This was still during the hour-45 minute era of the show (a throwback to the early days when the late local news was only 15 minutes). Johnny stopped doing the first 15 minutes because he didn't want to do two monologues. The show was cut down to 90 minutes in 1967 (and later to 60 minutes in 1980). The longer shows allowed for the lengthy conversations. It wasn't uncommon to have these kind of longer interviews and skits.

I wish I had lived in an earlier era. In my opinion, life was better back then. The 1950s were a time when wives took care of household chores and cooking. People dressed up in fancy attire, and life seemed easier, especially within the nuclear family. At the dinner table, conversations were conducted politely, with each person taking turns speaking while others listened attentively.
4:15// from what i have been told, dean martin did all his tapings on Sundays. so he could have the rest of the week to Golf, and do other gigs. /Dean is known for being able to Act, sing, Dance, and also be in tune with the audience a Total Package, perfect for any show
Absolutely incredible to see these two super legends on TV at the same time!!! I was only several months old at this airing, and glad to see this RUclips Johnny Carson channel is able to pull out what has to be a definite super incredible video from their vault .... I thought most of the Johnny Carson videos from mid 60's and earlier had been lost, so this is a real treat!!! :o) Really great to see a very young Ed McMahon as well, including doing a commercial on show.
Once Dean & Frank were on stage, Dean had a drink in his hand and then asked Frank for a drink, Frank said you have a drink, Dean said “is that my hand”.

This is so very much beyond legendary Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra were PERFECTION! Dean is in TOTAL CONTROL of his routine Frank knows how to fade out and charge in and be cool all the while Joey Bishop was Joey Bishop. It worked here. Was Ed drunk‽ The Legendary Lee Canady almost met Frank Sinatra backstage in Detroit, but his date embarrassed him too much, so he went home. It was a double date with a local, POWERFUL judge. Such a wild story (there are further details that some might think even crazier). I will pray for America. Please pray for me. God Bless you.
not in a thousand years will we ever see a singer take the stage and perform a live song like Frank Sinatra just did in this video, had to replay the part 3 times

Sammy Davis Jr was so talent he could sing dance act make comic
What a great show. I have watched it so many times, I know all of the words that both Dean and Frank and Joey say. I never tire of this one. I wish there were another one........Betsy B
I agree
Never seen a more stacked guest panel 😮❤
Love these two. Best singers ever. So funny together, too.
The SIZE of that ashtray! 😂😂 Terrific show! ❤
Three of the Rat Pack on at the same time...😂
Yes. Too bad Sammy Davis wasn’t there. and Peter Lawford. Can you imagine what that would have been like ? Just once - why didn’t they do it ?!
"Don't light anything near him Frank." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It is great that we can call up these moments on RUclips. I miss this crew of people.
Class and talent...a rare combination these days...
These iconic entertainers are from my parent's generation. I miss them!
This was great tv. I wish we could get back to it.
I f-ing love the cigarette commercial at the break!
Best song Frank’s favorite and omg did he sing it ♥️🥰
The pure greatness of Franks voice
Once Dean & Frank were on stage, Dean had a drink in his hand and then asked Frank for a drink, Frank said you have a drink, Dean said “is that my hand”.
😂
A time machine to an almost fairy tale age. Im european / bulgarian born in 1990 but 50's and 60's US has always been one of my favorite ages and places to daydream about - Ive always wished I could port to it and this does the job
I am 72, and I am very, very happy to be born when these greats were walking on the earth, making people happy and joyful with their wits and music. Jgd the yogi Raj
The Matt Helm movies were really good with Dean. They had a bunch of them on TCM one Saturday.
This is so very much beyond legendary
Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra were PERFECTION!
Dean is in TOTAL CONTROL of his routine
Frank knows how to fade out and charge in and be cool all the while
Joey Bishop was Joey Bishop. It worked here.
Was Ed drunk‽
The Legendary Lee Canady almost met Frank Sinatra backstage in Detroit, but his date embarrassed him too much, so he went home. It was a double date with a local, POWERFUL judge. Such a wild story (there are further details that some might think even crazier).
I will pray for America. Please pray for me. God Bless you.
The greatest entertainers of that and this era!!
True professionals, no rehearsing, just being themselves.
These two were of the same era of my father. So, I have seen them for a long time. Still enjoying them.
not in a thousand years will we ever see a singer take the stage and perform a live song like Frank Sinatra just did in this video, had to replay the part 3 times
I was mesmerized by his performance. How fortunate adults in the US of that time were to have had the opportunity to hear him live.
Such a classic never going see tv like this again love Frank,Dean, Joey legends. ❤
Sinatra's voice speaks straight to your soul
I agree
Jeez I’m getting lung cancer just watching them ugh those guys are the real deal !
Me too
