1:27 - Logitech recently released the adapter, which allows you to use the Driving Force shifter with practically any steering wheel, regardless of the manufacturer. 2:56 - TH8A Shifter has the adjustment screw located near the first gear location, on the left side. With the flat head screwdriver you can adjust the force required to change from neutral to any of the available gears. You can actually see the adjustment screw at 3:44 mark of the video.
As a g29 owner if you're looking to upgrade your shifter but don't want to buy an entirely new one I'd recommend the 3drap stiffness and sequential mod. It does feel quite cheap and flimsy but works pretty good in action. Also it's still viable for console users like me.
i love my shh shifter. no durability issues yet and i've been ragging on it for about a year now. i can understand worrying about durability because of it's lightweight 3d printed construction, but i havent even heard stories of them breaking and mine has never so much as creaked. i cant honestly say the fanatec shifter didnt have me drooling a bit, but for 2.5x the money, ill just keep my plastic fantastic.
I race in an Assetto Corsa club. Lots of guys have the SHH and Fanatec shifters. I have an SHH and it's amazing for the price. Hasn't gone wrong in 2 years of hammering it. The SHH internals are really strong plastic and all metal bearings. Only the outer casing is 3D printed. Everyone that has a Fanatec shifter has had problems with build quality and they fail suddenly and either need to be taken apart or sent back to Fanatec.
You can make the Amazon shifter can be made a lot more quiet by putting some heat shrink tubing over the shift rod and applying heat to adhere it to the shaft. I've done this to my Amazon TOCITAA shifter and it's almost silent now.
I use both the Logitech shifter and the usb shiter and the usb shifter blows it away. Good feel and it's tough as nails as well. The Thrustamster really should't cost what it does, especially after being around as long as it's has, that price is ridiculous. Nice roundup, Oscar! (Oh, and I'm steppin' outside and touchin' concrete, city life baby!! 🤣)

I have tried the first 3 shifters on this list, and the aliexpress/usb shifter is definitely my favorite by a long shot. The logitech shifter feels terrible and like a 5 dollar toy, so avoid it because paying 50 or more is not worth it. Don't even buy upgrades for it, because it's just not worth the money (coming from experience) . If you have a logitech shifter and want to upgrade it, I would just save the money or sell it, and get the USB shifter. (unless you don't use pc or don't have a rig to mount it on) The th8a I've tried on my friends wheel, it's okay but it's pretty weak but feels very lubed up and has long throws, but doesn't justify the price. The shifter just feels too tame and doesn't feel mechanical The generic usb shifter can come with many additions like a sequential mode plastic insert or a semi truck gear switcher, which is nice. I use the plastic insert quite a bit, it feels okay but it's super quick to put in. The shifting feel is not all that realistic (you could replace the springs inside to make it lighter or tighter) but the tactile feeling is kind of unbeatable, and banging through gears is super satisfying. I imagine that's what a gated race car shifter would feel like. If you don't care about noise and enjoy very harsh shifting, it is definitely the recommendation for me. I've been using it for over a year been abusing it, but it still works perfectly. There is sort of a break in period at the start then the shifting becomes slightly less resistant and easier but still tactile. Do note that because the centering spring is pretty stiff, it can be easy to miss shift when racing hard, and I would consider buying the 6 speed version as well since it's a little difficult to shift into 6 sometimes and 7th never really gets used As a final note, simracing-pc website does a great comparison of the shh newt shifter and the usb shifter. Long story short, if you like more refined, elegant, better sequential mode, then get the newt. If you prefer to really slam into gears, get the USB one.
I have been using the TH8A shifter for a few years now and can say it holds up well. And if you have a weighted knob laying around to replace the cheap on it comes with it feels much better.
Get a sim racing shifter and DIY it for cheap. It should come with a USB Encoder board and a simple arcade stick, doesn't take a ton of time to do, you just need a box or enclosure to build it in and plug it in, it works instantly. Some arcade sticks has mechanism insider that lets you determine if the stick can move in a certain way (like a 2 way shifter for up and down). Others uses a plastic 'clip' that goes on the bottom to lock the whole module together, you can 'mod' this to only move the stick 2 way by gluing solid plastic parts in the gap so it can only move in one direction, it's not very hard to do if you have those cabinet rubber stoppers with adhesive, and a sharp knife to carve it with. It's usable and depending on your skill can be done for under $30. Remember that racing wheels uses the X axis for turning and never uses any Y axis, the pedals are all using rX and rY which is basically a different stick if you compare it to gamepads. So you'd want to make sure your module is shifting Y axis up and down and not the X axis because the binding in games sees them all tied together as one.
