@ The game is not balanced, but then our opponents and our gameplay is not balanced. I don’t sweat tier lists. Yes you can feel some characters are tougher than others, but I’ve beaten said good characters. Good Tekken players, that’s a different story. Overall I love the game and the fact that we hope for a perfectly balanced game is fantasy land. Not even sure that’s possible theoretically if you think about it.
I’m convinced at this point that a lot of pros don’t have a grasp on heat so they just keep making plus frames what make a character really good instead of range, mix ups, wonky animation. Idk Clive is easily top 8 Character is stupid
This wasn’t even the most offensive display of Clive gameplay either. The Clive mirror (I think between Mulgold and Meo-Il) where they did like 15 f1+2’s in one round was very, very reminiscent of EVO Japan Leroy. I don’t think Clive is THAT good, but he’s definitely a big problem.
Came back to say it was Ulsan vs Mulgold in the Winners final. Ulsan switches to Clive after going down 0-2 and the set is just really degenerate in general.

@@GotekSC I was referring to T7. yeah I agree that the previous character are quite balanced but the market stratategy here its obvious, last character of the season presented at game awards to hook players up into the next season
Anyone complaining about Clive has a MAJOR SKILL ISSUE. Just learn the match up, my god. Lab him. You guys think you're good at Tekken? Seriously? You can't deal with 12-frame, mid, tracking moves with invincibility on startup, armor during active frames, launcher, hits across the whole screen, wall splats, safe on block, and charges your credit card $250 on each hit? How else are 12 year old anime lovers supposed to enjoy Tekken 8? They can't play Alisa with Special Style FOREVER, can they?
Tekken god ranked heihachi who plays gods, supremes and destruction ranks.. and i can confirm that its a little bit more than just a skill issue.. u can lab all day, but some players really know how to the bring the degenerate sh*t out.. he isn’t unbeatable but nonetheless, he IS a problem
Even if you ignore how strong Clive is at the pro-level, he’s just flat out annoying to fight at the casual level. F1+2 is obscene, there’s no way it doesn’t get touched in the next balance adjustment. Punishing some of his moves feels super inconsistent, idk if it’s the pushback from power crush or what but sometimes i13 or even i12 punishes won’t land. The parry is also a bit much, Clive is blessed with the slow down to guarantee follow ups but stuff like Leeroy’s perfect parry follow up or Feng’s shifting clouds auto-launch can be interrupted? I’m used to zoners in 2D games but it just feels so much more annoying in Tekken for some reason.
His power crush is safe from mid range. And I mean average mid range, not the moves mid range. Aka 1 step away, while the move hits from 8 steps away. Genius balancing.
@@kato093 maybe you just suck at the game because its actually -13 at the lowest safe at MAX distance because you are to far away from clive to punish so maybe go in clives close range where he actually blows cock with a terrible mid check. also clive has no plus frame while running 2 is only plus 2 on block
I'd be more upset if releasing a new character intentionally overturned to inflate sales wasn't so damn obvious. The real annoying part is the community trying to gaslight you into thinking it's not obvious
Someone who started tekken 4 years ago...played even with intermittent breaks I still had over 100 hours a month on Tekken atleast. For the first time I had less than 100 hours on Tekken in December. Its gonna be even lower in January cuz cuz Clive came out in middle of December. It's not all on Clive but the Dev's who can't seem to understand how to make an enjoyable new character. Why does every new character have a stance bullshit? Even worse with clive as they also gave him complete space control.
Except worse. Because at least 2,2 was a close range move. Clive has the Kuni tracking, but from the length of a football field. Having played both, they're very different to pilot, with Kuni being great at small Tekken, and Clive being great at big Tekken. But their ability to lockdown movement is nuts, for sure. I think this might be even more obnoxious in some ways, just because the heat engager aspect breaks the game. There needs to be balance adjustments 100%.
