Kurt is one of a kind. He was a wrestler, an actual gold medalist, the guy was a wrestling machine, cut promos, Perc-Angle and most of all did some real comedic stuff as well. Definitely built different.
The fact that stone cold was built up as “I don’t quit” against Bret hart and the fact that Kurt Angle made Austin tap out shouts volumes to Angle’s ability.
It was amazing watching Kurt go from a green but supremely talented rookie, to one of the best to ever do it. He adapted so quickly from amateur to pro wrestling- probably quicker than anyone else. Once he found his stride, he made every match hr was in better.
Growing up, my favourite wrestlers were Mankind and Kane. Over the past few years from watching many old WWE matches, promos and reviews, I've found huge respect and enjoyment of Kurt Angle. Great in the ring, fantastic on promos, excellent comedic timing and not afraid to make fun of himself.
Love how you put Edge vs Angle Backlash 2002 first. That was the match where my 16 year old self took notice of how good Angle was. Also, Taker vs Angle no way out 2006, as well as their Smackdown bout in September 2003. Fantastic matches.
Also, you can't count out the referees in these matches. They can definitely set the pace for how things move. For example, if Mike Chioda didn't referee the Angle/Benoit match at royal Rumble 2003 but someone like Scott Armstrong or Nick Patrick did, it would've felt completely different. Their slow cadences with their counts would've ruined all the energy. No disrespect to them, but I'm glad Chioda was there.
Kurt Angle is my goat idc what anyone gotta say, dude was all around the best in the business at multiple points of his career especially 2002 and 2006 can argue 2003 as well, he even made me learn about TNA when he left WWE and had a couple great years of matches as well
Man.... I will never forget the night of Smackdown Kurt went off on Shelton and Charlie about the, "You Suck", chant and made me a lifelong fan. They were sick of getting the chant, and you could see Kurt become enraged. He starts yelling at them about how the fans gave him that chant. It was his and his alone, and he decided to share it with Haas and Benjamin. He EARNED that chant, he said. He earned my eternal respect in that small little skit. What an absolute legend.
Angle, to me, is the most complete wrestler of all time. The best worker of his generation, he could cut good promos, had very memorable segments, was believable both as a heel and face, and charismatic.
kurt angle's TNA run was awesome kurt angle vs Chris benoit royal rumble 2003 is my personal favorite kurt angle match just because royal rumble 2003 was the very first wwe ppv I ever watched and I still have it on DVD 21-years later after the event aired undertaker vs kurt angle at no way out 2006 was great Kurt's matches against samoa joe in 2006-2007 were awesome the iron man match with kurt angle and brock lesnar on smackdown in 2003 his match against shawn michaels at wrestlemania 21 and their iron man match was fantasic honorable Mention to their match at Vengeance 2005 great video.
I was cheering for Angle and was glad he got the win. Angle had phenomenal matches at Wrestlemania 19 (Brock Lesnar), Wrestlemania 20 (Eddie Guerrero), and Wrestlemania 21 (Shawn Michaels). His Wrestlemania 22 Triple Threat vs. Mysterio and Orton was good, but was too short.
@@Kas58223 I was there. I was cheering for Shawn, a few people around me were cheering for Kurt. 50/50 down the middle. It didn't matter who was victorious, we all won that night.
Need to mention how great is out of ring work was. Some of the promos and storylines had me rolling, absolutely hilarious! Kurt is a legend, one of the best ever!
Great list, all my wwe favorites are there. for TNA matches i would never forget the perc angle era, perc angle vs abyss turning point 08. he can do any type of match, what a legend.
Kurt Angle vs Undertaker at No Way Out 2006 Undertaker is my favourite wrestler and Kurt Angle is who I consider the greatest wrestler, their match at No Way Out is one of the reasons why I view them as such. In short, Kurt Angle countering Chokeslams, Last Rides and Tombstone Piledrivers kept my eyes glued to the screen when I saw the match for the first time on VHS. As for the finish...man, the finish was perfect.
Kurt Angle will always be in my top 5. Like Bret Hart, he could make almost any opponent look good and adjust his style to fit the situation. Definitely one of those wrestlers that left it all out there every night.
