I've been looking on RUclips at people shooting with lomo purple because I recently got two rolls and... I just want to say that I've been watching videos of photographers with millions of subscribers and their work is okay but your work in this video is consistently phenomenal and you deserve so much more recognition. Thank you
Lomo Purple is such a fun film - and (at least in my opinion) much more than just a gimmick like some see it. Have fun shooting your two rolls, I am sure you will have a blast! And thanks so much for your kind words, I appreciate it very much! ☺️⚡️
@@KarinMajoka It came out pretty funny written together :) Today I got my first Purplechrome back, also thanks to your inspiration.. gonna upload a take-a-look
Definitely love the motion shots, and anything involving the skull! I had the same outcome as you after I tried this and Metropolis: I thought these were gimmick films, but I really liked my results. I'll definitely be using Purple again soon.
Thank you, Jamie! :) Metropolis is on my list of films to try, hope to get to it anytime soon. And cool that you agree that they are more than just a gimmick! ✌🏼
Hahaha, love the analogy of the goodbyes then having to awkwardly go the same way :) Also, very surprised at the results, I thought I would never try this film stock in my life, but it feels interesting in the right scenarios. Good work!!! And damn that M6 looks SEXY in titanium.
Hearing that from the king of analogies means a lot, thanks Jae! :) I knoooow, the titanium is sexy as hell, even though I have to admit the black M6 also looks pretty sleek.
I love Lomochrome Purple, and now you've inspired me to try photographing people with this film! My cats, not so much... the eyes did freak me out a bit! Seriously though, great video, I am very quickly falling in love with Germany!
Totally agree, purple cat eyes are indeed hella creepy haha. And thanks a lot Jess! I can actually say the same about Canada, a place that has been on my travel wish list forever! ⚡️
Great video. I am definitely going to have to give this film a try. Was also surprised by how well it handled skin tones, well at least light skin tones. I wonder how it would handle higher pigmentation.
You convinced me to try this film. I also considered it a gimmick but seeing your results I am inspired to try it myself. Loved the Bob Ross reference :)
I really liked the forest shots too, but I got to agree the water looks amazing on this film. I shot a few rolls in Tokyo once and it didn't work that well with the grey tones that are prevalent here... That or my lab messed up the scans.
I have ordered a few rolls of this and the Metropolis in 120 format and really looking forward to shooting with it. The lake shots were particularly interesting. New sub here 📸
It must be a lot of fun to shoot it in 120 as well, I should also give it a try one day. Have fun exploring and testing out these lovely film stocks. :)
I just love the shot at 3:17 ! What country are you located? It’s so beautiful! I still have two rolls of this film and I need to get out and shoot them!
Thank you, Tim! I thought it would be easy to guess by my accent haha: I am from Germany. The spring and summer times are perfect for that Lomo purple in my opinion, so you should give it a try. :)
@@KarinMajoka I was attending my second macro workshop and happened to have this film loaded when someone loaned me their Micro-Nikkor macro lens. I had to try it out, and I'm glad I did!
I'm curious at what ISO/ASA did you rate this roll at? I've shot an "older version" of this film when it was first released and rated it in the middle at 200, then under and overexposed as needed. I got some descent results, but nothing that made me want to dive deep into Lomochrome Purple. Now from what I've been seeing from the newest batch of this film, I've been curious to give it a try again. Especially after seeing this video.
It was from the new stock, already in a plastic canister. And I rated this film at 200 iso and always metered for the mid tones. Varying in iso would also be interesting, need to try this another time!
Thanks for sharing. You made such good use of the film. It shows how much it pays off to be informed before shooting the film for the first time. Your cat’s purple eyes are creepy ;-)
Hi there, you're wasting three frames at the beginning. Just make sure the film sprockets catch the little prongs in the middle and the end of the film is in between the three prongs on the right and you can close the camera without advancing the film first. Then you just need to advance once and you can start shooting. The counter should be at -1 at that point. You'll see if the rewind crank moves when you davance the film. If it does, you're good to go. Otherwise you can still wind back the film a little bit, open the camera up again and then start over. On a 36-exposure-roll you can get at least 38 frames with an M6, oftentimes 39.
You are absolutely right! I usually do it that way too, but I guess I got a bit camera shy loading the film and played extra extra save, because you only have one occasion to record it haha. That's pretty useful knowledge though everybody should know to squeeze to most of frames out of your roll! ✌🏼
Hi Karin, really appreciate your videos. But, please do something on the video's quality. It's like a vintage shooting, so flat and sad colors. The content deserves a better treatment. (Story of how you got the M6 was so moving). Hope the best for you !
Hey, thanks for your comment! :) I think colors are something very very subjective and to be honest I like that vintage, pale, washed-out look (I even considered buying an old camcorder for that purpose haha). However, I will experiment more with grading and saturated colors to see how that feels like.
Hi Karin, understood. Your work, your taste! I will follow you a little to see if you'll change that a little in the future. I'm making also some film testing at the moment with my Leica M7 and some Voigtlander lenses (mainly 50 1.2) and this so refreshing. A Sony A7RIV with all the best prime lenses (including FE manual Voigtlander lenses) is my main gear. I'm sure that you have a lot of fun with taking picture and this is surely one of the most important thing. Take care to keep this precious approach for a long time. Bye.
I am not a videographer and there are sooo so many things I still have to learn and improve on, so don’t get me wrong, feedback like this helps immensely :) even though I generally like the colors as they are, of course comments like this inspire me to try out different things, so let’s see. Sounds like a lovely setup you have there, have fun and enjoy shooting! ✌🏼
Hi Karin. This will be my last advice : print and sell. Find a place to exhibit prints and give them a value (a money value). Sell the prints to real people, you can meet and touch, so you will see their pleasure when they decide to put their money on your work: great moments, every time. When you do that, you must be more critical on your work (if you ask the friends around you, they will also be more critical when they know this is for selling). Wish you a very long and tasty trip with photography. All the best!
Thanks so much, that's some golden advice and I totally agree! I have printed many of my images (also in the darkroom) but have not started selling anything. The thing you say about becoming more critical when selling prints is pretty spot on, I hope to get to the point of having good enough pictures that are worth exhibiting and selling. All the best to you too! :)

