- I really missed the Golden Globes this year. The Golden Globes is the first in a long run of awards shows that an actress will have to attend. It’s complicated to get the dresses because the ceremony comes right after New Year's Day and there aren't any new collections yet. From a fashion perspective, it’s a strange awards show because of that.
On this week’s episode, I go into my planning process for the Golden Globes: Which designer are we going to work with? Who best suits the actress? Depending on the schedule, and also the location of the designer, we have between one and as many as six fittings for a dress. A thing I love about the Golden Globes is that it’s when the jewelers bring in all the big diamonds to Los Angeles, and when I get to pick all of the jewelry for the awards shows. (Moving jewelry is incredibly complex, so they keep the selected pieces in L.A. through awards season.)
In addition, I highlight several of my very favorite, most spectacular Golden Globes dresses from over the years: a Chanel couture fall 2014 dress that Dakota Johnson wore, a Celine spring 2019 dress Rachel Weisz wore when she was nominated for “The Favorite,” and a Louis Vuitton a dress Michelle Williams wore when she was nominated for “Manchester by the Sea.”

My mother was a seamstress and I always lament the loss of this art
Usually I choose the tailor - or the designer does. But I also know which tailors are a good fit for each client personality wise

Hi Kate, what a delight your channel is! I have a wish, if I may please. I love Valentino - his period of the spectacular red dresses and coats. Could you make an episode on that - perhaps his couture? Also, another overlooked house nowadays is Schiaparelli and I simply do not understand why. They make some amazing whimsical otherworldly clothes and accessories. Why are they not more used for red carpet? Enquiring mind wants to know. Have a lovely week.
