You know it's a big 'un when it requires a gas pony motor to start the primary diesel engine
Hell no, a locomotive like this ones fit inside a Wartsila Sulzer ship engine, and they get started with compressed air.
My John Deere Model R tractor and Dads D7 Cat both have pony motors to start their main engines.
To everyone complaining about pollution… you do realize that these engines have moved more freight in their lives then millions of semi trucks could have managed. If you calculate pound for pound and mile per mile, these engines were crazy efficient. Obviously nothing compared to modern tier 4 emission units, but still for their day they were efficient.
why am i watching train videos when i have an assignment due tomorrow
The good old Alco RS3 is one of my favorite diesel road engines to ever hit the rails despite their mechanical flaws.
Awesome video friend big cold start locomotives on the track keep up the good job bless you stay warm inside
Do you like these ALCO LOCOS ? :)

We have these locos in Malaysia by the name of YDM4. They are on loaned from Indian railway.
Cars and Engines .......absolutely. Thanks for sharing
@@itz_toca_mimi YDM4s have almost gone extinct in indian railways 😞, but a Broad gauge shunting locomotive named WDS6 has the same engine and they are like everywhere
Ofcourse
Very nice! I like the captions too!!! Always craving information.
Love hearing those turbos spool up at start-up on these videos

Super movie !! Choo choo 🚂🚂🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋
ALCO LIVES.
Yea man. Slowly Alcos in my country are being replaced with EMD or Electric ones.
@@RCLepcha Thats happening faster in India .
@@thischannelhasbeenabandone4195 ik I'm also Indian
Gracias por tu video saludos desde Mexico
Thanks I enjoyed revisiting those old ALCO’s
My grandfather operated an EMD E unit for the Boston & Maine ran the pulp train from West Lebanon NH to Littleton NH... I got to ride a few times, I still have his kerosene lantern.
Excellent sample of ALCO sound
0:36 I see that 2T22 back there
When God made diesels, THIS is how he wanted them to sound.
Lotta cool engines in here !!!
Lotta cool engines in here! Tucker snow-cat at 2:26 is waiting at the station.
Rudolf Diesel is my favorite composer.
Alco S2 and S4 could be told apart by the Blount trucks under the S2 and road trucks under the S4, which was the only real difference. Bell position was at the request of the purchaser, and was mounted under the car body on most B&O models.
Euro 6, standard.

Hurrrr original

very cool & nice!
Very nice video! 🚂👍
Oke Apikk👍👍
MUSIC TO MY EARS. !!
WAY to GO! an RS or Road Switcher by American Locomotive Company, Bay Coly had 1 for a while.
Told my boss at the I time I really liked it, yup he was pleased.
Oh yes, Alco. This is the song of my people.
I love old alcos
Old Alcos!!!👍👍👍😎😎😎
Happy earth day lol
Very Nice vídeo 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you
The diesel in the Thumbnail Though …
Quite impressive how much smoke it’s releasing.
Amazing!!!!!
HI FROM THAILAND 🇹🇭🇹🇭😊😊
The switcher's difference was mainly with the trucks: one for switching and the other for branch line use.
Sounds just like me when I wake up
The big difference between the Alco S2 and S4 were the trucks used. The S2 had the blunt truck and the S4 had the AAR switcher trucks.
#1 should have been Buffalo Creek 43, an HH660 ALCO, just go listen to that purr as it runs.
Like video. Have subscribe to your channel.
I love train🚂
2:45 OMG It's the 611!
What is 611
@@rajachowdhury869 The 611 is the sole surviving J class 4-8-4 of the Norfolk And Western. The class was the most powerful 4-8-4 ever built. 611 was completed in 1950.
Turbos the size of platters wow
I use to work of the type of locomotive’s in Nashville Tn big old pistons an power houses .
W porównaniu do tego dymienia nasze nieco dymiące 1.9 TDI jest giga ekologiczne !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The RS3 is pretty hellfire actually. I tend to think of American diesels as having quite muted exhaust sounds but clearly it's not always so.
Gordanovich02 ......most of the newer ones are rather tame but the older ones like the Alcos or Baldwins make wonderful sounds
Gordanovich02 Um muted exhaust sounds? What do you mean muted exhaust sounds!? Have you not heard an SD45 in notch 8 or an SD40 doing a load test? Have you not heard 3 ES44DCs and a C44-9W muscling along a manifest drag?
You can feel a P42 (GE, I think) idling if you are next to it.
🤤
not many crazy cold starts in this video
1:48... Now, that's what I'm talking about!!!
5109!!!! toledo lake erie and western in grand rapids ohio
JosS 👍
2:44 I see 611
Хорошо воздух загрязняют
You don't even show the full footage. You cut it off right in the middle of the good parts.
When a train is cutting grass its a been a while.
Nice to see the rail industry doing their bit to reduce emissions.....Lol😷💨
Adrian Morris mate these locomotives are older than the concept of reducing emissions and are all rather rare. Newer locomotives have much cleaner emissions.
Why am i watching this at 2 am on a school day?
How dare you
angry greta
Man Diesel engines don't like the cold
No wonder they leave this things running in extreme cold weather. I use to work 3rd shift and sometimes when I came to work they would be just sitting on the tracks running and no one around. Always wondered why.
Best smell ever!!diesel fumes cold start
You can almost smell the warming of the climate
@@RameshKSingh-gp2mx I’m not one. I was just making a joke. Once running, these engine are rather efficient.

