Back when I first started streaming, I would hang out in other small streamer's chats. I had NO idea that self-promo was rude, and so would just casually mention my streaming this or that or the other thing. The response I got was so positive, often with the streamer coming to follow me, that I got the impression self-promo in others' chats was a fine, good thing to do. (VTubers tend toward supporting one another pretty quickly, especially the smaller ones) The moment I found out this was NOT A GOOD THING AT ALL, I felt so freaking bad. I finally understood why I never got much of a response, or even outright ignored in bigger streamer's chats when I did it, and for a while the realization of just how rude I was being ate at me for a good few days. I really, REALLY wish I had seen a video mentioning this before I started streaming, though somehow I never did during my research period. I'm so glad you included it in this one!!
I feel you. that's why I rather do the "networking" bs live on other streamers without even telling them that I stream, unless asked. "Sry i gtg, i'll be back later or next time!" And stuff like that is more than enough. Being active in other communities really boosts my mood to, as I help everyone out
Hey, I just came across your videos recently and started applying some of the things. I rewatched my VODs, I turned off the viewer count (very hard for me), and looked up conversation starters. I was streaming and no one was in chat, pretty sure I had no one watching but I was having conversation starter questions with myself lol and all of a sudden I got 2 people following me, and out of no where they were talking in my chat. I know it’s 2 followers, but the fact that 2 random people stopped by and then chatted with me while I was streaming was a really cool feeling. Anyways, thanks for the help!
Thanks for these videos, im a new streamer from Panama (which is very difficult since gaming is not very serious down here) and I've learn a lot since i subscribe, keep up the good work!
The first thing I did after watching your video was visited the Commander Root Follow Bot Tool in order to take preventative steps for my next stream. I didn't actually have any bot accounts following me, but I found out you can use the Blocklist Manager to block all known bot accounts. Thank you so much for sharing your story in regards to the follow bots and this invaluable resource. And thank you for the helpful and fantastic content!
For me was, when I firstly stream PES21 leagues, which only was fun for 5 people, and that people don`t even follow me or support me. Them my mistake was targeting people in Balkans, I wasted a year on those two mistakes, now that I realize that I am growing slowly but I have a good community. Also you advices helps a lot :)
On the last point-there's a lot of stigma on people who pop in with a 'hi how are you' in most social medias, lots of creators don't like small talk, and won't respond to you actually if you approach them like this. So it might be better to be respectful-but still include what you're messaging them about in your first message.
idk how relevant this is but it semi has to do with the promo thing in another streamers chat. normally what i would do is just go into someones stream that I'm following enough times and by me just constantly returning and interacting with the people in chat, i'll notice at some point that a couple people from that chat would end up following me. on occasion i would mention that i have to get ready for my stream or something along those lines but i would only say something about it once and that'll be it. doing that sometimes works to, just bt popping in and interacting with the chat and sometimes the streamer. funnily enough, some of them have become actual friends too. sorry if the start of this was worded weird lol
I recently became a Twitch Affiliate and I've been multi-streaming to RUclips and Twitch. I have to reread Twitch's TOS as I did miss that rule. Watching this video just saved me a headache in the future!!
I loved the video!!!! The only thing I will disagree is about the Stream Deck. I bought for my stream, I didn't needed, but when I started using it for personal stuff like Adobe Suite and some games, it's really helpful
Hey xTwoShoes! How's everything going? Just caught your video on the 10 biggest mistakes streamers can make on Twitch from 2021, and it was incredibly insightful! As someone who's relatively new to the Twitch scene-streaming for just over two months now, mainly focusing on horror games-I found your points really valuable. I was wondering, though, since it's been a couple of years since the video was released, do you think all those points still hold true today? Have there been any new trends or mistakes that have emerged since then that aspiring streamers like myself should be aware of? Your content is always top-notch, and I appreciate the effort you put into providing such helpful tips for streamers like me. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
I was always good at not mentioning my stream in other pples chats but I'm pretty broke and I would use my own emotes in other pples chats. Eventhough those emotes were not like emotes of my face just ones I bought off etsy and my friend who is no longer my friend anymore came down hard on me that that I was self-promoting with my emotes. I didn't even know that was a thing.
