A Tribute to New York’s Wildest Woman: Jewelry Legend Elsa Peretti | Hello Fashion | Kate Young

- Elsa Peretti recently passed away, on March 18, 2021, at age 80. She has been an enormous inspiration to me in my life and work. This episode is my paean to her-and to some of the brilliant things she made in her lifetime.
I begin by discussing Elsa’s famous Bottle necklace. Next I explore her work with the fashion designer Halston, for whom she was a muse, friend, and model, as well as a designer-she created an iconic fragrance bottle and some jewelry for him. After that, I get into her multifaceted design work with Tiffany & Co., including her Open Heart necklace, Bone cuffs, terracotta Bone candlestick holders, and Fishbowl vessel, in addition to her experiences in the late 1970s Studio 54 scene. I also talk about her long-standing collaboration with the photographer Hiro, who created images that, when I looked at them in Vogue magazine in my youth, just made me ache for their beauty.
I finish the episode on Elsa’s gold mesh bra for Tiffany-maybe my favorite Elsa design of all-which Zoë Kravitz wore to the Vanity Fair Oscars party in 2019. Elsa famously said, “Style is to be simple. I like to push myself to achieve excellence and eliminate all excess detail.” This episode is a celebration of that ethos.

This is like a seminar for those who only wished they got to study at Parsons
I got in but I was too broke to go! 😂😂😂
I went to Paris Fashion Institute for s summer session.
I knew I wanted to go to Parsons
Love your pants. Great toggle.
Jewellery is such an underrated aspect of fashion. It literally makes an outfit look luxe. Thanks for the knowledge on Elsa Peretti.
🤍
Dear Kate, thank you so much for coming to RUclips. It's so nice to see passion and incredible quality in everything you do. You are truly inspiring ✨
🤍
I love Elsa Peretti jewelry from Tiffany. Her designs are so clean yet whimsical & charming; hence they are always conversation pieces. RIP Ms Peretti...
🤍
I simply didn’t want that this episode to end! It’s just amazingly inspirational and beautiful and you should do this again with a lot of other iconic fashion faces! We have so much to learn from them and from you as well! Thank you for bringing this into our life! ❤️
Thank you!
So informative. I never realized she was the model in the bunny costume. That image is iconic.
🖤
Indeed!
Elsa Peretti revolutionized the jewelry industry with her brilliant and creative designs.
This episode was so informative and an amazing tribute to her legacy.✨
What a beautiful channel...so calming and precious. Thank You :)
❤️
I have long been aware of Elsa Peretti's designs but knew nothing of her life. And now, I'm obsessed (in a very good way)! What an intriguing woman! And what a life she led! Thank you for a lovely video.
🤍
Thank you for educating us in fashion. Your videos are free and accessible to all yet very informative, insightful and inspiring. 💕
Thank you!
This is what top-notch quality content looks like. Educational, inspiring, beautiful, and entertaining at the same time. Thank you for starting this channel, Kate. It makes my time spent on RUclips worth it. I become a more evolved and a cultured human being.
Thank you!
I've come here after watching Halston on Netflix in one binge sitting.
Thanks Kate. You're amazing.
It’s soooo good isn’t it?!?
@@kateyoung sooo so good.
I absolutely loved it. Halston's wardrobe in the series, my mood board for fall. Epic. The 70s were glorious!
What I loved most is I learned more about Elsa, about Liza, things I did not know. I was enthralled. I did not know that fashion event took place at Versailles.
And I had just been watching that 90s fashion documentary The Look, where I learned a great deal about the beginnings of Calvin Klein, our queen Donna Karan, who occupied the former Halston offices, and Ralph Lauren. So it all tied in when I watched Halston.
To see Ralph Lauren still in big business today is astounding. These designers went through alot. Respect.
And there's Liza and Angelica Huston who are still alive with those memories that we only glimpsed.
Amazing.
She was such a vibrant character, really resonate with her casual, embodied approach to the work. The bone-inspired pieces are incredible.
You should be so proud of your little growing channel. I really hope you find success with all the hardwork that put into your videos. Kudos to your team and editors too. Thank you Kate. Keep working hard, and we will be here cheering you on.
💕
i remember seeing pictures of Carine roitfeld in that necklace but never knew, thank you for the education. i'm obsessed now
🤍
Kate I think it's amazing when you talk about fashion icons. You should keep sharing stories about different eras and characters
❤️
I love her exquisite jewelry. A proud owner of her ring, pendant and earrings . RIP Miss. Peretti.
I'm glad to be offered your videos again after a few years!!
I love Elsa glasses. I was only familiar with her early work in fashion. I didn’t know she lived to an old age and still worked, how inspirational!
I LOVE her collections!!!! What a tribute to Elsa Peretti. Thank you!
Wow-wow-wow, so incredible video - your photos and videos so estetic and beautiful, so I want to rewatch again and again, thanks a lot
Lovely tribute. I used to tear the photos of her jewelry from Elle and Vogue in the early 90s and hang them on my wall. The ads were incredible. I would love to see a video about 70s- 80s-90s photography, it was so iconic.
I agree!
This history lesson is awesome....learned a lot!
💕
Elsa Peretti designed such iconic jewelry pieces ❤️
❤️
Beautifully done... honouring an exceptional woman and artist.
Just watched the show about Halston on Netflix and now this video Comes up! The photographs with Hiro are so beautiful
🤍
Thank you so much for sharing this wealth of information on Elsa Peretti. Her authentic personality has always shown on her designs and way of living. I am looking forward for your next episode as always. xo
What a talent…what a life. I adore Elsa !
🤍
Loved this was all Elsa. I worked at Tiffany's Beverly Hills for 11 years. I had the pleasure of meeting her and owning some of her designs that I'll cherish forever. xo
Amazing!!!
So, so true about the Halston perfume bottle. It is iconic and unforgettable. She sounds like someone I would want to sit down at a party and hear all her stories. This tribute is so heartfelt and beautiful! I get a real sense of who she was, but I also feel that way when I looking and wearing her jewelry. Thank you so much!
🤍🤍🤍
I bought a pair of earrings designed by her for my 25th birthday. I’m now 63 and still have them. Sterling ear bone cuffs from Tiffany.
🤍
I probably watched this one for 20 times and shared it with many ppl I hope they will be inspired.
This one episode was done from the heart, a marvelous work.
I worked at Bloomingdale's in Manhattan for 3 years in the jewelry dept. while going to school. There was a small area that was for Elsa Perriti jewelry and I always loved to go in and look at the pieces. They always felt organic and comforting in the hand. I just wish I had invested in a few pieces.
🤍
Loved this episode honoring Elsa Peretti’s legacy. I was very intrigued by the sentiment behind the ‘open heart’ necklace ❤️ and all of Elsa’s jewelry pieces were each masterpieces on their own ❤️ Love your channel!
Made me like that necklace so much more
That is culture and Art! Thanks. The fact that accomplishes fashion shows how intertwined they are!
*AWESOME FUCKING PIECE!! Just discovered her while watching the Netflix drama of Halston and never heard of her before, probably a typical casualty of time passing. Man she was stunning when she was younger! Loving your hair and RUclips channel, keep going!! Greetings from a straight guy in Canada!*
Thanks!
Hi Kate, It's really interesting to learn about the stories behind Elsa Peretti's designs. I've been admiring your collection for Monica Vinader and I can see you're giving back some love - really cool pieces.
THANK YOU, Kate !!! You speak SO WELL ! And you have SO MUCH insight and content !!! A video by you like this one is more than 2-3 weeks of modern commercial designs in an art college and 1 semester in a fashion school anywhere in the world...
Thank you 💕
You are a national treasure, just like Elsa, this is how fashion people should be. Full of vitality, appreciation, reverence, respect, humor, and dedication to craft. A historian part time. I ache to be a part of this world and one day soon I will. Thank you 🙏
saw this video on my yt feed, watched it, and now I'm sold to be a subscriber
Thanks!
Ohmygoodness you made me rediscover my fascination for the little vase necklace that she designed. I cannot imagine that there could exist a young girl - who when she first saw that in the window at Tiffany - didn’t beg her mother for one.❤️
❤️
Thank you Kate for your inspiring and artistic story telling. Distinguished quality indeed
💕
Love this channel that I can actually learn something about what the true fashion is

