ME : damn.
My thought process exactly
Basically a digital version of Bob Ross
Right? His art process is mind boggling and fascinating!
blobs = composition work
is amazing.
This is exactly the kind of art that I’m so drawn to and infatuated with so gorgeous
Thank you 🐻🌈
Hahaha puns:)
I'm 71 years old and have only been creating art (acrylics, colored pencil, digital media) for less than 20 years. Your musings on creativity, loving your art, and allowing yourself to be who you are through your art are most helpful. Thanks for this tutorial.
i hope you’re doing well!
I understand that being critical of one's own craft might be part of what fuels improvement, but, when you're at the stage where you are 'loving your art', to me, that is a magical feeling. I don't paint but have been creative in other ways and when you have that moment where you are amazed at what you just created, well, I think that should be celebrated. I suspect that most people started art because they wanted to reproduce that sense of awe and amazement they felt when looking at other people's artwork, so eventually they are going to be the artist producing the awe inspiring and amazing work. When it happens enjoy it, to the full. It's inspiring to see you enjoying your work so much.
Ikr! It’s such a beautiful feeling of satisfaction..
This is so well said !
Now I amazed by your comment lol
Oh man, absolutely! I still have a long way to go until I’m at the level I one day want to reach, but I still finish a piece every now and then and feel borderline euphoric seeing it come together and knowing that my hours and hours of practicing have gotten me to a point where I create something good. Not great maybe, but still actually decent. It’s the best feeling and a fantastic motivator 😁
ik wat u mean, it's kinda the same with writing. You'll pour ur heart & being into a draft, only for u to read over it and feel like a little kid pretending to be a writer and failing miserably. But there are time wen u just get it right and you'll re-read that one paragraph u wrote and think "Damn I did that?!" It's the best feeling ever, like it somehow validates u in a way.
I love this guy. "The old style was bad for my mental health, and I need to take care of myself" is a huge theme in my life, and I love it.
I showed my grandma the finished piece when I first saw it on twitter and she LOVED it. Like, stared at it for a few minutes just taking it in, pointing out all the things she loved about it. This will be so cool to show her, now!
I love the cat illustration in your avatar 🌸 please say hi to your grandma from me, thank you both for taking a moment to see my art :)
After 20 min every second I thought he finished his painting
Sometimes it’s hard to stop when you get over that initial hill of “I have no idea what I’m doing”. The steep part is the only part where quitting is easy.
angrymikko this is real.
@@angrymikko do u like neon blue light?
Exactly! We have cameras for photoreal stuff, the point of painting is to convey more than just what you can physically see, but how humans think and feel
That's a beautiful thought
"you don't need my brushes, the bushes in procreate are free" WOW. so so talented but im so impressed with how you didnt try to sell us anything
@@annaku_wantsyouuuuuuuu can't you just make the brushes yourself anyway? or are they like those brushes were it makes like a tree branch or grass ?? still tho you can make them yourself but you have to learn first ofc
not only that but not providing brushes proves that you dont need a certain brush to get this type of result.. of course finding a brush ur comfortable with helps but it pushes the viewer to get comfortable with themselves because when something doesnt work out its easy to blame a brush.
@@annaku_wantsyouuuuuuuu That example though : , :p
Your paintings made me feel nostalgic?? It’s hard to explain but its beautiful 😌
I’m kind of ancient tbh ⏳
It kind of reminds me of howls moving castle its an anime movie really good can recommend
You can tell the house has a history and a story and a significant impact on the owner it’s isolated from the world
Lucas Randall Yes, that’s came to my mind too when seeing it in click screen🙂
@@angrymikko ancient? hahaha you made my day
it’s crazy how you start with blotches of color and still somehow manage to visualize what you wanted and create it into a beautiful work of art. i wish i had this kind of skill
I really love how you not only walks us through your art but also the thinking behind it
Mm
I agree with you. I am curious about the thinking behind such excellent painting.
