Honestly, as a musician this story is pretty inspiring. This guy quickly changed career paths in a city with no friends, had a hugely embarrassing first step, then went to on sell a boatload of a records with a militia's worth of genuine fans, all while maintaining whole other bodies of work.
Good job, Andrew.
does he for real still have fans from that party song released 20 years ago?
Bill & Bill`s Gentlemans Club yeah, I'm one of em
@@Turk_2023 it's bigger than that
Who is he?
@@Turk_2023 you'd be surprised.
This is so real its borderline a TED talk
his anxiety kinda makes his set even better cuz you can relate to him so much lmao
This guy looks like he's moonlighting as a Winterfell guard
Mabey shes born with it maybe its winterfell
Lol!!!!!
I was playing skyrim while I was listening to this!!
This comment hasn't gotten the love it deserves, brilliantly funny.
I fucking love this. Watching a guy try to do stand-up, but he's actually a talented performer so he knows how to hold a crowed despite not "talking" for a living... it's really neat to watch. I even laughed at stuff, and was really gripped into this story. Really fun.
This is my favorite of this series. Andrew was so charming, warm, poignant, and funny. I know it must be nerve-wracking but he was a lot better than 90 percent of the comedians who do this. He has such a loving, positive presence which is what the world needs a lot more of.
This felt sincere and intimate. Thanks w.k.
He’s actually a really good story teller. He put a lot of heart into that.
He seems like such a nice guy I'd love to meet him
He's the best. I met him at a USO function. Genuinely one of the nicest, most down to earth people you could ever meet. He's one of those people that you just get this feeling that he is completely stoked to be here (wherever here is) and that you have every single bit of his attention. He really is a great guy.
I met him at SDCC at a hotel lobby. He's one of the nicest people I've ever met. The next day on the convention floor, he was walking by and called my name just to high five me.
He’s super nice met him on New Years during his concert
I met him outside the Electric Factory (a medium-sized venue in Philadelphia) almost 20 years ago. He opened for whoever it was i went to see. Sadly, I missed his bands' set. Anyway, he came out and I was standing there holding like 4 bottles of water. He asked me for one and when I gave it to him, he was super appreciative and grateful. It took a second for me to realize who he was. Then I was like, "wow, Andrew w.k. is profusely thanking me for a bottle of water." We talked for like 40 minutes and afterward we shook hands and he pulled me in for the quick hand-shake-man-hug. But, yeah, he was so nice and friendly. And, he really gives you his attention. I've met lots of bands and band members (mostly metal bands). But, Andrew was one of the most down to earth, polite and sincere guys I've ever had the pleasure to meet.
10 out of 10, would meet again.
SO THERE ARE OTHER MEN THAT ARE JUST AS EMOTIONAL AS I AM??!! Thank you for sharing your story, dude. I feel much better knowing i'm not the only one who experiences things so emotionally.
This dude is gentle giant
I get anxiety just listening to this.
why ? O_x
Have you ever been on stage and it has gone terribly wrong?
I know his name from a metal song that was really popular 16 years ago. He broke his own nose for the album cover and not originally a comedian. Give him some credit; stand-up is TOUGH.
Yeah, I wasn't shitting on the guy either. I'm sympathetic to the story precisely because I know how it feels to bomb on stage.
Nyars Channel I was just thinking same thing - this is just horrible- like it's happening to me
I have to do a school talent show and I decided to do stand up having never done stand up in my life, and I feel like this is the exact video I needed to see
How did you do?
I did stand up in grade 6 for the school talent show
Luke Perry how did it go?
Did you do it?
Tell us how it went
Andrew WK is like the complimentary Spy vs Spy to Nathan Explosion
Yous hits its nails on these heads
Wow so true! That cartoon needs to happen!
Well that is the most perfect comparison of anything ive.heard I think
BRILLIANT!
He really does seem like a nice, interesting guy, he makes you laugh like one of your best childhood friends did, like he's having a conversation with you instead of doing an "act". His arms are huge, how is he not crushing the mike? He'd be the friend who looks like he would protect you but he's probably to nice to fight.