Kurt Angle vs The Undertaker at No Way Out 2006 is one of my favorite Kurt Angle matches (and Undertaker matches) that I feel doesn't get enough recognition. Both guys were in top form here leading into WrestleMania and I feel they put on a WrestleMania caliber performance. It's a grueling match with a good finish, Kurt pulled off the pin while in a triangle choke that left him nearly unconscious.
This man has a legitimate GOAT argument in my book. May not have rose to the heights of fame of the Hogans/Austins/Cenas, but none of those guys could touch him in the ring or were as versatile as a character both face & heel. MEM was peak TNA. And I don't think I ever saw anyone escape the ankle lock once he got those legs wrapped around. He may not have had the look or the gimmick of a number 1 guy, but he proved his talent in the squared circle to be undeniable. In my opinion from 2005 to 2011, Kurt was the best wrestler alive.
Much like Eddie, Bret, Shawn, and Benoit. Kurt Angle has so many great matches I knew not even half was gonna fit in this video. Some I would have Included The Rock vs Kurt Angle at No mercy 2000, The Triple Treat At vengeance 2002 The Rock Vs Kurt Angle Vs The Undertaker Kurt Angle Vs Brock Wm 19, Kurt Angle Vs The Undertaker No Way Out 2006, HBK Vs Kurt Angle Iron Man Match. The triple tag match with kurt and benoit vs los guerreros vs edge and rey mysterio etc Tna matches sting vs kurt bound of glory 07, Kurt vs Joe lockdown 08, kurt Angle vs Mr Anderson lockdown, Kurt Angle vs Jeff Jarrett final resolution 08 and genesis 09. Kurt vs angle vs abyss turning point 08, kurt vs jay lethal no surrender 07. Etc
Kurt is my hands down GOAT. Man his short run in WWE was great, but then when he moved to TNA and put on classic after classic after classic with the likes of Styles, Sting, Samoa Joe and even Abyss. To say he had stellar matches with them on top the classics with Lesnar, Austin and Rock. Angle is in a class of his own 🐐🐐
@wrestlingbios I would have put Kurt vs Jeff Jarrett For the personal story behind it And Kurt vs mr anderson/Kennedy The cage match was spectacular and violent Your picks were all great matches anyway Especially the ironmatch vs lesnar and the two match vs hbk and Benoit
Kurt is my 2nd favorite wrestler of all time. Dude was so versatile you could literally put him in a match with anyone and he could adjust to their style or make his opponents look like a million bucks. It always kills me that Vince never let him get the time off he wanted before he left in 06. It’s still amazes me that his TNA run was longer than his WWE run was.
Really surprised you didn't mention that classic Steel Cage match vs Ken Anderson in TNA. Gonna definitely have a look at the Iron Match which I haven't seen yet
The triple threat WWE title match at Vengeance in 2002 with Angle, Rock and the Undertaker is my favorite Angle match. He didn't win it but that match is one of the greatest matches I've ever seen.
I'll always remember Saturday morning in 2003. Kurt vs Brock, being alone in the living room, watching it, and being blown away by what I was seeing. Will always be my fave Iron man match.
The Benoit and HBK matches are classics, but one I'm surprised you didn't mention was the Summerslam 2002 opener with Rey Mysterio. Possibly the greatest opening match ever except for maybe Bret and Owen from Wrestlemania.
I hated Kurt as a kid but as an adult I realize how great he is or was. And funny too, going back and watching the segments with Stone Cold where he called Austin "bucko" really cracks me up. And how can anyone forget him trying to call out Rey Mysterio lol. Classic.
Kurt Angle is truly the GOAT!! Elite level ability in all facets of performing as a professional wrestler! Gifted athlete in the ring, amazing comedic timing, ability to tap into another person to bring a new rub to a character, promo ability on the mic was top of the card.
An amazing performer AND entertainer, indeed. My favorite KA matches that were NOT named in this video: 1- Vs Undertaker at NWO 2006. Awesome one! I'd go as far as saying it is my favorite Taker match that isn't against HBK in single action. 2- Kurt/Benoit Vs Edge/Mysterio at No Mercy 2002 for the first SD exclusive TT titles. Still to this day my favorite TT match outside of NXT's golden years.
