Bought one of these back in February, I'm 51 and it's my first bike. Can't recommend it enough! The looks, the performance (15hp/140mpg), it'll potter around at 30mph and I've had it up to 70mph, plenty about it to keep up with traffic. Yes, it is the pricier end of the 125 market, but if you want a well put together bike with the maximum power allowed for the sector, that looks fantastic, and you plan on hanging onto it for a while, then this is the one 🙂
I own this bike in yellow and have had it for 9 months. I intended to move it on pretty quickly for a bigger bike but i have fallen in love with it. I have decided to keep her. The mpgs are unbelievable, i hardly ever fill it up. Added a bar riser and now the ergonomics are fabulous. Im 5'11" (180cm for our European friends) but am longer in the torso. This is an expensive 125 (i paid just over 4k new) but you get what you pay for. For a 125 it does half shift. If your looking for the best 125 on the market and like the modern classic look, this is the one.

Started riding at 31 and got this bike because of your review. I have to say it’s been a pleasure to ride and it met and exceeded all of my expectations. The mpg are excellent and it is a really fun and nimble bike to gain experience on. I am 6ft 2 and 90kg and it is comfortable on long journeys as well as the shorter commutes. I got it up to 73 on the A3 and it sat very comfortably there for a long time. Thanks for your video and enthusiasm!

I picked up my first 125 motorbike in August 2022 and my choice was between the Honda, Yamaha and KTM 125cc's and I wanted the retro look. It was at this time when I noticed that Yamaha had brought out the Legacy version. What a fantastic looking bike with spoked gold wheels, I had to have one. The XSR125 Legacy cost me £5,500, so £500 more than the standard version and it has a few enhancements over the standard as well (better tyres for one). I can highly recommend this as a first bike. There are also many accessories available but these are not cheap (never are until 3 party manufacturers get on board). Not mentioned in the video, yet very important, is that this bike has VVR (Variable Valve Actuation) for better fuel economy and acceleration in both low-speed and high-speed, ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), 6 gears (1 down, 5 up). Go ahead and check out some reviews on the Legacy, well worth a bit extra.
I love your unbounded enthusiasm! I’m not in the market for a 125, but should I meet such a punter I’d point them in the direction of your vid. This bike is the best of the kind. I'm under 40, but I feel like I'm 100. So I wise enough to buy this bike. It's weights nothing. It's look good. It's worthy!
That was a great review of the XSR 125! It does look quite modern retro. And it is evidently overkill for modern roads; all you need is a 100cc 😂😂. At that price it fares poorly against several Royal Anvils, especially the Hunter. The front brake reservoir looks better than the new Norton's though! Wonderful stuff. It would be worth buying the 125 at my age, just to feel like a teenager.
Yes, it does make the REs look very inexpensive but if you haven’t passed your test over here you can only have a 125. I feel for certain if RE built a 125 this is what it would be like. It almost reminds me of what a mini Hunter would be like. 😊
We bought one last June as a learner for my lad after flogging the Keeway super light with 150 miles on it because it would not go over 48 mph for a 125 what a joke, he has passed his test now and got a bigger bike, my wife is still learning and will pass soon, but this will not be leaving us, too good a bike, very revvy engine, not slow, stock exhaust has a real nice little growl to it, runs on fresh air easy 120mpg plus, does over the legal speed limit with ease. I can't praise it enough, was going to sell but would regret it, we have a Monkey Bike too its fun gets the looks but the XSR is about the size of full size bike, i was so pleased i then went on to get the new XSR900 for myself for nice days out and about locally-ish as the seats like a scaffold board for comfort, the XSR125 seat is a lot more comfortable and i have had no discomfort in 1-2 hour rides. Once you get to around 7000 rpm it opens up more. Anyone that gets one of these will have some real fun. Its the style for me classic looks. If you are thinking about one , Don't think anymore MCN 2021 125 of the year too, get one.
Was considering getting an Mt 125 as I have the yzf r125 but had a heart attack and want something a bit more upright. Then I came across the xsr legacy and love the look. My only concern is I'm 19stone and not sure if it will keep up speed going uphill with me on it like my yzf does. What's your experience with its power on hills. Thanks
I'm fortunate to own a Yamaha XSR155 and a RE reborn Classic 350 in Bronze and chrome and they are both brilliant bikes, and a struggle to decide which 1 to take out 🤪. Both bikes invoke 2 completely different style of riding here in Indonesia, the Classic I love cruising around the islands and the Yam creates a more aggressive riding style 🤪. The only downside is the suspension which is way too hard and not adjustable! As for the Classic the preload suspension adjustment is frustrating difficult to get at, as well as no gear selector indicator and only 5 gears !
Marvellous, I don’t think any bike is completely perfect but the two you are lucky enough to own are about as close as you could get in there respective class. Bloody marvellous. Thank you 😊

