    This is the second home in which ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

    Enjoy your videos. I think the use of a monitoring system depends on where you live so we know your reference is. I have a sister with Ring and she has not had any problems, has moved it between rental properties, and no problems with the system. At a condo building where I lived, the Ring doorbell is on many interior doors and it also works well in that application. The good thing with various products and price points/functions is that the end-user can find what fits their needs.

      When they work, they work great. But like I said in the video, after installing them on a daily basis we ran into way too high of a fail rate (out of the box) & that made us look bad more often than not. As small business owner, I can’t afford that. But I’m happy to hear you like yours & have avoided the issues. If it works & gives you peace of mind, that’s all that matters.

      @@GeorgeLangabeer I totally agree with you, in my neighborhood we have Ring camera's and they failed when needed. A car was broken into and out of the five neighbors that had the Ring Camera not one pick up the burglary. We all checked our Ring Camera and nothing, we figured they jammed the Wifi signal as the only camera that picked it up was an old wired camera by one of my neighbors. That's why I'm asking what is the best wired camera out there.

    I am in Michigan and have a little of everything, had the Ring Pro doorbell since the beginning and it has worked flawlessly. Now the batter Ring cam, it's kind of crap but that piece you referred to that falls off, there is a screw that holds that in so that should never happen, it's a proprietary screw that you don't want to lose but never had anything fall off, however it just disconnected yesterday so have to go out in the snow and pull the battery out and put it back in. LOL. Long story short, only buy WIRED Ring doorbells.

    I bought a hardwired RING basic doorbell for my 82 year-old, mostly deaf, mother, so she would receive visual notification of visitors that would alert her on her cellphone, which is also hooked up to her hearing aids. Because my elderly mother is in a fixed income, and not very technologically proficient, I opted for the most basic, simple, least expensive version that is supposed to replace any existing hardwired doorbell and can be installed by almost anyone with minimal electrical or mechanical skill, like myself. I do have some knowledge about home maintenance and repairs, however-so I first checked the specs on her existing 40 year-old doorbell that worked perfectly since installation long before my family purchased the house- and the specs for the transformer were in line with the requirements for the basic hardwired RING. I even checked the wiring with a voltmeter and the reading confirmed the power was adequate. I then followed the installation instructions meticulously and upon completion the RING doorbell failed to function, supposedly due to inadequate power from the transformer. Tracking down the transformer was more difficult and when I finally located it, in the darkest, most inaccessible creepy old closet in the garage, nestled among 50-year-old cobwebs and God knows how many spider carcasses, not to mention the still living crawling things that probably reside there, I had to throw in the towel. I’m handy, but fuck spiders in my hair- and I don’t give up easily so this was a moment of great frustration for me. Dejected and angry, I uninstalled the RING, defeated, and reinstalled the old doorbell. At this point I had already drilled holes in the brick to mount the new button, which was larger than the old one so the old holes were hidden behind hit- to do this I had to purchase a masonry bit for my drill- needless to say I was EXTREMELY unhappy having to mount the old button, leaving the two new holes visible. My mother’s home, while old, is very nice-she keeps things very neat and tidy and while two small screw holes may not seem like a big deal to most, my mom HATES flaws like that. Still, I carefully rewired the old button and securely mounted it to its original 40 year location only to discover- IT NO LONGER WORKED!!! After 40+ years of flawless operation!!!! I was already wary of RING because the wiring instructions intentionally bypassed the chime, so that by installing the RING, you lost the regular chime function of the existing doorbell- of course, in order to retain regular doorbell function RING required an upgrade to the next model, which was 2.5 times the cost of the basic. This, I felt, was an underhanded, intentional effort to force customers to purchase the more expensive model by purposely configuring their product in a way that unnecessarily disconnected the existing doorbell chime. So when I found my old doorbell suddenly broken after attempting to install the RING, I researched the basic model online and found, unsurprisingly, that countless other customers all experienced the same issue, regardless of the type, model, manufacturer, age or configuration of their existing and previously functional doorbell. When I contacted RING I was told they would be happy to “fix” the problem their product caused by replacing my transformer for “free” IF I upgraded to their model that cost 2.5 times more than the basic version. WHAT A COMPLETE SCAM. That fraudulent, unscrupulous company is selling thousands of unsuspecting customers a product that will damage their personal property, thereby forcing them into spending more than double their original investment or else the customer, while they may be refunded, will no longer have a functional doorbell and face a much more difficult and expensive repair as a result. For many people, especially senior citizens like my 82 year old mother, who are concerned about home safety and want a video doorbell for personal security, but who may also be living in a fixed income, attempting the very simple RING basic installation is already a challenge, so to then be confronted with a transformer malfunction or more complex electrical wiring issue, they are totally out of their depth and stuck with no doorbell at all or forced to purchase a RING PRO, that they cannot afford and may not even be able to operate or understand. FURTHERMORE, after the RING BASIC damages their existing transformer, the installation of another wired doorbell, the installation of the RING PRO doorbell or even the repair/replacement of their now faulty transformer will doubtless require they acquire the assistance of someone with some level of technical knowledge or professional experience to locate the old transformer and solve the problem. What if the transformer is in the crawl space??? How the hell could my 82-year-old mother ever resolve the problem caused by the CROOKS AT RING, without paying somebody??? Now, I know I can go buy a transformer and face my fear of spiders and swap it out, but that will set me back at least $30 and an hour or two of my time, not to mention subject me to extreme emotional angst, when prior to making the mistake of assuming a company as well-known and heavily promoted as RING would be peddling a decent product that functioned as promised and treat customers fairly, my mother had a perfectly good, functional, reliable doorbell that never gave her any problems.
    If there is any advice you can offer me, regarding my current dilemma after I GOT TOTALLY DEFRAUDED, CHEATED, SCAMMED, AND RIPPED OFF BY THE SCANDALOUS, UNETHICAL THIEVING CORPORATE CRIMINALS AT RING, WHO CON TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS AND CHEAT AND LIE FOR PROFIT, I would be very grateful. As of right now, I plan to install a motion activated camera that has nothing to do with the now broken doorbell, and with a gun to my head I will force myself to install a new wired doorbell and transformer- troubleshooting the old bell and transformer seems daunting and like it may lengthen the amount of time I have to spend in the creepy, dark, dirty cabinet in the garage with the 50 year old spider nest.

