After seeing the leaked Sandy movie I'd say it won't be any good, maybe slightly better but far from what the original was.
Search for SquarePants’ director is Derek Drymon, and what’s interesting about him is that he worked on the original TV series’ first three seasons, he was the one who made Seasons 1-3 themselves be critically acclaimed. Sadly, despite that, not a lot of people talk about him for some reason.

And apparently, he's also an executive producer for Adventure Time. I dunno, this gives me some hope, but I probably won't really watch the movie unless it actually is good.

After watching Valiskibum's video on the movie and announcement, the director has been revealed to be one of the creative directors during Spongebob's "golden era" meaning this movie could actually be better than the last few! By the sounds of it, comedy styles from that golden era are to be making a return so I have my hopes up.
The movie's plot is literally been announced for nearly a year. "SpongeBob goes to the deepest depths of the ocean where he will face off against the Flying Dutchman" which is the plot. Basically Spongebob along with his friends is battling the Dutchman somewhere deep. The director for this movie is Derek Drymon who was the creative director in the Pre-Movie Era, so I'm sure he will do well since he was really close with Stephen Hillenburg. Concept art was also released by him and it's logo was released just a few days ago. I do have hope.
Release date for this movie is December 19th 2025 (Used to be May 24th)
(Somewhat unpopular opinion: I loved Sponge Out of Water, one of my favorites)

Sponge out of water isn’t as bad as people claim. It was pretty good just had some weaker moments. The second SpongeBob movie felt similar.
In my opinion The first movie and Sponge out of Water are the best movies in the series.
Considering that Derek Drymon is the director who is well known for writing the first 3 seasons of the show, I say this at least is giving me some hope than SOTR. The idea of The Flying Dutchman being villain is actually a pretty cool idea. I just hope that they lean more on S1-3 humor than SOTR humor

But there are some interesting facts about SpongeBob 4.
It will be the most expensive Movie in this franchise
It will have writers from S1-4.
It will take place in the deep Ocean where everything is dark and it will have first time in the Movie Franchise the Flying Dutchman as a Villian. There is even a Concept art out there already.
So SpongeBob 4 could be great.
If this movie doesn't have a part when Squidward is like, "We gotta get SpongeBob back!" Then I ain't watching it
Netflix will also release a SpongeBob Sandy Cheeks movie this year.

No it a fourth film. The Sandy cheeks movie was probably the first spin-off movie as Nickelodeon's now making unnecessary SpongeBob spin offs like the Patrick Star show and Camp Coral.
Most likely everything in Sponge on the Run was already approved by Stephen before he died since the writing was done between 2017 and early 2018 well before his passing with voice acting and animation starting afterwards.
At least the old crew who worked on SpongeBob back then is returning🙃

Well for starters this movie was announced like a year ago and secondly they are bringing back some of the original writers from the early seasons with the director even being someone that helped create the show with Stephen Hillenberg. Yes this movie will be good.

Idk if this movies gonna be bad, it’s the crew from the very first SpongeBob movie coming back to work on this one, I also think that’s why this is a “stand alone” SpongeBob movie, it’s not set with the other movies continuity, it’s gonna be its own thing and might even be a minor sequel to the first one. I have hopes that this crew has something cooking up for us OG fans that we’re around when the first movie dropped.

I really liked The Spongebob Movie Sponge out of water. Obviously is not like the first movie, whick I loved and had it on DVD for a while, but it didn't need it to be. Just neede to be a usual Spongebo story with a cinematic focus and it worked. It also was good because Stephen Hillenburg returned as a producer and started supervising the show again until his passing. That ultimately regained interest for the character. Also the movie came out at a difficult moment for me and helped me at that time and I really thankful. Now, Sponge on the run it was Ok, not terrible, but I was actually waiting for a crazier adventure considering the animation style which was perfect. I am looking forward for the Sandy movie on Netflix later this year, but my idea for a new movie would be to revive the old conept for Sponge on the run with aliens and Nicolas Cage as the president.

i think you could have put the first Spongebob movie's plot into an episode. would it have been nearly as good and allowed as much development? No. in fact, i think if a surface level premise is NOT something you feel like you could expect to happen in the show, it's probably not a great movie premise for the series you're making one for. taking something that could be presented more mundanely and spicing and polishing it up from there helps keep a show's identity and overall feel in tact. i think the spongebob movie just made better use of the additional time it had much better, and it should be given props on that basis when you compare it to the Simpsons movie. they really made the most they could of that extra time.

There are 4, which were announced 2 years ago, they all come out this year and next year.
3 of them are spinoff's (one is the leaked sandy movie) which will be on streaming services, while Search for SquarePants is Theatrical.
I want the one with the alien cats, and Sandy dressed as Psylocke.
I really want this one to be good, the animation is amazing for these movies and deserves a good storyline

Honestly they should adapt the musical into a movie. It’s the only good feature length story we have gotten of SpongeBob since that first film.
I have an idea for SpongeBob’s fourth movie. SpongeBob has a bad day and supposedly gets kidnapped by a mysterious figure in the night. Where Squidward is the only one that sees it happening. Now Squidward, Patrick, Sandy, and Mr. Krabs all have to go on a quest to find the missing sponge.🧽

The only time an intellectual property has ever been wroth a remake or continuation is when it's in the public domain. At this point, everyone deserves to have a piece of the SpongeBob pie without paying royalties due to how much it has embedded itself into pop culture. It was definitely the best, but sponge out of water was also great, especially for the era it was from. Sponge on the run was very flawed, but the animation is spectacular. It just seemed to have an identity crisis. Hopefully this one will be a bit better