Great review and great bike! looking into getting a XSR 125 for commuting after recently renewing my CBT license. I've got a question regarding the gear selector, saying how it's in a different position, is it something that you will need to get used to? or not massively different to a usual gear selector. I'm 5ft 9 and have looked and sat on an XSR, it seems to be perfect, but I didn't pay much attention to the position of the selector which I probably should. I think the 700 retains the charm of the 125 but the bigger one (900 or is it a 1000 now) seems to lose something in appearance. Marvellous bike though 😊
I bought it this year, generally a good 125 but the suspension is something I can't get used to after switching from a Suzuki EN125, it's incredibly stiff for this type of motorcycle, riding on bumpy roads is very uncomfortable.

Just going through some of the older TAYM Vids ... very entertaining👍 Would have been interesting to make a comparison in terms of speed/ acceleration to the RE 350's as the power/weight ratio can't be that much different ?

I'm seriously thinking of putting the bonnie in and using half the money to get this 125 instead which I can use easily around these snotty little lanes. Am I mad?
This was still the motorcycle I would have bought a year ago. Well, until I walked into the Yamaha dealer and they had no clue as to what I was talking about. What YSR125? They didn’t sell these here in the U.S. 😅

Sounds more Beefy than the new Norton Commando, not that much lower in power either and certainly a lot lighter. but its great, handling and looks and a deep low base sound, sounds totally different in the real
Interesting, just watched Rob Little on his xsr, battery trouble, it’s about 3 months old🤔 thanks Steven 😁
Just going through some of the older TAYM Vids ... very entertaining👍
Would have been interesting to make a comparison in terms of speed/ acceleration to the RE 350's as the power/weight
ratio can't be that much different ?
Interesting 🤔 according to various sources on google, the XSR just pips the classic 350 on 0-60 and top speed of 75 😁
@@TAYM Ah right ..I haven't had a chance to test a 350 RE yet but do know how a 125 goes so that tells me what to expect ...cheers. I'm tempted to get a Hunter as a run-around
@@WyreForestBiker I would think the Hunter would be a little quicker as it weighs less. Thanks DJ 😊
£4,550.00 New on the road 😃. Great video good man cheers.
A splendiferous little motorcycle for sure 😊
@Andy - wow, thats a good price. I was quoted £4,999 new thats why I went for the new Legacy which was only £500 extra.
How much 😳 I was going to say that I’ve never had much to do with 125s being that I could just jump onto a 250cc at 16 and happy days but then I remembered that I had a Suzuki GP 125 commuter for a while and my conductor had a TS 125 MZ the Yamaha looks great but over £5,000 for a 16 year old 😳 . Great video TAYM 👍
The price is an issue I agree but I did get it wrong, they are only 4 or there about😊😂 Still a lot if you are 17.
I didn't realise the velocipede came in a 250cc version Jamesy 😆🙃😉
@@icedidi Yes it was V6 😃👍
16yr olds can't ride a 125 in the uk. Have to be 17 to ride a 125
@@JDMz such a shame how the laws change overtime 😊
Have you had a look at any of the MUTT 125cc & 250cc models?
I haven’t, least for not any period of time but I do like the look of a lot of the 125s and 250s from the less mainstream and they look such good fun 😁 thanks acmdv 😁
@@TAYM I was thinking one of them might be a nice first bike for a late biking bloomer like me.
@@acmdv yes, I love the AJSs but I think most of the none mainstream offerings are down on power in comparison. Still great fun though 😁
I have a 1250 gs which is my workhorse and a beautiful triumph speedmaster 1200 which I only seem to use on sunny weekends which in Wales is every 4 years like the world cup. I'm seriously thinking of putting the bonnie in and using half the money to get this 125 instead which I can use easily around these snotty little lanes. Am I mad?
Not at all mad 😁 I very often think along those lines but then I get a really good ride and think no🤔 it is very tempting though 😁 thanks Paul 😁
As this is in same price range as a RE Meteor/Classic 350 which bike would you get?
If I hadn’t passed my test I would obviously go for the Yamaha, but of course the 350 in any other situation 😊
This was still the motorcycle I would have bought a year ago. Well, until I walked into the Yamaha dealer and they had no clue as to what I was talking about. What YSR125? They didn’t sell these here in the U.S. 😅
How strange 🤔 such a shame 😁 thanks YTR😁