Yes! Me too :)
thank you for sharing your process! Digital art still feels very mysterious to me ^^
Art is very mysterious. Painting itself is a pretty shallow pool next to it.
@@angrymikko fair enough! Let's say I'm used to paddling through the mystery of art, but not at all the mystery of digital painting ^^
I've been doing digital art for over a decade and it still kind of feels like that to me. I just discovered alpha lock, like, yesterday
@@Stitchpuppy01 pls teach ur ways
I love how you always come with a story and an advice for us. You're the best!
I always thought I need a fancy publisher to do a story I wish I could travel back in time, give the old me a good hard slap and tell myself to start a channel already 💪
@@angrymikko I think maybe I should take your advice...I really liked the things you said in this video and it’s my first vid I’ve seen of yours. Thank you for not making me feel like I need to buy anything, you see people selling their brushes so much that you ask yourself...”do I need that too?” Wonderful flow in this video, visually and verbally, thank you again :) I look forward to hearing more from you !
I've been doing traditional art for years and just tried procreate for the first time today! I randomly clicked on this while searching tutorials and I'm so glad I chose this video. So inspiring to watch your process and hear you talk. I'm excited to get into digital art now! Amazing work!
This is literally one of the best digital paintings i've ever seen in my whole life. You're incredible talented, your work is wonderful
Came here for a painting tutorial, left crying for the "don't loathe your art, do what you like and let your creativity take control" message, thank you, I have been stuck for a while and really needed to hear it.
This is STUNNING. I am awed by your talent, Mikko! I loved your talk about your imagination - reminds me of Elizabeth Gilbert’s “Big Magic” and her theory of ideas as conscious beings...I’ve also read a lot about how a “muse” (just like a creative strike of imagination) is a sentient being, separate from us, and graces us with masterpieces if she likes the collaborator/artist...so yeah just really loved that talk and the whole thing really~ Thank you!!
ahem ashutthefuckup
@@dustbuster8669 why are you targeting her? All she is doing is complementing the artist
@@julietteboreas6631 they mad bc they cant even draw stick people lmao

Not talent
I am very sorry, Mikko, that you went through the continual traumatic stress of creating dark game art. I worked for several years as a forensic technician and I saw thousands of things that no human should experience. But I had a Dr. Frankenstein sized master switch on my emotions that I turned off at every crime scene. And it was tough to keep that switch off. As for my gaming life, I have never liked violent games. And now, they are just like more horrible work. I am glad that games like Animal Crossing (and my all time defunct favorite, Glitch) are out there to bring us beautiful and cute. We need more of that. So thank you for bringing us the good light! And may it bring you good work.
Amazing to hear you talking through your feelings as well as your process. Thanks for doing such a great job at sharing your mind as well as your art. Brilliant.
I've been loving your videos lately! This one really spoke to me. When you shared about how much you love and enjoy your work now, and how it's okay to love what you paint, was just so positive and awesome. Also, your thoughts on having time to try many different styles of painting was reassuring and insightful! Not to mention this painting is one of the prettiest things I've seen in weeks. Cheers to you and your immense talent!!
When I first saw the picture, it reminded me of Howl’s moving castle. A more beautiful version of the castle. You’re amazing!,
I’m so thankful for all your videos. They are so informative and insightful which really helped me in my procreate journey
I really wanted to make a quick painting with a fast video but this painting idea had another angle to what we’re doing. It won \o/
If my creativity is reading this I’d really love a fast and loose 2hour painting right about now. (Just a suggestion) 🌷
You have helped me understand what has hung me up and hurt me about my own art for so long. Your past and your process through dealing with your artistic journey, while not the same whatsoever, mirrors mine in terms of what my mindset about it was and how I was hurting it.
I've been just discovering how important these things, these artistic concepts behind brush strokes and dedication and the mindset/environment around your work, are, and so hearing you essentially speak MY mind has been an amazing discovery. Thank you for helping me feel assured in my thoughts and I'm glad I'm not alone in what I had preciously thought was an insurmountable struggle.
