Ulsan's face before picking Clive was like "I didn't wanna do this, but here we are 🤷". Edit: Phi skipped past Ulsan's initial internal conflict at the character select screen, but you can still see the disappointment in his face lol.
Well well well, ShillDX is out here trying to show us a well put together set of data about Clive and encouraging us to form our own opinions. What a cringelord, r/Tekken will be hearing about this!
It is kinda shilly. He was really defending Clive's shittiness early on and has now gotten to a more level analysis after seeing general audience's reaction
Clive's moves have the same properties that make inclined to think it's Jin players that gravitate towards him. If Jin's moves have less startup frames which makes him "safe" to take turn again, Clive's moves have a huge range that makes him "safe" to take turn again. What you end up seeing is the same gameplay from these players and at high level game play there's just enhanced movement and timing. With Steve I found that that if you anticipate properly you can db1+2 PC most of Clive's flashy moves. And hard read when lows come from PHX stance.
Im tgs with jin and tg with clive, even tho they are both brainrot broken they dont really have many similarities at all, jins demon paw isnt homing and he dosent have those broken stance mixups but clive dosent have a long range mid ch launcher and dosent have broken lows or poking like jin does, you are onto nothing

People in T7 were asking for Tifa, weve got Noctis and everyone was annoyed with him. Repeat again in T8 except hes even more extreme than Noctis and hes hated even more for that reason, and once again no Tifa because some 'Clive' almost nobody knows about shows up. Yea great job Namco
I really think f1+2 and 1+2 should be unsafe. That would fix a huge amount of the problem people have with him. F1+2 would still be an incredible whiff punish (especially as it launches in heat), but you wouldn't be able to just throw it out whenever and completely stop your opponent's ability to step. 1+2 should absolutely be the same as Heihachi and Reina. There is zero logical reason for it to be safe. It should only be a punish/wall combo ender.
B1+2 also needs to be touched to reduce the range a little bit. If 1+2 is unsafe, it would be good to make Df1 i13 to be a true mid check otherwise he would actually get run over by most characters. If they want to keep Df1 at i14 then 1+2 should be safe. That one in particular is tricky to balance
The amount of times in ranked I steal games from using Clives DF+1 4 3 is insane because no one expects the 3 and they try to take their turn because of the slight delay then it leads to huge damage off the 2. And then sometimes i'll just do DF+1 4 and they keep blocking cuz they scared to get hit by the 3 and I can just steal my turn back.
As both a very big final fantasy fan (including ff16 and clive himself as a character in his own game) and a big tekken fan, it makes me really sad that the inclusion of one of my favorite characters is dividing the community so much. I won't say it isn't understandably so, I think for the health of the game he probably should be nerfed. But it still makes me really sad how people are reacting to clive himself.
It does suck that it divides the community, but the amount of 1+2 and f 1+2 just has been spammed along with the counter mixture power crush titan fist has all been spammed to death. Those 3 moves at the very least should be tweaked for how much it overshadows the entire move set that was given to him.
I like this video. The last one felt like BS, but now that you've broken down your perspective I see where you coming from. I think the problem with Clive is if you take away his f 1+2, 1+2 and nerf power crush, he becomes ASS! So IF they do that they have to buff some of his other moves to give you some safe options. Otherwise he'll be easily step-able (if they nerf the tracking on the problematic moves, which they should) but he also becomes easily punishable. He'll have the range, but if they nerf the recovery on parry, he becomes the guy that gets his ass handed to him as soon as you get in his face. It's tricky, and honestly it might just be bad character design overall. Right now he's overly tuned, but taking away what makes him great will make him bad. So idk. I'm going to have faith in the devs to make the right decision to balance him properly because I play Clive and I don't want him to be butchered to the point I can't be effective with him anymore. Far as everything else in the vid, your concerns about season 2 and the overall direction of Tekken 8, I agree. One wrong move in the wrong direction with these new moves and things without adjusting what's already there will be bad for the health of the game and the excitement for tournament play. We'll just have to wait and see.
I dont dislike clive being in tekken hes just boring to fight i dont really even lose to him more than another character. Hes that one spongebob meme where patrick orders the same meal every time time and squidwerds like daring today arent we, but its f 1+2 hes the epitome of you only need these 10 moves to play
Everyones putting clive in top 10 or so. I believe, if you play him correctly, hes easily top 3. He has almost no weaknesses except MAYBE for his lows. His only really good low is D 1 or full crouch df 2. His db4 is fast but launch punishable. Same with phoenix shift 3. Everything else about the guy is near perfect. Of course his df 1 strings arent safe. Df 1 2, and DF 1 2 1 are both -15 but I think thats fair considering you get a guaranteed wall splat from landing a simple DF 1. He isnt absolutely perfect, but its damn close.
If we had a infinite stage with Clive. This would’ve been such a snoozefest due to the amount of 1+2 and f 1+2 spam. And the counter power crush titan fist. Like it just seems so un-fun to handle since you try to side step you get screwed, you korean back dash then oh no you get caught by a f 1+2 why? Because how much it tracks.
7:14 i think its a problem with the game in general... rules just dont apply anymore... devil jins samsara can go under some mids too, paul also has stuff that can go under mids and theres probably more but its too much evasion, it breaks the rules of the game.. i dont think its intentional, or if it is its stupid.
very accurate, tekken 8 has so many mid crushes on characters that doesnt typically have them. if it was xiaoyu or zafina i might understand, but when characters like paul, jin, and clive crushing mids, breaking the rule of the game is making me frustrated to even continue playing
I’m not a Tekken player, I’m primarily a street fighter and KOF player but I’ve been learning Virtua fighter as my first real 3D fighter because it appeals more than Tekken. And I wonder to all the people who think Clive is too much, that Tekken is too obnoxious now, too many metres and neutral skips etc, will you swap to VF?
To be honest, what I really don't like about Clive is the Ridiculous amount of space control that he has, starting with FF1+2 is literally a perfect button that does everything right and that tells a lot since my main Bryan has a lot of space control on his Homing moves and some Key moves like Requiem or Incinerator. As for his design, he looks sick, not gonna lie, but for being a Guess character in a fighting game like Tekken, why not picking a fighter like idk, Baki? It doesn't have to be Tifa because it seems that the developers don't wanna do it, but Clive has that Power Crush that is really Strong and going against him is almost impossible because of how much reach and tracking has some of the moves. If they nerf him, that's fine. But idk, I'm just not convinced enough of Clive.
i rather not have guest characters if they are going to be bad choices like Clive,, much prefer if they just bring back fan favorite and classic characters back or make new original tekken 8 characters.. Wanna do guest right ? make sure they fit tekken on both esthetics and gameplay
This match reminds me of the issue with the NBA no longer are we seeing dynamic play in the paint teams are MOSTLY shooting 3s with the hope that if I shoot more the opportunity for more points is higher. Makes for boring games Nonetheless I’m enjoying tekken. Love the content phi 🙌