Destroy build destroy
MickBärnhardt i was gonna say that
Jackson Bland lmao
I just spit out my drink lmao
Holy shit you’re right
The only good live action show Cartoon Network ever produce.
I personally love this series because it's about story telling and not just laughs. Being able to tell stories is a great life skill, not just for laughs or entertainment.
Not really a skill just a mindset.
@@orange70383 yeah OK but public speaking is still a skill to me and not just a mindset. Although mindsets help. And attitude?
daym...hes fine. need a gentle beast like this in my life
Dude is huge
It's even more shocking in person how massive he actually is.
His dad is also very tall; he was my property law professor (very famous professor, wrote the main casebook on property law that's basically ubiquitous).
6'3" and started working out. Yeah, he has put on some muscle.
I wanna fight him. An exhibition for sport, not out of malice. He looks like he hits hard.
Boomhauer 😂😂😂
this series is supposed to be interesting and meaningful not just "ha ha ha haha ha ha" isn't it? like we get that he isn't a top ten standup as far as making you belly laugh. he isn't a standup. he's a musician telling a story. it's a show with stories. lighten up.
lauris villi Exactly...it was tempered more like a good Moth story (check out Moth podcast if you don't know what that means).
lauris villi cool
"Comedy central" its funny stories dumbass.
It's like a cross of stand up and slam poetry and storytelling
laurbær villi dude wtf is wrong with you? Not only did the viewers listen up but they fully knew the story he was telling. Stop trying to show off because you think you can relate to him better
Andre WK is an international treasure.
Just the way he tells the story fits its perfectly, fuckin hilarious man
He is the absolute most interesting and nicest person I have worked with, out of the 200+.
I-Cee Interviews yeah right, I would like evidence before I eat my words
Jamie Jenkins dude, what words, nobody knows or cares much what you have to say about this guy as the most unknown gatekeeper ever, it's not our job to provide you evidnence because you wanna scough at a sincere complement for someone you don't even know.
John Kaphery dude... look at his channel he clearly has the interview vid, you took a innocent joke to the next fucking level. R/whoooosh
Jamie Jenkins almost like tone doesn't convey over the internet. Weird, huh?
Mikk Wheeler that’s strange considering I sense your sarcasm
Wow! I'm glad to see him! 😁
I remember YEARS ago MTV followed him around an HBCU, and one of the sistas braided his hair and he showed them how to "party like a rocker". 😂 He seemed so nice, and I never forgot about that show. ✌🏾
He sounds Canadian as fuck
hes from michigan...so close enough
Michigan is just southern Canada
You don't catch me sayin "ay"
DrTittieSprinkles the fack are yoo talking boot ehh
He sounds like a Yooper.
"Existential shattering of a human's soul." Hilarious.
he just proved something here.....you don't need to swear a lot to make something funny...WISDOM
Raoul Fleckman ya you have a point.. though
Wanna hop off that high horse? It's much more fun down here in the gutter.
yeah but if your story isn't that funny or youre really nervous it might get a shock value laugh which could help you mentally to slow down the thought process and control the audience
My god this was dry AF. Nice guy, sure. Funny? No, man, just... No.
It's not WISDOM, merely an observation. When you tell me it's wisdom, you're trying to tell me how to think. When you tell me how to think, it pisses me off. When I'm pissed, I often use foul language. Just not here. Besides, it's not really funny, just amusing.
Why'd they take this off On-Demand? Comedy Central your slacking this is the best show you guys have.
CC always surprises me with weird decisions
because its standup. Dont u know cc doesnt do standup
Edwin Rodriguez gg
you're
Uhh South Park??
I don't think he realizes how much of an inspiration he is. 💙
I didn't realize how stacked this dude was.
Yeah, me too. XD
Such an inspiring story told thru a "failed" moment in life... I would agree with you, it's not what we've chased and succeeded at, but more it is what did we fail at, and where can we find the real nugget of truth... I've always learned more thru what I thought was my failure initially, only to find out later in life that it propelled me...
dude is such a positive guy. I've always liked him, never knew he did stand up. was pretty good!
