Grant you are the best you tube golfer to have Gary player on there balling out?? Soo amazing… who can be the next legend? I wish Payne Stewart was still alive , would be such an awesome video, get Nick or Lee on next
You have no idea how much pleasure this gave me! In 1969 at Royal Lytham, Gary was the defending champion. I was a "runner" aged 13 working on the tournament. Gary was a God! I can't believe I'm watching him play at 89! Thank you so much!
You just golfed with the greatest ambassador of the sport that has ever lived. He made golf what it is today on a global scale, and the game wouldn’t be what it is today without him. I didn’t want this 9 hole scramble to end because of the encyclopedia of stories and knowledge Mr. Player has. When you asked him about Jack and his response “he’s my best friend” was so genuine you could feel it through the screen. There will never be another Gary Player.
Man, when we lose Gary, Jack and Lee it will be sad days for golf indeed..........I am 76 so I am getting up there. Now, when I see a shadow on the ground and someone behind me, I look quick to see if it is my playing partner or The Reaper lol!
This was by far the most wholesome YT Golf vid I ever watched. How special to have had such an icon of the game share his insights, tips, jokes etc! He’s earned the right to say what he wants when he wants, IMHO. You can tell how much he enjoyed himself. Gary calling Grant’s dad 🥹❤Every part of this video was golden.
I can honestly say this was the best RUclips golf video I have ever seen. The stories that Gary told honestly made my heart melt so humble and his ball striking and putting was OMG, Grant this must have been one of your best days every to play with someone like Gary. You both played fantastic and I have already watch this over again. Thanks you for sharing this on your channel
I know you understand the gravity of the moment you just had. At least I hope you do. You played golf with one of the greatest golfers to have ever lived. One who brushed shoulders with the greatest to have ever played. You just walked in the shadow of history cast by a light that’s almost gone. Moments like this one should change you, forever.
That moment where Gary called your Dad was so special and I love that he wasn’t overawed to be speaking to a golf legend because, Grant, he already knows what a special man you are.
Oh man! Gary should have his own RUclips channel not even playing golf the whole time just him talking. I could listen to him all day. What a great guy and a freakin legend! Love you man thanks for all the memories when I was a kid
Grant you have produced some great content but this has to be my all time favorite. The stories Gary told were just exceptional along with his genuine enthusiasm. The compliments you earned along with making your own eagle in front of him had to feel pretty special. And then to have Mr. Player call your father with such kindness had to be a sureal experience. My sincerest hope is you and others can continue capturing history of golf by playing rounds with people like Player, Watson, a ride along with Jack……. I still watch old remastered versions of Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf, but it doesn’t capture this content! Great work!
Throughout this whole video I just could not stop smiling. History and future in a perfect blend. What a genuine and witty guy Gary Player is. Just ace Grant!
Grant, this is my favorite video of yours. This transcends golf. This is a life video. Golf history, philosophy, health advice, and gratitude. All rolled into one.
Awesome video. What a legend and at 89 years old he has amazing energy, positive vibes. What a joy to watch this. Still hits the ball great ! Majority of people at 89 can barely walk insane. Goes to show what a healthy lifestyle and fitness can do to your longevity
When I started playing golf in 1967, there was Gary Player showing how it's done. I'm 72 now and Gary's still teaching me things about the game. I hope he's immortal.
This honestly was one of your best videos for me imo! I know for most of your fans that this may not be one of your more notable match ups but the amount of gems, lessons and knowledge that Mr. Player shared not only in golf but also life is truly amazing & something that most people should take into account. The man is a living legend and just someone you want to be around & have fun with on the course that after a round, you walk away feeling like not only you learned some stuff but come away as a better human being! Thanks for the content & thank Gary for the good lessons & entertainment! Bravo! 👏🙌🙏
It was so nice seeing you play with my all time Hero, I am now 75 years old and originaly from Soth Africa. His 7 iron chip and run I still use today. Grant thanks for sharing your game with Gary Player, you played with a true legend.
