Thranduil's story is actually really sad. His wife is dead. The gems he wants from the Mountain are actually his dead wife's necklace. He's lost so much and only wants to protect his people and son while forever grieving for his wife. Elves only fall in love once. There was a deleted scene they excluded that explained Thranduil's motivation. Wish they'd kept it so the audience would understand that he's not some smug asshole. He's a grieving husband, a widowed father, and a king with the safety of his people on his shoulders.
In the beginning he did not help the Dwarves because they had betrayed him. He had commissioned them to make his wife's necklace. Due to the dwarf king having dragon sickness, he gave into greed, and refused to hand the necklace over to Thranduil. A scene we actually see when he closes the necklace box in front of Thranduil. Thranduil left but not after repeated warnings that the dwarf king's mountain of gold and gems were going to attract a dragon to their kingdom. He was right. Smaug came. He refused to help due to his grudge but also because he did not want to risk the lives of his people against a beast they could not slay. Remember they needed black arrows. A dragon is a mighty opponent. He refused to have his people die to defend another kingdom.
Thranduil normally distrusts outsiders since his wife's death and sticks to the borders of his kingdom. Refusing to get in the business of others.

The song during the credits was sung by Billy Boyd, who played Pippin in LotR. The music video gives a good wrap up with behind the scenes bits from all 6 movies and it's really touching.
Gandalf and some of the dwarves do visit Bilbo from time to time as the travel between their old home near the shire and the Lonely Mountain. A few show up to Bilbo's party with toys for all of the kids who attended.
Balin leads a few others try to retake Moria (as we learn in LotR as Gimli says if they should travel through Moria his cousin Balin would give them a royal welcome).
When Sauron goes looking for the ring, he sends a messenger to the Lonely Mountain to ask where Bilbo is. King Dain refuses to tell, so mercenaries attack, which is why the dwarves are too busy to join the battles in LotR. Gloin and his son Gimli go to Rivendell to find out what's going on, which is how they end up in the Fellowship movie.
Favorite characters? Bilbo, Gandalf, and Smaug. Though I also love Balin, Bofur, and Radagast.

And Thorin Oakenshield had his final redemption. According to the book, he was buried like you saw at the end, with the Arkenstone over the chest, and with his legendary sword Orcrist, the goblin-cleaver. In his farewell... I always cry. A true KING.
PD: In the theatrical version, scenes like Thorin´s funeral, weren´t included in the footage. That was a real shame. We only saw these scenes in the extended version later.

(Also the mini battle between the Elves and Dwarves is only extended too...or at least the Dwarvish weapon that shatters the Elf arrows scene)

To answer your question Mr Flicks where's Gimli he was still a child during The Hobbit movies and i know this because in The Desolation Of Smaug when Bilbo and the Dwarves are in the forest with all of the Spiders and the Elves come in and save and capture them Legolas and Gloin have a short conversation about pictures of Gloin's wife and son and when Legolas looks at the son's picture he ask Gloin what is this horrid creature a Goblin Mutant and Gloin replies with that's my wee lad Gimli

23:33 “Or was I thinking about another character?” Unfortunately, no, we don’t see Thranduil in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. I believe the person you’re thinking of is Haldir. It’s an easy mistake to make though, we see him briefly in Fellowship of the Ring, but then in Two Towers, he’s also a blonde dude who shows up with an army of elves (Helms Deep)
28:02 “Damn! This is PG-13?” Short answer? No. 🤣 Not the one you’re watching anyway. Funny story; across the theatrical and extended editions of all six movies (yes, I double checked all 12 of my DVD sets 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣) the extended edition of Battle of the Five Armies is the only version of any of these movies that’s rated R
32:06 “Did I miss something?” The ‘sticky forehead’ dwarf has had an ax sticking out of his face since the first movie. The character has only spoken the dwarvish language up to this point because of it (according to the actor in behind-the-scenes DVD extras). Basically when he got stuck to the orc, it was because the ax sticking out of his face got embedded into the orc, and when they got pulled apart, the ax came out of his face 🤣
Fun fact for whenever you watch this movie again; the end credits song for this movie was sung by Billy Boyd, the actor who played Pippin in the other trilogy
Lastly, I’m just going to say that I am so glad you did your reaction to the extended editions. So much got cut out of this movie (not just battle things that made the difference between PG-13 and R). Thorin, Fili, and Kili’s funeral was the really big one: after three movies of watching the King, his nephews and several of his friends try to reclaim their home, the entire Royal line dies in the battle, and not only do we not get their friends mourning them, we don’t see who is crowned king after that. Another one that comes to mind is the death of that really annoying character. They spent a large chunk of the last movie and more than half of this one pissing us off with his antics, only for him to just stop showing up suddenly. If you only watch the theatrical version, you never get the satisfaction of his fate

When the eagles appeared and you were asking who was riding them, remember, they aren't just regular dumb animals. They are higher up in the pecking order than Gandalf is. They come to his aid as favors to him, but they typically stay out of conflicts.
Also, a lot of people like to say, for the LOTR, that the fellowship should have just ridden the Eagles to Mordor. There are other reasons why that wouldn't have gone well, but the Eagles cannot be looked at like horses with wings. Asking to ride the eagles would probably be like asking Gandalf to carry you around personally. SO disrespectful.

The reason we don’t just “take Alfrid out” was spelled out several times. Some who live deserve death, and many die who deserve more life…can you give it to them? Don’t be so eager to deal out death and judgment. Even the wise cannot see all ends. Without Gollum, Frodo would have become the Dark Lord. What if Bilbo had killed him? Even the Valar don’t know all that Eru has in store, or His purpose for each of His children.

When the extras mobbed Alfred and were pulling him, they actually almost seriously injured the actor, they got over zealous and those screams are all too real, they almost pulled his limbs from the sockets.
Top 3: Bilbo, Gandalf, and Beorn.
Not even sure how to spell that thing you wanted as a hashtag.
23:40 yes a different character, you were thinking of Haldir I think.
32:30 yes they showed it in the beginning of An Unexpected Journey. It was why he only spoke Dwarvish until the axe was removed.
43:14 there was actually supposed to be a conversation between Gandalf and Bilbo here, but I think it was both Martin Freeman and Ian McClellan that said the scene shouldn't have any dialogue, and Peter Jackson agreed it would be better.
The hate it gets is because they added stuff from the Silmarillian into the movie and did a whole bunch of changes including the addition of Tauriel and Legolas into the story, changing Bard drastically. The thing they did right was killing Fili, Kili, and Thorin. In the animated movie they killed SEVEN dwarves but they cut Beorn from that one.

Honestly, I do really enjoy these movies. Do I love them as much as the other trilogy? No, but it’s entirely possible that nostalgia plays a factor in that. I was 11, 12, and 13 when the LotR trilogy came out, 22, 23, and 24 when this one did. The movies are just gonna hit different, that’s all there is to it.
I know people have opinions about the love triangle between Kili, Tauriel, and Legolas. And I know Evangeline Lilly did an interview where she basically explained that the love story wasn’t in the original script and was only tacked on in reshoots after the fact because the production companies wanted it. But not knowing that at the time, I had just gotten out of a relationship about a week before I saw this in theaters, and that “why does it hurt so much?” absolutely destroyed me. Everyone’s gonna have a different experience with movies, and it’s always kind of annoyed me how much hate this trilogy got

    • @lailaalanna315