Dit is geen luchtvervuiling of toch wel?

Freight train baby
Euro 6 🤪
Diesels are neat but steam you can used car or used Diesel engine oil for fuel verses wood or coal.
Huh?
I’m sorry what?
Al gore just had a heart attack
Good.
you can see the original video for the Alco S2 featured at 3:58 here at this link: ruclips.net/video/Px5nvG4tNkk/видео.html - we have a couple of cab ride videos, too, from this same S2 on the same day
Oldest loco ever
Areo start is your friend
Must have tier 0.1 emissions lol
Eletric heater or driyer and problem will GONE! For good!
Wow, what a dirty mess! Not exactly clean and green, but spectacular.
The RSD1 sounds awfully like a Class 20
I was going to comment the first was very like and English Electric!
Under teak. Laws of our praise to our lord ourselves our new ones.
india has the best alcos
You are only thinking about your old country , without USA , we would never even have any ALCo or EMD
Terrible wind noise...
*ALCO foamers please rise for our national anthem*
Chug chug chug chug chug chug chug chug chug chug jug jug trug chug chug chug
SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM OR ALL ALCOS WILL GO EXTINCT
Scam where is the via alcohol like thumbnail shows
Is this another click bait ?
I clicked on to see the Via
Hmmm, maybe I'm biased being a Brit, but I didn't feel any of these American engines had the grumpy, snorting, filthy rattle, chuff and snort of the British designs like English Electric or Deltic! Still, highly enjoyable, if only for the feeling of slight superiority engendered!😀
BR diesels are in a class of their own, being grumpy, snorty, filthy and clagging like hell 😂
Can anyone tell me the name of the locomotive displayed in the thumbnail of this video?
Alco FPA-4
datsunman_b210 Thank you for your response
The model of WDM1
Do you have to be sort of a mechanic to operate these? Assuming just in case you break down In bumfuck Egypt or the forest or something?
Sheldon?
The amount of pollution isn't a surprise considering, well ya know.... *A L C O*
Choo Choo
It’s honk honk you indoctrinated fool.
@@thatoneguy611 Chooooo Choooooooo
@@thedirtybubble9613 diesel locomotives don’t have whistles.
@@thatoneguy611 Don't care. It's called having an imagination and taking a joke every so often. Not everything in this world needs to be literal.
@@thedirtybubble9613 I was hoping you would realize my first comment was a joke.
False advertising. I see no Via!
What a fail of a video! At no point did I see any cold starts! White smoke is unburnt fuel, the trains hadn't even started up before you cut the video!
You missed the beginning. That is what happens when you get to the theater when the movie is already playing, you miss the start of it. Did you pay full price to get in?
Germany have the best trains
Unbelievable amounts of suit. Wonder if that has a part in our global warming
Still cool though
Yes _suit_ is a problem is it not? 😏😏
I object to the HP adverts.....HP is a dirtbag company......they killed Compaq.
ALCOs disappeared mostly because they smoked too much. Some, the PAs & FAs, smoked as much as steam locos.
Ernest Imken They smoked because of turbo lag and improper maintenance.
Ernest Imken.... that is completely False. 1) Alco waited too long to get into the Diesel locomotive "race". 2) Alco's 244 prime mover had too many "issue's" due to being "rushed" into production, trying to make up for lost time. 3) Alco's follow-up 251 engine was much better, however... Alco relied on GE for all their electrical components, and without going into the myriad of details and time frames... in a "nutshell", GE stabbed Alco in the back.
All in all... between the WPB (War Production Board) stepping in, in 1942 with their production limitations, and just overall... bad timing, some poor decisions, GE's "cut throating" tactics.. beginning with their under-selling of Alco's export business, which Alco heavily relied on... especially to India, etc,etc,etc... they were "doomed".
As a car mechanic and petrolhead I can enjoy the roar of a heavy diesel the howl of the turbo and the smell of oil and smoke but!! This inefficient piece of technology has had its day. As an answer to the steam engine, after 100 years of innovation, it is still a spilling machine. The 37% efficiency for diesel engines is an insult and should stop tomorrow. Not just for trains but all petrol and Diesel engines. The environment is not helped by this. Build nuclear power plants and go electric or hydrogen
Nah, we good. Go to the UK and help them with their 1/4 mile "long" trains while in Америка the "long" trains over a mile long run on diesel. Go hug some trees, tovarich.
ALCos deserved to be extinct , they got so much hate just cause they are old. Same with steams locos
I wish ALCo haters never even existed
@@RameshKSingh-gp2mx Listen dear thinker! The moment it's not up your alley, it doesn't give you the freedom to rationalize everything to the bone.
As a sane person you have hurt me. We are done talking, when the environment is done with you!
Where is the Loco from the picture?
I hate click bait 👎🏻
Oh boohoo
What did you expect, these are aclo loco that one isnt
I agree.
This was dumb
Scrap the 🚃🚂diesels. go electric🚋🚊 locomotive. avoid global🐒 💬 warming and pollution. 🎃.fan
Boo hoo. Sure, just scrap all diesel locomotives and watch as every coal power plants has to burn 10 times more coal to power the electric locomotives, achieving nothing to save the climate and losing money along the way.
@@thatoneguy611 There are many more ways to get electricity that are eco freindly like water, solar, wind, natural gas, geotermic energy and way more.
@@folkeklarstrom3668 HAHAHAHAHA Burn GAS and Diesel baby. Plenty of it. Constantly being produced.