That was an absolute joy to watch. I could listen to Gary talk forever! What makes this a great video is it is 2 wonderful people with kind demeanor talking together
What an amazing video !!! Gary is an absolute legend. What a great opportunity to play with the best golfer EVER ! His stories about the other legends and his tips were gold. The best golf video I've seen on RUclips period ! His laugh and demeaner was heartwarming and a pleasure to watch. Gary is truly Great !
Had some interactions with Gary Player back in the 1960s. On the course and had lunch with him. Such a principled individual and an interesting mix of humility and ego. When he played tournaments during the peak of his career he was all business on the course, but when he finished his round he usually would not leave the course until he had signed autographs for every fan who wanted one. Often he would have the fans create a line and he would not leave until the line was empty. Engaged with every fan. He did feel he never got enough credit for his globe trotting as an ambassador for golf back in those days. And, as he stated during the round with Grant, he was light years ahead in the importance of physical development in golf. Back in the 1960s basically no pro came close to emulating Gary for their own benefit. So, he likely is right on both those counts. Such an impressive man, and deserving of much respect. Thank you, Grant for this video and kudos on the respect you showed him during the round.
Grant, always love your content, but this easily makes my top 3 list of all your content. The stories from a legend, the knowledge, the fact at 89 he's still doing it. I think if you never made another video you could easily hang your hat on this one! Well Done!!!
2 years ago on my 51st birthday I was lucky enough to play a round with my 71 yr old father and 91 yr old grandfather. My grandfather used to test clubs for Gary Player back in the day. This video reminds me of that round I got to play that day. My grandfather passed just a few months later so for many reasons I couldn’t love this video more! Thanks Grant and Mr Player.
@@toddsmith6631 my dad had me at 56 and his dad had him at 55! i come from a long line of geezer dads. i was born in 1996 and my great grandpa was born in 1861
Grant, your channel just keeps getting better and better. I wish you had kept talking about Ben Hogan. Gary Player is one of the few people alive that played a lot of golf with him. Your question about Hogan’s putting was fascinating and I wish there was more conversation about that.
I play senior scrambles every Monday, at 63 I'm the baby of the group. To play with gentleman up to 90, it inspires me to live a life of grace they display. Gary is one of the most entertaining and lovely people there is. Love the route your channel is going Grant. Keep up the great work!
This is defo one of the most enjoyable videos I've watched in while, what a legend Gary is, love the respect he gave you and your dad, what a guy. Great content yet again, Grant.
The first time I watched Gary Player play was in the summer of 1960 at the Calgary Golf and Country Club in Calgary, Alberta. This was really before TV golf in Canada and there must have been 5,000 people there, that hot July day. He was around 24 years old , and the exhibition match pitted Mr. Player with Stan Leonard, against top amateurs Bob Wylie and Canadian Amateur champion Keith Alexander. I was 10 years old , in love with golf and couldn't wait to see him. Because I was so short, some of the fans would let me go in front of them to catch a glimpse of one of my heroes..I remember many were carrying those rectangular, mirrored tubes that galleries used in those days to watch the play. Player shot 67, Leonard 68, and the amateurs 70 and 71. These people were my heroes and all of them are gone now, except for Gary Player. The next year, he won the Masters. I'll never forget that day, and think about it often.
Gary Player an absolute legend and all time personality. This guy had me cracking up the whole video. I bet playing a round with Gary has to be a blast.
Gary Player - the King of Golf and One liners. I don't think the smile that I had on my face left the entire video. What an incredible opportunity to get great advice through the screen. Grant, you are living all golfer's dreams and learning from the best. Great video, well done mate!
Look up the word legend in the dictionary and it will be a picture of this man. 89 years old... golfing... sharp as a whip. Absolutely incredible. A life that people could only dream for.
