Reliving The War takes a look at the Monday Night War - The battle between WWF Raw and WCW Nitro that took place during the mid to late 90s and early 2000s. Professional Wrestling went through an incredible boom period during this time with WCW airing on TNT and WWF Raw airing on the USA Network, fans were spoilt for choice with both shows putting on great shows while trying to gain the lead in the TV ratings.
WCW have arrived to Panama City Beach for Spring Break. Nitro takes place at Club La Vela with the Nitro wrestling ring placed right in the middle of a swimming pool, and this week Ric Flair wants to give the whole WCW roster a chance to win the WCW World Championship. A special lottery (which J.J Dillon tries to rig) takes place and the winner of the lottery gets to wrestle Flair in the Nitro main event.
The WWF are 6 days away from WrestleMania XV and Stone Cold Steve Austin is ready to get his WWF Championship back. This week Stone Cold delivers some refreshments to The Corporation in one of the most memorable moments in Raw history, and Austin also wrestles in the main event where he faces "The Big Show" Paul Wight. Other superstars with matches this week include The Rock, Sable, Mankind, The Brood and X-Pac.

just a reminder that we have something like 2 years left of RTW
Like 100 more episodes! I'll be here for it!
I'm happy because a lot of people are not very familiar with the last episodes of nitro. You know, personally I never liked Nitro very much or at all but I think there are some good stuff in nitro before it was over
@@ohmy4275 There was a lot of good wrestling going on towards the end, but the booking had become so desperate and incoherent. There wasn't a vision or direction after the New Blood angle flopped, as I recall.
We're also about a month away from SmackDown's debut!
He missed the chance to synchronize them to 25 years ago to the week
The Road Dogg shut up bit was one of my favourite recurring bits of RTW - up there with Glacier
It brings a tear to my eye to be honored as a Jam-Up Guy! Love this series!

Wrestling Bios is a national treasure
He deserves to be in the HOF
An international treasure as well.
Brother, Wrestling Bios is a global treasure one nation couldn't handle it.. kick or be kickin
RIP to the Bret Hart shuttup bit. I had no idea there were that many fervent defenders of the Road Diggity Dogg.
It's sad because the bit was hilarious and completely harmless.
Yeah. It was a personal favorite bit and judging from the comments they agree. Loud and obnoxious minority wins again. 🤦♂️
The Road Dogg is genuinely one of my all time favorite wrestlers and I enjoyed the Shut Up bit, guess some people get too over protective ;-;
@@serpentlord2854 real, I knew every word to his intro and would scream it along back in the day. How can people be so butt hurt over this joking Around nonsense? hurts my soul that he caved to them.
notice the only butthurt people in the comments are the ones mad that Ryan decided to retire the Shut Up segments? Also noticed how months have passed and no one mentioned it since? Probably because it wasn’t a massive deal like you guys made it out to be and instead of taking it with class you guys decide to get offended that some people didn’t find it funny 😂
That pool arena in the WCW episode is pretty cool.
The debut of The Mean Street Posse vs. Raven & Saturn reuniting, this has got to be my greatest moment on both shows
Bluedust for me
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin giving The Corporation a beer bath (at 9:11) and the Miss nWo Bikini Contest (featuring Torrie Wilson, with the same bikini she wore when she won the 1998 Miss Galaxy Competition and she would later wear in the Baywatch episode “Galaxy Girls”) (at 15:07) for me too!
can't believe THAT beer moment happened at the START of the show, I always thought it was at the end
also, RIP the Bret shut up segment
Hopefully none of the wrestlers who fought that night, or nobody in the front row are ex alcoholics, or that smell might drive them back to the dark side. regardless, it was epic.
@@iamdb1990 the Bret Shut up segment was annoying, but yet funny at the same time
@@iamdb1990say it aint so
I've always remembered it being the end of Raw too. That blew me away.
No no no no no no please bring back the shut up segments. Forget the haters most of us love it and its one of my favorite things about RTW. 😢
I know! Can we at least get a poll, a say in the matter perhaps?!
If you’re defending Jesse James from the Bret Hart meme we can’t be friends.
That was one of the best things I looked forward to while reliving the way.
Exactly! I wanna know which snowflake around here is getting butt hurt over a joke. I'm gonna miss ut.
It makes no sense in the context of the series. Anyone who watched it back in 1998/1999 would know just how over/popular the “ladies and gentlemen..” speech was. Bret in WCW, on the other hand, was so poorly booked that most people probably *did* want him to shut up at that time.
Plus, I’m sure it was a ton of effort to keep thinking of / creating new bits for it each and every week.
Bring it back!
Bring it back!
Bring it back!
I can appreciate the humor, just not a big fan. I just prefer the recaps themselves.
