They literally just stole Venelope or whatever her name was and a lot of the plot from the original Wreck it Ralph, which was actually a decent technology movie.
brianna castro the movie tries to force the viewers to like gene and hate smiler when all smiler wanted was to protect their world and fix the damage gene caused. despite him being titled as the hero, he is the one responsible for all the troubles that happened (even causing the deaths of many characters) but the movie clearly wants you to believe otherwise :v

The one thing I never understood was how just dance was ON THE PHONE. Not just a companion app, because I do know that does exist, but actual just dance! How is that even possible?
My biggest problem with the movie is the logic of Textopolis itself. You’d think the writers of this would be smart enough to realize that EACH INDIVIDUAL PHONE having their own separate Textopolis, is actually a horrifying thought. Do they know how many people change, crash, destroy, and wipe their phones clean often? So just picture how many Emojis have been horrifically wiped out from existence, each time someone just up and reset or got a new phone. They could’ve made Textopolis a singular world connected to all phones (like Wreck-It-Ralph’s video game world), but instead we have mass genocide almost on a daily. Also, the most popular Emojis having to step into a big frame doesn’t make sense either. The big machine being for the most popular emojis is clever, but lacks logic too. Do they forget other emojis exist? What happens if the person decided to use one they never use, and doesn’t exist on the wall? Wouldn't it mean that emojis would just vanish randomly like a State Farm employee? Edit: I don’t have an issue with them using Emojis for a movie. If they could make an entire movie out of Legos, a product that doesn’t come with a plot or even a narrative, then I’m open minded to the Emoji idea too, but the problem with said Emoji movie is how generic and formulaic the story is at best, and boring, predictable torture at worst for those who have already seen it before. The only scene that got a slight chuckle out of me, was when Smiler approached one of the other emojis and said “I’m so ANGRY right now, ahahaha!” I feel dirty admitting it, but the way she emoted her frustration through sheer gritted, joyous chuckling got me. Edit 2: So I rewatched this, and forgot that he mentions that the director of this movie wanted to send a message about it being ok to be “different and unique,” being a gay man himself. Uhhh…ok yeah, that’s nice, but there’s a difference between subtlety and shoehorning that message in the most painful way. One of ParaNorman’s director is openly gay, and that movie managed to deliver the “different and unique” narrative properly; from the bullying, outcast, and outright disdain for what he is, instead of just condescending. Hell even Mitch turning out to be gay was a twist, but the subtle hints throughout the movie now make more sense. The Emoji Movie thinks its audience are idiots, and didn’t think they’d be able to think properly because apparently the message would’ve been too subtle, so they decided to drive the message of “it’s ok to be different” to a point of almost just writing it on the screen itself. ParaNorman is what happens when you’re a good and smart writer. The Emoji Mohie is what happens when you have condescending writers, who think kids and adults are too simpleminded for understand anything.

Jail Break going back to her femme look could be seen as her saying femme doesn’t mean weak, less intelligent, etc, cause a lot of women who go through the Tom boy phase(sometimes not a phase) do tend to look down at femme women so it’s like she’s embracing her femme side, like you can still be femme and not fit into gender roles but it’s the emoji movie so I doubt it’s that deep.
I agree with your assessment of that plot point, but also think that it was likely unintentional. Because I feel like a lot of times people "express their individuality" they take it too far and end up just trying to stand out from everyone else more than they're expressing what they actually feel. And that's kind of what I feel like Jail Break was doing with the way she was dressed. Because a lot of people, including a lot of women, see being strong, being yourself, and being feminine, as things that just don't go together, which is completely false in my opinion.

Actually, it was cancelled because of the North Korean hack on Sony. Even if it wasn't for the Emoji Movie, the Popeye animated film would have never come to fruition.
I feel so bad for the Animators who had to animate this. It’s just sad they wasted their talent on this garbage movie and Animation is definitely not easy to do. I’m in school to be a animator, and literally for maybe 10 seconds of animation would take WEEKS so finish.

Small opinion on Jail Break. As someone who considers them self pretty "girly," sometimes I get a little scared that people will take it very stereotypical, which doesn't do so well in my school. I think she was wearing the wig and beanie as a way to hide it all, because she doesn't want to be seen as just a princess. Because of my personality I am a target for bullies. Maybe that is how jail break thinks as well.