To be totally honest i always thought Gary Player was so opinionated to the point of annoying, but this video has definitely changed my mind, the sight of him marching up and down the range shouting instructions to other golfers was absolute gold, thanks Grant for a fantastic video.
Amazing video Grant. As a fellow South African living here in the USA, it gives me a lot of pride to watch Gary who is beyond amazing and his golf game is beyond reproach for his age. As someone already stated in the comments, he is the greatest golf ambassador this world has ever seen.
I love it. When you’re almost 90, and have the confidence to speak your mind, you want to say everything you can before it’s too late. He’s got so much to say it’s great. Cherish him.
Grant, been following you since your first video with GG. Was upset that you left, but understand why and the trajectory that this path has taken you is mind blowing. Thank you and all of the RUclips golf content creators for brining the game to the younger generation. As for this video, WOW! Playing a 9 hole scramble with Gary Player, I bet you never in your wildest dreams imagined this could happen and what a legend he is. Having one of the greatest golfers to ever swing a club tell you that you have a majestic swing?? I mean, really. Congrats on all of your success!! I really hope you understand the gravity of this moment. It really is amazing.
I am only half way through the video, but I do not think I have ever been happier or smiling more than watching this video. Gary Player has got to be one of the most positive people in golf. This has to be my all time favorite video I have ever watched of yours Grant, and I have seen every single video from day 1.
History One of the greatest 9 hole golf biographies ever on RUclips this guy is a legend of the game and Grant you brought him into our homes for a little while. It was awesome getting to hear his take on the game, experience his personality, perspective and sharing of the past. My Favorite video you have EVER done!
Hilariously, according to Gary's old high school, his greatest achievement was in the 1959 Jonny Thwaite final. He came in at 11, with the great Dr. Ali Bacher down the other end, and KES looked buried (I think it was against St. John's but I can't remember...). Gary scored 29 not out to help Ali win the match. And then he went on to do this golf thing, and was "rather successful..."😂😂😂😂
What an amazing video. I had the chance to meet with Gary at the Nedbank Million Dollar challenge in South Africa. The knowledge, stories and experience he was willing to share. What a true champion and great ambassador to the game of gold
As a kid I watched Jack, Arnie, Gary, Lee and Chi Chi playing in the skins games. I'm 40 now and I know how short a time left we have we these legends of the game we all love, and we've already lost some of them. I'm so glad we have a video like this with Gary, and I'm really glad you got to have this experience with him Grant. Don't take it for granted. You just had a moment 99% of people who play this game wish they could have and never will. I'd say you're lucky, but I don't believe in luck. You made this happen with hard work and dedication. Congrats.
I loved watching the Skins Games on TV here in New Zealand. Those players had plenty of personality. Today they’re slicker and more professional and less likely to goof around. TGL might provide some good content on that front.
I'm watching it now and can't wipe the smile off my face. What a very classy man Gary Player is. I met him many years ago at a tournament and what a genuine kind man. Grant a day you will never forget.
I purchased Gary’s DVD training set. Absolutely changed my game. He is so passionate ( just like Grant ) about teaching golf to everyone. Great people what an honor to have shared the tee with an absolute legend!
If you don’t absolutely love this video, you need help. Gary is such an entertaining guy with tons of knowledge and wit! I love getting to see some of the characters that were part of what got me to love golf. I am 71 years old and, like Gary, have been playing this game since we played with persimmon woods and blades. The only game improvement was through hard work. Bring on more of the old guys if you can get them!
Absolutely amazing video! I did not want this one to end… Gary is such a personality and you both have such class. This video is the top of my chart. Thank you so much for joining together and giving us the joy of watching you
I know this get said a lot on a lot of You Tube Golf videos. But, this is my favorite one I have ever watched. Just incredible to see Gary Player at 89 hit the ball like that. But, just as amazing is his personality, wisdom and just great sense of good will. Man the stories that man could tell.