I'm ecstatic to be a Jam-Up Guy this week with my bestie Joe. RTW is the best wrestling show on YT!
No, No, No, No!! We want more of the Bret Hart "Shut up" on Jessie James! It was cool!!
I remember in an interview with Bull that all the wrestlers were told not to go into the water to save it for Flair. Hammer wanted to go in anyway, and Bull had to stop him.
I was going to mention the same thing, Bull legit didn't want to go into the pool but Hammer kept motioning to the crowd that he was going to throw him in the pool for real. Bull finally stiffed Hammer with a punch to the face to get him to stop and so as a receipt Hammer planted Bull hard with his finisher.
I remember seeing that interview on an old Botchamania.
No, don't stop the Bret Hart shut up bit. It's the best.
Best there is,ever was or ever will be😊
I use it in my videos now!
Don't you dare job out to the crybabies that are offended by your awesome Jesse vs Bret piece, just as you jobbed out to Cagematch.
It's a piece of RTW history that must be continued until the end.
LET'S GO!!! I was only 8 years old and at this show in Albany! I'll never forget it. My dad put me on his shoulders so I could see and we got a little wet haha. Then I put my small middle fingers up in the air to salute. OH HELL YEAH!
After watching the Hbomb video on plagiarism and content farming it makes me appreciate your approach to being a creator even more. Nothing you do feels lazy - I'm sure I am not the only one who notices all the subtle tweaks you make to the presentation to improve the flow and even to change with the respective products you're covering.
Thanks a heap for the hard work you put into being engaging and unique in a space that's full of soulless 'content'.
RIP to one of the best (maybe, *the* best) RTW gags.
Comment "Shut up!" below to pay respect
Shut up! And yeah, what’s the deal with that? Actually annoying as that was mine and a lot of others favorite running joke. Who knew that some Attitude Era fans were so soft over a harmless bit? The loud minority strikes again. I’m seeing nothing but comments like this so hopefully he changes his mind and doesn’t bend the knee to a couple of jobbers.
shut up
9:12 Everyone always forgets about how Austin almost took down the entire titantron when he was pulling that truck out haha
Golderg clinic > goldust, Kevin Owens and Shamrock being buried....that's 21 more wins I've got for WCW on my personal scorecard 😂 especially for that Flair v Rey delivery and match
Austin and the beer truck. Austin and the zamboni. We just never seen stuff like that before. Absolute wrestling gold and Raw at its best!
Perfect timing. I got 45 minutes left of work today and this comes along 😁
Who's getting upset about the road dog Brett hart bit. That's hilarious and creative everytime.
Oh yeah, we are fully in the time period I started watching as a fan of wrestling. This episode of Raw is just iconic, that beer truck, and freakin Vince swimming. I love this stuff and in all these years I completely forgot that the beer truck spot is how they kicked off the damn show, that screams "final shot of the not" but NAH NAH, WWF just gave that away at the beginning! As always, thanks for another week of Reliving the War!!
Oh man, you started in the wild times lol, even tho it's wild it was still better than any wrestling after 2001. Wcw in mid 90's 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Rip Club LA Vela place was popping back in the day!! This video is nostalgia overload. Cin-A- Burst gum, surge, Club LA VELA…. My god 🥹
What?!
People complained about the Road Dog shut up bit? That sounds absurd, those were great.
I think in the Dusty Rhodes promo is FANTASTIC. "We eat at a table that I set."
One of Dusty’s better lines, and that’s saying something.
The beer bath segment. A classic
Back in the day I did always enjoy Road Doggs "Ladies and Gentlement" bit, but I will miss the Bret Hart telling him to shut up on Reliving the War part. Either way you need to have Road Doggs full speech with the Bret Hart shut up part or with Road Dogg shouting the New Age Outlaws part. Only an animal would have neither, an animal, an animal!!!
Oh how I’ll miss the shut up bit 😭
The infamous stone cold beer bath for the corporation 😂 😂
16:50 RIP my favorite part of Reliving the War since Davey Boy Smith retired and there are no more Davey Boy Smith Chinlocks.
I'm in mourning. 😔
The last chinlock
And then soon no more Owen. 😢
@@michaelmcmahon3099 Yup, this is almost exactly two months before the accident at Kemper Arena.
So many people we see in this series aren't around anymore. I try not to think about it too much when I watch "Reliving the War", but sometimes it hits me. There are some multi-person matches where everyone in it, except one or maybe two people, is dead now.
I guess now we know where LA Knight got "Yeah" from...
What?
@@zlinedavidwhat?
The Corporation beer bath at 9:11 and the Miss nWo Bikini Contest (with the same bikini Torrie Wilson wore in the 1998 Miss Galaxy Competition and the same bikini she would later wear in the Baywatch episode “Galaxy Girls”) at 15:07 are my two favorite moments of this episode of Reliving the War!
