  • It is amazing what can be learned by wearing a costume for a living! Rob Wicall will reminisce, while examining how serving a community has made him a better person. Rob will discuss how he created impactful moments, and how we all can use these purposeful tools to further our personal and business relationships.
Rob Wicall has built a career as a long standing athletic performer. Most recently known as the mascot for the San Antonio Spurs, Wicall won Best Video Skit of the Year in 2007, 2010, 2014, and 2015. He won Mascot of the Year in 2005 and 2014. Prior to his reign with the Spurs he served as mascot for the Washington Wizards and a water ski performer and announcer at Sea World of Texas. He now runs a business, considers himself a serial entrepreneur, and pours his efforts into charities including helping to create a local board for the Arthritis Foundation. Wicall was diagnosed with Arthritis in 2012. Besides giving back to his community, Rob is looking forward to writing, producing, public speaking and discovering other creative outlets.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I can relate to this, as a 501st member cosplay as a stormtrooper or jedi--u make a choice to be fun and responsive to others while in a costume...and everyone smiles and wants photos with you as a result. But doing that 24/7 without a costume would be challenging. Then again, it's a choice to put others needs first...

Its not that too easy to be assign to work as an mascot, every part of your body was covered, his determination to make people happy is the ultimate purpose reason why he is doing it, but on the other side if you're naturally a frank man you'll enjoy more and always do it for the entire life..

5:32-5:37 - Mascot moment revealed. NOW HE’S FAMILIAR 😂 I felt transported back to Spurs games, traveling from Austin, cheering for mostly Kobe but also Shaq, cursing out drunk Spurs fans (half of them are often drunk 😂) - in fluent Spanish & painfully articulate English, telling them exactly how and where to go F themselves. Once Bron finally leaves & trudges back to sorry Cleveland, I’ll respect my Lakers again. For now I cheer Curry & GSW. Now I’ll see Wemby… as he continues SA’s legacy of big men they stole by being blatant tanking quitters & NBA draft cheaters