Thrustmaster th8s I actually compared to moze H shifter. Moza is unrealistic that ,,clicky,, feel is bad, it feels realy bad. Thrustmaster much better much realistic. Th8s not bad at all. I know moza wasnt listed
I bought the H-pattern 6+R versions of the USB shifter. Mine arrived with the 3rd and 4th gear broken but I fixed the 3rd gear and now the 4th gear needs to be pushed forward in the slot. The ball broke off very easily. Just in case someone was looking at it. If you risk it and get it, they gave money back for me, so they should for you.
The Amazon shifter is actually a lot more realistic feeling and how it functions. I have chassis mounted short shifter in my e36 and the "feel" of the usb shifter is almost exactly like my real car. I have had a couple of friends try it too and they agree. Best deal you can get for 70-90 dollars. Mine came with a mini button box too. The sequential mode is good too.
I have the Logitech shifter, was going to mod it to make it feel more realistic but after going through the options I’d be spending just as much if I had spent more in the first place. Waiting on my fanatec club sport with the usb dongle for 181 usd with shipping. Not a bad deal with Black Friday prices.
The logitech shifter I’d say is ok but if you buy a third-party shifter and then buy just a normal shifter, the shifter adapter that it comes with will work perfectly so you have a weighted
No mention of the long standing random gear selection problem that creeps into Fanatec shifters. They're great until this recurring problem occurs, then you have to take it apart, perform secret rituals and then put it back together again. Until next time.
I was seeing that around about the clubsport shifter and its something that bothered me a bit so i went with the new Simagic DS-8X because it can flip between sequential and H just as fast or faster. I just hope it dosnt have similar issues or any bad problems. So far the few reviews that are out are very positive
I had the TH8A and upgrade to Clubsport shifter recently. I can agree. That shifter is way better. And the best part is i can change it H, sequential or handbrake with slide of a button. I never used my TH8A as sequential because of the hassle.
I mostly use paddle shifters but for older manual cars I've always fancied a shifter. Tried the TH8 when I was in that ecosystem but thought it was overpriced, I want to like the Fanatec but it's pricey and I think a little soft in H pattern mode and I wouldn't use sequential mode cos paddles, right? I think the obvious absence here is the excellent Moza HGP, H pattern only but one of the best, very so.id and precise with excellent tactile feedback, straightforward mounting (base only) and excellent, all aluminium casing construction. Very solid and mechanical feel. £140, a steal!
I bought a used Thrustmaster T300RS and T3PA-Pro pedal set, so I wanted to stick with an entire ecosystem, so I bough a new TH8A shifter and a new TSS handbrake/sequential for close to $900 CND. I like both, but I do plan on modifying my TH8A shifter to be able to change to sequential mode with a toggle switch instead of having to remove the h-plate. I've been looking around for a major discount (Amazon discount box stores like where I got a GT Omega Classic wheel stand sealed in box for $20) or a used broken one on a marketplace I can salvage the few parts I need for the mod. I kind of like the features of the Fanatec, but I am not a fan of them as a company and, again, unless I found it used or on major discount, I would not even consider it.
As a fanatec shifter owner I think it is worth mentioning that the shifter WILL start missing shifts and generally misbehaving at some point, if not multiple points, in your ownership of the shifter. This is solved by opening the shifter and cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and removing some of the PCBs and adding electrical tape to the back of the PCBs that have the hall effect sensors. One of the PCBs on mine already had electrical tape covering one of the sensors so fanatec is aware there is a problem...thankfully it is easily remedied but that really soured the taste for this shifter in my eyes
@@Michelsen3K it hasn't yet...did it about 2 months ago? I have had lil miss shifts here and there but so far so good...I also haven't been driving nearly as much in the past month so that could be why too haha

I sold my TH8 with mod. It's a ball bearing mod which increase the tension. Instead i bought the cheap ali express shifter for 30,- from sim jack. The mechanical feeling is better. But be aware it's a loud one
I just bought the TH8A for 130 bucks (black friday offer). I think it is a good deal and I like to plug it directly into my T300 instead of having another USB device for my PC with cabling and so on.
I recently swapped out my Logitech shifter. I tried the "amazon special' like the 3rd one in the video. my issues with it were the noise and the side to side spring resistance made it difficult to hit 6th gear accurately. I sent it back and got the TH8A and i love it. There are some mods out there to add some more of that tactile click I might look into. otherwise the resistance and gear spacing/throw is far superior to the logitech.
Just bought the Fanatec. It's the best here but. Wish it was a 6 speed with reverse on the right of the 6th gear. Feels strange to feel the notch feel of 1st to 2nd, makes 2nd feel like 4th. Usual cars 1st to 2nd is so smooth in real cars. Please fanatec release a 6 gear version, the strange reverse and 7th gear ruining the feel. Sequential isn't that great just ok, so temove that too and make a stand alone better sequential.

