      It's not meant to be funny, it's meant to highlight the biggest issue, which is victim blaming. Yes, they used a different, also serious issue, to highlight it, but that's not the message. No need to get aggressive.

    • @MishkyMo95

      Please read up on this. "Who blames victims for rape?" Well the majority of society does. We all remember Brock Turner right? If a girl reports a rape, as illustrated in this sketch, it's not taken seriously. She'll more likely face consequences of "ruining someone's life" and will be blamed for being selfish. When reporting a case, will be asked questions like "were you intoxicated", "what were you wearing?", "did you provoke them?". It's a problem, that's the point of this sketch.

    • @victorebell7383
      @victorebell7383 7 лет назад +42

      Brock Turner is a bad example. He didn't get away with it because he's male (or even white, really). He got away with it because he's affluent. Even if not convicted, a false rape accusation can and will ruin your life and destroy your reputation if the accuser's social status is higher than yours. Oh, but wait, that never happens, right.

      @@kai-hi4so Hello Kaiya.
      Firstly, why would you not read what I said before responding? I wrote 233 words - that's hardly an essay.
      Secondly, I did not imply as you suggest in anything I wrote: I basically just said there are good & reasonable grounds to expect people to make False Accusations in any area, for any gender when they are powerful; I insisted it as a responsibility that a crime is reported ASAP; and I upheld the Principle of Innocent until Proven Guilty - for everyone. Although that wasn't exactly clear, so - my apologies - I will edit it.
      Likewise, there are cases where it was proven (beyond reasonable doubt) that someone made a false rape accusation for whatever reason at the time - I still believe that something should also be only prosecuted or treated as a false accusation after the court case or at least when the evidence is available - and likewise, that Mob Justice is still a bad idea.

    For those that don't get it: The point of the sketch is that when someone makes a rape allegation, they're often harassed, bullied, and treated as a liar until they can prove with absolute certainty they WERE raped. As seen in the sketch, the process making the accusations, going to court, being seen as "slutty", being blamed for the rape, etc. are enough to make even the most vindictive, mean, and mentally unstable person think twice. Even if all women were so terrible as to think it's morally okay to falsely accuse a person of rape, only those as absolutely insane or naive as the main character would consider it.
    There is often a huge emotional, psychological, social, and economic impact on those making the allegations, not just the person accused. The percentage of false rape accusations is exceedingly low, yet rape victims are constantly treated with an unfair level of skepticism. Should we assume that a rape allegation is true without any evidence? No. But neither should we assume an allegation is false when, statistically speaking, it usually IS true.

    • @IRHasDiabetes911
      @IRHasDiabetes911 7 лет назад +64

      So say a girl accuses a man of rape and he claims they never had any sexual interaction at all. Neither can provide proof.
      What then? Do we just throw the guy in prison just because "statistically speaking it usually IS true"?
      It used to be innocent until proven guilty but now it's you have to prove your innocent or the entire rest of your life is over.
      It would be less cruel to grab a shotgun and blow a guys head off than to falsely accuse him of rape. Both result in his life being over only the shotgun makes the suffering end right away whereas the other he has to live in agony for decades.

    • @rachelsun3021

      IRHasDiabetes911 Did I say that? Unfortunately rape can't always be proven, and no, of course we can't imprison someone for a crime without evidence. Sometimes there is no good answer. That does not, however, justify treating victims (or alleged victims) with the complete lack of empathy or respect that is often seen, which is what I was getting at.

    • @sayur54321
      @sayur54321 7 лет назад +4

      @rachelsun3021 7 лет назад +52

      Hello :D Yes, "they" (whoever "they" are) should stop. But the point is that "they" (people who falsely accuse of rape) are incredibly few and far between, and the majority are telling the truth. That being said, it can't always be proven, and we can't ever imprison on a "probably true." But acting with the assumption that someone is lying when they say they were raped is cruel.

    • @IRHasDiabetes911
      @IRHasDiabetes911 7 лет назад +20

      Yet that's exactly what we also do with the man we treat them with complete apathy. You don't think the guy is getting sent death threats or being fired from his job before they even come to a verdict? Why is that side NEVER(as in never ever) shown? We treat men like they're not even human and that them suffering isn't an issue.

      Something like six one-thousandths of a percent of rape accusations are false, taking into account that many rapes are unreported. From that 0.006%, most of those are false due to no rape occurring, but the victim was being abused (as in domestic violence), statutory rape of someone underage, or someone in those or similar situations withdrawing their accusation for various (usually not good) reasons. Then the rest are out and out, completely false.

