People were so nicotine dependent back in the 1940s they put tobacco on an emergency life boat lol
As a smoker that seems one of the worst parts of being stranded. not having any tobacco on me and facing withdrawal on top of all the other mental difficulties lol
LOL 😂 you seem 💯 % TRUE
Believe it or not, many people thought that smoking was actually good for you back then. In fact, there were even doctors during that era .who endorsed cigarettes.
@@lonewolfaspie475 I don't think that's true. King George got lung cancer and everyone knew it was because he was smoking cigarettes like a chimney.
Being a smoker, you really want one in stressful situations. So if I was packing that kit. Its definitely something I would want in there.
Remember if you’re ever stranded on a boat crossing hundreds of miles of ocean which I know is highly unlikely for most of us if you see birds that in itself is a sign of land. You’re not gonna see any out in the middle of a large ocean.
Unless there are people trolling by taking a bunch out into the middle of the ocean and setting them loose. Plot twist!
@@colorbugoriginals4457 that plot is so American too… Conspiracies everywhere, smiles.
@@colorbugoriginals4457 Wouldn't survive for too long
😂
Yes you can the birds will follow ships and they have migratory routes your, you could totally see a bird and you often hear about it
Unrestricted submarine warfare was bad enough, but to abandon and leave survivors in the middle of the ocean is pure evil.
Hardly the worst things the Germans did in WW2
It wasn’t evil in this case. If you look at background information you’ll see there were cases of decoys pretending to be in need of rescue and then ambushing the submarine crew or even calling in planes to attack the sub while it was on the surface.
Remember this was during WW2.
It wasn’t evil. It was just trying to survive.
I mean, submarines where already very cramped, and food and supplies where very limited for submarines while at sea. And the submarine crew was busy manning the submarine. So they didin't have the space, supplies or crew availability to take prisoners. Remember this is war, and in war providing for your enemy is of very low priority
Blame the USAAF for that.
@@F-4E-58-MC So is USA's fault and not Germany, you know, the country that started that madness in the first place!
12:13 The tree trunk wasn't his first sight of land, the birds were.
thats what i thought too
birds can fly in the middle of sea ( seagles )
Birds can be anywhere on the ocean
@@fal4784 they can but they don't. Not in the deep or middle of the ocean. They can't drink saltwater. They may occasionally migrate through but never go down to low altitudes or hang around like in the video

Now that is a true story of survival. I hope this guy went on to live a full life.
Still alive now
@@ajax4801 No he died already.
113 days alone, that'd drive most people insane...

Salute to his will power!
What a great episode, keep it up. Definitely looking forward to more of these
Great and interesting video!! Much love, info graphics❤️
I really hope that the airplane and boats that passed truly didn’t see him. But what a remarkable story. Man oh man. Strong Will!
I had the wind knocked out of me once and it was far more frightening than it's usually depicted in media
Ha I mean it’s not an uncommon thing. I wouldn’t say it’s all that frightening. I guess it would be if you didn’t know what it was exactly, but if you know what it is, it’s easy to know that’s what’s going on and at that point you know it will pass fairly soon.
I love your content. You always make my day better
Most of these stories end by the person being rescued when they were close to death. THIS Hero brought himself back from the brink of death ans still made it. Unbelievable story......
Incredible story and incredible animations great job
What an absolute legend
I wish they would have figured out what ship just left him there. They should be charged
I thought it was enemy submarines that left him
@@Righteous1ist yea it was but a ship sailed by him too.
I think it was because of a rule that you couldn’t pick up any maritime survivors during the war due to the chance they would be a spy. Not sure if it’s true but I kind of remember reading something like that in a book.
@@josephstalin364 Your nym seems to be unduly paranoid about spies...
That’s not how that works. Many ships that were in a convoy couldn’t stop to pick up survivors from other ships in the convoy because they would be sitting ducks hence why there were “rescue convoy ships”
Less gooo 10mil ur such a great channel keep up the good work
This man is amazing
I love that ending. I hope it helped make life better after
This is why I don’t do boats in the ocean. Even if you don’t go far out still dangerous, a rip tide can pull you to unrecognized waters quick. Or a shark could get you. Awesome video this is one of my worse fears
Wow! this was amazing. Thank God he made it.
Wow very inspirational 🙌🏾
I’m not a religious man, well anymore, but there was definitely something watching over him. Making sure he survived. Great story 👍🏽 .
Jesus loves u
@@nicolasplayz7754 god don’t love black people, but thanks I guess.
Religious or not, there IS some force of some kind watching over all of us. Whether one believes it to be God, gods, or some sort of “higher power” of any kind, there is someone or something that brings order and fate to being and watches over everyone. You don’t have to be religious to believe and see that miracles, or whatever you want to call them, such as this story are beyond are human will or comprehension. Stories like this are only possible with the guidance and protection of a higher power.

