We’ve helped some people after some pretty scary home invasions & so many time the home invaders get in the garage & then go through that interior door.
@@GeorgeLangabeer can you help me pick a system that has human motion detection and has ports for a external alarm for inside my home? Those 2 options are the most important things for me and the rest don’t much matter I’m fine with wired cams and only need 4, rec isnt important as this is for instant notification I have a few camera systems that work for the motion but the alarms aren’t near loud enough I really need something loud enough to wake me up
note regarding side of house and windows.I have single story ranch home, I had only a ring doorbell, intruders were able to go undetected in the street and gained entry through a window on side of house into garage, destroyed garage door into the house, exited through bedroom side window on opposite side of house. thus why I am here now to figure out the best places to put my new cameras, the sides of the house will definitely be a part of the configuration
As for that doorbell facing the wrong direction, my Eufy doorbell came with an extra install plate to angle the way it sits on the wall. Just a little info for anyone that may also be facing this issue.
Yeah, almost all the video doorbells out there, come with a “wedge”. You can also find a 3rd party wedge for most models, that give you even more of an angle.
This was an excellent video. I presently am looking to protect a home and thinking about Cameras my doorbell positioning almost covers my front door / garage and a view of all the way across the street at my neighbor so positioning is key.
Great information George, first question I have is pretty sure you said in one of your videos it is best to have a camera be on 24/7 on a loop feed. Everything I have checked into with HomeKit seems to only come on by motion? The Eufy looks like it comes with its on hard drive so maybe that one is different? Second question I have a park in my back yard is it better to have a camera pointing towards the park or at the back of the yard pointing towards the house? Thanks George keep the great videos coming...
Thank you! Eufy & Homekit won’t be 24/7. The best wifi solution that is 24/7 is Google Nest. But the absolute best would be a wired NVR system. You can get Nest into HomeKit. Easiest way is The Starling Home Hub. Second answer is always be selfish. Lol…back of the yard toward the house is best. Appreciate the continued support!
@@GeorgeLangabeer. Hi George I have one more question. I was away a couple of weeks ago and got broke into. They took cash and jewelry. Since then I have added a Circle View camera a few Caseta smart switches and sensors on all my exterior doors. I am away again and I found through the day traveling I get no response on all Accesseries. I was hoping at night when at our hotel and have wifi same thing no response. Hoping you can tell me what I have done wrong?? Thanks again George great information.
Damn, that sucks. Sorry to hear that. Do you have a HomeKit Hub? Apple TV or HomePod Mini? If you don’t, your accessories will not work when you’re away from home.
@@GeorgeLangabeer I do have 2 HomePod Mini’s and 2 Apple TV’s. I do all my loading of accessories on my iPhone. I guess I just assumed that one of the others would become the hub. Do I need to assign a hub?
I purchased a set of 16 as I have a corner property. Covered all 4 sides, back yard, garage exterior and interior, all points of door entry both inside and out. They have voice and facial recognition. Onwote system. Also, they are connected to master bedroom TV, adult daughter TV, and family room TV. Click of a button and full view of all 16 at once. Nice video, I would definitely relocate that front door camera facing out so if they have a car you stand a chance of getting it as well.
Thank you! Very helpful! My question is I have a rambler that sits on a slab foundation. There are not many places I can mount a camera out of reach. Do you have suggestions on how to do deal with this? Thank you.
"Thieves don't seem to use windows". Ours was shattered since all other entrances were locked and secured. Thanks for the tips though. Sad that it needs to be done, but cameras are almost a must now. Thanks again
I was hoping you had an example of a place to put a front porch camera (not door bell style). I came for the front door. Overall good video. I guess I think it might look awkward right above door. It's an Arlo Ultra 2
Hey George i know you said side cameras aren’t necessary but on my house there’s one side that has no windows at all and there is gate to enter the property…..feels blind whenever i’m in the house i can’t see what’s going on around there…..
Door bell cameras seem too close to be effective. Nextdoor postings show fisheye pictures often not useful for identification, and a short focal length that doesn't reach beyond the porch. Plus, a criminal with a strip of black tape can block the camera. Your thoughts?
Depends on the video doorbell. There are some video doorbells that have great cameras. Most police departments will tell you they’ve never had as much evidence as they do now, thanks to video doorbells. They have aided in capturing more criminals than any other security device. Not to mention, in addition to video, the audio feature of a video doorbell is also key. With the two way audio, you can make people think you’re home when you’re not & that alone can scare away a thief.
