I always learn something from watching what you created that I totally missed while we were there.
Hey thanks man that was a blast and more to come of course! I am curious what did you notice that you hadn't before?
@@MichaelShainblum All of those cool broll clips you make, the focus shift of the caldera, the car driving through the sunset. I need to do more of that shit.
@@fototripper 100% Agree...I am impressed with the b-roll
Gavin is corrupting another young mind. 🤣😂😊
This locations been on the list since I first saw your original shot of the tree. Amazing work as ever love the cinematic vibes
Hey thanks so much man, glad you enjoyed it! :)
For those of us that spend countless hours doing this, but don't have the skill or patience to record videos about it. We salute you
I love these vlogs with some of my favorites. Gavin always makes me laugh and your only enhanced things. Beautiful shots to go along with the fun. I look forward to following your exploits.
So fun! You two are absolutely hilarious, but great teachers as well. Nice combo! I can't wait to see more of you sharing your expertise and entertaining the heck out of all of us. LOL
Excellent vlog and images. The driving sequence was a serious 70s' flashback.
I've watched this video prob. 1/2 dozen times now, and it's time to take the trip to see it for myself. Thanks for the content as always. Love your work
Great opening sequence
Always enjoy Gavin!
Those clips are 3:49! Incredible Michael, never seen it applied in that way!
Thanks James!
Great stuff, nice bit of humour too with Gavin..
Hillarious guys! Really cool to see that photography is also a lot about having tons of fun. Really enjoyed this one :-) Entertaining, educational, epic and awesome!
Never seen crater lake at night before not to mention the Milky Way!!!!😍 love it!!!!
A very cool effect when you were driving. 'Twas like tripping.
You got TWO galaxies in that large pano, Andromeda is coming through nicely in the lower left. Nicely done.
Awesome pano! Great video!
Great video, images were amazing, the shot with the tree was so perfect, felt so well balanced. I'm also a fototripper fan so I enjoyed that immensely.
That driving sequence....wow.
Thumbs up for you, Michael. You presented the information in an understandable and pleasing manner, as usual.
Thanks so much Mac!
Michael, that video was top notch. And the photography as well ! Keep on the good work.
Another great vlog! Can't wait for the tutorial to come out!
Thanks so much Joel!
30 shot pano! That’s awesome! Down to get hands on the training to get more on how you shoot/edit the images! Great video! Keep them coming! :)
Excellent stuff Michael, I might even try a bit of night photography........one day!
Adam Gibbs ...or ‘one night’ maybe?!?
We'll give you a special discount on the course Uncle ;)
So many exposures ! Definitely worth it. Sublime images. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks! :D
Its breathtaking😍🌌
Definitely I am learning a lot more from your video shain. And this video helps me to gain more knowledge
thanks man, I am really glad to hear that.
Well worth the wait 🙂
Fantastic stuff man and awesome tips 😀👍✌
It was beautiful 😍 can't wait for the tutorials.
Thanks so much Prasad, we are super excited about them!
Been following you for a while. The start of this video really is the pure truth of "hunting" the milkyway. I finally was able to take my first photos of the milkyway this past weekend during a trip to San Diego. Some of my friends agreed to come out to the Anza Borrego desert for a little while to see if we could get away from the clouds a little bit. It was truly unreal. None of had ever seen the milkyway with our naked eye. In Jersey I'm surrounded by so many lights I have to plan the perfect night, hoping for no clouds, or fog, or anything lol. It really was so rewarding to finally see it show up on the back of my camera after over a year of trying at home
Oh damn, sounds like an awesome night out stargazing, its amazing in the Anza Borrego! One of my favorite places to go, but I haven't been out there since 2016 or 17. Hey thanks so much for following my work and sticking around! :)
This looks like a fantastic collaboration for both of you.
Your pano is spectacular; too bad the MW Core season is closing in on us.
However, there is still lots to shoot in the night's sky.
Looking forward to the tutorial, I'm in!
MSB ... amazing stuff as always
U should keep doing these vlogs, just gives a total different perspective to your work when we actually hear from you 👌👌👌
Toldja Mike ;)
Thanks so much, many more to come!
great video, and amazing shots.
Trippy video then Gaven appeared. Bad trip dude. Yes the car assist lighting image is really nice
hahaha great shot Mike and good fun with Gavin lookin forward to that tutorial
It was a blast, more to come! :)
Great work!
Brilliant vlog love the results 😁📷
Amazing location shain 😍😍 😍
Thanks!