I love the photo with the skull and also the one with the red roses. The colours are spectacular.
thank you! :)
2:52 WOW that is a really fun portrait, the colors are even more alien with Elena rendered fairly normally. Great stuff!
Fun film - Love the image at 3:17!
It is fun indeed! Thanks. :)
honestly some pretty sick shots.
Thank you, I appreciate it! ⚡️
Great editing and delightful pictures @Karin Majoka :) Keep up and greets from berlin
Thank you, I appreciate it! And love your user name btw (I assume it's just-flash-it and not just-fla-sh*t, right? 😬)

Nice work. I haven’t found myself all that interested in the purple film on others videos but you’ve inspired me. Particularly with those water shots!
kkfox78 thanks for your comment! Glad to hear that this video helped to inspire you to give this film a go! Have fun shooting! :)
Love the look. Gives a cool southern gothic vibe a la Sally Mann or Kieth Carter.
damn those photos look good, not only the film, but im guessing from the leica and lens too!

Nice photos! I think I may need to try Lomo Purple myself. I have some Metropolis that I Kickstarted a while ago but haven't tried yet.
Lomo Metropolis is also on my list of films to try in the future! :) Hope you will have a good time playing around with it.
I, too, thought that it would be a gimmick film but I do like it. I think the red roses are fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

wow 😍 super wibe 😍
Love how otherworldly these look! I have a roll sitting on the shelf, and this video was the perfect inspiration to load it up! :)
Thanks you! And: that's awesome, hope you enjoy shooting your roll! :)
You got a lot of good results on one roll! Nice video and review, loved the humour elements too 😁
Thank you, Hashem! I feel like I am slowly becoming more myself in front of the camera ;)
Great video. I am definitely going to have to give this film a try. Was also surprised by how well it handled skin tones, well at least light skin tones. I wonder how it would handle higher pigmentation.

that's awesome and all I was hoping for - to spark some inspiration! Who knows, maybe some "happy little accidents" will happen 😬
Hey Karin very nice video keep up the good work :)
Danke dir, Elmar!✌🏼

Thank you, Phil! :) My impression was also that concrete and grey tones in general would not look too impressive on this film.

Karin Majoka fingers crossed I can make the damp weather of Lincoln suit my expectations and aspirations for the film(s) this weekend 😬
Please can you confirm what iso was the film shot at? Looks like a low iso

I shot a roll of LomoChrome Purple while doing macro photography at a botanical garden, and it worked out really well. I'd recommend trying that!
That's an awesome idea! :) I was never big into macro, but it would be interesting to experiment with on the film in particular!
@@KarinMajoka I was attending my second macro workshop and happened to have this film loaded when someone loaned me their Micro-Nikkor macro lens. I had to try it out, and I'm glad I did!
So cool! I was so curious about how this film renders!
It was the new can that doesn't have DX code?
Yes, it was in one of those new canisters and as far as I recall it did not have DX coding. :)
I've just shot my first role of lomocrome purple, I like it but I'm also going to explore different developing techniques
I think "Bad Flashes" has some interesting videos on this topic on his channel as for example Bleach Bypassing Lomo purple. :)
I'm curious at what ISO/ASA did you rate this roll at?

Some really interesting images thank you :-)
While this film wouldn't be my cup of tea, you made some very interesting images. The reds are redder than Ektar's reds!
I see why, it's for sure not for everybody and also not right for everything. Lomo should write your last sentence on their box as an ad haha!
I think this film works better in the urban location. Gritty city scapes maybe?
Hab letztens erst deine M6 Videos gesehen und dann erwähnt dich matt day einfach in seinem letzten video. Echt gute videos. 👌
Mensch, das nenn ich mal einen Zufall, so klein ist die analoge Fotowelt also. :) Danke für deinen Kommentar!

Thank you, Markus! I agree, it's always good to be well prepared - but not too much though, to still have room for some own experiments. :)
why its like 80s documentary videos? haha love it!
Thank you! :)
Last time I checked you had 500 subscribers..... as I’m writing this comment you now have 1.03k subs!!! lol
I knew you’d sky rocket 🚀
So maybe, it's you and you are a lucky charm? Every time you comment I gain 500 subs? 🤔 No, seriously, thanks a bunch for the support! :)
WHAT IS THAT LOVELY FONT GEESH :) ??
a motion picture film that uses the logo purple emulsion would be so sick
I agree!
Dunno why but lomography purple reminds me of the movie predators on some of the shots
I get why you have that association haha! :)