This, you actually at an advantage if you respect him. Most of his moves rely on your opponent to press a button. Clive usually tries to open you up with his dash stance mixup, grabs, or simply lows. If you make the correct read it's an easy punish
@@Everybodyhasaprycedumbass? He doesn't have her f2 projectile that is stupid fast and catches sidewalking with dash realignment and it's also mid safe on block that can launch while in rage. Wow, just like Clive's f1+2 that also launches spending heat. No way...
Clive with the infinite reach with sword slash and then he also has a big parry game where he can almost parry anything and everything when just about to get hit he teleports and punishes instead...in one of my online matches I found out about this the hard way 😢😢😢
Raven's parry, but with no drawbacks. Raven teleports away & is so minus when he does that no follow-up is guaranteed. If he does it from backturn, he's still so minus that anyone who's ready for it can turn around to block once he teleports behind them. If they have backturn offense like Xiaoyu, Raven can be launched after a successful parry. He also takes chip damage every time he does the parry successfully. Clive gets the same thing, only there's zero drawback & he gets guaranteed damage lmao.
For the valorant players out there, it's just like day 1 chamber. His kit was busted on release but there were a LOT of people calling him balanced. All of them look stupid as hell now, and the same will happen for the clive defenders of today
For a character that summons the strength of many powerful creatures, the attack that scares me the most is his li'l toe kick from phoenix shift. Stay away from my toesies, Clive!
(f1+2) and (1+2) are so dumb man, they should be unsafe or have the tracking removed. He already have dumb stance 50/50 mixup, insane dmg, and dumb FC mixup with unparryable long range low...he does not need those god buttons that's both safe and heat engage...
1+2 has no tracking, super linear and the range is ass and he also loses his turn. 🤣 you just suck at fighting him, it's just F1+2 that's annoying and bullshit
@sbilly17 are you listening to yourself? 🤣, who in the game has an unsafe 13 frame mid check? You want to nerf a move that has no range, has no tracking, he loses his turn, he can't parry or sidestep after? You wanna nerf it why? What is he supposed to then use to check opponents? His df 1 is 14 frames, and he has no good mid check. All others are highs. So because it's a heat engager, then it should be made unsafe? 🤣
@sbilly17 That's the funny part 🤣 I don't even main him. I'm just amazed at how you're just mouthing off without actual reason. Humor me, why should 1+2 be nerfed, what about the move is broken. Enlighten me cause we all know why
Point Blank pressure is pretty good against Clive. I really struggle with him against Rush Down characters like Hwoarang and Lidia. Steve and Nina are also pretty hard to handle and Yoshimitsu is outright impossible if the player knows what they're doing. F1+2 will have to be nerfed eventually and i'm not against it. But he will end up exactly like Jun and Devil Jin afterwards, getting few of their key moves toned down and suddenly they are at the lower half of the tierlist. Clive won't be dominating for very long, he is just enjoying the newcomer advantage. For now keep in mind he is giving up his turn every time he does it, leaving him right close up to you (where he doesn't want to be) and on whiff recovers super super slow. Yes, Clive players online whiff that thing a lot and that's pretty normal if you're navigating a character that wants to be at mid-range. Depending on the character you can launch-punish it very reliably (f3 with Clive, b3 with Hwoarang, u1+2 with Alissa, delayed cd2 with Jin, ff2 with Victor, Jun and Aska etc).
The characters you struggle against usually exposes players defence and if you dont move correctly away from them they auto win neutral. Its like many of you players even at my rank God you dont move you Can Block but why try and guess hwo’s mixups or steves free frames moving around is your issue I Think