What is up with ppl copy pasting the same thing in multiple places, you said the thing say a different thing or stop saying things
Nah jk hi
Kevin Nash rocking the FUBU baseball jersey says 1999 😂
I was at this Raw it was amazing to see live and my first WWF show. I was 12 at the time and I still remember it to this day
Doubt it
@@N17Stu cool.
@@CNYKnifeNut what’s cool?
@@N17Stu 2 Cool Scorpio.
I was there too. I was 18, and in the frigging nosebleeds (or as close as you can get to a nosebleed section at the then Pepsi Arena), but I remember it well!
If you’re ready for reliving the war and for Wrestlemania 15 give me a hell yeah!
Hell Yeah
Oh hellllll yeeeaahhhhh
Hell Yeah
Hell Yeah!
If its true that people get salty about Bret Hart interrupting Jesse James during his promo, then i got 2 words for them... Shut up!!
Seriously, what a bunch of jabronis. Bet it was only like 3 people. Everyone else loves it.
More Bret Hart shut up segments!!
Don't give it up lol
The jesse james shut up is what I look for in these videos every time I wait to see when it happens
It's hard to think we only two years away from series ending. The spring break edition of 2001 will be the final nitro.
Loving the series...However!! Is it just me or does anyone else remember the monday night wars being so much better. I feel like everything seems to be a little tame or underwelming compared to how i remember it
It's how I feel, too, and also a little cringe, and a bit of secondhand embarrassment. I almost never watched WCW at all at this point but I remember WWF being nonstop excitement from opening to ending of the show but I guess maybe not.
I watched that Saturn Benoit reversal over and over. Fantastic stuff
OMFG the bit about flashbacks made me LOL so profoundly! I needed that today! Cheers 😊
I think Bret's WCW run was underrated but also disappointing. Its better than I remember but maybe thats because on its own its good, but bigger picture Bret deserved more. Its like ordering filet mignon and only getting half of one.
this is the episode I've been waiting for. I started watching wrestling on this particular night and remember watching the beer bath live as it happened
Oh no, what should we do now, when Bret Hart won't shut up Road Dogg anymore? :(
Thank god
Perfect timing as I take a small little break from work as it's slow always enjoy watching this to make slow days at work more exciting
Opening with THEIR opening promos? FKN Brilliant
Opposed to opening with the ending?
I remember taping this Nitro when TNT came on after Cartoon Network. Good times
9pm on Fridays in the UK. Great way to end a school week.
@@NateMonoxide yep! Raw replays on a Friday night too. Good times all round
I remember being at this point fully invested in WWF i was so pumped for Wrestlemania 15 and i even watched the Special Wrestlemania Rage Party that aired on USA. Does anyone remember that show that aired?
So vaguely but yes
I do. It‘s even on RUclips.
Deadlock does.. check out their review❤
Hey, Julie was just showing her appreciation for the mega star, with everybody saying L! A! Knight! YEAH!
Also, did anyone else have Lethal Lottery vibes with the way the entire Flair thing happened? One of the concepts WCW had that I'm surprised that WWE hasn't ever tried to do.
Sad to see, though, that you made all the Road Dogg marks into....ANIMALS!
WCW knew years in advance. "Guys, we aren't going to win, let's just stall out on 69 wins, at least it'll be nice."
35:45 The timing of the beach ball is impeccable
Vince swimming elevated the beertruck moment from amazing to legendary
Please do a head-to-head comparison of Thunder and Smackdown! It could stretch out your content another year or 2. You only have to go from August ‘99 to March ‘01. Please!
You’re really ending the Brett Hart shut up segment? I loved those!!
Shut up!
It made no sense in the context of the series. Anyone who watched it back in 1998/1999 would know just how over/popular the “ladies and gentlemen..” speech was. Bret in WCW, on the other hand, was so poorly booked that most people probably *did* want him to shut up at that time.

I was very much watching then as a kid. Cracked me up.
Personally, I just watch for the recaps; the running bits/intros don’t do anything for me.
What a coincidence for this to drop this week as I just attended Raw here in Albany NY on Monday
The Rey/Flair match does make me think: had WCW continued on past 2001, would Rey have had a chance at being World Champ like he eventually did in 2006?
It depends on who would be running WCW in this theoretical future. If the Fusient deal had gone through, then I say no, because Eric Bischoff would have been too stubborn to give Rey his mask back.
🎶 YOUR AS COLD AS ICE !!!! 🎵
🎤 YA WILLING TO SACRIFICE 😜
Hold on, too many people bitched about Road Dogg being told to shut up by His Majesty Bret I, and we just cave?? We stop?!
