- It's so jover. The single biggest corporation, in regards to commericial success - Coca Cola. The bastions of how to market successfully. Have decided to throw away their humanity, and any semblance of the christmas spirit.. with this. A full AI generated commercial. With no human actors, no human animators. And no soul behind the eyes. This is a move that deletes careers. Removes authenticity. And will very likely empower others to do the same. The art of the commercial is dead. Welcome to the new era. This is so so deeply disheartening to see. Especially from a company that has the fewest excuses to cut corners. The spirit of Christmas is dead. The entire thing is as fake and soulless as the corporation itself. Leaving millions to discover: No... Coca Cola Made a 100% AI GENERATED Advert...

The irony of a company with the motto "Real Magic" using AI to make their commercial. You can't make this stuff up.

i used to love seeing the "holidays are coming" ads when i was a little kid. its sad to see that they're going down this path. it doesn't feel as magical as the original ones do.
Yeah... The Ukrainian one still comes to my mind from time to time (feels more... Magical of makes sense)
Problem with this is that back in the early 1900s, Coca-cola used to hire ACTUAL artists to paint their logos by hand onto signs. In the olden sense, advertising USED to actually be considered an art form. It wasn't until like the 1970s that things started becoming corporately-inclined and the artistic aspect started showing up less-and-less.
Propaganda is made for profit, art is made for self expression (as an end on itself, tipically)
a lot has changed since the 1900s.
Ah changed since the 1900s.
Yeah
Because they started to make real money
it still is an artform, and an advertisement done right is something to be considered art.
Here we have coca-cola, a brand which doesn't need an introduction anywhere in the world, and definetely doesn't need to rely on ads, trying to cut costs with some "effective management"
@@atanaZion Are video games not art? Are movies not art? Music? All of these things are made for profit. You don't know what propaganda is. Your mindset is why artists are treated terribly in every industry.

i hate the fact that there’s literally nothing we can do at this point, AI is taking the soul out of art and all companies are doing is saying “lol get over it losers!!!!!!!” in the most corporate bland, (ironically) AI generated way possible.
Indeed.
This is just a reminder that companies are not your friends. They pay for your labor until there is a cheaper alternative, at which time they leave you to starve on the sidewalk. Artists will soon be out of jobs and everyone will be worse off, except the bourgeoisie. Socialism or barbary.
You're the consumer, they rely on you to make a profit. There is absolutely something you can do
There are companies embracing this stuff to save money, and they almost always have competitors who aren't, and even some making open statements that they're against it. Voting with your wallet doesn't make a big impact, but you can at least feel good that you're supporting real people over corporate profits - and hey, if enough of us do it, then these corporations might learn that they're losing more than they save.

I've been saying it a bunch but I’ll say it again. “I’m not scared of AI being so good that it becomes a viable replacement for creative jobs, I’m scared of companies thinking AI is good enough to replace creative jobs.”

It doesn't have to be good enough, they'll just do it anyway.
And then the cultural bar is forever lowered.
100% I support ai for recreational use, but companies using AI is just wrong
This is exactly thing what I'm scared of too. Atleast we have people that carefully about creativity now. What about little kids who grow up from watching ai generated content?
Thing is, since AI generated content cannot legally be copyrighted, people are free to use this commercial without paying coca cola a single cent in royalties. And it will not be long until people figure that out and start stealing these commercials with their own stuff printed on it and voice overs that say all kinds of stuff that Coca Cola that damages Coca Cola's brand.
They've just given many people the opportunity to take this and turn it into a PR disaster.
Technically, the logo at the end was human made, so there's a loophole, but the first twenty-seven-ish seconds are essentially public domain.
That's only valid in some countries, but, to be honest, I don't think they care. People already do that sort of thing with their regular copyrighted content and they've never sued anyone (Why would they? They usually benefit from that type of content).
Anyway, they still own the copyright of their logos and brand though. That's still true even if you use AI to generate them.
Dear God please 🙏
I truly wish AI never got to this point.

