  • Shan, Jamison, Kristian and Nick from the Werkz shop take four of the most popular handheld defensive lights head to head in the most rigorous durability tests they can think of, to see which one holds up. The Cloud Defensive MCH, Modlite 18650 OKW, Surefire Fury Tactical, and the Streamlight Protac HL-X are all well respected, find out which one fares the best in water spray, being frozen in a block of ice, drop tests, "drive over" tests, and the dreaded immersion test!
If you missed our handheld lab comparison, please check it out!

I so surprised the SF died like that. I've had my SF scout DF take hits on more barricades than I can count, even a spill out the side of a moving car. I hope you guys get some word back from them because I really want to know what went wrong with it. Either way, amazing video as always guys!
I do have a question though. Did you guys by chance remove the tail-cap and check the back spring? The main issue that I have run into with SF lights is that the contact spring can, upon taking its first spill, get knocked around and move backwards a bit. This makes it so tail-cap cannot activate the light. This is also why the momentary pads sometimes produce less output vs their tail-cap counterparts. The solution that works best, as I've found at least, is to take a small pair of pliers and slightly tug the spring to make it a smidge longer.

have a Modlite Handheld PLHv2, which is a very good tactical light. But I have one problem... that's because the bezel of the light head is thin. Modlite weighs about 170g, so if it falls from the head part, deformation of the bezel is inevitable. I think it's easy for the lens to be damaged by this.

Streamlights are excellent lights, if they'd put more precedence on high candela (or offer high candela versions of their "flagship" models) i can't really say id ever want anything else. Theyre tough as HELL, I've carried the one in my pocket right now for over 5 years as a warehouse worker and in my private time I i work on cars, tractors, and do all sorts of farm work and my tools do NOT get gentle treatment. My previous light was a streamlight as well and it didnt break, it accidentally came out of my pocket while loading a truck and it got shipped to South America. Their peripheral items (like tape switches for rifle lights could definitely be better) but otherwise their durability and reliability has been incredible.

I need anew EDC as my current Streamlight ProTac 1L-1AA is several years old and getting really beat up from rolling around on the ground and being dropped at least once a week. Also the clip just annoys the crap out of me since it just clips itself to the light body and pulls off with barely any force as well as it's a double sided clip for hats. I hate those things, completely worthless, nobody clips a heavy ass light to their hat because the hat just falls off from the weight. Anyways, I was looking seriously at the Cloud Defensive but the price was the only real drawback considering my lights get beat up, the current one is probably 10% bare aluminum at this point. But after seeing this video I'm just going to stick with Streamlight, rugged, dependable and way cheaper in price so no reason to go to anything else.

I’ve never seen anyone have problems with surefire as much as you guys. I used mine as a hammer a few months ago and in fact just this morning it fell out of my pocket at work 60 feet in the air onto concrete and it functions no problem. The other 2 handhelds, 5 pistol mounted, 6 rifle mounted, and 1 helmet mounted ones have had 0 issues as well. I’ve owned several steam lights, over half failed from very light general use. Modlite I’ve seen break from from a 3 foot drop. No experience with cloud defensive. I just can’t believe the anti-surefire cult.

@@WerkzHolsters I’m not sure how many would tune in for a live light test. Your videos do a good job with that. Maybe a AMA livestream would be something that people would show up for. Personally I watch RUclips when I have free time. There are very few instances where I would make specific time in my schedule just to watch a prerecorded video, ya know?
The problem with these premieres is that there is no value added for watching at a specific time versus watching when it’s convenient for you.

Used the streamlight micro for years until the clip started to get lose and it eventually fell out of my pocket.
People complaining about candelas or lumens need to understand its not about lumens when it comes to LEDs.
LEDs are completely inaccurate when it comes to Lumens
My micro streamlight with 250 lumens was stronger than most 1000 lumens

damn, surefire busted after 2 drops?! isn't it supposed to be a military/weapons light made in the usa? wtf. i also saw another vid of a surefire that stopped working after one upwards toss. if it's gonna be that cheap they really shouldn't be charging so much for their lights, they're crazy expensive.

    Cloud defensive sucks ass.
Long story short I had a mch hc edc and mch duty. Every light flickered. It's a huge problem in their fb page group. 3 posts daily about their light flickering. Cloud kept sending out tail caps. That was just a bandaid to a bigger design flaw in their lights. 2 months later they would flicker again.
Funny I was on a call clearing a house with 2 other officers. I had to stop and fart arohmd with the duty light to get it to stop flickering. Had to unscrew it take the battery out and fart around to get it to not flicker anymore.
That was the last straw for me. I got all new tail caps and sold the lights off. That's whete I draw the line. Been a flashlight enthusiast for years and none of my other lights do this. Something to do with the battery not making full contact in the light there for the flicker. I believe the batteries are too short. They need to figure their crap out