What an incredible dude. Hell of a story, too. I saw him back in like 2014 or 15 and the crowd for his set was more intense than The Acacia Strain's was that day. Truly a legend.
So genuine and cute
Damn, good for him for going up there with all those nerves. Great crowd too, really helped him out.
Andrew W.K does stand up? cool. When it's time to laugh we will always laugh hard.
Jason just as he taught us to party, he teaches us to laugh
I just watched the video. Let me know when it's time to laugh
@@schrockstar I'm laughing at you now, you can laugh along with me if you want..
this is so awesome, made me want to cry. over came a shit situation, and dealing with stage fright to tell the story. think this could be very therapeutic to those with public speaking or performance fears. Even if it goes bad, life goes on and long run, it's not a big deal.
Wha? the fuck was Ari on... he was so fucked up on something while announcing Andrew W.K. LOL
You can tell he was just faded.
He must've done some of Joey Diaz's gummibears :-D
Can't fuck around with the gummy bears.
Them Stars of Death hahaha
He's tight with Joe Rogan, so probably THC suckers.
He's so adorable
Its amazing how he could convey his anxiety during anxiety
Andrew W.K. is one of my favorite celebrities. He is not really in the public eye a lot so I'll take what I can get.
He's very endearing. Someone you rootin for clearly...
I met him a few years ago at my college. A group invited him to teach a class about partying for an hour, even got “about the class” papers which he signed later on. Talked to him for a few minutes, cool guy.
I love how traumatized the dude in the blue checkered shirt was the whole time lmfao
The guy in the first row, left to Andrew is so weird. Never laughs, doesn't blink (looks like he's about to sleep, or on drugs). He freaks me out.
He was partying hard
Maybe he just likes GOOD comedy.
Yeah, was thinking the same thing. Dude has such a clean cut creep/controlling vibe. I hate judging a book by its cover, but...
@@calviincalifornia4048 Nah, but you can have a punch in the face creepo
@@penjamin5037 nah
First routine I've ever seen of him, really good, enjoyed it a lot. He's sensitive, funny, introspective and sound (...also can we talk about his arms...)
Andrew WK is literally the best.
Andrew WK? I've only been watching the series for a month but this is dope
I think that is kind of rare that a band would have an audition at a club for an audience. The closest I came, is I auditioned for a band, and the next night we played in a club.
This guy looks like such a Chad. Long slicked back hair, buff, strong facial features.. and yet he's telling a story about a paralyzingly terrifying moment of stage freight, miscommunication, and general shyness while speaking about it in the same manner. There's something incredibly enduring about this. I honestly think this was a great story to tell and I'm proud he got himself through it. I just hope he's not too hard on himself.
He looks like the lead singer of a cover band who performs songs from Danzig but also moonlights as a standup comedian. Pretty cool story though.
00majid00 Andrew W.K. covering Danzig is something I never knew I needed until now
No
00majid00 you need to check out his work, dudes a big deal.
Party party party we like to pArty
your confusion is understandable, see, his WWF name is Danzig ...
This guy always made my day
This was so awesome! See a guy, who you you think is the party main focus, telling such a nice and warm story about introversion in a great and funny way, thanks Andrew WK for exist in our lifes!
Anyone who has depression can recognize another person's depression. At least Andrew has made a name for himself unlike most. Rock on Andrew W.K.
Jason Coleman damn
That moment where he describes sitting at the bar drinking a sprite and the host calling the 'Young Man' to the stage, and him slowly realizing he was referring to him. Something about that moment that I totally relate to. Especially when he was like, "I could've ignored it and just let the guy keep shouting and continue on with the show, but I didn't."
Isn't this the guy that used to have a show on Cartoon Network?