I think this is your greatest video! Gary's laugh, his willingness to teach and show different things. The striker of the golf ball at 89 years old! Of all the legends of the game of golf that are still around, this was the one. The phone call to your Dad on HIS request........priceless!
I appreciate this episode so much. Gary Player has been the most gracious embassador for the game for decades. It doesn't hurt that he is also very funny and exceptionally kind yet honest. Great job, Grant! What a cool video
AMAZING video - the Best - and I have watched most of your videos . A South African myself I feel honoured and proud of how Gary represents . Loved it when he said that the last time he missed the fairway the pope was still an altar boy . I have a greater/better idea of who you are after listening to your dad speaking to Gary - great respect .
Yes, Tigers a genuine legend of the game, but his personality is reserved a little introverted, unlike Phil and Gary, extroverts who can't stop talking, they're personalities are more suited to this format.
Video of the year! Gary Player is a legend-he’s forgotten more about golf than most of us will ever know. And it’s on Grant’s second channel? Smart move! Didn’t even know this channel existed, but now I’m subscribed. Let’s go!
What a tremendous pairing. I am from good old Germany and play golf since 45 years. Because there was no golf presented in the tv before berhard Langer -and even with him only short coverage-, there was actually no big chance to follow the big ones out of the former era like Gary Player. What a marvelous man he is. So kind, charming, natural and superfit. I love this vid between these to fantastic guys. Thanks for sharing and many more such good golf for Gary.
What an amazing treat to have Gary on!! Growing up I loved watching Gary, Jack, Trevino , Palmer and Chi Chi!! Always so animated and all could tell amazing stories. Love Gary!! Thank you Grant
That was probably my favorite thing you've done, Grant. Not only is Gary a great story teller, he's still an incredible golfer! And it must have been a special day for your dad to get a call from Gary Player. Here's a thought. You and the Bryan Bros invite a legend to play a scramble, tell some stories, and show us how it's done. Well done.
Forget for a moment all of his accomplishments in golf. What is he like as a human being? How can you not love this man within 60 seconds of the video? His passion for golf is still stratospheric, while also being incredibly educational and entertaining. After watching this video, if someone told me that I could have dinner with any golfer, it would be Gary Player, hands-down.
I used to caddie at Old York CC (one of his designed courses) in NJ 27 years ago (I was 19). Met Gary Player a few times. He was an amazing guy. Just like he was in this video. A true gentleman, and funny as hell.
I'm surprised this didn't make the main channel, as this is easily one of my favorite videos from you, Grant. Gary is the man, and what a great moment when he called your dad. I hope this video takes off as if it was posted on the main!
Grant, as a father I will tell you there will be few things in life you will do that will make your dad prouder than that phone call. To have anyone call you to tell you how respectful and well-mannered of a person you are is something all dads hope for. Congrats and great video.
I will play this for my 90 year old dad who loved watching Gary and Jack. Thank you so much for making such wonderful content on RUclips. So quality programming instead of all the noise. I can't get over how well he still strikes the ball. Amazing. God Bless.
I stood behind Gary at the range when Palmer won at ST Georges in 1975 I think. IT BLEW A STORM that day. I watched Gary hitting balls on the range. It was a master class of control. His son was on the bag and collecting the balls as he hit them. One bounce and in the bag. Club after club through the bag. it was not until the longer clubs his son had to move a bit to catch the ball . Every ball bounced once and collected. This is a testimony from me to how good GARY PLAYER was. and still is. He was just fantastic. Palmer shot 69 in a Gale of 50 mph winds in the last round. my mate and I had had enough after about 12 holes and retired to the Guinness tent. Then we heard the roar. as palmer eagled 15.. What a day for me but MR PLAYER range session was about as good as it gets for striking a golf ball. Fantastic is all I can say. He is and was that good. So anyone who thinks this guy was not a legend in Golf . get a new head.
This is the greatest content yet to be released in RUclips golf. I love GP’s insight. I love his uncanny ability. I love his friendly nature and helping people unconditionally.