Absolutely amazing! Beautifully made video
Hey thanks!
Awesome Michael 👌🏻 Really striking image of the Milky Way.
Thanks so much!
I live in Oregon, one of these days I am going to run into you guys with all the photos I take around this state. Good vid. I been following Gavin for a lil while now. New to you. Good work.
Masterclass
You are an inspiration! That car timelapse was brilliantly beautiful!
Thanks Phillip, really glad you enjoyed those shots, my computer almost died trying to render them.
Time lapse effects for the drive up were really class Michael
Hey thanks so much, that was a super fun segment to make!
Michael....you are a genius.
Thank you so much Max!
Great video and beautiful shots Michael.
thanks Andrew!
Awesome
Great videos between you and Gavin. The driving sequence blew me away. I would love to know how you accomplished it. I'm looking forward to the video tutorial from you two.
Hey thanks so much! I did some stacking and blending in aftereffects. We are super excited for the tutorial! :)
Your Work Moves me Great Job XO
Hahaha. I came here to ask about that time lapse-looking highway driving sequence and I see that about ten other people have beat me to it. Whoever suggested that you do a tutorial on the technique had a good idea. I'll bet it would do well for you. Nice vid!
Stunning work! Loved the video.
Thanks Laura!
love your vlogs! Thank you
Thanks so much!
4:57 you can see the internal struggle within Gavin, trying so hard not to say "circling the rim" and laughing.
Gavin is the life of every boring landscape video 😂😍👍🏻
ah, come on I am not too boring am I? Hahaha either way I am working on it! I promise to be more entertaining.
Saw both of your video of the same day. I feel your video is more about astrophotography, and Gavin's video is about you! :D
Just an FYI, I heard you guys comment about Wizard Island within the lake.
It is a volcano too. Mount Mazama was the volcano that collapsed into Crater Lake and Wizard Island is a younger volcano, a cinder cone.
Oh that is awesome! Inception Volcanos! :D
Oooooh thanks for the info Steve.
Dope stuff Michael!
Thanks!
Thank you for a great video
Hey thanks for watching!
My mountain!!! Would’ve killed to shoot with u bro! Loved this video and this vlog, keep it up!
This shi bussin'. Stunning shots man, I'm craving some milky way now and I ain't talking about the candy!
@3:49 to 4:16 Loved this effect.
Thank you Scott! :)
Choosing Hammock for music? You have a very good taste, sir! And the content is awesome too!
Hammock is killer, I have used their music for a few vlogs! Thanks so much!
How you two goofballs create such beauty befuddles me!
The driving scene is awesome and reminded me of the chemical brothers music video that Michel Gondry directed back in 2000 or so. It's dope and you should peep it. Entertaining and informative per usual. Thanks for all that you do.
Thanks so much, that is actually one of my favorite music videos!
Really like the Milky Way edit and and the colors. Would be great to see a tutorial on RUclips. Best regards
Hey thanks! :) That will be included into our big Milky Way photography course.
Wow Michael you look very nice and beautiful amazing photographing well done 😊😊❤️❤️👍👍
Thank you!
You're welcome Michael 😊😊❤️❤️👍👍
Damn the intro so true
I do hv 16-35 g master and I worked out that for me the sharpest point on astro is 8m on focusing ring.
很有意思的拍摄
Great content, love your work, it is an inspiration. I am thinking of buying the Nikon 14-24 or 16-35 primarily for shooting the milky way when I get a chance which isn't often here in Springfield, Il as there is no where fun to really go shoot. I love the idea the 14-24 has a lower aperture. I have a Nikon D810 and Z6. Do you think I can get good Milky way shots with the 16-35 or do I really need to grab the 14-24 because of the lower aperture. I would only buy the 16-35 because of price. I had considered the Tamron 15-30 and a Rokinon lens the 14mm F2.4 and even the new Rokinon 14mm Z mount lens. I had even looked at the Tokina 16-28 but got worried about chromatic aberrations with that lens. The more I look the more confused I get and unfortunately I just cant go try them. Do you have any guidance, it would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance, Jerry
sick
Michael, I recently discovered your channel and have become a fan. These Milky Way photos are great! I went to take pictures of the Milky Way last night at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse, but came back thoroughly disappointed. Too foggy and the lighthouse kept flashing the light. Couldn’t focus the camera and didn’t see the sky at all! Any suggestions for a better spot in the Bay Area to shoot the Milky Way? Thanks!
Interesting that we, planet earth reside in the milky way and we have a chance to see our galactic home. Beautiful MW pano. Thanks for sharing.