    What an interesting perspective. I've never once thought about the plastic and build quality of the smart security devices because I only care about the video quality, software, and cloud perks. I'm curious. It's 2022 now. Does Amazon Ring finally have person detection (or what you called in the video facial recognition)? I'm sad that Google discontinued their smart security line.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 года назад

      Ring has “person detection”, but not facial recognition. Nest/Google does have a new line of cameras (which have facial recognition).

    • @Stigmaru
      @Stigmaru 2 года назад +5

      @@GeorgeLangabeer I haven't played with "person detection" or "facial recognition" features in modern cameras but to me facial recognition is just a subset of person detection as both uses a neural net to detect. This is why I agree that camera based security systems are so much better than traditional motion sensors which gets false alarms all the time (no matter how well you block out portions of the detection area). If the camera detects a person in any condition or angle, an alert can get triggered and depending on how well the neural net model is trained, it should be near 99% accurate. However, I don't really see the meaningful benefits of facial recognition yet other than it being half a gimmick and half a luxury feature. It's analogous to an iPhone face unlock feature. I'd prefer finger print unlock every time for all the same reasons. You did make me realize one silver lining behind Google discontinuing the Nest Secure unit though and that's basically Google giving up on traditional alarm system but still keeping their "proactive" camera based ecosystem online (hopefully). It's a similar reason to why both Tesla and Toyota are focusing solely on cameras based self driving systems.

