  • If you saw my recent review of the Takomo 101T irons, you'll know my first impressions were good, but in order to game them permanently, they'll need to perform well on the course!
    I took my Takomo's out at the beautiful hidden gem of a golf course that is Boomerang Golf Club - a course definitely worth playing.

    I’m usually not one to have a 4 iron. I suppose with the price of these I could just not put it in the bag. Honestly would like to try these out because why not?
    I did recently get some Ping i230’s - although not a distance iron the sound and feel are pretty amazing so I’m interested in comparing them

    Hi Jon,
    From watching your videos for a while, i suggest the 101 short irons launch higher and fly shorter - eg wedge and nine iron in particular - than your 525 regular distances. Might be worth checking the stated and actual lofts of those v your 525’s? Sim will be interesting too.
    Same shafts, same length, lie angle and lofts as the 525’s?

    • @JonPerkinsGolf
      @JonPerkinsGolf  11 месяцев назад

      Interesting pick up! I will look into that and definitely going to get them on the sim to look at numbers.
      (In theory) the 101t's should be around 1-2 degrees more lofted but thats based on stock standard and not checked.
      Same length and lie. Both stiff shafts but the weight of shaft may differ as different brands. I think the ones in the Takomo are slightly lighter.
      Thanks for watching and following along!

    Hi Jon I've enjoyed your videos for some time and they're improving all the time, well done. Quick question, where did you get the takomos? I was looking for new irons recently and wanted to try them, but couldn't find any here in Aus. Thanks mate.

    • @JonPerkinsGolf
      @JonPerkinsGolf  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks Simon, I really appreciate that! That's arguably the downside of Takomo...you buy them online (their website), so can't try them first. It saves money but means you have to take a leap of faith on the fitting specs.

    • @andrewbock1575
      @andrewbock1575 10 месяцев назад +1

      Realize this comment is from a while back, but I'll respond for general awareness.
      If you read takomo's return policy, you are allowed to try out the set using the 7 iron only, if you don't like it, you can return them. All other clubs must have the factory plastic on them and be unused. I also believe there's time limit as well. Can't play half a season with their seven iron and then decide to send the set back 😂
      Oh, also, it's for stock clubs only. If you customize shaft length, lie angle, loft, etc... they can't be returned

      I have the 201's I bought heads only and had built with Project X LZ shafts. I don't have the 101t but have PXG Gen 3 P (bought at $99 a club when they closed out that model last year). I wanted to compare a traditional forged head to a hollow body with similar loft. I find the hollow body irons are just a slight bit more forgiving and noticeably gentler feeling on mishits. Both feel great on good strikes as do most well made irons. The 201 feels a bit more solid on good strikes and hollow body's feels a bit more effortless on good strikes. The 201's generate a bit more spin and I get more stopping power in the longer irons. Distance wise they are quite comparable. For me it comes down to what I find more pleasant. They both feel great and my scores are the same with either. It's great that one can get irons that perform as good as the name brands for much less cost.

      Hey, thanks for the message. I prefer the Takomo feel and sound to my old i500's. The Pings were more clicky than these for sure.
      In terms of distance, the i500's were pretty long from memory. I'd guess Takomo might be a fraction shorter than the i500's but I'm about to put them in the sim to look at actual numbers on the 101t's.
      Believe they're usually around 6 weeks to get and in AUD maybe about $800 for the set?

    These irons feel great at first, but they are very pooly made. If you don't pick it clean, the heads start bending back and then break off. They're good for about 12-18 months, but I've had them start bending in less than a month. I sent them back, thinking bad batch, it happens. Nope, replacements also bend and break. They actually had the audacity to blame KBS, which is the shaft that they come with. I let KBS know and they had a word with Takomo about throwing their name under the bus. Stay away from these clubs unless you want to be buying new clubs every year or two.

      This sounds like a bunch of make believe B.S. Thousands of sets of these have been sold and this is the only time I've heard this. Beyond that, the whole "I personally call KBS and they yelled at Takomo for me" story is not honest. Even if they did blame KBS (They wouldn't do that and tell you) and you did call KBS (you didn't) you would most certainly not be privy to what they discussed with thier customer. Your post smacks of a childs machinations. Where were they "bending"? You didn't say. On the hosel? The shaft? Where? Calling B.S. all around.

      You might want to work on your ball striking. If this is true, which I don’t believe, you might be playing a lot of hard pan courses and coming in too steep.
