Swahili is actually a Language and not a "People". It's more or less like a Common dialect for a specific region of Africa. Also, Swahili came to be mostly because of the Christian Missionaries that needed a common language to preach. So, it would be quite complicated to have people looking like Swahili ;)

2024 and I still comeback to this video just to listen to it. It was a song at a time when real diversity and inclusion mattered rather than "virtue signaling". African prayer / song composed by an Asian sang by multi-ethnic orchestra. What more can I say.
I am coming back to this video after finishing a very difficult defense towards my degree. A moment before I start my talk, I suddenly recalled that smile of the lead singer. So grateful to Christopher Tin, what a talent he has.
I simply cannot stop myself from tears when I listen to this marvelous song. Every single version is beautiful. You can hear the sweetness of the mixture of humanity coming together in every note.

Thank you for composing this piece, and for the smiles you break into as you conduct -- I'm sure it has cued many of your viewers to smile along with you, just as I have.
Baba Yetu should be in all CIVs games, with the civ you are playing rhythm. Brazil baba yetu samba, Norgegian Baba yetu nordic barbarian choir (alá Skyrim)
They should add an option in civ 6 and all civ games after it in the Audio part of Options, which you can enable to change the menu music to Baba Yetu ; but, by default, it should be something different.
Maybe as a quick motif while loading up the civ. Just a short quick melody still done in the prevalent instrumental style with the distinct "Baba yetu, yetu uilye" tune. Would be a fun little nod and tie things together. Hearing that tune with exotic instruments even for a couple notes would be cool!
That's a very simple thing that you can do yourself. You can go into the game files and put Baba Yetu where you want it. Rename the file that was already there (you can just add a number to the end or something), and name the song you want to be played in it's place the same. For example if you wanna replace Civ 6 theme with Baba Yetu you rename the Civ 6 theme to "Civ 6 theme1" or whatever it is and name Baba Yetu "Civ 6 theme". I believe you also have to make sure they are the same file type as the original.
My lord, this was amazing! You can just see AND feel the pure joy of the choir and band while performing, they clearly love the song as much as we do. All that, matched by Chris Tin's conducting, as you see him shine as bright and happy as ever. Fantastic!

Also, Swahili came to be mostly because of the Christian Missionaries that needed a common language to preach. So, it would be quite complicated to have people looking like Swahili ;)
2:28 The smiles you see on the performers faces is great. The moment when all that practice comes together hits just right and you can't help but enjoy the moment
3:00 gets me everytime. That smile when she sings. Makes me happy.
Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Grieg, Wagner, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky and all the other great ones would be thrilled to know that this kind of beauty still is created to this day. This is true art, perfection. Christopher Tin is one of the few true musicians to live today.
They are probably smiling in heaven, and one day Christopher Tin will join them there.
Ever heard of Hans Zimmer?
@@PeterNichtlustig0815 Hans Zimmer is a great composer, no doubt. But he's quite repetitive in his themes.
@@georgg.5730 Absolutely not! 100% not!
@@PeterNichtlustig0815 Listen to the main themes of 'The Rock' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean' back to back and you'll hear what I mean. ;)
He loves that kind of musical theme and he's very good at it.
I never said he was bad in any way. It's more a kind of trade mark.
AWESOMEEEEEE!!! So privileged to have been in the audience for this epic concert!!!
You're so lucky, peace to you and have a good life.
So incredibly jealous
Who is the guy the lead singer name
@James Kessler Don't know his name, but I know he is part of the Angel City Chorale. He also did a great job performing Toto's "Africa" in another video.
Tommy Lamb @James Kessler
It's great seeing how much fun the orchestra and choir are having with this track! Even Chris is smiling from ear to ear.
Except the flutist, she seems pretty mad that she barely gets to play (at 2:14)
Who’s Chris?
Adhityaa Chandrasekar is he the Chinese guy or the guy singing?
TheBoyScout01 the conductor