    I recently decided to get a video doorbell, and i ended up going with a Blink one (well, I actually got 4, 2 for me, 2 for my sister), i wont bother explaining the reasons for my choice
    I have one installed at the “yard” door, and one installed at the “garden” door (the “yard” door being what we use as the front door, even though that is technically the BACK door)
    The video doorbell at the “yard” door will come in handy for figuring out where the delivery person hid the parcel (where i live, delivery drivers don’t leave the parcel at the door and walk off, they will either hand the parcel to you, put it in a safe place (which our yard has a few places where they can hide it), take it to a neighbour (i have taken a few parcels in for neighbours, and i think there was one time where they were in, but they were too slow getting to the door, as they came round to collect it a few minutes later), or take it back to the depot (where they will usually try again up to 2 more times before returning it to sender))
    Although the delivery drivers (usually) leave a card when there was no one in, which indicates where the parcel is (if the driver put it in a safe place, they will indicate where they left it (but sometimes it isn’t entirely clear, especially if there are multiple sheds, and i did at one point have to play hunt the parcel as they didn’t leave it in any of the usual places (didn’t have the video doorbells installed at that point, and they didn’t leave a card, I don’t know if that delivery company is doing away with the cards, and instead relying on people checking the tracking info)), or if they left it with a neighbour, they will indicate which house)
    I have also got a ring alarm system, but i am using that system more as a “trial run”, to see how i get on with having an alarm system (i might go with a professionally installed system down the road, since the ring system won’t be able to have police response anyway), and i do not have an outdoor siren

    Hi ! I work with cloud services often so I’d like to give a few thoughts :)
    It is indeed crucial to address these concerns, as privacy and quality are essential factors when it comes to security devices.
    While I agree with the points you raised, I would also like to highlight another aspect that often goes unnoticed. Amazon Web Services (AWS) plays a significant role in powering various technological advancements, including facial recognition and AI options that Ring Cameras could ultimately use in the future. AWS provides the infrastructure and tools that enable features like real-time streaming to the cloud and facial recognition capabilities.
    It's important to acknowledge the potential of AWS as an innovation engine and recognize the impact it can have on the capabilities of Ring Cameras. Especially today when majority of smart devices are using AWS IoT tools and services. However, we must also consider the ethical implications associated with facial recognition technology, as it raises concerns about privacy, surveillance, and potential misuse. AWS, not amazon, needs to be careful on how they handle these matters since it’s on them if issues arise in regards to privacy.
    In conclusion, while we discuss the privacy issues and material quality of Amazon Ring Cameras, it is essential to expand the conversation to include the role of AWS in driving innovation, particularly in terms of facial recognition, AI, Cloud, IoT, and edge options. This broader perspective allows us to consider the implications and make more informed decisions regarding the use of such technology.
    Thank you for raising these concerns and keeping us informed :)

      I was looking into Aqara products and it appears they're just as expensive as ring, etc. Except Ring packages everything together making it easier to know what you're buying. For Aqara, there's a few indoor cameras, a few sensors. I'm not even sure where to start I'd like to stack "burglary system" with 1 main indoor camera in the living area, a few sensors, a doorbell cam, and a smart lock for one of the doors. I live in a first floor 3 bd apartment in a hot and humid environment year round. Price wise, what would I be looking at? Also could you help point me in the right direction, thanks!

    Hi, I’m new to your videos and just happened to stumble across this one, oddly enough, as I unpacking my Ring products. I ordered a Ring bundle, flood camera for the backyard, window sensors, glass break sensors and the Ring doorbell 3.
    I just bought an end-unit townhouse and there is no fence, the rear of the house faces the community street on the side and a trail/woods on the back. I definitely need coverage not just for the front of the house but the lower/upper deck in the back. I live in MD, our winters are not as harsh as other states.
    Having second thoughts about the Ring after watching your video. I want a self monitoring security system, preferably not wired (maybe only have a wired flood light/camera in the back of the house). I have an Apple phone and I like Apple products.
    There are so many options out there and it gets overwhelming quickly. I almost went with ADT initially but it was going to cost me $1600 worth in products and $70 for monthly monitoring.
    What do you recommend, that’s close in price with Ring, but it’s a better option?

