    Birth of Lenny & Squiggy: Michael McKean // SiriusXM // Unmasked • Birth of Lenny & Squig...
    Michael McKean explains how an impromptu improv performance led to Lenny and Squiggy becoming regular characters on "Lavern and Shirley." On the original series "Unmasked," McKean describes to host Ron Bennington how he and David Lander developed the characters while performing in the famed Chicago improv scene. "Unmasked" is where comics from Jimmy Fallon to George Carlin have sat down for informal conversations about life in comedy and the art of the laugh.

      Always right after Laverne or Shirley said something really disgusting too, which was their cue to enter the room. Used to make me laugh every time. But then, every once in a while, they could be sincerely humble and heartfelt, like in this: One of my favorite scenes in the history of Laverne & Shirley. (For setup, Laverne thinks she might be pregnant and is wondering what to do): ruclips.net/video/o0K13cTMNLE/видео.htmlsi=fJH1EXoJivpyFyJb&t=250

    I don't know if I've ever seen McKean do a bad job. Even in the innumerable one-off characters he shows up as in sitcoms and such, he's always good, and not uncommonly the best thing about the show. He kicks ass in Celebrity Jeopardy! too.....

    • @JustWasted3HoursHere

      He actually played "fear" (itself!) on an episode of Star Trek Voyager, which some people thought was a dumb episode buy I heartily disagree! Here's a clip from the finale of that episode: ruclips.net/video/LYwEaBu6lfQ/видео.html The episode is called "The Thaw". Basically some of the crew gets stuck inside a simulation of sorts where the original program has become pure fear and prevents the consciences of the original people from leaving.

    Michael McKean is one of the nicest people I have ever met...back in 1979 when Lenny and Squiggy played the Riverside in Milwaukee. I worked backstage and what a gentleman. I can't say as much about Dave Lander but his lot later in life became more difficult. I have their album...I hear it is a collector item.

    • @sabrinan4792
      @sabrinan4792 4 года назад +4

      @@JustNess78 I am MeMe...David Lander seemed effected by stardom. He was a bit of a diva. His dissatisfaction was uncomfortable to witness. Oddly, I met Michael Mckean a couple years ago. It was after a movie screening in L.A. and I mentioned the L & the S show I worked at in Milwaukee. He was not very jovial or kind and twisted everything I said. Very disappointing. Big difference between then and now.

    • @MeMeDaVinci
      @MeMeDaVinci 10 месяцев назад

      Just for the sake of posterity...I'm looking at old clips of the music since Michael McKean did with other cast members on Laverne Shirley. I came across season 6 episode 21, sing sing sing. I know I probably saw it way back, but I knew someone who submitted a script for Happy Days and used my name because they liked how it sounded for a new girlfriend for Richie, but they had already decided on a different script for that purpose and the name Lori Beth. But closer to my experience with working for the promoters of the Lenny & the Squiggy music show in Milwaukee in 1979, I would like to think that they used my name, Sabrina, because I worked backstage, setting up the green room and party they had for the band and record company folks, etc. Scripts are submitted far in advance, but the name for the waitress in Sing Sing Sing would have been at Michael McKean's suggestion or completely random, so who knows? I had severely twisted my ankle carrying ice and it was Michael McKean that was kind to me because he just was. I wish he was nicer when I met him again, not because he was before, but just because he could have been and should have been.

    I would love to hear Mr. Michael, do a straight song. I always thought he had a great singing voice. I thought they were great in what they did.

      The guys from Spinal Tap play a folk trio. McKean also composed some songs for the movie, including one nominated for an Oscar.

    In 2017 after a church shooting in Sutherland Springs Texas, McKean said, "They were in church. They had the prayers shot right out of them. Maybe try something else."

    I used to enjoy watching "First In Show" and "A Mighty Wind", but after that, McKean is no longer welcome in this house.
