YAAAAAAYYY ANOTHER MIKKO PAINTING! 😃 This one is so unique and adorable I LOVE IT! 😍 You’re not gonna believe it, but my painting for your competition is underwater too! Very different to yours though. Keep up the inspiring videos mikko (I need them. They motivate me to keep painting hahahaha).
You prolly dont care at all but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot the account password. I love any help you can offer me.
I LOVE how you give your paintings the time and attention they need to create the environment you imagine in your mind, and I love that each object in your paintings has a story and a reason for existing, they make your pieces tell a story and seem so real! Your process inspires me!
Maybe part of it is just my inner child selfishly enjoying the escape all those things can offer. I definitely think that the process is more of a reward than the finished piece ever is. Sometimes it’s even a bit sad to finish a painting when it has provided me so much adventure in the creation of it.
I love how you explain everything, from your techniques to the story and emotions behind your work. Thank you for all the help and all the amazing work!
I appreciate your honesty about the time it took to create this piece. I enjoy making interior concepts like this but it does take a large amount of time to fully render them out. It helps all artists to set accurate expectations. 😊
One thing that can really help is having a super basic skill at 3d. Personally I love using sketchup because it’s on ipad as well and requires no learning to get started. Just throwing in dummy boxes as stand-ins for the intended furniture makes a huge difference in the amount of time it takes to do interiors. I did a rough 3d block-in for potion day in ketchup and the shadow information of the 3d sketch really helped to sell the mood in that piece.
Such a lovely painting Mikko, thank you for sharing your process. How many hours did you work on this? And do you take breaks often? Working in that position for a long time always hurts my neck. Could also tell me what kind of tripod arm that is? I’m looking for something like that for my dslr to work with on the go. Thanks and keep up the lovely work 😊
The stand is Arkon Pro Phone stand. It’s pretty amazing because it’s so easy to use. However I’m pretty sure any articulated arm such as that wouldn’t be able to hold the weight of a full dslr. I’m currently in the same boat trying to figure out how to shoot overhead footage with my canon because with lens it weighs almost 2kg. Most food photographers seem to use a C-stand with a sandbag counterweight. Then there’s the option of lifting 2 legs of a tripod on the table but in my experience any support from the same table I’m painting on results in shaky footage (unless the table is made out of slabs of stone) This took about 8 hours to paint +probably one hour extra for the temper tantrum in the beginning when I realised that the drawing portion is going to take forever 🐻 Btw not that I’m an expert on this or anything but if you want to shoot on the go often then an action camera might be a good option. They’d be easy to set anywhere and have amazing internal stabilisation these days. 🧐
angrymikko thanks so much for your answer! I have an arm attached to my wall at the moment, which works very well, but of course I can’t take that with me when I want to travel (not that that is possible at the moment 😉). I really like the quality of my Sony A7 III, so I wouldn’t want to give that up. Ah well, I’ll figure something out eventually 😊 Anyway, thanks for sharing your amazing art, it’s very inspiring!
no problem, let me know if you come up with something I could definitely need advice on this topic as well. Starting a painting can take enough energy as it is, having a cumbersome production setup to videos can be an extra weight that nobody needs to have.
Wow mikko that is some serious dedication 😍 I plan to do the same as my children get older, I visualise my window view of the sea (where I want to move) while I paint. This is my dream. For now I will have to keep adding to pieces over more time as I can. This is why I chose the iPad because I can create my art without being interrupted 😅 I am also homeschooling my two girls this year so lots of hands on painting also 😊
I have never related to someone so much, I didnt know i think the same way you do and i should of gone to school for drawing instead of business. This was very inspiring and fun to watch, keep doing you.
School for business is probably just as useful for a creative person as art school can be. To sell a commission is a complex procedure that isn't taught in most art schools at all. Every artist is kind of a business owner now, it can be overwhelming at times.
I love the work you've been posting lately - i had kind of given up on my art, but these are making me think maybe it's time to get back into it. Thank you :)
I like that you've embraced your shakey hand style. There's probably line smoothing apps you can utilise if you ever want to. Depends what you're drawing, but slightly wavy lines can add to the look of artwork, giving it a less clinical, more organic look.
Beautiful work, thank you for sharing it with us. If you want to stop the iPad from moving around, you can put a piece of kitchen paper towel underneath it. Silicone drawer liner also works very well.