@Sage_6reen if Clive parries right after, it gets stuffed by jab strings, it'll only work if you play a slow option after (I've tested it). parry works best for Clive when he's -4 to -6. They're definitely making f1+2 steppable and probably punishable though
@@krisztianfrandsen8780 my man, absolute top top players are complaining about Nina and Yoshimitsu. I don't wanna hear anything about exposing defensive skills.
Now that the sales of the character are mostly done, its time to talk about balance. Waiting for a tmm video where he acknowledges this and we can wrap this up.
LMAO MainManswe reminds of Skill4ltu. For me it’s not even the matchup, but the sensory overload. One button and there’s all these effects on the screen and I lose focus of what’s going on and then once the match is over, I need 5 minutes to gather myself and recover.
People didn't listen cause they think people pointing out obvious bad things I'd lsck of skill or hating on the character cause they themselves will use them for the broken factor then when they nerf the shit out of them they disappear. I don't rematch against these f-ers
Would be cool to see the pros in a tournament where the opponent picks your fighter, or the tournament themselves picks based on your history. Force the pros to show what they got with other characters
Its definitely not fun to watch and nor is it fun to play against clive. Idk what they were thinking... why did they even think this was okay? Im expecting and hoping for some massive nerfs next season, but i have low expectations considering their lack of action thus far with certain characters.
The problem is that the reach puts him into an entirely different strategic area. He doesn't need to have plus frames or even negative frames below -8 and -9. His biggest strength is that he can intimidate you completely outside your range. He has solid tools on top of the reach. If you mess up, you take Bryan levels of damage but from farther away. Take any other safe heat engager, and double the range. Literally the same situation.
Ok, huge rant incoming: Not gonna lie, Clive represents the absolute WORST of Tekken 8, and that says alot. This game has it's obvious flaws and Clive is basically the epitome of that. The over-the-top cringy animé effects of his moves. The 5 second of cutscenes everytime you press a button, the long cutscenes of rageart that just take you out of the zone of a fastpaced fightinggame. The projectiles and lazers and the flying and whatnot. You can't even see what the hell is going on. And I've not even talked about his broken moves, the forces 50/50s, the unseeable and thus unreactable mix-ups that basically makes the game a casino. A full screen powercrush with pushback, a 16 frame mid-mid homing heat engager that's safe on block. Cheap unreactable lows out of stance. The absolute worst of Tekken flowcharting. It's so bad, it's not even fun to win with Clive because you know you only won because the opponent happened to guess wrong, not because you had the better fundamentals or better technique. That's Tekken 8 in a nutshell right now, and Clive is a leading example. VF6 is looking better and better everyday and I'll jump the ship as soon as possible.
Oh because Virtua Fighter is so known for not having constant 50/50 checks, high aggression and safe on block strings. Have you ever touched a VF? It's gonna be a nasty shock.
Unless I'm mistaken and they already do, I wish they would release characters through a playtest first. But I guess that would eliminate the surprise factor of releasing them
Clive is strong but not broken IMO. I think a lot of people have gotten used to rush down offense in T8 which Clive’s kit counters that really well. People side step my F 1+2 to the right quite often but I also don’t spam it. Most of his moves give up his turn. I would say his power crush is the most OP.
@@DennisTheZZZ I can understand the safe part as T8 added demon paw. But the good tracking of both hits is utterly brain-ded. And he already has that crazy high b2 which is practically homing. These days I could only win against bad Clive by forward dash blocking sticking close all the time. But there's no way it works against good players.
I only had to see Clives trailer and I went from wanting Tekken 8 as my first fighting game when I can afford to upgrade to ps5 to "I'll probably get it sometime after vf6"