I love your emotional and psychological guidance in the creative process. These are things I tell myself often but I keep needing to hear it! Your skill and understanding of drawing is awe-inspiring my friend.
A lot of the self-talk I need to do during painting is stuff I learned from running. Doesn’t matter how many years you do it. The same self-talk will still be helpful with each painting.
Creative fears never really go away. You just get prepared for them to show up because they always will.
Your commentary in this video meant a lot to me as someone just learning digital art, so thank you so much. Seriously beautiful piece!
Thank you. Have patience and start with simple subjects. Try to find the fun in the process as early as possible and you’ll be unstoppable 🐻💕
this painting honestly feels like a dream... everything is so beautiful, the colors, the sky, the cozy lights in the house, the tree blossoms... you did an amazing job, and i'm inspired to do some drawing now :)
At first, I thought this was going to be a regular timelapse with no commentary. But you honestly provide so much more to the video and your philosophy really resonates with me. I love the small tips that pop in and out. Keep up the great work, subbed!
The artwork itself plus the music background just made me feel emotional.
I love the enthusiasm in your voice when you talk about what parts you're excited to paint.
Wow. Just wow. The complexity and layers. I see it, but I can’t comprehend it. Lol
I feel like he blotched colors for inspiration first, then did shapes for the house, then spend time figuring out the perspective of it, where it is, then the colors... and details!
xEtherealWings lol for sure. He’s just really talented. I meant that I see the process and even so, it doesn’t mean I can recreate it in the same manner. Just mad talent.
Love this process and the thoughts you shared. I started to cry at the end because I’m in such a depressed place with my work that I’m always too tired to be creative and I was watching this at the end of a pretty rough day while trying to find something creative to relax with. I loathe my own creative work no matter the good things others say but I think I’ll take your advice and do it for myself. Thank you for this video.
Watching your paintings have inspired me to start my own journey into art so thank you!
It's comments like yours that make all the work on these videos worth it. =) Thank you for taking the time to write this.
That is what art was always about, free flowing, from the heart and doing what you love. I promise you those will be your best pieces.
I’m so infatuated with how you create a chaos of scribbles and then it’s like out of nowhere a beautiful structure forms lol
Yes! Using the same techniques as paint and bringing it into a digital space :) the same concepts :) it’s wonderful how art can translate over different mediums
Absolutely gorgeous. Fave colour combo.
"Anyone who says I need to love my paintings less, I say you need to love your paintings more"
"I went through that self loathing phase and it didn't make my art better at ALL"
really important messages there
This has been the most calming 30 minutes of my 2020.
It's absolutely breathtaking how this came out. You're skills are beyond amazing, I hope one day I can reach the level you have managed to reach
Your paintings are always so inspiring. I love that they all have a backstory/process/challenge involved. 😍
agree with you!!
i got goosebumps at the final result which does not happen very often. incredible work.
lovely painting and very enjoyable video - thanks :)
I love your channels content!
The way you take random blobs and make a entire enchanting work of art is inspiring to me the colors are soft yet nostalgic and reminds me of a fairytale absolutely amazing.
29:34 - “and as always there is no black in my paintings...”
Wow you just completely shifted everything I thought I knew about painting. Im definitely subbing 🙏🏾 love the art BTW
This was so beautiful! I loved your transparency as an artist I really appreciated the truths about your art that you shared. I was genuinely moved when you said you were just over painting things/styles that weren't of value to your life anymore. So brave! The painting itself was incredible!
Wow, i have been following this channel since around the beggining, and it`s very pleasant for me to see such a progress in your artworks. Keep working hard)
I love how your voiceovers not just talk about your process but also your life experiences and wisdom about art and creativity.
Your workflow looks really relaxing, like you’re just exploring the composition as you go
I get bored easily so I just want my painting to surprise me. If I plan the whole thing _too_well then i'll feel like I've already done the painting before it's even finished. That just doesn't excite me as much.