Honestly the logitech shifter is a fine shifter if you just want a shifter and it gets the job done nicely however don't expect anything above 6th gear
I still have the opinion that a full logitech setup (which you can get fairly cheap 2nd hand) is perfect for starters. Because lets be honest not everyone has thousands of bucks in hand to start sim racing/drifting/rallying and even if they don't know if it makes as much fun as intendend.
You missed SG racing's Sequential for 350$, I abuse that thing and it's still kicking. For perspective I can do 135lb bend over rows with perfect form.
@OCRacing Erp, miss converted actually 235$ for the shifter and 430$ for shifter and hand break combo. The "pro" adds an extra lever thing for neutral, but in the 2yrs I've had it, I've only used it 2 times. 🤷♂️
your gonna have to do an updated version of this one day since thrustmaster are releasing a cheaper more affordable shifter on 27th july. th8s which is mainly plastic
I recently saw a Hori 7 speed shifter in amazon. Its only around $80 and has a sequential feature. Any reason why is this not on the list? Is this a bad shifter or is it just new? I am interested in trying it, I am just not sure if its a good shifter considering it has no reviews from the internet.
I've bought the Frex H-shifter in 2020 and it's a lot better than the Fanatec. I had lots of problems with the CSS because it's not a generic USB device and the software was just trash. After every boot I had to un- and replug the device so it get's recognized and numerous times I had to calibrate it, which is a joke in itself. Also misshifts happened way too often and I broke the sequential spring inside after a few hours Dirt Rally. At least the sequential feels great if it's working.
Does anyone know if the amazons shifter (3:55) works on iRacing? I just got it today and my game crashes ever since I’ve used it and I need to know if that’s cause it’s incompatible with iRacing.
And I’m going back the the Logitech shifter with USB adapter. I’ve never had miss shift with it vs the other h pattern usb on the market. It’s shifts are so intuitive. I feel it’s the most reliable for shifting next to sequential.
I don't understand the prices on some of these things. It's not like they have cooling,a CPU/GPU or even memory but their prices can go up to a chap laptop or console. I find this is the case with custom controllers as well where it gets more expensive than it could be
going to have to update this soon with the simagic ds-8x shifter with 8 speeds + reverse with lockouts and can switch between H and sequential with the flick of a switch being shipped out right now and the Moza HGP Shifter around the corner but no real info on this shifter yet.
well, im thinking in buy a steering wheel on future, probably g29 or g923, im thinking on instead getting the logitech well, i get a generic shifter, i cant "save up to buy a better" because everything too expensive here in Brazil, so, is really worthy?
The fanatec shitty is almost perfect, because the biggest problem is the reliability, the sensors are just not good, every month you have to open it up to clean the pcbs, and if you do it too quickly you can end up damaging it which is pretty easy, i found it impossible to use this shifter for 2 months without it miss-shitfing because of the terrible sensors. Sometimes i regret selling my gated manual thrustmaster shifter

@@mqt5If it had a seq mode then it wouldn't have that price tag.
This pretty much sold me on upgrading to the club sport shifter from my th8a
Moza is bringing out a new h-pattern shifter this month. Check that out as well if your looking at this a bit later 😉
I’ll see if I can check it out!
Hopefully it has a gate.
th8a can be used as a handbrake, AND has adjustable tension to add feel
Honestly the logitech shifter is a fine shifter if you just want a shifter and it gets the job done nicely however don't expect anything above 6th gear
Great video! Maybe one day we’ll see reviews of the VNM and Moza shifters.
Interesting timing of this video as the Moza shifter was released today (one day after this video released). Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.
Simagic's new shifter rules them all. Too bad it wasn't included in this video.
I’ve used all these shifters except fanatec and I would definitely put the th8s at number 2 at least
Simagic gear is also a nice alternative to Fanatec.
Great video! I would've liked to have seen the VNM Shifter V2 in this video as well.
Thanks! I tried my best to gather as many as I could for this video but never heard back from VNM :/
Ssh one looks probably the best of them all even though not the best but allso way cheaper than most.
you can CHAND THE RISTENCE ON A THRUSTMATER TH8A SHIFTER
Very good video, helped me make my decision, thanks👍
i just ordered a simagic one q1s for rally has a neutral switch too. 239 for a short handle and like 270 got a long handle cant wait
Awesome! Let me know how you like ot
Awesome guide! Me voy al monte mae😅
I still have the opinion that a full logitech setup (which you can get fairly cheap 2nd hand) is perfect for starters.