Some companies are selling battery powered outdoor cameras. I can't help but anticipate the inconvenience of changing a battery or SD card every 2 months on a camera 10' high. Your thoughts?
Yeah, I’m not a fan of battery cameras. They are not as reliable, they are often lacking some features & yes, charging the battery can be a real pain. Power your camera whenever possible.
Nice vid! Only problem I am having is the doorbell. I have a gated house, and the doorbell is bulky and I feel they can rip it or hit it from the side to take it out. Nice vid
Thank you! Unfortunately, that’s going to be the case with any video doorbell (because of the height). You just need to buy one that’s the most vandal proof. The new Aqara video doorbell is bulky, but it has a very loud alarm that sounds when it’s forcibly removed. I show an example in the review I did…ruclips.net/video/0UCRHo3sbTY/видео.html
That's what happened to my neighbors a couple years ago, they left the garage door open and someone came in through that door and tied them up and robbed them. After that I put a keypad lock on mine in case I left the doors open. Another thing alarm companies never do is wire the side door on the garage, had a professor years ago that was robbed like that. The alarm was on but the thief hid in the garage until he turned the alarm off and came into the garage and boom so my side door is wired in. I also have stuff against it and a camera in the garage. The garage though, that's a biggie. Even now so many of my neighbors still leave their doors open all the time, I just shake my head. My buddy also wired in cameras on the island in his cul-de-sac in addition to the ones on his house. I will probably do the same in the summer.
#1 How high should cameras be installed to limit alternation/damage by a criminal? #2 Why are cameras shown not painted same color as the walls to be more disguised? Careful taping of the lens will prevent paint on the lens.
1. My rule of thumb is at least 8-10 feet. You want the thief to at least need a 6 ft. Ladder to reach them. 2. You don’t want the cameras to be disguised. Cameras are a deterrent & should be seen. I say it all the time, “you have no idea how many times a camera pays for itself by what it deters without you knowing”. If a thief sees a house with cameras, MOST of the time, they will go to the next house. Also…painting your cameras will void the warranty.
thanks for the advise big scary bald security dude who looks in your previous life you were a thief until you got caught, went to jail, and turned your life around...well done!
All These webcams are constantly linked to the cloud and as a result cause excessive use of your data plan. If your plan don’t have unlimited data then be prepared to pay for overage. Your best bet is to get a NVR camera system that stores your recordings locally.
EVERYONE should know that if all your surveillance cameras are connected through WiFi, then you HAVE A VERY VULNERABLE system and is going to be of no help to stop/catch a thief that’s reached a certain expertise level. WiFi cameras have plenty of good uses as long as you have hard wired cameras also… but if your security system relies on WiFi it is paper thin and the would be thief/criminal doesn’t even have to be that experienced and Amazon sells the devices fairly cheap depending on your definition of cheap.
As I’ve said all along, a wired camera system is always more ideal & secure if you have the choice. But some people don’t have the choice (apartments & such). WiFi cameras are still better than nothing, as the majority of thieves have NOT reached the level of expertise you’re speaking of. It’s all about being as proactive as your situation allows.
Funny. Those exact cameras have caught a few neighborhood thieves (multiple times). So I respectfully disagree. But thanks for watching & thanks for the comment.
Once again, I respectfully disagree. & it’s not “my great picture quality”. It’s just a simple fact that the quality is good enough to catch these people & I have real life events to back it up. Sorry cloud cameras have you so bitter. Lol
Got four cameras back in April 2022 for $138 after experiencing three home invasions in the last 30 years. But we don't want anybody to know that we have cameras. We want to get somebody in prison.
None of those cameras will help if the intruders use Wi-Fi jammers. And they use them more and more now.. Everything should be wired ideally. Also, those cameras are terrible at identification (2mp), the resolution is so low that you will never be able to identify an intruder.
The use of wi-fi jammers is incredibly rare. In fact, They don’t use them more & more. It’s only people like you saying they do, that people think it’s common. It’s Les’s than 1% of all theft incidents. Yes, wired is better, but these cameras deter crimes & help solve crimes everyday. Cameras were a good option even back in the analog/720p days. At 2MP, with facial recognition alerts person alerts these are a perfectly viable security option. Most certainly better than a burglar alarm and definitely better than nothing. Cameras (even at 2MP) deter more crimes than any other security option available.