All the way from Kenya, thank you for the amazing execution of "baba yetu". I loved it and I still love it 2 years later.
I used to leave the "main menu" open on Civ IV just to hear this over and over while cleaning the house or cooking or whatever. This speaks to my soul even though I don't understand the words. I weep openly every time I hear it. Thank you Sid Meier and thank you Christopher Tin!
Its the prayer "our father"
Thats so cute, when even a choir and orchestra members cant stop from smiling durning perfom. This song give me chills every fucking time. Pure joy and pure happines.
Im fucking shivering, just me?
Nope, still gets me.
Me too. Still gets me every time
Nuke on you!
Inqway No... no my friend.....
get me too, bro.
I think the lead singer actually did a great job of replicating Swahili pronunciation.
fite me
He probably did the best he could.
yeah, they should have hire you instaead.
Juan Miguel Medina Rodriguez lolwut
People comment first, read later
I like how the guy goes from looking just a little nervous to grinning broadly.
God damnit I love this song.
"I'll just nail it like this guy did, and that must be a feels-good moment," I told myself. Thank you to Christopher Tin and this amazing choir, particularly the lead singer, for the courage you brought to me.
Wow I am shivering and in tears after watching this song performed so wonderfully by an international choir! It's the best performance of this song ever
Me too!
The first time I heard this song when I first fired up Civ IV, I instanly fell in love.
A very amazing and special song in my heart.
This music makes me feel not only patriotism to my nation but be honored that I am part of humankind.
It makes me so glad I have God to sing it to, God who hears me! Amina!
The thought that crossed my mind as the camera panned over the choir was "maybe humans aren't so bad after all" 🥹
Our father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, you will be done, on Earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, and forgive our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors. lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory now and forever. Amen
The choir and the soloists are really into it! Everybody moves and sings passionately, this is beautiful!
When you'd start Civ 4 wanting to conquer an Archipelago map but you'd end up just sitting at the main menu and listening to this awesome song
Many, many times!!
aye skyrim grandma's here
Oh man if this is in civ 6 that would happen to me also I'm not familiar with this song is it in civilisation game somewhere ?