basically if this is the tekken future, we're cooked. Being stressed by having to guess perma while having 75% of screen taken by effects. Ye its skill issue. Does it really have to be skill issue this way? I wonder
Yup people are finally realizing how broken and babied his kit is. UNSTEPPABLE SAFE MID NON INTERRUPTIBLE MOVE f1+2 is simply breaking the game. But it’s negative let me attack of wait he has a parry, it’s never really your turn. Dumb character design. I’d take a drag any day over playing against this playstyle.
clive made me learn yoshimitsu man just so i can be out here reching him from three miles away. love tekken, not sure if im happy with the changes coming up.
The people who want those aforementioned characters are part of a small minority. Spending the time and money to make those characters DLC for Tekken 8 probably isn't worth it in Bandai Namco's eyes.
I agree I'd much prefer either returning and updated actual Tekken characters or new actual Tekken characters. But, as previously mentioned for it to be worth them making the effort, they have to forecast that people will be interested in paying for it, and I guess they forecast that not every former character will pay enough dividends for them to bother.
This character is so boring to watch. I started playing TTT2 again on the ps3 emulator and found lobbies all the time. Really hope season 2 fixes clive and a lot of the system mechanics (like armored heat engagers and -9 power crushes)

Clive doesn't have a i13 DF1, 1+2 is his fastest mid check. The most it can lose without being gutted is tracking to the left

Because clive isnt a tekken character. He is more fit for Soul Caliber or MK. Busted, cluttered and ungodly range.
