Welcome to the Imperium of Mankind, where a sister loses her faith, finds it again and finally dies in the line of duty. A Salamander fights against all odds to achieve victory and the Imperial Guard ends up killing the sole survivor because it's their mission. This is the most dystopian scenario I've ever seen in the WH40K universe.

No it’s just bad writing, if everything in the universe is dark and edgy it literally looses all its value that’s why more people don’t care about your fandom like we get it shit is bad in this universe but the fact that I know from the beginning any child in a story is gonna die I lose all my interest in the characters

@@drewprosser8861That’s a bad take in my opinion, Clearly everything is not “dark and edgy” considering the space marine put his mission on the sideline to defend the innocents and we also witnessed the Sister of battle have an internal struggle to change her viewpoint but it was cut short, if you don’t like this genre then don’t be involved with it, I could easily argue that if those innocents survived and made it off world it would just be following the same old cliche boring unrealistic trope of all fiction today.

@@dimieneyitemi1721I don't fully agree, but they got a point. There can still be personal victories even in great disasters. Sar'kan managing to save the survivors, and them not just dying the second he heads off wouldn't change anything about the general situation. Billions have died and a whole world became a battlefield, but there is still a small chance for life to go on, and for the Human spirit to persevere. But if every effort and heroic deed, no matter how monumental can't even save one family, it gets harder to be invested.
Also, a handful of people surviving a cataclysmic event is not really a cliche, it's honestly realistic. There are people who survived both world wars, the holocaust, hiroshima and nagasaki (one person was even present during BOTH explosions) and every other atrocity you can think of. It's only a trope, if ONLY our protagonists are able to stand against whatever the problem is. But the whole point of these civilians was, that they are nobodies, they wouldn't have survived because of plot armor, they'd be lucky statistical anomalies.
Good to see there is still organized resistance on the planet.

While I enjoy the horror aspects of 40k and the grim darkness of it all. I still think giving people hope in terms of defiance of odds or pure survival would add a lot to the story. Her being the only survivor would still give the same effect. And if there is a second season I hope the cut to black meant the guardsmen missed so we could see a bit of the evacuation or the last pockets of resistance
People make fun of 40k for being over the top, but stuff like this happen. Even right now. Probably with your tax money.

There’s always a chance the guardsman could have intentionally fired the wrong way. I like that the ending was sort of left to interpretation.

Evidence shows he was: 1 - He was just walking casually like a mind dead, no reaction to guardsmen talking to him approaching him. The kid already acted way to wierd for what we see of him in the previous scenes. 2 - he babled, not incohesive words but what sakan told him, we see other mind dead speak some cohesive words too, as if those were the most engraved memories. 3 - CODA hollow, 2 mind dead already said word "hollow" 4 - The kid is alone, he said "My family... I..." first words, then comes sakans order what to say, suggesting the kid likely killed the family and that thaught was more prevalent. "On her Blindness" may mean something but not sure, It may mean the soldier woman to "see no evil" in following a horrible order, it may also refer to the commander woman on the comms, as she's blind to see what's happening, so this may refer to the opposite, she doesn's see the kid is actually sane.

That is true, but grimdark typically means in Warhammer that it doesn't end well. The Salamanders and Tau are often the brighter aspects of the universe, but the problem is that there are too few in number for it to feel as though they matter in the grand scheme of the universe. Whether you're labeled a heretic, killed by a xenos or daemon, or warped by the warp itself or the forces of chaos, there's not really any other way to survive in this universe. The regular populace doesn't even see Space Marines that often, guardsman are added to the army and die by the millions everyday, and most of the Space Marine Chapters aren't the Salamanders, unfortunately 😔

@StevenNguyen-cj4gb Yeah, I never understood that phrase because technically murder is also unaliving somebody. Personally, I'd more times than not say suicide than dodge it because that's what it is. Just like Germany's power in the 40s is nazis, rape isn't grape, so on so forth