Wow that was incredible. Plus it was cool to see how much fun everyone was having while performing.
the natural expressions of joy when they sing, is this what it sounds like when humanity unite? its godly
1:47 I can't stop replaying this part when they begin with "Ufalme wako ufike..." Look at everyone's faces, including the people obscured by the microphone. They are moved by the music they are producing. So sublime!
Even if you have no idea what the song means, it sounds majestic, you can just feel the soul it has. :)
Isn't it the Lord's Prayer in Swahili?
Yes it is.
its mean prayer our father. if i listen this song every morning and evening this counts as my everyday prayers? or i need to consult my local priest or monk
kazys mickus I'm not a priest or monk, so I wouldn't know.
once youve listened to the version made by brentalfloss, this song loses pretty much all seriousness
I love how they're all smiling while performing. They're so into it!
Whenever I watch Christopher tin performances everyone is so happy, it’s understandable
This song represents everything that is right with humanity, to lift the spirit together as one people. We can achieve so much more.
and we will! someday...
This is the best version of this song hands down...absolutely a miracle of music. Thank you.
Stands the test of time as one of the great anthems of humanity. Fabulous performance. So very powerful.
My life was on hold for several years and I only just discovered this moving piece of music, the choir, the composer/ conductor... I find myself listening to it several times a day and before I go to sleep at night. Such an uplifting, inspiring, give-us-hope musical experience. So grateful to Christopher Tin, what a talent he has.
2:32 His smile is precious
His name ?? I dont now.
The joy on all the faces and watching the conductor sing along. How wonderful!
I simply cannot stop myself from tears when I listen to this marvelous song. Every single version is beautiful. You can hear the sweetness of the mixture of humanity coming together in every note.
I love how happy they look to be singing this. You can see how much fun Christopher Tin is having when the first chorus picks up, and that joy makes this song so special.
Going on the average age or the performers and audience, I get the feeling the only guy in the room that knew what this song is from is Christopher XD
Fantastic performance though!!
I went to the concert and I think probably about 25% of the audience were the younger crowd that likely knew of Christopher through Civ IV.
Everyone knows the song is the lords prayer in swahili, even, probably especially the ones of us knowing him from Civ IV.
By that logic my 23 year old granddaughter shouldn't like Fred Astaire movies, but she does :)
Doesn't matter...the song stands on its own, without the Civ references: it's gorgeous :-)
I think it's a perfect demonstration that good music can reach out and touch people from all walks of life. They don't have to know where it's from to feel the power behind it!
For someone that never before listened to a song in the Swahili language i find it very mesmerizing and amazing language in which the song was created.
Meyer needs to make more games so Christopher can gift more scores to humanity
he sold the IP to EA.... so the next Civ opening music will probably locked by a DLC
@@Damienov I thought Take Two (parent company of firaxis) owns the full rights to the Civilization series but maybe that changed
@@Damienov LoL, no offense but where did you get that from? I've just searched for a couple of minutes and there is nothing regarding that Firaxis sold their rights to EA. Besides, Take Two serves as the publisher for Firaxis Games since 2004.
He also did the soundtracks for Old World and Offworld Trading Company
@@lodinuk Yeah it's true, Firaxis/TakeTwo owns the Civilization Series (my dad works for Take Two). Electronic Arts does not own the Civilization Series.
Civ 4 came out while I was still in university, and I am sure I loved the song back then when I played the game, but I feel like I have rediscovered this song today. What a joyful song! I am so glad that the extra 13 years in my life has allowed me to truly appreciate the beauty in this song.
MathIsNot that sounds like a nice idea, although it would get a bit overused.
BobaAsdf
That's a very simple thing that you can do yourself. You can go into the game files and put Baba Yetu where you want it. Rename the file that was already there (you can just add a number to the end or something), and name the song you want to be played in it's place the same. For example if you wanna replace Civ 6 theme with Baba Yetu you rename the Civ 6 theme to "Civ 6 theme1" or whatever it is and name Baba Yetu "Civ 6 theme".
I believe you also have to make sure they are the same file type as the original.
Best CIV opening ever. Civ4 will always have a special place in my heart.
That smile when you know you nailed it 2:33
Just love how everybody's dancing, this song just captured our primeval essence as human beings
One of the most awesome videogames track ever... seeing all these smiles in the choir says it all.
Awesome. I am crying now.
Glad I wasn't the only one. It's beautiful.
anyone cries the tears of joy with them on 2:30 ? I can't stop it
“Well I’m almost done with game design, how’s that theme song going?”
“A literal masterpiece you say?”
My god the lead singer has a gorgeous voice!
My lord, this was amazing! You can just see AND feel the pure joy of the choir and band while performing, they clearly love the song as much as we do. All that, matched by Chris Tin's conducting, as you see him shine as bright and happy as ever. Fantastic!
after 13 years it always good to hear that
Still getting goosebumps. Everytime !
whats up with the flutist 2:15. its like she just remembered that ghandi nuked her.
She was prepping for a cultural victory, then discovered she was sharing a continent with Atilla and Shaka.
She's thinking "yeah, yeah, fine - I'll play the 2 f**king bars you wrote, then just f**king sit here for 20 minutes"
I can't stop laughing every time I see that now.
I was just going to make a comment on her - slow the vid down to .25 it's hilarious
Best comment ever. Iaughed so hard
When the singer starts laughing I realized that this song has reached my heart
This is probably my favorite version of the song. Lead singer's voice just vibes with me for some reason and all the instruments are really clear
OMG! This is awesome, am a proud Kenyan 🇰🇪 citizen and would say Swahili song performed by whites it's a symbol of unity and God's existence. 2019 together as one✌
I am proud to be a Kenyan thank you for that beautiful song
I don't know what made this music so great, but it is !
In sixty seven years I've never heard anything more beautiful. Links human existence to one thirty three year timeline. In my opinion this composition was from divine inspiration.
The smile is lovely and the hug at the end is cute, too.
After all this years, this masterpiece still makes me cry...
this is not just for a video game. it's a true prayer to God, just in the form of song.
Great performance. I used to sit at the main menu screen to let this finish when I played Civ IV. Hunted down the music file from the game directory and have had it in my mp3 collection ever since.
I am a grown 34 year old man, not a softy, I cant explain why this music gave me goose skin and made me start crying.
What a wonderfully developed voice Mr. Lamb has. What an inspired choral group. Thank you Christopher and Thank you Sue
Seeing all those people of different races, ages and confessions gives me back a small piece of hope for this world to come together and achieve something greater than one individual ever could, everytime i listen to it.
Thanks for this wonderful feeling
I can't stop listen to this! IT'S AWSOME!!!
Why does this make me cry so much?
If there was an anthem for celebrating our differences - this would be it.
My wife and I were in a hospital room in Boston with our new baby daughter Georgia, about one hour old at the time, when this was filmed. As a Civ fan, dad, and human, that causes me to be very happy.
This Composition remind me of my native county Kenya.....how many likes for our country Kenya.??
I will give you one brother.
I have watched every single rendition of baba yetu and none compare to the true and natural power of this version. The lead is absolutely unbelievable. Again, wow wow wow to Christopher, spine chilling build ups and pinnacles. Well composed, good grief! 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
My very distant but usually somewhat accurate “tone memory” tells me this bloke might be the original singer. He’s a BAMF, but the charisma of the soloists in Stellenbosch University Choir and Angel City Chorale is electric. 🤩
I love this song since Civ4, back in 2005. It always makes me feel the eternal bound between humans. Thank you very much mr. Tin.
Amazing. It is so epic. I get emotional every time I listen to it. It is fascinating how I have zero connection to the translated lyrics of the song but in Swahili it feel so much more nature embracing and respecting our ancient human African origin. I feel whole as a human and fully connected to everything around me. It is so energetic. Beautiful.
well said on expressing your emotions. never lie to that. thank you for sharing
The amazing singer's smile of joy at 2:32 says it all.
excellent. I would totally travel from germany to the UK just to see a perfomance like this. Much respect to Christopher Tin and the Orchestra!