Behind the Bastards mentioned that Thomas Kincade’s art is present in all generative AI. I can see it.
It's still like wax statues, even when the subject turns or 'moves'. The longer any clip goes, the more of a chance it has to visually melt. Because AI don't understand 3D objects! Honestly, and it's sad to say, is the best thing artists can do to adapt to this new world of AI is to use it as a tool by using your own personal AI with high definition pictures of your own art style art and charge people a certain price, less than commissioned work, but more than free, per generation offered to the people that go to your site, also put only images that include a QR code link to your own website up in other places, that way AI scrubbers get messed up if they use your online images cause of the QR code and every picture that humans see can go directly to your website to see your art, contact you for a commission or use your personal AI generator to create a high definition version of your style without the QR code and you get the money as it costs them to generate a picture or a set of various pictures, this helps keep your art off of other image generators, and still offers customers the advantage of instant art, but unlike other generators, the money goes to you, it's really the only way to make sure that you and other artists stay in control of what they make. It's time to revolutionize the AI art industry and remake it for the artists, as it should be

I just saw this commercial yesterday, and i already know this wasn't made by a team of animators. It's so sad that companies today are getting more and more lazy and heavily reliant on ai, like that angry birds poster.
They not getting lazier, it’s all about money, we are in the beginning of late stages capitalism, corporations want every year to be a record year in income, but as of lately it’s getting harder and harder to get record years and it will get harder, so corporations it’s looking to cut expenses to get the next record year, by using AI they get the the money boost to say they earn more money this year, but this is only a short term fix and they will cut something else that the corporate deans unnecessary

The thing that makes it bad isn't that it's AI generated...
The thing that makes it bad is that it's AI generated with no heart, soul, or extreme time & dedication. The fact of the matter is this was probably generated in under several hours.
not to defend them but this def would have not been *that* easy to make
@@derpyslurp8779 Not really. Most video engines like this is typing an bunch of buzz words into an engine, and then having the engine generate results on those buzz words. From there they basically edit it to have coca-cola slapped on it. Once someone has made the engine? They become obsolete as all the company now needs IS the engine.
Yes it actually was probably that easy. It most likely took like 5 seconds to type in a collection of key words, let the ai generate something and call it a day. That's as low effort as one can get. @@derpyslurp8779
As not a non “artsy fartsy” guy, who is neutral on generative AI as a concept, all ai generated photos and especially videos look so corny. Why would they think it’s presentable in the slightest? AI is not ready to take artists jobs and I’m tired of people, especially companies, pretending that they are. And I’m not talking from the standpoint of “oh, you’ll never replace the human soul”, like I said I’m not artsy like that. AI just obviously can’t capture reality in a satisfactory way.
For now.
for me its mostly not "ahh its soulless" (though it partially is) its all "ahh someone could be making money from this but youre just doing it in an objectively worse way artists already have it bad in terms of money please just give them a break"
luckily in terms of art i prefer needlework and although knitting was automated ages ago, its pretty easy to get someone to buy physical objects by just slapping the term "hand made" on it but thats neither here nor there.
@@zigmantasbajoras no
It's kind of tied together. The reason that human produced art looks "good" compared to AI art isn't a matter of technical skill, often the AI has an incredible degree of "technical proficiency" especially with lighting. The issue is that the AI doesn't have any experience or understanding of the world. It doesn't know what anything it's producing *is* it just knows "this keyword means this collection of shapes and colours" etc
Humans producing art look at, and assess the art during the process of making something. If something looks weird or wrong, they make revisions as they go. Humans have an intuitive understanding of the world around them, developed through their entire existence, and that feeds into their understand of what looks pleasing, what looks natural, what looks creepy, what looks surreal - and they can put that intuition into the work itself to get a desired outcome.
I think it looks okay but is immediately visible. I fully believe I could spot it without knowing it's ai already:(

I totally disagree that only a few people care. The best example is the fact Products that have AI on them sell less well. Showing the public don't like this. The main people who do are the people who have invested 10s of billions into it and people who want to make more money.
Do people don't like AI in general or that the product with AI is just not finished?
@zigmantasbajoras You are technically correct. However, it's a case of people trying to pull it off so early that by the time comes, and ut actually works, no one wants it. It's like a Bethesda game, in that regard. Except Bethesda games would make more money.
@@destinymace We have good examples of good and bad AI products. Good examples are ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.

