honestly I think everyone on earth should watch this video, no matter if theyre streamers or not. It really helps out to deal with social skill issues and the anxiety to come across blanks in conversations. Thx !!
I've been a cave girl pretty much my entire life, either being ashamed or afraid to talk. Now since I became a streamer, I can notice how things have started to change a bit for the better. Thank you for making this video! The tips and advices were very helpful and welcomed!:)
Exactly the same, I have social anxiety and can barely finish a conversation, and I struggle to film my RUclips videos, recently got into live streaming, I only did 4 streams so far and I’m already feeling the difference. Now after watching this video I will start applying these concepts and hopefully start even more conversations.
I’m getting better at this and have grown to 10 to 15 minutes of just chatting prior to any activity - without interaction! But I love these techniques and will incorporate the association game for sure.
I started to talk to myself on my birthday stream this saturday, I was playing a single player creature collector: Coromon, basically just reading the dialog and commenting on it, when something crazy happened I was laughing and making remarks, etc.. I was just talking about what happened or what I wanted to happen, things like that. It was cool to be honest, at most I had 2 viewers on my stream (probably family/friend) but I got through my first long stream (6h)!
Word association is golden advice. I would go the extra mile and try avoid familiar topics, maybe a word of the day to shake it up when you're getting good!
This video was really useful as i constantly see videos saying to talk more but wont go into examples on how to, simplifying it like this really helps me understand what approach i can go with!!! 😋
Thank you for this video!! As a streamer the one thing I've found stressful is keeping conversations and drawing viewers back into my streams. I'm near 3 years into this and still have a quite small viewership though I am doing my best to incorporate these tips into my streams in hopes that eventually Ill improve and grow my community :) Great video!!
I think i do have this "gift of the gab", since i have always talked about everything while playing games, mostly to my friends on discord/TS back in the days. I've never started with a just chatting segment before tho! Will definitely try, thanks for the tips! :)
I'm happy to say that I do the "topic association" thing CONSTANTLY. I naturally think of slightly related tangents and just continue blabbing on about the given topic. That being said, would you consider a streamer who is too chatty as a negative thing? I tend to talk A LOT. To the point where by the end of my streams I have a slight strain in my voice due to how much I talk 😅
I found your channel last year when I started streaming. Although I only do it as a hobby your tips are VERY real. Listen to this guy. Your stuff has helped me out a lot when I first started. Look forward to every video.
I usually just sit there and talk to myself for a good minute or two until my usual 2 or 3 people come by. It's defiantly a lot harder when there's no one in your chat, but I'm lucky enough to have those one or two people who jump in and talk to me. Great video as usual, hopefully I can catch the stream tomorrow!
Always a good subject, and a nice reminder for myself to try to do more than just narrate/joke about my gameplay! It's tricky to coax people into actually chatting. Some people just want to lurk, to begin with! I really seem to have the most success when I start rambling about food and then manage to provoke debate over pizza toppings or cake vs. pie, ahahah... it's a pretty universal subject though, eh?
I did this once (I think it was a previous chat with you in your twitch that gave me the hint) and ended up having an hour long chat about 'crap names for a T-Rex' with several people when I mentioned I had gone to the Manchester University Museum for a quick visit before it was closed for renovation...Basically, there is a T-Rex there that is cast from an original and someone had named it Stan after the guy who had paid for it to be excavated. It really does work, especially as one of my admittedly very few regular viewers was a mod for a twitch paleontologist. It is hard at first and I am by no means an expert at it (I am really shy about my speaking voice) but this storytime does help enormously when you hit on a subject that resonates and you get a few chatters yakking with you and you can just bounce off of their comments :D ~Sparhawke on Twitch (not streamed for a while for being busy) PS: my avatar here on RUclips is me in front of a Dinosaur cast at the Natural History Museum from 5 years ago, so people can see I actually have an interest in that stuff rather than just coming up with a topic I grabbed out of my rear end lol
Eventho ive streamed for already more than 1 year right now (I'm not a full time streamer), this tips still really helped me to think back about what im still lacking of.. Thanks dude!
Just discovered your channel and your tips are ABSOLUTELY life saving!! Definitely going to implement and practice this advice more mindfully and often! Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
From watching your streams, this week I decided to start each stream in Just Chatting. It hasn't been great LUL but I suspect it will get better with practice. I loved ALL the ideas in this video ty! Going to try more of these!
lowkey i feel like a lot of people already know how to do this while talking to other people but just fail to apply these to streaming. overall some really great ideas/points
Thank you for the reminder that I forgot to put my specs on this morning 🤣 You can see from the old clips where you're almost shrinking away, it's great to see the streamer glow-up
Great video Dan, I don't struggle with dead air but i do struggle with anything fun or interesting to talk about, which is still better but I'm getting there :)
this video was so helpful! I don't know about you but there's days where I feel like I can flow and chat it up and others where I want to keep the stream going but my mind just goes blank.