I love how rational your explanation of both your creative work and professional work is. Obviously your art is not simple, but your reasoning and processes are so practical and understandable.
I love it. I'm still new to digital painting, and trying to wrap my head around the whole process, trying to accept brush strokes as texture. Even as a traditional artist, I'm always smoothing out brush strokes for a smooth shading. :D
It’s kind of an old video but there’s one called “Brush Strokes advanced tutorial”.
While the audio stuff is something I can do better these days the information itself is still what I go by in all of my paintings.
I really did not expect that gem of a conversation when clicking on the video. Loved to hear that emotional retelling of your experiences with the violent side of the industry. I agree and appreciate that perspective so much. It really is sad the draw people have to violence and darkness. Anyways, your illustration really brightened my day and was inspiring.
Thank you for stopping by my small channel :) As challenging as freelance is, I still think the ability to paint what I want is the most valuable thing I have right now.
Vine de UN POCO DE TODO, Y WOW, me encanto tu arte, de verdad felicitaciones por tan bello trabajo
x2
Wow - I genuinely was interested/engaged listening and watching you during the whole video! I love what you said about skipping the self-loathing and giving yourself permission to enjoy your own art! Thanks for that!
This is a freaking masterpiece 😱 marvellous work i’m loving it!! Keep up you are amazing ♥️
I love that we know the passion and emotion you poured into this painting. It really shows .
My mind tells me: yes you can draw the same! my hands say no , you cannot !
If I listened to my hands all day several people would have been slapped during this week already, they're not to be trusted >__>
angrymikko I’m laughing so hard right now😅 Amazing painting by the way! Love your art
I feel you
Really need your brush
just let your imagination guide your hands and you'll be surprised how capable you really are
I’ve never had a favorite artist before, but I think that has changed... All of this person’s art is just on another level of amazing. Any good words I can think of to describe this just isn’t enough.
Did I really just watch 30 minutes and 52 seconds of a man speaking poetically and artistically while drawing on his iPad?
Well, yes, actually.
It’s comments like these that trigger my impostor syndrome. Like I somehow hacked into the account of a real youtuber.
Thank you 🐻💝
A year later you’ve inspired another soul to start their journey into art. Thank you for sharing this you are truly talented.
This painting gave me the Japanese animation vibe
“Perfect for lofi music background”
Yeah, I love my work and get excited to make more of it. Even when I don’t quite capture something the way I’d hoped, I’m always thrilled to have stumbled through it because the next time I try something like it, I’m already way ahead where I was before. Love your work, folks, and be proud of it! Don’t apologize for loving it, either! Being proud is cool. Like.... fez cool.
Hi! Just quickly, how does your Ipad not detect your palm when you draw? I'm also using the ipad pro 12.9 and I have to wear a drawing glove because procreate thinks I'm pinch zooming but it's just the side of my hand leaning on the tablet... lol. Is there a setting for this? Thanks :) Amazing work by the way, I've subscribed.
CHeck settings, there will be option of palm rest
Learn so much watching you paint and hearing you wisdom. It's a joy to hear you light up when your painting lights up!
I wish I knew what I was doing.....I cant seem to get the "painting" feel to my artwork.
ScubaTal Bowling Ugh me too!
This video was basically filled to the brim with ambience and advice. Thank you.
!!!
First I thought it's a house in woods
Then it turns to a tattered house for zombies
In the end, I know it's a house for fairytale...
>>>>>> It's soo beautiful too!!!!!!
Just wanted a give a shout out to not defining yourself by one style. The painting is amazing but I found the most value in this video from your words about handling yourself as a professional artist and not letting the status quo mold you into something you aren't artistically. Love it man.
This looks like Burrow from Harry Potter
army_bricks studios honestly yeah! It looks really homely and cosy as well. Could’ve been good Harry Potter fan art!
