
Love it!! “Star Crossed….we’re like lollipops and caviar….Star Crossed…”
😅😂😅😂
Lyrics being hilarious aside, the sound is quite beautiful. RIP Mr. Lander.
Rest easy Squiggy. Thanks for always putting a 😊 on my face.

Best episode of the whole series! May the cast members we lost rest in peace. Miss you guys!
2020 sucking more. Thank for the laughs David.
"We're like lollipops and caviar"...hahaha!
This show was one of my favorite shows to watch. So funny. I enjoyed when they would combine Happy Days and Lavern & Shirley 😂
I remember I actually liked this when I saw it 1000 years ago. It still hangs.
How on earth did they get through that without bursting into laughter??? Comedic gold ❤❤❤

These guys would have made going to school fun.
Yeah, but spending 7 years with them in the second grade might have gotten old.
"We kiss in a phone booth or under a car"... LOL

"Drive up to the reservoir.... and throw each other in..." (!!!)
Thise Two were great 😂🤣
1:07: “And, it’s dedicated to Joanne…and she knows who I am.”

I thought one of their performances Shirley ( Cindy Williams) got angry and stopped them. Enough!!!!
My favorite bit from the L&S series. Funny every time I watch it.
They had a shot until Squiggy pulled out that clarinet! LOL
michael mckean is very talented...

This is a very beautifully composed Doo-Wop song. Other than the obvious humor, this would have been a hit back in the day.
I loved Happy Days, and Lavern & Shirley as a kid, no effing controversies, just good ole' silly fun...!!!
