  • Lenny and the Squigtones is a fictional musical group headed by Michael McKean and David Lander, the two actors who played the characters Lenny and Squiggy on the television series Laverne & Shirley. The group's eponymous debut album, Lenny & Squiggy Present Lenny and the Squigtones, was released on the Casablanca label in 1979. The album is now a collector's item because of credited guitar work by future Spinal Tap member Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest). A photo on the inside cover also includes two band members who look a lot like Derek Smalls and David St. Hubbins of Spinal Tap. Also includes "Murph", the keyboard player from The Blues Brothers, and "Ming the Merciless," purported to be Kiss drummer Peter Criss without his famous "cat" costume and make-up, though Criss denies it was him.

I'll do a little name-dropping here: My Mom was friends with David's cousin, Geraldine Wilner. She knew I was a huge fan, so invited my mom and I over for a BBQ that David & family would also be attending in the Bixby Knolls area of Long Beach. I was 16 (1979). Very nice guy. Shortly after, he put me on his guest list at Paramount Studios, and I got to go watch countless tapings of "Laverne & Shirley", "Happy Days" and "Mork & Mindy". Those were good times.

I remember Jonathan Winters coming over and talking to me & my buddy about Baseball. Also remember once where Robin Williams came out in a bath towel (scene called for it) and behind the couch, he dropped his towel in front of Pam Dawber (Mindy)...on purpose! By PD's reaction, he had nothing on under that towel. Some of those M&M tapings took 2-3 hours because of his improvising and shenanigans.