I love this channel imagine finding an artist with the same art style is priceless I learn a lot with your videos thank you for uploading this
.
I love your process! From abstract concept to representational art
Incredible!
I never even thought how making all the dark and violent art for games affects the artists, thank you for shedding some light on it.
I wish there were more bright and happy looking games. The popularity of francises like Zelda and Mario definitely show there is plenty of market for them.
Mario has always been popular but it doesn’t mean other companies want to compete in the arena of 3d platformers. What I’m happy to see however are all these new indie games that are focused on chill unique experiences. They have really changed the landscape of gaming in the last 3 years. If you don’t want to shoot things in the face there are so many options now that didn’t exist at this scale 10 years ago.
This video taught me to trust the process :) i always end up deleting it at the beginning instead of seeing it blossom into something as beautiful as this
I really enjoyed this. Such a beautiful painting and amazing to see what goes into it. I think this video popped up because I just got an iPad and iPencil and started painting on Procreate. It was really a relief to hear you say students need to simplify and focus on one technique or one brush, because I was completely overwhelmed with my first attempts at digital painting. Thank you for the pep talk. I will definitely watch more of your channel. You motivated me to complete my thousand paintings (or at least try).
I think volume is the best target for art students. Also to train your social media skills I highly recommend you post everything you do to some online gallery. It's just as important of a skill and overtime it will help you deal with (sometimes unkind) people. I hope you enjoy painting with the iPad, I wish I could have started with something so convenient. Also it's definitely easier to paint everywhere with it.
Don't worry about brushes. I wouldn't even recommend buying my brushes if it creates further confusion. I've used the free default procreate brushes for dozens of paintings. Most of them are really good the way they are.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Watching one of your videos is like watching a truckload of inspiration, imagination, techinque, and wonder. I love how every painting unfold beautifully and quickly. You have given me the power to do the painting that i am currently still working on, a forest scene, tank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Such a beautiful piece, thank you! I appreciate you talking about your struggle with being happy with the work you were doing. There are strong analogies in music, if not worse. It can be so hard to sit down to create when there are such dark expectations holding you back.
I love this combo of voiceover + video + text tips. So engaging!
You inspire me to learn how to paint. I don’t have any background in fine arts. I’m a nurse in the Philippines. It’s been along time since I aspire to become a graphic artist. I wish I could be good as you someday. I just bought the Procreate app. I’ll practice every day and study using your videos. Thank you much!
I love how you emphasized that you should love your work! If not you, then who? That is so important and such a wonderful message to share with your audience.
Really beautiful painting and story. Glad to hear you are not bogged down by negative imagery anymore. 😌
I too am always the person who notices the sky! Your painting is truly beautiful
Thanks for giving some emotional thoughts... It helps me a lot to get out from drowning.. Hope you do more of this works, more project and ideas to come!!!
Totally understand about your stance working commercially on dark and violent project to now vibrant colorful happy painting. I was an illustrator for numerous horror and RPG games over my commercial career. When I when into fine art it was completely opposite to what I had illustrated for years!. Beautiful work. I am just starting to get into digital painting. I am apprehensive though because I really like the physicality of brush to paint to canvas. but have heard super thing about Procreate and now see its diversity! Thank you.
Thank you Mikko. I have slowly begun to realise how much I am dependent on stamp brushes. And you are correct. When you stop using stamp brushes, it gives more artistic expression to the same thing. I have recently started doing watercolor art in procreate and I have realized that with limited brushes, I can achieve multiple types of effects only because of I control my pressure or transparency.
Welp, I'm tearing up over your narration. Needed to hear all of this, especially "I hope you go and paint with whatever colors you feel like using today"...simple and necessary to hear. Thank you.
Dude! That’s an instant subscribe. Super talented. I’m a painter and I’ve really been wanting to get into more digital/vector art lately so I just bought a new iPad and Apple Pencil. The freedom is amazing and I’m blown away at what I can accomplish with just a week of learning and my mediocre skills.