One of my favorite Angle matches was when Brian Kendrick debuted on Smackdown and he had to survive 5 minutes with Angle and Angle made him tap with 1 second left. I was on the edge of my seat watching it. Angle at his best!
Sidenote, Jarrett Angle would make a great first video in a series of when real life bleeds into the business WB won’t cover it cause it’s TNA but it’s a great idea I reckon 🤷🏼♀️
Kurt's finisher isnt talked about enough. He made it look so smooth and graceful, he had some cool table and turnbuckle spots with it, and it was unique. Underrated and often forgotten finishing move.
The matches selected on this video are all excellent. I would’ve included some of Kurt’s matches with AJ Styles, Kurt’s match with Undertaker from No Way Out 2006, Angle & Benoit vs Edge & Rey Mysterio from No Mercy 2002, and Kurt’s triple threat match with The Rock & Undertaker from Vengeance 2002
A personal favorite of mine is Kurt Angle vs Ric Flair Raw, 27 June 2005. Kurt was vicious, yet his selling was priceless. Flair was at his dirtiest and Kurt made him look strong. The crowd was going crazy by the end.
Great list! Not enough time to include all of Kurts great matches from WWE and Impact. Some multi man matches that stood out for me was Angle vs Jericho vs Benoit at Wrestlemania. This was a match where each belt had its on fall where Angle was IC and European champ coming in and lost both to set up his first World Title run. In Impact the series with Kurt and AJ Styles vs Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian was some of the best tag action you will ever see. Equally great was WWE having Angle/Benoit vs Edge/Mysterio vs The Guerreros.
The Kurt v Shane Street Fight at KOTR 2001 has been my favourite match ever since I saw it, and I'd only bee watching wrestling 6 months at that point. Thanks for pointing out that the HBK Wrestlemania match is on RUclips right now too 🙌🏻 👀

It's true. It's damn true!
Facts there will never be another Kurt angle. A legitimate wrestler that is as good on the mic
You know I met Kurt angle and it’s true. It’s damn true.
@@sharonlowman8806My Grandfather(RIP) he met A young Kurt Angle when he had hair, He met Em at his Job and said we watched he as a kid and on TV

The fact that stone cold was built up as “I don’t quit” against Bret hart and the fact that Kurt Angle made Austin tap out shouts volumes to Angle’s ability.
Funfact Austin passed out while bret hit him in a sharpshooter.
Never underestimate the hitman!
He went from passing out in a pool of his own blood rather than tapping out to basically rage quitting his title defense against Kurt.
Kurt Angle vs Undertaker at No Way Out 2006 doesn't get talked about enough... very solid match from both men & one of my fav Kurt matches
Definitely this. I always felt like it deserved to be a WrestleMania 22 match. It's one of my all time favorites with Wrestlemania 21 vs. Shawn.
Kurt is in my top 5 favorite of all time. I wish he had more world title runs in WWE. He deserved it
I would say I used to have a couple of guys above him but when Kurt Angle hit the scene and got going he shot to #1 for me.
TNA was 🐐 for perc. Mans was untouchable in and out of the ring
But that's the thing though he may have deserved it but he didn't need it
Had he stuck around he probably would have. It’s true, it’s true.
He had a few runs and had he got his issues under control I'm sure they would of trusted him with another run
All 3 of his no surrender 07 matches are worth a mention. Career high for Jay Lethal.
“ Your mother taught me how” 😂 Love Kurt Angle
That Olympic Slam on Austin looked so good. Looked like he went around the world.
It was amazing watching Kurt go from a green but supremely talented rookie, to one of the best to ever do it. He adapted so quickly from amateur to pro wrestling- probably quicker than anyone else. Once he found his stride, he made every match hr was in better.

To many to count. But the ones with Benoit were my favorite
Yep 👍🏽
The WrestleMania 17 and Unforgiven 2002 matches were great too. They had incredible chemistry!