There's a fair trial based on evidence and reason; not because you think people aren't lying. You never take someone on their word. That's just the epitome of stupidity.

      oh no no no, don't try to use that card. you literally said that since it doesn't happen as much it's not as big of a deal compared to rape. But it is, just in a different way: knowing how awful it is, accusing a good person of such an act is cruel and diabolic. It doesn't only do damage to the accused man, it also contributes to push the boundaries of disrespect even further, women exploiting the pain of others for their personal interest is another way to hurt the true victims again and again. Don't even get me started on the stigma imposed on those innocent man.you can't care about one and completely ignore the other. And to be honest the fact that you take it so lightly says a lot about what kind of equality you aspire to get, one where you only matter if there's enough of you.

      so the ruined lives of men falsely accused of a terrible terrible crime they didn't commit don't count as much because there are more women suffering for what they are accused of? how can you fail to see that we are in the same boat? this can only help the idea of women using rape to get all the attention even when they are actual victims. it's not a small problem at all! what would those consequences be? the fair treatment of anyone who is a victim? the support to someone who is being hurt? the final proof that feminism is not a bunch of self entitled chicks who use it as an excuse to get advantages on man but actually care for everyone's safety and rights? oh yes, i can see how that's truly catastrophic. that said both things should be fought obviously, not just false accusation, in case you got that idea.

      The issue is that there are crazy people out there who don't consider or care about the fallout from a false accusation. So this sketch does very little to shake my skepticism towards accusations of rape that lack evidence. Yes it is unfortunate, yes it can be very hard to prove, but if you can't prove it, you should focus on recovery. Weakening or removing the current standard of evidence necessary to take successful legal action allows people to abuse the system and is a very unwise course of action as it could lead to a very drastic increase in false accusations. Though false accusations make up a small percentage now, if the system opens itself to abuse, that can change a lot very quickly.

    For the people who think this is meant to shed light on women falsely accusing men of rape, you are sorely missing the point. And please don't use your anecdotal story about the one girl you know who falsely accused once as your proof. The rate of false accusations with rape is so statistically low, it's hardly worth discussing. But for some reason, this is all anyone ever wants to talk about. Seriously, research it yourself. This sketch is asking "Why would a woman falsely accuse rape for her own benefit when the outcomes are the exact opposite - the police not taking the accusation seriously to begin with, death threats, the litigation preventing her from having necessary time to apply to college, her reputation, etc.?" It's not about false accusations the way you think it is. But idk why I'm even engaging in this comment section. Rape apologists will tear this apart in a matter of seconds, but whatever

    • @andersonwatch9075
      @andersonwatch9075 7 лет назад +13

      K L Even if its statistically low its not impossible. Therefore the law tries to make sure this isn't the cause by using presumption of innocence until proven other wise so no the law won't just kill a man accused of rape because there is a chance he is innocent and as a result his innocence needs to be accounted for

I'd say it's probably worth consider that it is possible, and also to review the method behind those stats. I'm also not sure about commenting, will anything productive come of it, will it upset you, will I be put into one of two sides (that's never good), should youtube be left to drown in a sea of spam? +Animie Watcher but the law shouldn't assume innocence, they should be neutral.
      It is just like abuse cases with children, they often assume the adult is innocent & want the child, who does often not have the words, experience, or emotional maturity to explain the details of their abuse...So many kids get handed back to their abusers & have negative consequences from being brave & speaking out, just like a lot of adult rape victims.

      So if you use that logic then absolutely EVERY woman that claims rape must be 100% telling the truth???
      Because no woman would go through all that for no reason???
      However, women are NEVER EVER EVER EVER identified in rape cases, but the accused man ALWAYS IS!!
      No matter if he is innocent or guilty he has absolutely ZERO chance of remaining annonomus!
      So what does the woman actually RISK by making a false claim???
      If she was a good enough liar the guy WILL get locked up!!
      And if SHE was proved to be LYING she will STILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED!!! (and probably will NOT get locked up)
      Lets face it, to make a FALSE rape claim the woman isn't really RISKING MUCH!!

      Liber 8 not really. I agree that women making false claims is extremely horrible, but everyone living close to the girl as in other members of a society knows the she was raped, and here being raped is somehow the girls fault, her wearing short and tight clothes like jeans, her working out of the house, you name any bullshit reason and it will be considered as the cause of her getting raped. Also it tampers with the chance of her ever being married. On top of this if she's lying she has just fucked her entire reputation.

      that its ridiculous people would assume women are falsely accusing people of rape, because look at what happens when they do. Why would someone put themselves through that unecessarily. Its also a dig at how women are treated after reporting rape. TheUndeadPrincess Even if it is ridiculous it still happens. Which why the justice system tries to be fair to both parties by assuming the accused is innocent until proven guilty. This doesn't only apply to rape it applies to every aspect of the law so idk why feminists act up when the law tries to find out if a woman is lying about getting raped it may be mean to those who are actually rapes but necessary to separate those from the liars and yes there are many liars