Because lets be honest not everyone has thousands of bucks in hand to start sim racing/drifting/rallying and even if they don't know if it makes as much fun as intendend.
because you get a 3 pedal setup and you can get a cheap shifter aswell.
and if you're on pc you dont need to look for compactabilities :)
Really good video for a people that are thinging about what to buy.
Cool video.
logitech FTW ive modded mine into a sequential and an aftermarket shaft. it works so good
Glad to hear! Cheers
That $70 shifter is REALLY good. If I don't win one from you, I'll certainly buy one. But the black version instead.
Best of luck 🫡
I got the th8a for like 10 bucks 50 with wheel 3 pedals and shifter just oedeeed a cable to connect to the wheel
I rarely miss shift on the logitech shifter and it feels fine for me. Maybe its just because I am so used to it.
Question on this list where would you rank the moza hgp shifter?
In my country the g29 costs 80 usd and the TH8A costs 350-425 usd, damn import taxes
The Moza $150 USD shifter not listed in the video is the best for me
You missed SG racing's Sequential for 350$, I abuse that thing and it's still kicking. For perspective I can do 135lb bend over rows with perfect form.
Never heard of it, interesting! I’ll check it out now
@OCRacing
Erp, miss converted actually 235$ for the shifter and 430$ for shifter and hand break combo.
Just getting started into the sim drifting/racing world. Where would you place the thrustmaster th8s on this list?
I recently saw a Hori 7 speed shifter in amazon. Its only around $80 and has a sequential feature. Any reason why is this not on the list? Is this a bad shifter or is it just new? I am interested in trying it, I am just not sure if its a good shifter considering it has no reviews from the internet.
How do you feel about the Moza Shifter?
I've bought the Frex H-shifter in 2020 and it's a lot better than the Fanatec. I had lots of problems with the CSS because it's not a generic USB device and the software was just trash. After every boot I had to un- and replug the device so it get's recognized and numerous times I had to calibrate it, which is a joke in itself. Also misshifts happened way too often and I broke the sequential spring inside after a few hours Dirt Rally. At least the sequential feels great if it's working.
Interesting! I’ll see if I can get my hands on the Frex shifter!
@@OCRacing The Simagic H-shifter+ looks like a good contender, also from the price🤔
I wanna know how the Moza shifter compares to the Ebay shifter and Fanatic shifter.
Thrustmaster now sells a cheaper version of that shifter the TH8S
what is the best shifter for ps5 i need to know!!!
Does anyone know if the amazons shifter (3:55) works on iRacing? I just got it today and my game crashes ever since I’ve used it and I need to know if that’s cause it’s incompatible with iRacing.
As long as you’re on PC, you shouldn’t have any problems using it on iRacing
And I’m going back the the Logitech shifter with USB adapter. I’ve never had miss shift with it vs the other h pattern usb on the market. It’s shifts are so intuitive. I feel it’s the most reliable for shifting next to sequential.
There's no way the th8a is in 5th when it has mods and upgrades that make it easily rival the club sport
Would I be able to mix a Logitech wheel and different shifter to it with the Logitech adapter? Or an adapter?
I don't understand the prices on some of these things. It's not like they have cooling,a CPU/GPU or even memory but their prices can go up to a chap laptop or console. I find this is the case with custom controllers as well where it gets more expensive than it could be
I wanted to a make a senna sim setup, any got any ideas on which sequential shifter to get? 😅🙏
Really impressive video. Keep up the good work.
So do any of these work on the Logitech besides the Logitech
can you do the same video tho with handbrakes
going to have to update this soon with the simagic ds-8x shifter with 8 speeds + reverse with lockouts and can switch between H and sequential with the flick of a switch being shipped out right now and the Moza HGP Shifter around the corner but no real info on this shifter yet.
I’d like you to give a try on a Sim Jack shifter. They just released one that looks similar to #1 ^^
Im also curious, it looks interesting
Moza Racing HGP Shifter, is it good?
well, im thinking in buy a steering wheel on future, probably g29 or g923, im thinking on instead getting the logitech well, i get a generic shifter, i cant "save up to buy a better" because everything too expensive here in Brazil, so, is really worthy?
2:07, where do u find the mods???
You should really do a review of the Aiologs sequential shifter.
Question, does the Amazon shifter have any like adapters for Xbox because I would love that but I don’t have a pc, only Xbox
Did you already put some tape on the backside of the pcb? Check YT for fix
@@Michelsen3K never thought of that, do you have a step by step on how to do it?
What about the simagic, quaife, and simvertex shifters?
my answer before watching the video:
if im broke imma try getting g25 shifter because u acn switch modes