Thank you for the education and introducing us to an amazing artist. I was familiar with a few of these pieces but didn't realize how interconnected they were with Tiffany's history. I'm totally in love with the bone cuff, snake necklace and the mesh not that I know their history. Thank you again!

🤍
I love your channel. This episode was wonderful. Thank you.
Thank you!!!
My new favorite channel!
💕💕💕
Thank you. I came out n the 70's. Three of my great loves were finding my soul mate, dance music and Elsa Peretti silver jewelry. I have the bean, the medium size "jug", horseshoe belt, and large wrist cuff. I rarely wear any of these pieces but enjoy them as objects of art.
🤍
Thank you for such a beautiful, educational, and inspirational video!
🤍
This is the most wonderful tribute! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge! I have always loved Elsa Peretti jewellery but never known the fascinating inspirations behind her work!
🤍
Oh I remember those bangle bracelets! I love them too mostly for how substantial & solid they are are but also the smoothness. I can see how the bones influenced her designs. I also remember the open heart from the 70s & as a little girl just loving it. And those Halston bottles. I never knew that she designed them. I will have to find mine now. I didn't realize it had also been a necklace too. I recently purchased a necklace at Tiffany & Co. & as I was waiting I saw they had a display of the open hearts. ( currently they will only allow a few people in the store at a time & you must see only what you say your looking for- no browsing) I thought oh yes! I'm definitely coming back for one of those too! But I had no idea the inspiration behind it. Now I love it even more. Thank you
🤍
what an AMAZING video!!!! thank you Kate!!!!!
🤍