    I just received a Ring Doorbell Camera as an early Christmas gift. I hope it is better than what you say. I haven’t installed it yet, but looking at it out of the box, it seems to be pretty sturdy. The outside seems to be made of some kind of metal at least. Fairly weighty too. That being said though, who knows how it will perform. I guess we’ll see. I came across this video doing research on it. Thanks for your input.

    My friend was murdered on the 13th and the Ring video shows a lot from that night...but I don't know if it's just motion or sound activated....but the video comes on, but it's all in clips....like it starts recording a video at say 11:09 AM and shows the date, the Time in minute's and seconds...but one video may be only 20 seconds long then it's over then a video starts say 3 minutes later and it may last 30 seconds....there's no just consistent video that just plays of an entire event....maybe it's because he has the ring door camera and a ring camera covering his driveway and front gate and when it detects the other camera it automatically switches...IDK....I just know he added me onto his system so I could help watch his house when he was sleeping or at work.....also when I watch the videos on the Ring App he had me download and watch the videos the date is clearly there on the left of the video and the exact time in AM or PM to the hour, minute and second ..but when I download these so I can present them to the police detectives....the downloaded version no longer has the date or the time....just a countdown of how long the video clip is in seconds.....say like 28 , 34, 18, seconds and just the little line going across near the bottom of the video, so I can slide it forward it back, to different times in those video clips.....do you have any Idea why it does this....and I do not have access to the main wifi Ring device in the house....it may have been stolen by these people or the wife stopped somehow when his phone was taken from his house by his wife when the left there on the 14th, the day after he was murdered....him and his wife were no longer together but since he was no longer alive, I'm sure she probably took his phone, because all video stops on the 14th of January when I met her at the house to try and see what may appear to be stolen, out of place or just not right, ....so when I looked on the App later on, the same day of the 14th...it says both his door camera and outdoor camera are off line.....I know this is a strange story like off of one of those I.D. TV shows but I'm trying to piece everything together to try and figure out if it was someone he knew or someone hired etc to have him killed.....and I'm just not that familiar with how the Ring systems work and why my Downloads have no date or time stamp....but on the Ring App when I watch them, they have the date and time....any advice you could give me would really help?....I knew him since Highschool..so for 30 plus years he was a great friend.and now he's gone...for good.....I can even tell about what time it happened and people that were there and the times on the app, but not on the downloaded videos I want to give to the police.

    I appreciate this video. Before this. I was looking to get rid of all of my Nest products. I’ve been a fan of Nest since the beginning. But since Google took it over it completely did a 180 and started to put out less quality product. In my opinion. There are whole Facebook groups dedicated to helping people figure out their new Google nest products. Most of them recommend keeping the older nest only brand products before Google took over.
    The biggest reason why I want to get rid of my nest cameras. When you go on the app to view your past video history. The app freezes up all the time. Most of the time when I rewind my video history. It will not start playing the video back to me. It freezes up and stays on a frozen image. I have one gigabyte Internet service from ALO. I am also located in Nebraska. I have one of the best gaming routers on the market. Every single one of my cameras are receiving very good signal. There are also set at a lower quality hoping that that would allow less mess ups.
    This video I watched of yours like I said was very informative but quite a few of the cons that you mentioned with Amazon ring products. I have noticed the exact same things with the Google nest products. But mostly there app is horrible. I think it these tech business giants would start having to pay people back for lack of service then maybe they may improve their quality. In most cases instead of making the technology work better or just work period. They decide to come up with something totally different that ends up being worse than what they started with before.
    If you can please do an updated video on any and all Google nest products and the quality or lack there of for 2022. Including the issues with their app if you have had any. Thank you

    a lot of the ring cams are high quality and well built, and some, especially the indoor wired cams are super flimsy and cheap, but its indoors and i paid $30. The software and integration and ease of use is what sells it, plus at least as far as the doorbells go, if it gets stolen, or smashed as you mentioned by a thirf, they replace it for free. and the recording is still saved in the cloud and app. No matter how well your camera is, idc if its made of stainless steel, if the software is clunky to use, nobody is going to want it.