Thanks for the tips, super helpful. I'm brand new to streaming on twitch and hit affiliate within a couple weeks! However I struggle with one thing - I have a hard time ending the stream in a "casual" way and was wondering if you have any advice on that. When the time comes to end a stream, I'm not sure if it should be a quick 'Thanks everyone, k bye' or take some time to have a longer, 'softer' ending, or ending with a raid? Example: Should I plan a 3 hour stream and stick to that 3 hours on the dot, therefore incorporating an ending within that 3 hours? Or should I allow 'spill over' time for the outro, etc.? Any chance you could talk about a proper, consistent way to end a stream. Thanks!
Thanks! I typically like to wind down the stream for a few mins and jump back into just chatting. Ill thank the viewers for the day and then head to an ending screen whilst loading up a raid:) Experiment with whatever feels most natural to you:)
I haven't raided you in weeks my g, I'm soo sorry but I've been on a 3 weeks break cause it was needed in my life but I'll be back with the weekly raid soon! Haha, all jokes and heyy, love your content as always!
The clip highlight/twitch plug followed immediately by the section talking about not self promoting made me laugh and I don't know why lol just perfect timing honestly
i was watching a buddies stream the other day and someone popped in and was like "hey sorry i cant catch the stream! i gotta go stream myself" i instantly replied with "oof nice self promo bro"
An awesome video as per usual, Dan 😆👍👍 as ever, I appreciate you for taking the time to create this awesome content as well as offering impartial advice alongside actionable tips and tricks. Plus, on top of all of that, I appreciate you for taking the time to highlight useful programs/resources that are available for streamers to utilise if in the event that follow botting occurs. ☺👌 Cheers to you, my man! 🍻
Personally my stance on this hasn't changed. I think it makes sense for someone like Ninja who has exisiting audience across all those platforms but may not make the most sense for a brand new streamer starting out. Just my two cents though:)
For the restreaming analogy I don't quite agree with it. I mean it is now easier to talk on multi platforms especially with obs custom dock chat windows. Of course this is speaking from a new streamer's perspective. This would be a bad idea for any streamer with more than 1000 fans. lol
Perhaps, but it still isnt a good long term solution:) I would always say sticking your focus to one platform is much more beneficial but thats just my opinion:)
Awesome tips brother I totally agree about the streaming on one platform I definitely looked into this before I put my two snake shoes in lol! 😂💯🤘🏼❤️ much love my dude!!
Gotta disagree on restreaming. as a beginner you can experiment where you can get the most engagement on what kinda games etc. so streaming on two platform is good just for starters. and later you can choose to settle on just one
Hey man, I have a suspicion I'm being view botted & was follow botted a while ago. I notice I havent had much griwth since. Can you help me figure that out? I don't know how that affects streamers in the long run.
I wasted three months in a "streamer community" discord that was really just lurk for lurk, people taking attendance, etc. Got away when I realized it was like an MLM and all the real support (and *money*) went straight to the top. Please don't do it. If you need the help of a community or something to hit affiliate, it won't matter, you literally won't be making any money anyway. Just do you.
Hard disagree on restreaming out of the box, yes it will be unmanageable, but there are plenty of tools to assist in unifying the experience. but I will agree that you need an end goal or a funnel you want to direct those viewers towards. Discord is a good one, or maybe you still have a main preferred platform that is fine too just got to find a good not very annoying way to make that known to your viewers.
Hey! Hope you are doing well☺️ I been watching your content on yt a lot and it have helped me growing and such, I think I am on the right track. But I have a problem, you see my irl friends have this friend wish is basicly bullying me, he wrote dumb things in my chat few months ago so I banned him from my channel. The catch is my other friends support me and some even sub to me, but the keep asking me to unban the bully guy and also gives an akward wibe to my chat and makes me uncomfortable. I honestly do not know how to deal with it since I dont wanna be mean to my friends (especially since some of them sub to me) and on the other side I dont want them to make me uncomfortable... Sorry if I am disturbing, thought maybe you had any advice on how to deal with the problem. Best regards👾
Yo! Im sorry that happened to you! I can relate a lot. Way I see it is, your true friends will support you 100%. Anyone who doesnt is not a true friend is most likely jealous that you had the courage to put yourself out there. Your twitch channel is yours to do what you want with and don't let anyone else stop you from having fun on it!

It kind of all depends on the context and community:) But thank you!
The discord support communities is so accurate. I don't want a bunch of lurkers. I want active chatters.

3:11 Time to rethink after Ninja's restreaming efforts?

You will receive potentially 100’s to 1000’s of follows in a matter of minutes. It’s very easy to spot when it happens!
