    I know preferences differ highly. But speaking for myself, The Ordinary when it was first introduced and wasn't so well known truly saved me. I went from never being able to leave the house without makeup to feeling confident with my bare skin. Some of their products seem like it wasn't thought through well to me now but overall, I am really grateful for this brand

      Yeah I think they did an amazing job at introducing the world to these types of single ingredients but also there is often so much confusion around the products. What you can and can’t use together, what Ingredients actually do etc etc

    HERE IS SOME ADVICE!
    I have been employed by Deciem /The Ordinaryfor over 2.5 years at one of the counters in Melbourne Australia. When you are looking into the products, it is definitely easier if you know what you're trying to target in your skin (e.g. uneven tone, uneven texture, hydration, signs of aging). I would recommend focusing on the top 3 main skin concerns and try to find products that target those specific concerns. That way it makes things easier when choosing products to try. You shouldn't really need more than 5 products from The Ordinary, when it is over 5 products it gets hard to put them into an AM and PM routine. Especially when some categories/products aren't recommended to be used with each other.
    ❤️👏

      I found my experience with The Ordinary the same here in the UK as what you are saying- I spoke to them, addressed any skin concerns, they suggested a very basic routine and it is the first ever skincare routine I have stuck to! It's easy, my skin is the best it's ever been, and at an affordable price point.

    • @melissas4874
      @melissas4874 3 года назад +24

      It looks like a good brand if you have sensitivity issues. By using separate serums you can likely figure out what products to avoid. I don't think it's necessary a "starting point". It's just that some of us have more sensitive skin and can't use the multi-ingredient products.

    • @postalboxed
      @postalboxed 2 года назад +3

      @@melissas4874 This is what I find both fascinating and frustrating about figuring out skincare. My sensitive skin has a hard time with how strong some of their formulas are. I can't use the niacinamide, for example. But I also get that the short ingredient list is also helpful for sensitive skin, even just as a way to narrow down what's causing issues.

    -Glycolic acid 7% toning solution
    -caffeine solution 5% + EGCG for around the eyes only

    i’m glad you made this video because we all know a lot of people who started to dive in with skincare started with the ordinary and may have even started the popularity of skinfluencers. i remember when i started last year that it is the company that everybody suggests and praises and then skincare youtube became more popular and clickbait the name Ordinary but almost trashes them and then gets affiliate links with other companies of maybe even a collab. like naming a video why i’m moving on from the ordinary or why i no longer is the ordinary coz we know that it will get views. i still use some of their products and have moved on as well with other companies as i get more comfortable and have gained a bit of knowledge with skin care and would still recommend them to friends who are just diving into skin care.
    another thing is that sometimes it’s so hard to use other products with names that’s just so confusing when they all are let’s say niacinamide that’s why single ingredient products like the ordinary is much easier.

    I feel everyone only talks about face skin! I've been washing my hands a million times a day cz of the pandemic these days, and I dont know how to care for the skin of my hands after every wash! I initially tried using a hand cream after every wash but with so much of hand washing it's difficult to spend so much product!!!

    • @karatalksaboutstuff7333

      True! If you're buying your own soaps, try using "gentle" or "hydrating" formulas (I've actually been using baby body washes with the National Eczema Association seal on them!). If not...I think you might just want to look for store-brand versions of the classic CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. In the US, I know for sure Target has a knock-off, and I'm pretty sure most drugstores do, too. I hope that's at least a little helpful, but somebody else might have better advice.

      I totally feel you! I get eczema on my hands and it’s hard to find a good one to stay on. One that I really like that’s super hydrating is the Aveeno eczema cream. A little goes a looonnng way. Even if you don’t have eczema it’s a really good cream. A trick that I use is I slather on cream on my hands at night and I put on rubber gloves to seal in the moisture and sleep with them on. You’ll wake up the next day with super soft hands!

    • @virgofairy88

      I have eczema on my hands and the hand washing has made it worse. Definitely slather a good moisturizer on your hands and wear gloves at night. Another alternative is wearing a pair of damp socks with a pair of dry socks on top (like tube socks) my immunologist recommended this method and did help but then my eczema came back after I stopped for two weeks. (I’ve had it for 16 years so at this point I’m used to it). Definitely also go for anything unscented and look for soaps that are for sensitive skin (stay away from lush). African black soap is a good formula to try. Good luck!

    Listening to this while I'm doing my the ordinary skin care routine:
    •I genuinely do not like the cleanser. I have a normal to oily skin and I need to feel like I have cleaned my face and this does not leave me with that feeling. Also the "foaming" is so weird and you have to put so much in order to feel like its doing its job.
    •I agree on the Salicylic Mask, I do get that little tingling feeling on my cheeks and my skin is sensitive as well. So i normally dont stay with it for the full 10 minutes.
    •I love the combination of Matrixyl+Argireline, my face really enjoys it.
    •Niacinamide I think was too much for my skin or the percentage was too high, because whenever I use it my face gets irritated.
    P.S - I dont use them combined. I have some nights where I use the Vichy Mineral 89 because my skin is not hydrated. I use the niacinamide only once a week, trying to integrate it into my skincare routine really slowly and for the rest of the nights I use Matrixyl+Argireline.

    I think the key to the ordinary is knowing like actually knowing your skin issues and what ingredients will work for it I think that's where a lot of people really screw up with this product. They will take to a RUclips video and buy whatever that youtuber is promoting which in reality may not be what they need and may have adverse effects. This is definitely a product one needs to do research with and their website is pretty helpful about that.

    I'm really confident abt buying from The Ordinary, but the only thing im worried about is not really understanding their products, or using a toner which has the same main ingredient as a cleanser (for example) then just overwhelm my skin with the same ingredient which might be quite harmful for my skin... My skin has improved so much since I discovered The Ordinary. Alpha Arbutin isn’t even available in Australia so I have to import it from the UK. Same with the AHA BHA peel. And I think the vitamin c formula has changed as it doesn’t feel gritty anymore. I also like the granactive retinol.

  • @blue_anemone

    I never thought you disliked the Ordinary, but I feel like it's a natural progression in your skincare journey, once you find what actives works for your skin you would rather use 3 products instead 6. At one point, I think I was using 10 products and that is why I started looking outside on one active products as well. Also the texture of their products have alot to be desired sometimes. I have been trying some Facetheory face and Body Moisturizers and they are mind-blowing. On my face I am using the rejuvenating moisturizer and on my eyes and neck the Regena-C Moisturiser. The Ordinary I am still using their 8% Ascorbic Acid and Arbutin 2%. Everything else was replaced by other products.