    Thanks for this video and the others especially your thoughts about how alarm monitoring companies are a waste. I had come to the same conclusion and I'm going to drop mine once I get my home security set up. My first step is outdoor cameras. Then get the indoor contacts, motion, and alarm pad, etc. I have a wired Ring cam sitting in an unopened Amazon box. It arrived yesterday. The electrician is coming next week to add an outlook above the garage so I can use it. Then I watched some review videos and am leaning towards the battery powered Eufy cameras because of local storage (no monthly fees), and less costly for the cameras themselves, which will allow me to add a second one in the back yard. What you say it makes no sense because any cameras can be vandalized. I have ring and I love it. If you are saying there are better cameras then mention them. I have lorex also for my secondary back up system they are also amazing, but do you want to pay someone to run cable Through your attic that cost a lot, Ring is design for somebody that wants to do it themselves that’s what you paying for and the Ecosystem of Ring works with everything point blank!

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 года назад

      Actually, what I say makes complete sense. There are several cameras that are vandal proof. We sell cameras that you could hit with a bat & they would break the bat. So you’re apparently looking at the wrong cameras. Lorex is definitely one of those brands. Lorex is great for entry level installs, but in certain climates, you’ll be replacing those cameras in two years. Lorex is very cheaply made…which leads me to Ring. Ring is 100% designed to DIY, but you get what you pay for. Ring products are also very cheaply made & their products have a high fail rate (proven fact). So that’s great that you love them so much & they work great for you. But as a person that used to install them everyday, but had to stop because of the quality of their products, I respectfully disagree with your statements. As a small business owner I have to sell what works. Ring fails constantly & I can’t afford that kind of reputation damaging quality.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  Год назад +1

      There is no good DIY system with outdoor cameras. You’d have to mix n match & it depends on if you’re an Apple person or droid person. As far as your other question, watch some of my other videos. I answer that question in great detail. I’ve been selling & installing this stuff for 20 years. I’ve been catching criminals with cameras for over 20 years. We have over 4000 customers & not only have I tried & tested this stuff myself, but I’ve also had over 4000 people try & test it for me (all your “average consumers”). I constantly get (or ask for) their feedback all the time. I’m a security guy, not a salesman. I’ve been in the trenches with this stuff. Im not just some dude trying to sell you a product. As a loss prevention manager (my former job) I used surveillance equipment to detain & prosecute over 1000 criminals & the crew that worked for me, we were over 3000 criminals (all using cameras)….good enough answer? Lol

      Above the front door is a limiting shot. So if you’re going to do it, go dome. As silly as it sounds, a dome gets you a little more angle since they are typically a tad bit more recessed than a bullet camera.

    I currently have Ring. Had the service now for about six or seven years. On my plan we operate seven cameras. We have cameras that have completely failed or beginning to fail. I have been dissatisfied with Ring. I am looking into other options besides Ring.
    I can not tell you how many times I thought I had footage only to discover I did not. Once I bought new leather furniture. The delivery guys had no clue how to move furniture. They destroyed our new couch attempting to come through the front door. I just sat back knowing I had this activity on camera.
    I was wrong! Ring caught them walking towards the door, then setting it down in my living room. Totally missing them man-handling the doorway.
    If a package is delivered. I get notified once they are driving away. Ring states it's my internet service. I have had my service upgraded to the most expensive service with the same results.
    I can go on and on. Done with Ring!

    So most but not all, highly intelligent people invent products for you to evaluate.
    I guess someone has to keep an eye on the checks and balances. In order do this it takes years of training and experience. So keep up the good work, without trouble with the small things like putting you ass on the line for her or his invention that took hundreds of hours of work and hoping they do not get sued for somebody criticizing one or two small problems.
    But its all good as long as we have someone with decades of experience to make sure its a good, safe, reliable and cost effective for the four billion people on this rock we are floating around on.
    No hate just giving my opinion of how it works on the internet.
