If EEAAO isnt winning picture, it has a chance in directing, and/or screenplay which is a sure lock. The only thing I can see it not winning is screenplay and Banshees can upset. Unless the Academy blatantly hates it.
La La Land took BAFTA and dominated. With SAG and WGA, the Academy not liking it is the only way it wont win. Haha

I’ve read some of the anonymous ballots, and apparently a few people aren’t going with Butler because of his youth and relative “newcomer” status. I had a feeling that was going to happen. Whether it’ll play a role beyond just a few people, I don’t know. This one is a coin flip for me, too. Both positives and negatives going in either direction.

    • @Price70
      @Price70 Год назад

@@claudettewright365 I've read some of that too and unfortunately it shows why these awards are BS because a lot of voters don't vote on performance but on unrelated garbage. I have found 5 pro Austin ballots that rave about him, and I swear every Farrell and Fraser one is never based on performance merits alone but narrative. It's pretty sad. Still have high hopes for the majority of the 9600 voters going with performance

    • @claudettewright365
      @claudettewright365 Год назад +3

@@Price70 And that’s exactly why the Oscars shouldn’t really be taken all that seriously. It never has been about “the best” of anything. It’s impossible to measure that. It’s too subjective and there are too many movies that come out every year to even have a realistic chance at any real analysis. Instead, they typically like to award the “most important” of something - movies that were impactful and memorable.
Plus, with the youth actor thing, I think part of that is because a lot of industry folk know that winning an Oscar too early can actually hurt your career in the long-run. It’s happened to most young first-time, first-nom actors.

1st time here, 5 min in and confused, you dissed the Indie Spirit Awards ? I didn't get why, a decade ago it would have been the Spirit Awards that would have propelled a movie like EEAAO to a larger audience ? Then as you moved through the categories it seems like you haven't seen the movies except for EEAAO . This is just looking at how other shows voted and making predictions from there, I thought it was based on you calculating your own thoughts about the films and performances to come to your conclusions, that threw me off it wasn't what I expected.

    • @maplenerd22

      @michaelabbott516 Год назад

@@maplenerd22 Actually, as you can see by this years Indie's that they have predicted the Oscar winners many times before and dismissing them outright I just thought was odd because the vibe I got was they weren't prestigious enough to warrant serious consideration for this "critic" and as I said ten years ago it would have been the ISA that would have celebrated a film like Everything. I commented simply because I watched ISA the night before and everything won in all the same categories as it did last night which kind of was my point, don't dismiss them outright as they are worthy of inclusion if you are going to set up parameters to predict the outcome of the Oscar winners. That was my point.

Here are the 2023 lists of Academy Award nominees of 2022 that I hope they’d won (even though I never saw The Fabelmans nor Everything Everywhere All At Once), but they’re all great, fantastic movies. They don’t need an Oscar. The Oscars needs them. Awards are overrated anyway. But anyway, here they are.
    BEST PICTURE:
Everything Everywhere All At Once - Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and Jonathan Wang, producers
(Even though I never saw that movie though, but I think it deserved that win though. I really want either Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, or maybe even Top Gun: Maverick to win Best Picture too, because they’re all such great movies. If Top Gun: Maverick wins for Best Picture, then that means that Tom Cruise will finally win an Oscar for producing the film!)
    BEST DIRECTOR:
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert - Everything Everywhere All at Once
    or
    Steven Spielberg - The Fabelmans
    BEST ACTOR:
Austin Butler - Elvis as Elvis Presley
    BEST ACTRESS:
Michelle Yeoh - Everything Everywhere All at Once as Evelyn Wang
    BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:
Ke Huy Quan - Everything Everywhere All at Once as Waymond Wang
    BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
Angela Bassett - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as Queen Ramonda
    BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY:
Everything Everywhere All at Once - Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert
    or
The Fabelmans - Steven Spielberg and Tony Kushner
    BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAYS:
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery - Rian Johnson; based on characters created by Johnson and the film Knives Out
    or
Top Gun: Maverick - Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie; based on the film Top Gun written by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr.
    BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM:
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio - Guillermo del Toro, Mark Gustafson, Gary Ungar and Alex Bulkley
(I think Turning Red or Puss In Boots: The Last Wish should either both win in my opinion, because I find Guillermo’s Pinocchio too sad at the end.)
    BEST ORIGINAL SCORE:
    Babylon - Justin Hurwitz
    BEST ORIGINAL SONG:
"Hold My Hand" from Top Gun: Maverick - music and lyrics by Lady Gaga and BloodPop
    BEST SOUND:
Top Gun: Maverick - Mark Weingarten, James H. Mather, Al Nelson, Chris Burdon and Mark Taylor
    BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN:
Avatar: The Way of Water - Production Design: Dylan Cole and Ben Procter; Set Decoration: Vanessa Cole
    BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY:
    Elvis - Mandy Walker
    BEST HAIRSTYLING & MAKEUP 💄:
The Batman - Naomi Donne, Mike Marino and Mike Fontaine
    BEST COSTUME DESIGN:
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Ruth Carter
    BEST FILM EDITING:
Elvis - Matt Villa and Jonathan Redmond
    or
Everything Everywhere All at Once - Paul Rogers

