STRONGLY agree with hiding view count, been doing it for my entire 2 1/2 year run on twitch. Speaking of volatile, looking at view count has far too many possibilities of altering your mood mid stream. Some say "seeing a higher view count gives me motivation." Sure I'll give you that, but as a content creator you need to distance yourself emotionally from view count as much as possible in order for the experience to be actually enjoyable, and seeing a lower than expected viewer number can make that experience exactly the opposite.

Could not agree with you more and its a trap i have fallen into over and over again however i also know first hand that you can have say 25 viewers average and have a really quiet stream and then another day you can be on a 10 viewer stream and have lots of chat rolling/crazy donations/hype trains, you never know whats going to happen on twitch, as long as you stick to the fundamentals just keep going.

I can definately sign the hidden viewer count. when i began streaming, it always felt like i did something wrong when the counter drops even from like 5 to 4 and pressured me when i saw it goes up. So until i found out that you could actually hide the count, i covered the part of my screen that displays it. It is such a relief to not be pressured, especially if you think that like 3-4 are watching and get a notification about an average of 15 after the stream. So i can definately recommend doing that.

I started streaming four years ago without any knowledge or experience, and yes, I set myself up for a hard letdown not once, not twice, but many times. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've given up. Most of us are guilty of this mindset, but it's part of the learning experience. It's how we mature in this industry. You have to crawl before you can walk. Nowadays, I have fun. I don't think about fame and fortune. If it happens, it happens. If I have only one viewer in my chat, I treat that one viewer like 110k viewers. Don't get me wrong, I want to make it in this industry. I love what I do, yet I'm still finding myself here. Happy streaming to all of you, and have fun because remember, this is why we do what we do.

  • @CrayZgunZ

Also, I keep view count up because It has never altered my personality on stream, I streamed to NO ONE for a year and a half and honestly had a lot of fun either way. I learned from that 1 1/2 year that I know exactly what I want to do and stick with it.
Now I have some regulars and viewers... the only thing that has changed and is a bit harder to do is keep track of chat. I'm the same guy as last year, but with viewers. I'll find myself rambling on a subject far too long due to the habits of streaming to no one in the past.

The best advice I can give people is JUST DO IT.
It can be so so stressful, overwhelming and scary, when you do all these researches and you're like I can't do this.
Just do it. It's part of learning. you will find what works for you. It might take a while but you will find it if you keep with it.
And remember your viewers, even just the name. If they come back in to say hi and you remember them and reply with hey (-) I haven't seen you back in a while, how have you been, we've missed you. It means so much to them.
Be yourself, be stupid, be quirky, don't take yourself too seriously, make fun of your mistakes. Treat your viewers as friends, you're there to hang out and the more the merrier.
Keep a schedule, ye everyone says that it's so hard but humans are creatures of habit, you want to build a community based on consistency. But on the other hand do not force yourself too much. Take mental breaks, know when to stop or you will regret it and feel like you have not put your best self out there.
These are what I have learnt so far. I'm still a small streamer but I feel these helps not just with the stream but also with my mentality.

I started cause it looked fun, I like making others laugh and Im a curious person when it comes to games "Can I do this method to get over here" *Dies* ok maybe not"
I needed this advice though I turned off viewers and I do practice anyways cause I'm always talking about the game or thinking out loud. Numbers don't really matter I enjoy games as a whole if its just me so be it. I am having fun with the game im playing. I do test streams or talk about my goals and such cause I want everyone to know hey im trying to get better and to bring more things to the table for you to enjoy or watch. I love expressing the growth I'm doing and getting advice from others. It all comes down to the community you make, at the end of the day these viewers or people are joining your streams. They take time out of their day to enjoy YOU. They make the choice to join your community and invite others to it, its better to be humble then to be "ahh yes GIVE ME YOUR MONEY! ALL YOUR BASE BELONG TO US" type person.

How to grow on twitch. Stop listening to others methods, and be yourself. If you know you can do it, you can and you will figure it out all by yourself. If you want to listen to others, then go ahead and make a gamble on who's advice is solid or not. Just because someone has x amount of viewers on twitch does not mean it will work the same for you, using their method. Everyones method is catered to their style and personality. So just do you!
Example. I am thin and athletic..no fat issues. People ask me diet advice but I will never advise someone to follow my diet. I eat very fattening things to stay skinny...yeap...Over active metabolism. So someone with a different personality....I mean metabolism might get over the weight they wanted following mine. Never assume someone's method of success will work for you. Take all advice with a grain of salt.
If anyone says this is THE way..or THE method..etc...run away.

I was getting like 12 to 17 viewers per stream for a while and I was so excited I was getting momentum and I lowered my hours at work which I really don’t regret still. But now I get like two viewers for the last hour of my stream which is only two hours. It goes to show you how things can change but also goes to show you how the members of your community can make a difference. There was one viewer that was very engaging and she would engage me and she would engage the audience and everybody loved them. I think this video helped a lot too, and I like how realistic you are about these things. Thank you.

This was very, very helpful. Especially the tip about networking to make friends. I’m so scared of networking because I don’t want people to think I’m just using them, but at the same time there are so many creators who obviously have more followers/subscribers/whatever than me and I think they’re just really cool and I think would be an amazing friend. It’s a struggle mate, haha.

You mentioned to make a second twitch channel to test out your settings. I'm going to point out that here on RUclips you can test your stream from the same channel but make it private in the settings while testing and nobody else can see it. Allowing you to fix any technical issues you run into during testing.
Another thing that most new streamers don't know is that twitch will only let you stream at 720p and not 1080p making it harder to keep viewers as the quality won't look very good compared to those who are streaming at 1080p. On RUclips you get access to 1080p streaming right off the bat without needing to be a partner.
Another thing is that RUclips keeps your videos until you choose to delete them while Twitch only keeps them for 2 weeks when you're not partnered or affiliate.
In the end always check the streaming service you plan to use and see which one is the best so don't just default to Twitch because everyone uses it.

I plan on starting my stream again this summer, fresh start. I honestly plan on getting a full-time job because frankly I want to stream as a comfort streamer, and I love interacting and talking with people. I'm currently contemplating whether to just turn off donations. I feel like people feel pressured to give donations and support when theres an option. Honestly, my dream is to stream to an audience who can ask me questions and while I have gameplay in the back, I can give genuine advice and have deep conversations with chat.

Most of the time when i see famous streamers it's about luck. Some people get famous because they met someone in a game etc. Others actually try very hard on becoming famous by being very good at something but have less followers. That's why you should never doubt yourself and just stream untill you have a moment where something happens that makes you famous

"Just have fun" I just recently started streaming and having a good paying job I decided to approach it to meet new people and find new friends that enjoy the same kind of games as me. Averaging 5 viewers a stream isn't much but it's been a lot of fun so far and while I have a sub button I really don't even want anyone to push it I just like having people to hang with and talk to while i'm gaming.

Well, I'm glad I'm so far doing everything right. I'm soon to be on my third week of streaming and so far have 14 followers. What stresses me a bit is getting the 3 average viewers for affiliate (which I find a bit confusing too.) But I am reminding myself to just keep having fun and be entertaining even if nobody is watching. I do talk to myself a lot anyway, so LOL. I think my streams are getting successful slowly, and I understand it takes A LOT of patience and practice. I wanted to stream and make videos for so many years, and now I'm grateful that I can make some content and find myself through it. But yeah, I wish luck to other small streamers, and please remember to have fun and don't get overwhelmed!