f+1+2 having a tracking nerf would be fine imo, it's a good move with a lot of properties but being able to step it would be death with how far he advances and how long the whole animation takes to play out.
@T3hBadger even just making the second hit steppable would be fine. A lot of times I've used it at range, the first hit would whiff but the second one would track. That's bullshit lol. But generally, these devs can sometimes go over the top with nerfs. That would be a shame because Clive is a pretty cool character and they've done a good job overall.

I quit tekken 8 after Heihachi. Tekken is 31 years old now. They KNOW how to balance characters, but they purposely release DLC characters in this state so more people buy them. They added a store a month after release after they promised the community they would not. And idc if I sound crazy, when they changed matchmaking to prioritise prowess, it was 100% some EOMM BS designed to keep you stuck and drive up player retention. This company spent 31 years building up good will, just to cash it all in.

I’m not saying I was the only one or the first to say it, but now, im seeing the same exact people who attacked me, complaining about him now. I really really really hate our community.
The Tekken community is dishonest, as a whole. Everyone looks at the game exclusively through the perspective of the character they main, rather than looking at the bigger picture for the game overall (like Phi & other creators do). As such, there are probably a ton of people downplaying Clive because they have a pocket Clive in high ranks, and they're just gonna downplay to hell & back.
@@pichaelthompson that's it? i made a post on reddit pointing out all the flaws I felt this game had. honest opinion which i am entitled to btw cuz i paid full price to buy this game. @pledgedsun0752 everybody swears on their mother's life that this game is balanced like G it's not some characters blatantly are playing a different game and doesn't have to respect the same rules. Like this game isn't bad by no means but people love to lie to themselves.

Ulsan switches to Clive after going down 0-2 and the set is just really degenerate in general.
he's definitely a problem in high level when one of his core moves eradicates every option a player can face.

If VF 6 is groundbreaking like a lot of us are hoping.....y'all can bet Tekken 9 will be more grounded and with less 3D-but-2D-anime-fighter non-sense. Y'all heard it here first.

i have never been less interested in playing Tekken than right now with Clive gameplay

Thank you for the tech roll tip at the end. I did not know you could do that against Bryan.
its insane how devs really don't care. There is no way one comes up with those overtuned moves by accident. they just did it for profit. again. Its honestly just sad

This type of analysis commentary is so good. Would love to see PhiDX as a commentator in a Tekken lilve event
Clive is a character with upgraded stats and range that you pay just a little extra for to use. A pay to play if you will.

@andreirving779 oh dear. I ain't mad at it but BOY do I hate fighting King. Lol
You don't think he's broken? The funny thing is, he is! ☠
clive reminds me t7 kuni, you cant move vs him at any range without danger of being clipped by random shit. just sit still and play 2d
@@Everybodyhasapryce i mean playing against him feels kinda same, kuni had buttons to clip you from football field too
This, you actually at an advantage if you respect him. Most of his moves rely on your opponent to press a button. Clive usually tries to open you up with his dash stance mixup, grabs, or simply lows. If you make the correct read it's an easy punish
except Kuni shit was minus on block while Clive is safe .
@@Everybodyhasaprycedumbass? He doesn't have her f2 projectile that is stupid fast and catches sidewalking with dash realignment and it's also mid safe on block that can launch while in rage. Wow, just like Clive's f1+2 that also launches spending heat. No way...

I knew this was coming. Bamco and their bad business practices
Clive with the infinite reach with sword slash and then he also has a big parry game where he can almost parry anything and everything when just about to get hit he teleports and punishes instead...in one of my online matches I found out about this the hard way 😢😢😢
the exagerated visual effects alone make him a pain to play against. personaly I just block any Clive player that I go up against.
Paul has range 3.0 hit engager safe low crush homing mid also haha.
For the valorant players out there, it's just like day 1 chamber. His kit was busted on release but there were a LOT of people calling him balanced. All of them look stupid as hell now, and the same will happen for the clive defenders of today

Depending on the character you can launch-punish it very reliably (f3 with Clive, b3 with Hwoarang, u1+2 with Alissa, delayed cd2 with Jin, ff2 with Victor, Jun and Aska etc).
anyways i want him nerfed to the ground
Giving up his turn if he doesn't parry right after
The characters you struggle against usually exposes players defence and if you dont move correctly away from them they auto win neutral.

Ok, huge rant incoming:
Not gonna lie, Clive represents the absolute WORST of Tekken 8, and that says alot.