I recently picked up art again since my health has drastically changed my ability to be a performer. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this! I'm having one of my health flare ups today, and frustrated with learning to use procreate. Your tips on following your own artistry just lifted my spirits! Thank you! New Subbie 🤍
I do not typically do well with video tutorials or the like. My severe ADHD makes me frustrated and I start skipping around and missing valuable content, or I mentally drift off. But your videos just JIVE with my brain. I can easily sit through a whole video without jumping around or speeding up the playback. You have such valuable insight, and the information you give is more universal foundations rather than niche-applicable techniques, which means I'm in a position where I can start applying that information to my own style rather than attempting to mimic the art of another RUclipsr because of the specificity of their information.
You rock, dude. Thank you so much.
Thank you a lot for showing your process - and sharing your emotional process too! "Love your pieces/you paintings..." your creations... this is a big advice for me! Thank you so much for the lovely reminder!
I wanted to thank you because that tip with using just one brush is gold. I‘m more of a drawer than a painter because I love lines, but I wanted to enter digital painting (I did real painting in the past). But I feel so overwhelmed. Just concentrating on one brush helps me so much. I didn’t use many tools in real painting, but I thought digital painting was about the tools.
I have exactly 2 shapes of brushes for oil painting and even then I rarely use the other (flat shape) at all. There's no reason to approach digital painting differently when it comes to tools. They should assist the process and not hinder it. If there's an element that takes too much time to fiddle with I recommend just ignoring it and seeing how much they even actually matter. Painting in ANY format is hard enough on it's own so no point making it more complicated than it already is.
I am new to this channel. I also ordered my iPad this week. I am looking forward to drawing and creating art in a new medium. Painting and pencil have always been my go to. Seeing your work and hearing you express your infatuation with this art form is why I am subscribing. Thank you for your passion and your honesty. I look forward to your channel growing.
I loved this video and it touched me a lot. I'm definitely in that, "hate everything you make, desperately struggle to figure out what you love about painting" part. It feels like I have been for a couple years. I'm ready to love what I paint again - thank you for the lovely talk.
OMG! I am almost at the end of your video and really need to leave a comment already! I am sooooo enjoying watching your video. Not only how great you are painting your illustration but also listening to your story. Thank you for being so open and honest and for sharing your experiences with us. It is very personal what you are telling us in your video. Not everyone is so open. So thank you so much for your all energy. You helped me a lot on my way as an artist. And please continue and make more of such video if it feels right for you. Even if you know already about it, I need to say it: You are veeeeery talented . Thank you for inspiration!
This is the first video of yours I’ve watched, and to say in blown away is an understatement! Wow!!! Completely different than anything else I’ve seen for painting tutorials. I love how free and loose you were with what you started out with and watching it transform into structures and light. Sometimes I don’t like when an artist talks a wicked lot, but you had a lot of great things to say. It was inspiring listening to your story and I love that you love the sky. I do too. I also love that you were concerned that the training was not child safe. Lol! That was adorable! I look forward to watching side more of your creative process through your other videos. Thanks for sharing!
One of my favorite digital landscape paintings. Amazing job man!
Thank you for the kind words 🐻

I wish there were more bright and happy looking games. The popularity of francises like Zelda and Mario definitely show there is plenty of market for them.
Loved this. I’ve been using procreate for a few years now and love digital painting. But my technique is getting in the way of my creativity. This helps.
You are a wonderful human. Thanks for being alive and sharing this!
Hi Mikko! This is such a playful and fun piece! I really enjoyed watching you work through it. The color palette is absolutely gorgeous. So beautiful!
I love how happy you sounded when you started on the sky. :)
My mind is blown watching this....I believe everyone can learn to draw and paint but this is next level ability the rest of us can only aspire too...truly amazing 👌🏼👍🏻
I just found you channel and hearing you say that we should love our art more really hit me lol just a little thing i didn't know i needed to hear, gives me the little push to get back into art :)