I feel sick…
😢 the road dogg/Bret Hart stuff was the best part of rtw I always looked forward for it 😢
Billy Gunn hiding that Fountain of Youth or The Secret of Time Travel, I'm convinced of it.
Today it goes by the name TRT.
It'll be a dark day when you have to cover the doomed Beaver Cleavage angle 😢
Cannot wait for the next week to see legendary Bret-Goldberg segment))
It's almost like WCW had completely given up trying to beat Raw anymore at this point. I'm really looking forward to you covering the Russo era. Sorry. Lol
WCWs eventual, and somewhat drawn out, demise gives me anxiety... but I can't look away.
Its like a train crash
Just wait until David Arquette shows up, lmao
Lost my job today but was still looking forward to RTW I'm gonna be so sad when this is all said and done
What happened?
Legend has it that both Scott Hall & Kevin Nash had each drank a 24 pack a piece before even stumbling into Club Vela.
That’s more than legend. Nash confirmed it on Stone Cold’s podcast. He and Hall each drank a 12 pack of 16oz tallboys on the way to the club, then a few more each in Hogan’s trailer.
@@zlinedavid hahahaha! Thats right! And they bought the Hawaiian style shirts at some gas station mini mart on the drive!
@@roymartin500 Driving a convertible with the top down, ac cranked and with their shirts off.
Any wrestling fan has zero problems with the visual on that one. 😂
@@zlinedavid So true! Hahaha! RIP Bobby Heenan, Scott Hall and all the great ones that could make us laugh and cry all in the same night!
16:57 as I've been watching a bit ahead, I can safely say that I skip past their routine every time now. everyone is getting into a routine of sorts but the outlaws have been doing theirs for so long with little to no change its insane
"You're not taking my job ya big bastard" 6:20 hahaha!
3:54 surge was huge at my highschool, we had pop and Lipton tea vendors because Pepsi sponsored our football team who was really good for three years
Fun times
I remember this particular episode of RAW like it was yesterday. WM15 wasn't amazing but the lead up was an awesome time.
Every single Thursday I’m always ready for the War.
I didn't mind the Bret Shut Up skits
HEY YO! This is just what I needed. Thank you
This was the night I officially gave up on WCW and went Team Raw. Never looked back
With regards to product placement in the episode, I think WWF managed to beat Rick's small can of fizzy pop (that I've never heard of) with their Coors light deal!
You don't know about Surge?!
R.I.P. Shut Up Road Dog......you will be missed :(
I feel that ‘yeah’ has just become our new regular gig and it will be very useful in the future
Hats off to the blue meanie getting some promo time in the attitude era! Well done!
Never realized the Austin beer truck segment opened the show rather than end it.
I watched that episode as it aired and I forgot that as well.
I'm just going to say it... for BOTH companies this is the worst year of the war... I think they got so hot in 98 that the ratings are just based off that. Not what's going on week to week. I'd honestly take 2000 over 99 any day of the week 😂
March 2001 is approaching. This channel can't end 😢
We should force him to the WWE-TNA war in 2010 😂
I'm gonna miss Bret saying "Shut up" to Road Dogg. Hope you bring it back someday. Great stuff as always.
It's cool Stone Cold and Paul White have the same trunks Whites are just 57 sizes bigger 😹
Only thing I ever watch weekly brings me back to regular tv days before streaming everything ❤️🎅
Oh God, the Beaver Cleavage videos single-handedly made RAW an embarrassment to watch in front of others. Can't wait for Russo to jump ship.
33:40 "Nothing really happens". EXCEPT FOR A RANDOM BEACH BALL THROWN ALL THE WAY FROM WCW IN FLORIDA!
We are getting closer to rhe new WCW entrance
Vince swimming in the beer bath... Honestly never noticed that before. And yes, it make me chuckle. 😂😂
17:30 so the hardcore titles on the line, and it ends in DQ? Russo wrote this
I remember watching those spring break Nitros. So fuckin cool when the helicopter dropped Sting into the ring in 98.
@WrestlingBios Great Videos Sir, Glad to be here chilling and Eating and Drinking my Sodas to Reliving The War episode
My dad had that same Hunting Coat that Stone Cold was wearing. My dad had quit watching wrestling at this point, and was confused when people asked him where he got his Stone Cold coat 😂
shame people cant take a joke. I love road dogg and found that gimmick funny
This is when Vampiro wasn't allowed to wear his face paint because of Sting.
You gotta keep the Road Dogg-Bret Hart 'shut up' going.
I will be really sad if you don't.
This nitro show would be much cooler if that pool around the ring had frickin sharks with frickin laser beams attached to their frickin heads 🦈