Finally a advert that matches my feeling that Christmas is empty and soulless these days.
Here in Argentina there was company that made an IA ad, I think it was for a cleaning product or something, it was so obvious and the end result was kind of unnerving since it featured IA humans, like advertisers don't want to pay actors
I rather watch a cheap local commercial from the 2000s made with primitive CGI instead of something like this
I disagree it isn't getting more realistic looking as the only realistic parts of the advert are the coke bottles and hand. But they look exactly (suspiciously so) like previous adverts. So all it is, is the AI did less than it normally does when it steals and muddles up videos and pictures.
1:23 “Real Magic” 💀
Quality real magic I see
"Real" Magic
The irony of this commercial is that it completely negates the rest of the holiday commericals the company has done over the years. Once I saw this AI slop, I actually asked myself, "what does Coca-Cola actually have to do with Christmas?" It took the magic and nostalgia off the rest of their body of work, and I am firmly reminded that I don't NEED to be buying a soda in the coldest season.
Advertising used to be an artistic form. But when there's no effort to include humans in that process, as the consumer, it begs the question as to whether or not I'd even want a product no human was hired to advertise.
I don't think many people realize the difference between emotional creativity, and brain stimulating slop. Just because they seem the same on the surface, doesn't mean it won't change over time.
It won't
Too many people support this crap. Coca cola is literally addicting and even if they “say” they are boycotting, they won’t stop buying
It'd be one thing if it actually looked good, but the people in the ad are hardly even moving.....why make a shitty AI ad when you could use animation or real people? Oh that's right, greed....

What's the point of paying for an education for encouraging to use AI??? Might as well abolish tests and allow cheating and plagiarism!
I'd leave that place inmediatly. My uni also used AI a couple of times for posters, most still made by human though.
im actually really happy to hear that you use an ¨ai¨ to cut out your pauses. i recently stared using such a tool as well but i felt bad about using it because it is ai...im so against generative ai because im an artist myself.
I think the “egregiousness” of AI comes not from AI itself but the intention of its users.
@@cavejohnson4306 That can be said for literally everything. It's not really a meaningful argument.
Not all AI is generative. Just so you're aware. And there have been actual good uses of AI. Alot of this hate comes from generative AI (which I totally understand I don't really like it either). But this whole AI thing used to cut out pauses doesn't sound like generative AI. So idk why you feel bad about it.
Pont is not all AI is generative AI. I don't like generative AI as an artist myself.

I have to say, there is one but crutial thing i dont understand: on one hand you gave very critical statment that this startegy of using artificially generated assets because it's, in face of crises that lay before us, the prime example of souless consumerism, the very end of holiday spirit itself (paraphrasing)... while still talking about coca-cola commerial. I got (and forgive if it was wrong, or if i got the wrong message) the impression that this part of our culture (or popular culture if you will) part of it inherent focus of consuming, made to the extrime by the advertisment industry is implanted (naturally or extenisvly, thats topic for diffrent occasion) in our minds and spirits, that even while critizasing very same phenomenon become unforseenable
It would be funny if Pepsi made the same ad as Coca Cola did but it is genuinely animated and has actual actors in it
I was thinking the same thing, like what Samsung did when Apple made that iPad commercial where they crushed a bunch of artist tools, then Samsung released a commercial where a musical artist came into the same room picked up a broken guitar and started playing it
As someone who grew up wanting to be an animator or showrunner, this shit hurts. Right after getting out of a major depression funk, too. But maybe spite will be a better motivator than money.
Indie or freelance seem like the only paths
Same
I mean honestly this AI slop will make actual quality work stand out even more. I'm not supportive of AI slop and would wish we didn't have it. But I do believe that this will encourage people to support smaller creators who actually care about the quality of their product.
And maybe this will encourage people to start their own indie studios because they are sick of slop. Art will always exist and lazy AI bros aren't going to take that away.
So keep going with your dream and don't give up.
Fun fact: Poland was the first to produce an ad using ai, that was promoting erection pills

Yes. It looks really messy with all the art styles and references, and "real" people mashed into like 1 second clips, then showing all that on repeat. There's no story, nothing coherent. I mean yeah, these are all classic christmas scenes, but in this format it just looks like a mess.
The stop motion ads side by side show that a low frame rate cartoonish ad looks infinitely better
As a certified Pepsi fan, I see this as an absolute win for our brand.

Worst part is that people will still buy Coke products regardless of the ad, and other companies will think that the ad worked.
True. Majority of people who probably buy Coca-cola don't watch ads anymore. Makes some sense from a business point: why spend more money, time, and resources on an ad that most people wouldn't care much about anyway? Granted, at that point I'd say don't even do an ad, but maybe they had to fill a quota for the marketing team.
It's sad. I know it is and always has been just consumerism, but gods dammit, the coca cola Christmas adverts always had such a warm Christmassy feel to them. It really does get you in the spirit.
