Trippier has been in poor form all season including this tournament, he’s 33 and isn’t fully fit. Fully agree with Carragher here.

many youtuber analysis tactics defines Trent role in liverpool just to push no 8 and 6 higher and bring more number in midfield battle, he can breakthrough the defensive block without being marked, because the opponents has to handle the advance no 6 and no 8

Yep, and it makes every game hard work cos he will never go out out and try and put the game to bed by scoring 3 or 4. As soon as we get 1 he doesn't even try and nick another goal, he just goes into 100% defend and invite pressure, even if we were on top, it's stupid!

You don't need to be the best defender when you play three at the back and you use Walkers pace to cover the gap in behind. Crazy not to use Trent in this formation, when he offers so much going forward. You think Klopp or Guardiola would leave Trent on the bench?

All the people in the comments saying he’s not good enough defending are just lazy football takes. You don’t play 3 champions league finals, win the premier league, numerous domestic cups being bad at defending. Seeing Kyle walker and trippier get done constantly last game against an opposition with little attacking threat doesn’t make everyone say they can’t defend, but if Trent did the same thing it’s amplified and blown out of proportion.

Have you watched Trent play? As a Liverpool fan i love him but he has no clue defensively, and we have won with him by holding a midfielder back to cover for him. We gave up less goals when he got injured and Bradley took over. It does make sense to play him when playing with 5 at the back with three center backs. He doesn't fit Southgate's style of fear of losing. Liverpool play attractive soccer aimed at winning.

Totally agree. He has a point. Trent has the ability to whip crosses and find avenues and team mates and switch play he does this best! he can link up with Mainoo and Jude and progess the ball further forward and get the crosses in!

No knock on Trippier, who has been a great servant for his country, but this is like choosing a hamburger over a fillet steak. Even in the MF role, TA was the most creative (in a team full of static players). He is one of those players that can do something really special, and Trippier really isn't.
Makes no sense, infact i would call it a FARCE. In that formation TAA is the best RWB in the country. Tripps should not even be in the squad.

He didn’t look out of place in midfield either. The players ahead of him were the problem. They aren’t fast runners but are rather good when they’re on the ball. You don’t expect Trent to release long passes 😢to players who can’t run but are rather standing and waiting for the ball.
Put Ollie and Tony upfront with Trent in that midfield and you’ll see that difference.
TAA was made the scape goat. Gallagher was even worse when he came into midfield and TAA still had the most impact in chance creation after the first two games than anyone
Yes, the guy is a special player. And I think at club level he will be better going abroad, he'll flourish and grow even more on the continent. And then he will be more appreciated too at England too.
A back 5 with Arnold as the RWB is literally the perfect system and position for Arnold. Accentuates his crossing ability which is probably best in the world after KDB and limits his lack of defensive prowess with the RCB covering him.

Were you guys alive before Southgate took charge? England barely got into the knockout stages let alone go deep into competitions. Since Southgate we have been in the QF minimum.
You can hate his tactics (me included) but you can't argue with the big results.

@mega7070 That is true, so Southgate deserves credit for that 100%. Let's be honest though, the bar was set incredibly low. A country of England's size and resources should have achieved more than they have. When you compare them to similar sized footballing nations in Europe ie France, Germany, Italy, Spain. England has massively underperformed over the years.
Growing up was disappointing for me watching England. Now it's been amazing to watch. Yes.... This tournament hasn't been brilliant from all the top sides let's be honest. Southgates last tournament and then we look forward to the next journey! Comon England!!
I think it was Trippier that one game for Newcastle gave two goals away that were Karius like. It was unbelievable. But he seems to be the first man penned in by Southgate.
The difference with the Foden still being in the centre is that the width should exist from the wingbacks and they should all have more space. Not sure about Saka at left back and agree with the take on Trippier over TAA. Not sure it makes sense, I feel Gareth doesn't want to upset Trippier and also signals prioritising defense over attack.

It's very difficult to escape from social media, and how the negative remarks about England's performances have affected the team remains to be seen. It can either inhibit the players or galvanize them. They did look nervous in the first half v Slovakia.

Put Watkins on instead of Kane and put Trent on rb. Watkins will do the run and Trent can find him. It will stretch teams and move Eng up the pitch quickly.

Grow up if TAA were the best player he would start. TAA was a disaster in midfield and he's a liability defensively. Bellingham, Walker, Rice, Saka, Foden and Mainoo are all better players.

John Stones playing square balls to Guéhi was an issue too. England seem obsessed with keeping the ball so the opposition can't hurt them, rather than trying to score. They had the 3rd most possession but half the chances of other teams.
John Stones doesn't feel comfortable passing into midfield if the midfielders have a man on them. Then it becomes slow and lethargic and they lose the England fans and atmosphere.
These people? They've got no ounce of Managerial skills yet they sit behind screen and act as if they can win champions League with Ipswich town.. They'll say this today and change their goalpost another day.. Having decent players doesn't mean you've got a great team

play with this team and I think we would smash anyone if we set up like this. Don’t need 5 defenders should be an attacking formation with plenty of width. Bellingham drops to midfield and MainOo stays ahead of rice. We don’t need all 3. Kane is dead weight and Foden has been inconsistent too. It’s very simple but the manager is a fool.

Because in these games one mistake can mean your out of the competition, don’t forget the champions league 2x and prem titles we lost at Liverpool because of his mistakes. I love Trent he’s absolutely unreal but I don’t think this is the tournament for him to be playing in defence with how hard we’re finding it to score goals. He would become a weak point that would be targeted as he is for Liverpool.

A complete myth has developed with TAA that he played badly in midfield. Every midfielder has played badly, Bellingham may have scored but his midfield play has been far worse than Trent. In many ways Trent was our best midfielder in those first games.

No, I'm afraid you need to pay greater attention. Trent does know how to play in midfield, he has done it for extended periods this season. I don't believe he can play alongside Rice and Bellingham but to say he's unable to is plainly incorrect. Personally I would play Mainoo, Rice and Foden with Trent as a RB - that does not in any way result from Trent but rather the balance of the team and available players. And you say Rice has been fine in midfield? Other than a better overall team performance against Switzerland he has been no better than Trent.
@@josephdowse922 You don't understand the difference between a RB inverting into centre mid and a natural centre mid. The positions are VERY different as are the attributes required.
I was wondering what I was enjoying about this tournament, even though watching England is torture. Just realised it's not having to listen to Carragher's voice for a few weeks.
I don't think Trent starting on the bench is necessarily a bad thing... As long as Southgate brings him in at a decent time, with some impactful subs to make use of his skills. But that's wishful thinking haha
Thing is Saka was man of the match, scored the equaliser, playing in the position where Trent would play - so where would he go?
Only option I can imagine would be switching Saka to the left, but for me Saka is one of the only players performing rn so why change him?!

Southgate has reached his plateau. When he first started he was great with the players. Much more comfortable and confident than before he was at the helm but now it’s clear this should be his final tournament. But I cannot blame him for everything.
