Too bad Clouds stuff breaks even using other brands tail caps. Modlite in deployment use is what we strive for in target acquisition and PID. Color clarity is true to life. We tried the HRT and that would be a fairly close second but terrible at burning through oncoming blinding headlights that all these car manufacturers are starting to use and with a competing oncoming light source, our unit notice it still pushes blinding light through a car windshield and make a threat assessment. Ultimately we have all ditched our surefire and used our allocated funds to equip our unit with modlite. Cloud defensive is a no go as well as sure fire. Modlite and if we were able to purchase HRT we might have but I think the general consensus in our unit is Modlite. In talking with other battle buddies and friends that are LEO and UPS drivers, they all agree Modlite especially my friends that deliver late at night in rural areas where finding a home address that is not visible. Okw head is super nice but the plhv2 with the unity tailcap is a great all rounder. Cap off a rail mounted light with the lightweight low profile reptilla body and this thing rocks along with the cost saving of going with a reptilla body, okw or plhv2 (with programmable head option) and the unity gascap and that’s a winning tactical setup.

For my current usage the HRT AWLS is litteraly the *perfect* platform. I have both the full size and compact. I don't run any kind of night vision setup and was never a fan of actuation through pressure switch.
It's 1 piece design keeps it nice and light weight while being extremely tough and out of the way. If you don't like the tail cap you can literally unscrew it and use a traditional button which makes the light body even smaller. No light on the market even compares to size and power.

In your handheld video you report 68,520 candela for the OKW but report significantly higher here.
In my testing at 2 meters I reported similar numbers as you did in your handheld video. I understand a slight difference due to chip but sn approximate 16.75% increase in this video…?

They should have made the tailcap compatible with surefire. I can't run any dual switches with any ir lasers. And I have that big cloud pressure pad on my rail taking up to much space. There was not nearly enough footage in here of the lights actually being used in a typical situation you might use them in. There was barely anything for us to compare and look at in any meaningful way. Results speak loudest. Numbers on a page recorded from the results of tests with arbitrary methodologies that have don't have true environmental validity. We need to know what it's like to actually USE the light, and how it's going to perform in a wide variety of situations with different lighting, different types of foregrounds, different types of backgrounds, how they perform against photonic barriers, etc.

I shot about 100 rounds of 7n6 2 different times hosing the gun down really well after each time the gun has 0 rust anywhere on it. I unplugged the switch the other day to find it full of corrosion meaning that oring does not seal the port adequately. Really disappointed. I should have bought the original. I’ve got the javelot tac and micro rein 2.0 on two different rifles. You can tell the cloud is higher quality but beam pattern and output is basically a wash. Cloud is a warmer tint that I like. Cloud has a smaller pressure switch which I like, but the momentary button is very hard to press and can flicker if you don’t press it hard enough. Threw an arisaka mount on the javelot tac since the stock mount wouldn’t allow the pressure switch mounted next to the light. Love the magnetic charging ability of olight but hate that you have to use the proprietary 18500 battery that can’t be charged outside the light. For half the price, can’t go wrong with olight for casual use.

I am also interested to see what Shan's results are with the Javelot Tac. My garage gear shows it to be pretty on-spec: almost exactly 1000 lumens and 80000 candela. Olight doesn't specify the beam intensity in candela, but the 600 meter throw translates to 90000 candela. Even though that's an 11% difference in candela, the beam distance is only off by 6%.

    Cloud defensive sucks ass.
Long story short I had a mch hc edc and mch duty. Every light flickered. It's a huge problem in their fb page group. 3 posts daily about their light flickering. Cloud kept sending out tail caps. That was just a bandaid to a bigger design flaw in their lights. 2 months later they would flicker again.
Funny I was on a call clearing a house with 2 other officers. I had to stop and fart arohmd with the duty light to get it to stop flickering. Had to unscrew it take the battery out and fart around to get it to not flicker anymore.
That was the last straw for me. I got all new tail caps and sold the lights off. That's whete I draw the line. Been a flashlight enthusiast for years and none of my other lights do this. Something to do with the battery not making full contact in the light there for the flicker. I believe the batteries are too short. They need to figure their crap out

Thanks for the feedback! We have products here from both companies... so many lights... so little time!

They're more a novelty than a practical use item on a rifle for most instances. See Brass Fact's thoughts on the subject here:

@@freneticfanatic i understand the sentiment, but that video focuses on only one company, and doesn’t bring up the different caps that allow the LEP to have spill aswell as throw. ( ruclips.net/video/QPE1GO-Bf2k/видео.html )This video has a better view of top lights going head to head, and in the video they show the LEP with caps on

Love the tests you do! All of the lights are basically the same, I have run a OKW for a couple years and I recently bought the SureFire Turbo which I'm happy with because it's SureFire, simple as that

Any chance the TLR-1 HPL will make it into the second tier of lights?

The budget lights do include a Streamlight... Video is being produced, so should be out "soon".

Shame the HRT is a direct M-LOK mount only from what I have seen. The SureFire and ModLite hole spacing works great with my Unity Tactical Hub and LightWing, and I'm not sure but it looks like the CD REIN 3.0 might be compatible, too.

You can use the torch head from the awls on both modlight & surefire light bodies.
