  • Using the LCD controller: In this episode we show you what to look for when starting the controller heater for the first time. This is the usual LCD controller which you get with the cheap ebay style diesel heaters. When you first get your heater and get it plugged in, it can be confusing how to fire it up.
    We show you how to:
    - Prime the pump
    - Turn the heater on
    - Change to temperature mode
    - Shut the heater down

    Mine came with a similar controller, but, cannot get the H-off code never came on. Seen on another video where some controllers, you can push both up and down arrows at the same time, hold in and the pump will prime. I had to do it twice to prime mine. Knowing this could have saved me two hours, taking the line off the "out" side and pouring diesel in the pump. It is working fine now. Hope this helps someone else.

    so what is the point of changing the hertz pump rate.. it changes the fuel air ratio, cause it to run lean or rich, could carbon up your machine. How do you know what hertz rate for optimum running of it for a given fuel. like american truck diesel ?

    • @berko79
      @berko79  3 года назад +1

      My understanding of the way it works is as you adjust the hertz up, the fan speed will change, thus drawing more air into the intake to compensate for the extra fuel. I know some people have had some issues with carboning up, but I would guess this is more about the install (restriction on the intake or exhaust) or a faulty product.

  • @Cammo-vp1gl
    @Cammo-vp1gl 2 года назад +1

    I just installed one of these in my boat. On first start it smoked like a steam train and was blowing smoke rings. I realised there was air in the fuel line. Once if fixed the fuel issue it still smoked so I shortened the exhaust considerably and ran it flat out for an hour. Within about ten minutes the smoke started to lessen. I'm thinking the smoke might be from left over 'stuff' in the combustion chamber from the manufacturing process or some sort of anti corrosion coating? I will be firing it up again this weekend to see if the smoke was just a once off issue. Thanks for your video.

    • @berko79
      @berko79  2 года назад +1

      Hey there - You just reminded me I actually played with an extra length of exhaust pipe on mine (to try and get it to exit further from the van). When i added the length mine started to smoke a bit too. I have a feeling the restriction of the extra exhaust length causes the air/fuel ratio to be slightly different. I've never put the pipe back on to test it. The first startup usually does smell a bit but more like plastic odd kind of smell. I have not seen or heard of excessive smoke being like a normal first start I think yours might be directly related to your exhaust depending on how long it was.

    • @Cammo-vp1gl
      @Cammo-vp1gl 2 года назад

      @@berko79 Yeah I'm concerned that might be the case. I have a few bends in the exhaust too (like a swan neck) because of the need to keep water out. I have heard if you extend the exhaust there is a need to increase the diameter to reduce back pressure. But I don't know at what length you need to up the diameter. I've only added another 60cm but it could be the bends creating additional back pressure. Guess I'll find out when I crank her up this weekend. The exhaust was the most difficult part of the boat installation. I too have removed the head unit to prevent battery discharge.

      Yes you can just write a switch on the power or ground wire. You will still need to power it off using the controller as it goes through a routine which cools the heater down (basically runs is with just the fan on for a few minutes until it's a safe temperature)