      @Loathomar 7 лет назад +37

      According to most peer reviewed studies, no. The 2006 Rumney review of studies found that false accusations can be as high as 40%, but this really needs to be broken into two areas, people who go to the police with a true study that claims it was rape and people who lie about the story of rape. A large percent of people who go to the police with claims of rape and a true story are told that what happen does not count as rape. Getting drunk and willingly having sex does not count as rape. Someone lying about there feelings to get sex does not make that sex rape, when you find the truth. Malicious claims of rape from a 1999 study was at 10.9% of claims.
      Much like rape, false accusations of rape are hard to prove, which is why you can get such low numbers. Australia's 2006 study found that 2.1% of rape accusations were charged or threatened with charges for filing a false police report, but that does not mean 2.1% of rape accusations where false. Just the same way that just because you don't get changed with a rape, doesn't mean you are not a rapist. A 2010 study of college rapes found that 6% where proven false in the investigation. That does not mean only 6% where false, just that 6% where demonstrably false. Just in the same way that just because 7% of rapes are proven in court does not mean 93% are false. The vast majority of rape accusations can not be prove either true or false because it is generally one person claiming one thing and the other person claiming another.

    I love the double message here. Both sides of 'rape scandals' are depicted so perfectly. There are women out there who DO falsely accuse people of rape, just for revenge or kicks or whatever else. But the women who do step up when they have actually been assaulted don't get the justice they deserve.
    *For those saying that women don't lie about it at all,
    I have had a friend lie to me in the past about being raped. She didn't like her ex and was also a compulsive liar. She had loads of other emotional issues, so I don't necessarily fault her for lying about it. She was very troubled, and my heart still hurts for her. But she told more than just myself this lie, and eventually told me the truth later on.
    While I do not think women /often/ lie, and I always believe them before I disbelieve them, sometimes, it does happen. Which is not fair to the many who struggle to come forward in the first place due to the repercussions they face when/if they do.

    I personally feel that the sketch has several messages that a lot of people are missing. The main point being that accusing someone of rape comes with severe consequences and stigma for the accuser, so why are so many women thought to be lying and just doing it for attention when they report being raped; it's risky to make a claim like that, even if its true. However, by highlighting the consequences of rape accusations, it also discourages people from falsely accusing by showing that it isn't a joke and can ruin a life and is not funny at all. And of course it brings up victim blaming as well.

    • @kevinj9059

      DreamCatcherX No, Title 9 is about sexual discrimination, harrassment, and assault. The only part that has to do with government financial assistance is that the government will pull funding if they believe the school is not properly preventing/punishing said crimes. This however, has lead to a kangaroo court system set up in colleges which does not hold to the burdens of proof necessary in civil and federal court cases. Accused are automatically suspended while an "investigation" read witch hunt, takes place. There have been many high profile cases where false rape allegations have destroyed people's lives while the accuser goes unpunished.

    i just want to say, for those people who try to defend rapists by saying "they ware wearing provocative clothing" or "their skirt was so short, they ware basically asking for it" you're defending a criminal and if they didn't consent to it, it was rape. These victims may be forever changed by the actions of this offender. Also it doesn't matter if you're a man, woman, non binary, gender fluid or child, anyone can be a victim and anyone can be an offender. Again to the people who defend rapists by pointing out what someone was wearing, i have one question, was my nightdress too short?

      Doesn't show the male side of the same story though. While yes, a false accusation will backfire on the accuser for a loong time afterwards, the ramifications on the accused are harsh as well. Until the ruling, he/she will be viewed as scum and a predator. Loss of friends and/or family, most likely will lose his/her job. Will struggle to find a job later, as they were involved in a rape case. Outcome is less important, their implied sexual offense matters a lot. With social media the way it is today, perception can weigh as much, if not more, than actual evidence.

    • @andrewaiken3617
      @andrewaiken3617 7 лет назад +54

    Just...FYI...only about 2-8 percent of sexual assault allegations are false. We really need to be focusing on the 98-92 percent that aren't instead of the other way around. Which is what I see happening in the comments. Even though this sketch is pretty clear with it's intention, it's definitely gone over people's heads.
    (P.S. Men are statistically more likely to be assaulted than falsely accused of assault. Since there's so many fans of statistics down here. www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/08/false-rape-accusations_n_6290380.html )

    this sketch shows how hard it is for someone accusing another of rape. we obviously don’t feel sorry for this girl because she falsely accuses someone else of rape, but this sketch conveys an image that if it’s hard for someone to succeed in convicting someone of rape, then it’s even harder for real victims, and it shows that false rape accusers make it that much harder for a rape victim to ever convict their rapist.