Yeah it was called Destroy Build Destroy
I remember seeing him perform in the early 00s and think, “I’m not into this,” but after seeing him speak, I like him! I can appreciate a man who gets in his head
i loved everything about this wow
He was touring in Russia with Marky Ramone with Ramones material in 2013. Saint Petersburg. Best gig in my life! He's a beast
2002, Diamond Ballroom, Oklahoma City, AFTER I received the false alarm to Go to Iraq, but six months BEFORE the official call to go. I saw this man open for Hoobastank, and did not stick around to see them play, as he was who I came to see. He had a broken leg. Full cast. He gets rolled out on stage in a wheelchair. Not even completing his first song, he gets out of that wheelchair, and performs the rest of his songs standing up, doing his fist dancing, which if you have seen him play live, you know what I mean. Hearing this story takes me back to that night. It was the first time I had ever asked a woman for her number, and part of that motivation came from the energy he puts out. And it's because he reminds everyone, every time, as he speaks, and he performs, as he sings, that now is all we have, and we all need to be the unyielding force just as he is if we want what we want out of life. Anyway. I need to see this guy in concert again. Andrew W.K. is a god.
I love this guy so much and I don't even listen to his music
That place is absolutely world class.
So lovable
This guy’s hilarious and so genuine
This guy. I fricking love this guy.
At least he could talk about how he felt, I couldn't do that, when I did a poetry reading at a club. And I usually do music too. I was able to say the words, but I just went into a kind of shock, like a shock cocoon.
I like him alot, he's a real ass dude. But I felt his anxiety, Hard haha & it's hard to watch lol
Real Ass Dude Hall of Fame dawgy
As soon as he described what he thought a music audition would be, I knew this wasn’t gonna go well.
He looks like he doesn’t quite fit into his own body
"If I can't make it through that, I can't make it through anything."
He can make it through these sets, jesus his arms are huge
I’m geting second hand embarrassment
I love andrew so much. Great music, sweet guy
Poor guy. I’d love to hang out with him.
Wow. That was such a terribly amazing story.
So he's from Minnesota? I didn't pay attention, I just heard the accent.
nah, Michigan of all places
He's just precious goodness sakes
Great story man.....my anxiety meters off the fkn charts. The needle is spinning around so fast its on fire
OMGOSH I was thinking of Rocketman when he said it😂 but anyway great comedian, sincere and awesome🌸
Thank you for attending this TED talk
Everything this guy touches turns to gold
This was really engaging but more of a TED talk
16:00 guy behind his left knee must have had a very similar experience, based on the look on his face of how he can relate to that feeling.
I only know him from destroy build destroy as a kid
Same. I listened to his music for the first time a couple weeks ago, and I thought he looked familiar. And then I realized he was from Destroy Build Destroy.
Omg I love Andrew!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍 He's always been a ball of sunshine in the darkest times in my life.Thank you my love😊🤗💗💖💓💞💕
he's not changed in fucking ten years
Awwwwe he's so nervous. Or is really good at playing the bit. 8/10 Andrew WK international treasure
Gosh, may I say this is one beautiful dude.
Cafe Wha is a tourist trap but I used to go to it at least once a year when I lived in NYC because the house band rocked so hard. The guy Andrew is talking about is actually the owner, not the manager.
“I get anxiety listening to this” sounds condescending. His storytelling of being in new places as a young man is painted beautifully. I never seen him do regular speaking slash stand up besides stand up or late night shows. I love this.
I saw this same man perform with the drummer of the Ramones as a singer and performer...he was good...he’s awesome
That was one of the funnier stories that I have heard on here.
Yah, very cringe D:
I disliked this one the most out of all of them that I can remember watching.
Two months at Commes des Garçons is still a mighty impressive achievement, even among his other successes.
"Rocket Man, by Elton John" ... I DIED! As a 'really pretty good' musician (with a lot of practice), who has been thrust into improv situations with killer musicians, I can relate.
before he said the EJ song i thought he was gunna say
_okay so anyways, here's wonderwall....._
This dudes badass hope he goes far
That was gut wrenching to watch...
He’s my spirit animal
Saw him in my hometown recently.
Oh, sic! I want to see him, but I don't know when he's playing next.
He sounds like he's gonna pass out
