Could this event have been prevented, and what tiny error in the equipment led to such a catastrophic accident? Watch today's new video to find out more abut the horrific tragedy that was Flight 232.

Also, pilots and crew mostly can't see the physical state of the aircraft while in flight. All they knew was there was a bang, a shudder, and alarms indicating an engine failure. You can see the top of the wings through the window and that is all, and that's only if it's a daytime flight. All they have to know the state of the aircraft are their instruments.

There wasn't going to be an emergency procedure or checklist for losing all hydraulics. The plane shouldn't be flyable after that. Hydraulic systems: designed to be redundant
Also hydraulic systems: Do everything on the plane
Not everything.
Hello Kitty Lover Man! whoosh
Hello Kitty Lover Man! It’s a joke, but you’re right, it was a domino effect, fan blade chunk, messed up the hydraulic systems. But engines, APU (pretty much an engine but actually a battery) and hydraulics are what make planes fly. So yes not everything.
They are redundant, there are many redundancies in place. In the aviation industry we have a general rule and it is to practise at least dual redundancy, meaning if one system fails, there is at least one other system to back it up. In this case, there was triple redundancy on the hydraulic system, which is why it is such a rare occurrence that all three failures would occur at once.

@@aaron4ism He made that report before all the pertinent data was in. Engine failures damage other parts of the plane so rarely that it wasn't a thought.
Any pilots whose career is to fly multi engine aircraft will generally have a handful of stories to tell about having had to shut down a misbehaving engine and either finishing the plotted flight, or altering course for a closer airport.
So losing an engine usually isn't a gloom&doom scenario.
And the pilot did the right thing regarding it as he did based on what he knew at the time.
An airplane engine cant explode, this man is delusional. Send him to the infirmary!
*pukes in aviation*
I remember when this happened. It was amazing that the pilots got the plane on the ground; if not for the last-second wing-dip, it could have made it. What was more amazing was that so many people survived. The Stevie B Show I think you’re right. I know that up until the accident at Tenerife flight 981 out of France was the worst air disaster in history and that was a DC10. Why would they? Out of all of the children who died in this crash, as well as the regular passengers, 1 was a lap child. 1. Based on the evidence, it would seem lap childen had the best odds of survival. Why would they change regulations regarding lap child safety if the current one works?

Just want to say, that this is my favorite video on this channel. Every once in awhile i find myself looking for this video to watch one more time
The senior flight attendant and two pilots filmed an episode of “I survived.” The flight attendant’s story really stuck with me as she recalled announcing the safety protocol instructions of the time, which were to place any lap children on the floor before bracing for landing. She later had to try to stop the mother of the young boy from running into the raging fire and the mother said “you told me to put him on the ground and now he’s gone.” It was horrifically heartbreaking and Jan says she believes she survived just so she could make a change in regulations for child safety on airlines.
@Taiwanlight Not understandable at all. She was simply doing her job and following protocol. It is illogical for her to feel any responsibility for something she had no control over.
Though it's no required, the safest place for lap infants is in an FAA approved car seat, I would never fly with a baby in my lap, even if it is free. Don't want to risk it.