Its pretty damn cool to think about. Thanks Dashan, glad you enjoyed the image!
Great stuff Michael!! While taking the timelapse at 3:00...did you put the d850 in live view and then triggered the internal intervalometer ? Asking just to understand aperture flicker perspective
One of the best video of the MW I seen on the Internet - truly professional. I was wondering, I live in the midwest (DesMoine, Iowa), what are the best months to shoot the full MW, Northern Hem. ; Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall ? Thanks so much.
Thanks so much! My favorite months are June through August for the core traveling through the sky all night. But you can see the core in April early in the morning, maybe even March and then in September right after sunset. Best thing to do is grab an app called Photo Pills or Skywalk and you can plan out the best times for what you are looking for.
I've been using PhotoPills for about a year, and once you've get used to it; it is invaluable. I hardly ever plan a night sky shoot with out using it.
Skywalk too, excellent for visualizing what the night sky will look like. When I'm at a site I think would be a good location for Astro; I open the Skywalk app on my phone, set the date/time for when the MW is visible and hold the phone up over the composition and it shows you how the MW will appear over your landscape.
@@MichaelShainblum Thanks so much Michael. Love your videos. Like to see more about foreground compositions. J
Glad you were able to go back to Crater Lake. Was this in the summer months?
Hey Kelly, yeah this was back in August.
New to your channel, only thing I'm sorry about is not finding you much earlier than this :)
Hey thanks so much for joining! :)
I havent seen this amazing effect, when you driving your car. Looks epic! How does it called?
Hey there, I guess you could call it time blending or time stacking? Or at least thats what I would call it, thanks so much!
@@MichaelShainblum Wow that is incredible! I honestly haven't seen anything like this before. Really awesome!
Michael Shainblum would love to see a how to video on this effect - I assume it’s the same effect as the bird trails. Awesome!
its gonna be great brotha i learned from the best (you)
Hey thanks man! :)
@@MichaelShainblum we have to go back to do some astro next season
Loved the Vid! funny and stunning photos are the way to go. well done! BTW Gavin and you kinda look like big brother small brother... (hope no one offended :-) )
I am deeply offended!
hahaha thanks Arie!
Hi Michael, awesome vlog! what do you mean by 20 exposures and 2 rows?
Basically meaning I took these images at slight different degree angles so when I stitched all the images together in post, I could get that almost 180 degree field of view for the milky way. Thanks so much!
Gavin has a nice accent !
Very nice Michael! Next thing you know though, you’ll be incorporating scatological references, flatulence, and perhaps some sheep into your videos. It’s the Hardcastle Effect.
Looking forward to more astro education.
Have.... you been snooping on the next episode?
Damn! Didn’t mean to kill the suspense. My bad!
3.48 - It was at this point . . . the LSD kicked in!
🥰
A 30 shot pano? I'd be so lost in all the post processing.... LOL
As soon as Gavin was mentioned i just knew he had to be British.
Will you guys cover this multirow panorama in your tutorial?... by the way awesome shots
We're still finalizing the course materials Rakesh. If it ends up on the course we'll be sure to list it in the course description when it goes live.
fototripper thanks Gavin
Yeah we are still working that out, Panoramas may become a different tutorial since there is so much extra work involved in shooting and processing. Thanks so much!
What exact location is that at? I've been trying to find this exact tree on gmaps and streetview at merriam point, but I can't seem to find it. Do you have the coordinates per chance? Or is the tree just not there anymore?
Some people like to use Microsoft ICE for stiching panoramas
ICE does a great job as well.
where exactly is that location of the tree?
Great video. My question is, how pristine is his legs.
Hi Mike, what blogging camera did you used on this video?
I used mostly the Nikon D850 for the day stuff and the A7S at night.
Michael Shainblum wow that a7s really nice in lowlights 😍
can you explain how you can take 30 photos at 25 secs and the stars stay in the same position?
The stars move slightly, but not enough to make a difference when stitching the panorama.
You said you did three rows, how do you measure that?
So what I like to do is use a ball head and level my tripod. Then I move just the bottom horizontal knob when I am taking photos, overlapping about 1/3rd each time, then I did the same process for the other two rows. Basically one facing down near the ground, one level and one facing pretty far into the sky.
@@MichaelShainblum Ahh I see then you just stack them correctly on PS?
Why does auto focus need to be off?
The auto focus will stutter and potential ruin the timelapse
Your photos put me to shame Mike :(