Legendary! Mr Horvat must have been so proud getting that phone call from Gary. Unreal. Such a funny, clever, knowledgeable, and engaging guest. I had no idea I'd enjoy this video as much as i did. Nice one, Grant!
I know that everyone tells you that you have amazing tempo Grant (because you do), but Gary’s comments on the first tee must have felt extra sweet, considering he’s a legend who tells it like it is.
Greatest golf video I've seen man, what an iconic moment to take with you throughout your life, this should be one of the moments you'l talk about forever and tell your grandchildren about, gary player one of the best to ever do it. Loved the episode. What a player still at 89! Crazy.

White South African who supports apartheid. A life we could only dream is is right
To be totally honest i always thought Gary Player was so opinionated to the point of annoying, but this video has definitely changed my mind, the sight of him marching up and down the range shouting instructions to other golfers was absolute gold, thanks Grant for a fantastic video.
Amazing video Grant. As a fellow South African living here in the USA, it gives me a lot of pride to watch Gary who is beyond amazing and his golf game is beyond reproach for his age. As someone already stated in the comments, he is the greatest golf ambassador this world has ever seen.
"37... one was lucky." 😂 What a great guest, like playing with your grandfather. Love Gary Player!
He has had much better content than GG as far as I am concerned. Grant has had a wide variety of golfers on.
@@bobbys4327100% agree
I am only half way through the video, but I do not think I have ever been happier or smiling more than watching this video. Gary Player has got to be one of the most positive people in golf. This has to be my all time favorite video I have ever watched of yours Grant, and I have seen every single video from day 1.
History
One of the greatest 9 hole golf biographies ever on RUclips this guy is a legend of the game and Grant you brought him into our homes for a little while. It was awesome getting to hear his take on the game, experience his personality, perspective and sharing of the past.
My Favorite video you have EVER done!
The genuine joy in this video was one of the best I’ve seen in a while. Main channel stuff!!!!
As a South African. Thank you. Really enjoyed this. Gary always been an inspiration. Next Ernie Els?
Apartheid apologist isn’t an inspiration
Yes please! 😉
That would be awesome
Hilariously, according to Gary's old high school, his greatest achievement was in the 1959 Jonny Thwaite final.
He came in at 11, with the great Dr. Ali Bacher down the other end, and KES looked buried (I think it was against St. John's but I can't remember...).
Gary scored 29 not out to help Ali win the match.
And then he went on to do this golf thing, and was "rather successful..."😂😂😂😂
Big Easy? Big Fan! Love Ernie Els!
Coaching on the range had me laughing
Just starts fucking yelling at random 12 handicappers on the range 😂😂😂 absolute gold!
It's hilarious that even the pros become quintessential old guy golfers. Zero filter whatsoever
“if I’m Mickey Mouse and you’re Mickey Mouse!” I was still laughing from the range and that brought more on
I would be like "Thank you so much Mr. Player!"
It got me laughing too but if he started to coach me on the range, i'd take it seriously and an honor that he'd take a bit of time to give me advice.
What an amazing video. I had the chance to meet with Gary at the Nedbank Million Dollar challenge in South Africa. The knowledge, stories and experience he was willing to share. What a true champion and great ambassador to the game of gold
This is so special, and I'm so thankful I got the opportunity to watch this. Speechless on how good this was
We have changed the name of this channel. There will still be some teaching content, but want to have vlogs, matches, and guests on here too! Enjoy.
Thanks Grant
We need a better name tho because it’s hard to distinguish between the two. just think on it.
How long did it take you to think of the new Channel name Grant? 😂
Never stop bro. People really love and relate to you. Be you. Stay you.
@@GrantHorvatGolfsTwo how about doing some live playing lessons?