They are nice. I sat on one. Not ridden but I bet its fun revving it. Loving my monkey . In contrast to the yam it is a very plush ride. 👍
😊 I still need to try one 😊
Your feet aren't kinda back?Is this uncomfortable?I think it makes an aggressive position or no?I think yellow colour is the best.
Thanks L 😁 yes love the Kenny Roberts colours 😁 I guess the foot position is relevant to what else you ride and how tall you are🤔
@@TAYM i don't ride yet but i like to get this for first bike.I am 1.78.
@@lambrosla983 should do you well 😁
Nice bike, but they do a legacy version which looks very retro and is again a great looking 125, don’t need it but still tempted.
Is that the yellow and black one? Marvellous 😊
@@TAYM it only comes in black but has lush spoked wheels and just the right amount of extra “old school” charm.
@@stephennewell6628 sounds marvellous 😊
@stephen Newell - get one its great, I did and I love it.
Which license do you need to be able to ride this beautiful bike
In the UK, Be 17 with a CBT i believe but always best to check 😊
how tall are you and did you eat good for me who is 185 cm?
I am 6ft 2 inches tall which is about 188cm and it was fine for me 😊
im in thoughts of owning one soon

Hi AYM, liked your video very much. I'd like to know if you found it easy to read the dash in bright sunlight.
Thank you in advance ....
Thanks M 😁 to be honest, I can’t recall any bright light whilst I had it😂😂 but on the plus side, I don’t recall having any problems reading it at the time 🤔
Nice little commuter bike! Not available in the US of course, not yet anyway.
Probably a bit small for the US market but still a Splendiferous little bike 😊

HI
How much did it cost ya for this babygirl ?
I think it sold for about £4.5k 😊
Great review 🙂 if you search for Yamaha xsr 125 configurator, you can choose your accessories from the list and it adds to the bike picture, but you'll end up at £6000+ like I did 😅,if you have already received this message I'm sorry, for some reason it's been getting deleted after a minute!
Marvellous, 6k, that’s a fair hike from the base of 4.5k 😂😂😂 what on earth did you add? Might have a go myself, sounds like fun😂😂😂

Anything to draw youngsters into the motorcycling throng has to be a good thing. Not sure about that mahosive frame though 😳🙄😂
I know what you mean but with out it it would be a much smaller bike 😊
@@TAYM ,😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
It's the same delta box used on the r125 and the mt125 tbh I prefer it to the ridiculous looking orange scaffolding on the KTM.

Sounds more Beefy than the new Norton Commando, not that much lower in power either and certainly a lot lighter. Now there's a bike you might actually want to lick ( taste) but as for the other senses I feel they'd be a bit dumbed down. I can just hear your review now " Looks scrumbtiously Splendiferous" " Taste? Well you know I might just taste it" " Feel? Well it feels marvelously Splendiferous, tasty paint work and delectable details. Other than that it just feels unsplendiferously heavy" " Sound? I think I need a hearing test". " Sixth sense? Leave it in the garage, take it to the odd bike meet as long as the road's straight. Other than looks its way below marvelous, might even have to invent a new word, Mehvelous" 😂
😂😂😂 surely not below marvellous! Anything with an engine and two wheels can scrape a dry marvellous, can’t it? 😂😂😂
Yes, if you watch the Bennetts Bikesocial review the Norton guy even offers a challenge re tasting the bike.😀
@@thimbur3543 It probably tastes better than it rides 😂 One reviewer described it as "a magnificent ride" which handled "beautifully" only to follow on talking about its dreadful turning circle and reluctance to corner.