As somebody who's new to streaming and youtube within the last year. Talking to myself is the easy part. The hard part was trying to make the conversation about the chat while talking about myself.😅 Since I do normally stream either with 1-5 people, On a rare occasion i've had 15. That way, I'm not silent for a 30 seconds to a minute. Waiting for a response. I've gotten into the habit of starting a question with. I don't know about you guys, but my favorite thing... And then I talk about that favorite thing And hopefully they jump in instead of just asking them directly with theirs is.
I just discovered your channel today and I thank you so much for your streaming tips. I started streaming a month ago and talking to myself on Twitch has been my biggest hurdle so far. I always thought I was decent at making conversation until I started streaming, then I found out how bad I was at it and how difficult it is, but I think using some of the tips you've mentioned in this video could definitely help me step my game up! (No pun intended)
I’ve been talking to the tv while watching cable television shows and I’d always be asked by friends and family who am I talking to! Funny thing is they were more entertained by me talking at the tv as if I was one of the cast members than just having the tv play for them in the background. So I’m pretty sure talking to no one on a stream is nothin for me.
6:36 I feel attacked ahahaha....seriously though I do try to talk about game trivia (if i know a lot about the game) or my opinions on the game - effectively reviewing as i go and making jokes about what i see and taking the piss out of myself and the game. I have started to talk more about random other stuff but I've struggled to think of stuff while live though, but word association sounds so obvious yet it has never occurred to me. I will have to try to remember that next time.
Thinks you can talk to yourself about: -Talk about your day -Weekend plan -What you cook/ate today -Discussions you had with your friends -Unpopular opinions -Favorite games -Favorite Movies/Series -Funny childhood story -Awkward moments in your life -Moderate the game you're playing -Hobbys -A project you're working on (art project, crochet, etc.) -Tell fun facts about yourself If you have problems with talking to yourself, maybe try playing multi-player games with people you're comfortable with. Good luck
Well when I started streaming I couldn’t talk to myself like it got awkward so I ended up being silent for the whole stream until someone chatted, and I started commenting on everything I saw in my game, and it made me better to talk to myself
Love these, thank you im very new to streaming and i always thought i was ok at being social lol but this is a whole nother thing lol, but hoping my nerves will ease the more i do 😊
I always Talk to myself when I'm Streaming! Even if I have as little as 1-2 people (sometimes a little more), watching me! I try to be as entertaining and open as possible!
Imagine being extroverted with strong gift of gab (ty Irish heritage), you love playing video games... and you wanna jump into streaming. You start up and suddenly.. the gift is gone. If someone rolls in and sets me off rambling. I play alot of stuff with friends now so there is at lease nonsense banter, but some games are single player and I just sorta go quite. Im quiet chatty in many areas, i comment outloud when im reading a book, watching something, playing something.... sitting around in the quiet. Camera on *poof* its quite annoying lol
I’m going be talking to 0 viewers like it’s a thousand people and playing the game and be like “did you see that chat? “ or whatever happens in the game
I still struggle with this. I’ve tried playing different games but Its hard for me to narrate. I’ve tried more solo story games to some other online games but I never know what to talk about.
Im just started a twitch, and im going to use that footage for youtube stuff. One thing im struggling with is that my game is an fps, and when things get intense, i grow quiet cause im focusing on the game. I dont even notice ive gone quiet till ive been quiet for a bit. Any tricks to help with this?
Should I be trying it out and just streaming to get used to it, knowing it won't be perfect but getting comfortably or do I need to be at a specific standard first? Like I don't want my channel to be doomed from the start if it is just boring to begin with?
Good video but if a streamer goes into just chatting for like 10min without a face cam and only with a just chatting screen wouldn’t that just be kinda boring unless someone is planing to watch a stream in the background
Plenty of ways to do just chatting without a camera for sure! Theres plenty of design tools that you can use to fill the visual gap if you don't want to show your face:)
I hope LOTR truly is your favorite movie and you’re not just throwing that out there😂. Because it is absolutely(and this is an indisputable fact) that LOTR is the greatest trilogy ever period

My most used tag used to find me on twitch is the chatty tag, I don’t think you can talk too much tbh
I talk a mile a minute most days:) Not a bad thing as long as you make sure you give chat the appropriate attention too:)