I really don't care about GG and Bafta, for me this year is not even close and this category shouldnt be discussed. I think Brendan Fraser should be locked cause he was much much better. I'm rooting for wins Banshees, everything everywhere....., and Babylon. I'd also be happy if Fraser and Riseborough win. Great performances.
Rooting against All quiet.... ( feels like homework. One time watch) women talking (worst film of the year . disgusting), top gun 2 ( its ok but not really my kinda thing)

Cate Blanchett can still win. Not because of color of her skin but because of her performance, it was perfect. Idk why so many people want Michelle to win...

…because she did more acting, had more to do, and because she knocked it out of the park. Idk why people think we want her to win *only* because she’s a woman of color. We want her to win because of both reasons. She gave the better performance AND because she’s a woman of color.

@@yorkierussell9255 Did I say that Michelle played badly? I just said that Cate played no worse than her. And what do you mean by "more acting"? Cate fucking Blanchett admitted in an interview that this role changed her, broke her to some extent, which is very surprising, because she is not 18 years old and it is difficult to surprise her. That's why I got the impression that you didn't really watch the movie either.
Btw Michelle recently published a post where she demanded this Oscar, saying that Cate is a veteran. That she doesn't need an Oscar. Is that what you mean by " Michelle has more acting"?

@@wooderu Did Cate Blanchett have to do martial arts, basically do every movie genre in 1 movie, go back and forth between Chinese & English (which aren’t related at all, unlike English & German which are extremely close) in multiple scenes, have a million and a half costume changes, have to interpret different versions of her character in many different universes, and on top of that have emotional/dramatic scenes? I didn’t think so!
Cate gave a showy performance where she had to perform music a few times, had a lot of dramatic scenes, and one scene where she spoke German (again - a language very close to English) for a few seconds. Not anywhere close to what Michelle had to do. That’s what I mean by Michelle had to do more acting. Michelle deserved that award more than anyone! She worked her tail off and did what 99.999999% of actresses couldn’t do. That viral pic of her with of all her sticky notes alone should tell you how difficult that role was!

@@yorkierussell9255 at first, it was no one scene with speaking German but three as minimum and i don't agree with you that German is similar to learn as i learning it now being russian at the same time. And also... Cate told that she listened Zontag's interviews to imitate Lidya's voice. I rewatched both films today and I really can't understand what did Michelle do better than Cate. I think the acting Kate did was anything she had never done before, she made a person who is still real for many people. And i don't really want to argue with you afterall. As Michelle had already won this Oscar that made me very upset. So... that's that. I can do nothing about it. The THING is Michelle didn't have to create someone.

I don’t get the huge hype on EEAAO it was good but not great. It felt like Scott Pilgrim vs the World but with a higher budget. Such Weird characters introduced that made no sense. Lots of just over the top unrealistic weird sh*t. Didn’t resonate with me at all.

@@Trav2733 It just won 7 Oscars this year. Before you go justifying that it won the awards because people are scared to offend, understand that Academy Awards are voted by secret ballot. No one knows who voted for what. So, no voter should be scared of woke backlash or come off as racist when the votes are made in secret. Despite that, they won 7 Oscars. It goes to show a lot of people liked this film including people in the industry that votes in the Academy Awards.
