Orcas were being captured around that same time for theme parks..... they probably didn’t trust any boats in the area
actually the orca capture in this time was in iceland not in galapagos island
The Orcas definitely knew what they were doing. They know what is food and what’s not. It’s hard to know what their intent was but if they felt threatened it would make sense that they would attack or it could be rough house play. Who knows?

@@jamjambo351 possibly. I read more about this but it may be that the sound of the engine may have agitated them because after they shut down the orcas swam off after awhile
@@Christ_Is_Life10-10 oh i see thank's that explains it, since orcas are one of the chillest animals on the wild (regarding humans) it can't be an attack on them otherwise they wouldn't have survived

Lookingforbeansat3a.m I love killer whales. The bull male has a large dorsal fin. The female has a small dorsal fin. Sometimes their fin are called sharky. It shapes like a shark fin. Have you ever seen the movie Orca?
Charles Shelton not on all orcas. Bulls can have 6 ft dorsal fins and females are shorter but depending on the type of orca, the fins can be more triangular than shark shaped.
All things Comic if the orcas were Megalodon chow, then why are orcas still around while Megalodon died out?
Spoiler alert: Megalodon was outcompeted by both great white sharks and orcas
Orcas are still my favorite animal.
Plot twist: The Japanese fisherman killed the same Orcas that sunk the family's boat.
It would have been funnier to say it ended up at Sea World.
The Maru was actually part of a whaling fleet that greenpeace n the Sea Shepard were battling to stop kiling whales for decades

Strange. Orcas generally don't attack humans in the wild.
you legit wrote "generally" in your own comment, implying it's not a definite.
as is, the Orcas rammed a boat, they didn't attack any humans
and on top of that, it's not like most of human history is recorded.
there are no known wild orcas killing humans. key word being known, plus it's bound to happen eventually

Orcas are well known for their intelligence and planned coordinated attacks. They have intentionally killed humans before. Just on RUclips (no actual scientific research required) there are many MANY accounts of this exact boat-ramming behavior. I'm concerned that you confidently spread misinformation that might recklessly put others in danger. Thank you.

This reminds of the family who hit a coral reef and were stuck on a raised coral island in the ocean.
For some reason, I thought it was the wife that fell in love and stayed behind so I was very surprised how understanding and calm the husband seemed to be after his wife just left him and her whole family behind

Wait...their marriage disintegrated based on arguments they had while stranded? That makes no sense.
I don't know, they probably would of seen the best eachother and the worst under those circumstances, maybe the worse had an impact. Maybe all parties weren't content with this idea to sail around the world, could make for bad feelings after it went bad. Maybe it's not true or you could read the books to find out more maybe.

For a former sailor this guy didn't take many precautions. How did no one know that they had sank? Did he not tell anyone outside of the family about the trip? Didn't they stay in radio contact with the mainland?
Thye said there was no time to radio for help due to the fast sinking. Also this was the 70's.

The orca thought it was food then left after it wasn't
They are in the top 3 smartest animals behind humans and elephants (in my opinion). Also, they use echolocation so if they thought it was food they would use it, nothing would come back, so no they probably did not think it was food