I try to imagine how horrible this would be ,but if anyone has never experienced this type of nightmare we will never fully know how bad it really is.

Very helpful planes thank you military
During WW2 my father worked on British merchant marine convoys supplying war materials to England. During 2 separate trips the ships were torpedoed by German submarines. He and some of his other comrades were picked up from their life raft by another ship. After escaping death twice this way, father decided to jump ship in New York. However by coercion he was inducted into the US Army April, 1943 or get sent back to Hong Kong. Father served in Al Levy's unit the 288th (Chinese regiment) Field Artillery Observation Battalion under General Patton. Could you do a story on the 288th Field Artillery Observation Battalion under General Patton? Thank you!
Underrated story
Amazing. A central american Salvador Alvarenga spent 438 days in Pacific Ocean. Fishing in Mexico, his little boat reached Marshall Islands!!! You can have more information in the web!
What happened to the airplane that dropped the buoy and wiggled his tail? I thought he was gonna get rescued then!!
either they pulled the rescue mission back due to the storm and give up, or theyre racist and decided he isnt white enough to be rescued.
this is, what, before ww2 so it's possible. the poor sailors in the life boat was also missing, they must have purposely made the boat they ride on sank, and take the survivors somewhere by diguising to help them...
@@jeanneann3545 That did make me wonder if they called the raft over so that they could drag them under when they left.
So messed up.
@@jeanneann3545 it was actually during WW2. Who do you think attacked the boat in the first place ... ding ding! The theories are they thought he was Japanese who were working with the Germans at the time or that they thought he was bait planted by the Germans for ambush.
My thoughts were that they dropped it to be able to spot him later but the storm came in and they weren't able to find it nor him
@@baxxtab2429 that explains the one that drops the buoy but not the other that saw him in daylight and literally flew over him to get a closer look

Sweet, I read a book on his story. Really sad how he was left out in the ocean by that friendly ship because he was Chinese. Book is called, “Lone Survivor”
"Sole Survivor," actually. I remember reading it 30 years ago, when I was in middle school.
😶Did they make a movie about this guy? His story is incredible!

KING
👑
HE DID THAT.
Disgusting the depths men can go .. the U-Boat crew…. One person acts that way and others join in and then it’s no humanity left.
It was during WW2, the Germans weren't exactly known for their humanity back then.
@@lkez2 hmm yeah U-boats… I’m aware. Lol. Been in one actually. Those U-Boat soldiers were as vicious as soldiers from any war… If you were talking the Waffen SS, yeah they’re a level worse and more complicit even by a lot imo. Fact is, it’s seen in all wars on all sides throughout time and the depths people will sink to, especially in peer groups that facilitate and reinforce the lack of social mores. It shows that those mores broken down and away from a normal society shows what so many are capable of.
@@peter-radiantpipes2800 it takes someone with “unique” characteristics to tolerate submarine life or even enjoy it I would imagine. I would think those same traits would indicate a bit of a mean streak as well.

He actually caught a stark and killed it and drank its blood for some days, it was 2 meters long and also he worked out to by tying a rope around his body and swimming when no sharks were around and he caught the Shark with half a bird and the nail he got from the plank, i read this in a book i got called ”extreme survival” with many stories including this one and one i read about Aron Ralston, the man who had to cut of his own arm bcos he got stuck with his arm in a boulder that weight 360 kilograms!

I know you can get a bowl of sea water then but a smaller one in the middle of it. Then on top put a plastic canopy on top. As the water evaporates it gets caught by the plastic and starts to drip on the other bowl leaving the big bowl filled with salt and the smaller bowl filled with water
no plastics in ww2
Someone say summer vacation … with all them resources 😂😂
Now i'll never ever get near of a boat