As a kid I watched Jack, Arnie, Gary, Lee and Chi Chi playing in the skins games. I'm 40 now and I know how short a time left we have we these legends of the game we all love, and we've already lost some of them. I'm so glad we have a video like this with Gary, and I'm really glad you got to have this experience with him Grant. Don't take it for granted. You just had a moment 99% of people who play this game wish they could have and never will. I'd say you're lucky, but I don't believe in luck. You made this happen with hard work and dedication. Congrats.
Gary looks like hes got another 20 years in him
I loved watching the Skins Games on TV here in New Zealand. Those players had plenty of personality. Today they’re slicker and more professional and less likely to goof around. TGL might provide some good content on that front.
Old people rock and Gary is an old gem.
To call his dad and compliment was gold.
This is the collab we didn't know we needed. Gary needs to be added to the Making the cut series as your hype man.
What a joy to watch, Gary is such a gentleman, and his sense of humor is so refreshing. You Grant and Gary are great ambassadors and examples.
What a character. Living legend right there
I just love Gary he’s just a ball of energy and a hell of a Golfer. Man talks sense and it take years for people to listen.
This was better than the Tiger Woods video Gary is the man
I don’t think Grant was quite as star-struck with Gary - definitely more entertaining video though, Gary seems a gem.
@@markmccumber4971 Good point. Gary's a well before his time so that's probably why
Oh yea. Pissing and moaning from the start. Giving unsolicited advice. “Gold”. More pissing and moaning.
Yes, Tigers a genuine legend of the game, but his personality is reserved a little introverted, unlike Phil and Gary, extroverts who can't stop talking, they're personalities are more suited to this format.
@@SaintKimbothat... and Gary actually took the time to actually golf with him. Instead of showing up for 10 minutes and hitting a few shots
Grant, what a great memory that you can share with your dad . Gary Player calling your dad and telling him you raised a good young man. Awesome
Video of the year! Gary Player is a legend-he’s forgotten more about golf than most of us will ever know. And it’s on Grant’s second channel? Smart move! Didn’t even know this channel existed, but now I’m subscribed. Let’s go!
Grant, this was my favorite video you’ve ever done. It was FASCINATING listening to Gary’s wisdom and interaction with other people.
Gary is so magnanimous. I love how complimentary he is of Grant’s game. How awesome to have a legend do that
Grant it really brought a tear to my eye when Gary called your dad. I can tell you it meant the world to your Dad to hear him talk nicely about you.
There is no stopping you now, Grant. Best golf Chanel on youtube hands down. Everyone wants to golf with you. I'm loving it.
What an honor to play with an absolute legend!
All I can say is WOW!! Sir Gary is a freakingmazing for 89 God Bless him:)
40 mins of just listening to gary player is priceless, you are one lucky person grant.
Thank you for posting this incredible video. 👍👍👍.
What an absolute honor for you young man!!
And I’m proud that it wasn’t click bait
He really likes to talk and teach!
89 years old and still tweaking with his game got to love it
this def coulda been a main channel video IMO
Grants putting is on fire in this, loving how much Gary is enjoying Grants game.
This is the greatest content yet to be released in RUclips golf. I love GP’s insight. I love his uncanny ability. I love his friendly nature and helping people unconditionally.
Amazing to see how passionate he still is about the sport. Wandering off and giving those lessons on the driving range....he really cares.
This is one of your top vids of all time.
SO cool that Gary wanted Grant to phone his dad so he could compliment him!
Absolutely incredible!!! Thanks for posting this. What a treat to get to see him in this type of element.
What a fantastic video. I grow up watching Gary, Arnie and Jack. Love the respect you have for Gary. Please do more of these.
What a legend. He is living proof that if you don't slow down you don't grow old. At 89 he can still mop the floor at public courses for sure.
You know what that call that in South Africa, the same thing you call it here.
Talent 😂😂
Greatest golf video I've seen man, what an iconic moment to take with you throughout your life, this should be one of the moments you'l talk about forever and tell your grandchildren about, gary player one of the best to ever do it. Loved the episode. What a player still at 89! Crazy.