All the recent work are filmed with a bit wider angle and the screen is fixed straight in post. It’s stuck to the table with a rubber back plate but some of these videos have 15+ hours of footage and thus small angle shifts are bound to happen. If the camera angle has perspective to it, it’s fixed with a corner pin. This is something that I do for all videos but it’s the heaviest process and takes 6 hours on 2 PCs to crunch through.
This is the first video I’ve ever watched of yours, and I had to subscribe. I loved hearing your “life lessons” when it comes to creativity and giving in to the adventure of a new creation. I think I always felt so much pressure to come to a final product in one 15-min sitting or less. I don’t know where I got that idea, but it’s just not possible to have instant gratification with art. This video gave me a new appreciation for art, and I’ve been a lover of art for over 25 years. I think what you’ve created is beautiful, and I can feel the cozy feeling you mentioned. It filled me with joy when you chuckled at yourself during the video, and this video inspired me in a way I haven’t felt for years. Thank you so much.
Been watching a frew videos of yours and your art is amazing yes but your voice overs are so inspiring... some almost brought me to tears. You seem like such a sweet and kind person. So happy that I found you
Just randomly found your channel and instantly subbed! You’ve got such an interesting accent and a really calm voice! I enjoy how you‘re really „into“ your art - like, you take your time to explain what‘s been going on in your head while designing this piece and laugh about the stuff that made you happy during the process. Keep up with your awesome work! :)
I'm so glad I stumbled across your page !! I didn't realise but the commentary has made the whole art piece even more enjoyable to watch, despite how amazing the piece itself is. The excitement and personality that shines through definitely makes it a joy to watch. I also enjoy the truth and the mental process of leaving the best things to last and doing things just because why not- its your own art so who cares. It has a very 'I'm going to do what I love and like. I'm going to break my own rules sometimes because why not' and I guess that's a great way to go about living your life not just through art. Or maybe both. Thank you for being an inspiration
oh man ! your art is what we call heavenly artwork ! its eye pleasing , watching ur videos make me feel relaxed and makes me feel better ! i wish more people knew about your channel cause you deserve MORE MORE appreciation , good luck keep going we support you ♥
I know this channel seems like a very small one compared to what most people are used to seeing in numbers but remember guys I was here for over a year making videos to basically no audience at all. I just want people to remember this if they consider starting their own channel or ig accounts. We never see the accounts with less than 100 followers or subscribers but they are there under all the recommendations and they won't rank in search even if you write the exact keywords they use in the title. It really does take time and patience so when I have "only" 10k subs that 10k was a lot of hard work and thousands of hours of painting and editing. When people write me that they're frustrated that their account isn't growing I almost always see that they don't post almost any work online. This can be a fun platform but it became only enjoyable when I learned to get excited about the process itself because seeing a video you worked for a week on to get only 200 views can be disheartening if that was your only goal.
Hi, I love your work! And I find it really cool for you to begin painting by colors, not shapes! But of course I find this one comforting because it did start from sketching, not random strokes of different colors, hahaha! Keep doing what you're doing, I really love watching your processes.
I often focus on the visual problems I face during a project rather than the process. If a the process can't adjust to what the piece needs then it's not a helpful too to cling on to 🐻
Omg i love it!! I'm new to digital art, I've always loved traditional paintings such as acrylics and watercolor. Recently I've been spending more time in digital ones since I got the ipad pro and pencil. Love your art and philosophy. I currently only have instagram to archive my work, probably will start to record my process onto youtube too. It's hard to get noticed being a new artist from ground zero, but I'll focus on my work and I believe people will see that one day too.
lunafei I definitely recommend starting posting work before you feel like you’re ready. Both platforms can take ages to get going and it can seem like you might be working for years and years before anyone notices. But there’s also the experience that can be gained from the sheer repetition of writing captions or planning videos. These videos definitely don’t happen on their own and if I hadn’t spent my first year making videos for basically zero audience then my editing skills would still be at that level if I started now. The more important thing is to focus on enjoying the work itself because it will require so much time that a number on an internet service will not make it worth it alone. I’m not going to wish you luck because luck is useless. Grit is more useful and I hope you have that when it gets tough and frustrating.
Idk if you’ve done the yellow submarine idea yet but it would be so cute to see the owner of the animal looking out the sub window excited to see his pup 🥺
I really love your arts and your story. I open this video while I painting my work and its like I have a friend working with me all the time( Yes, I'm so lonely working alone in this quarantine situation LOL). You're not only given me tips and knowledges, but ways of thinking. Thank you so much!
I would love to live in that underwater world. What an amazing painting this is. There’s so much to see! You paint like my cousin used to tell stories before bedtime, so many many years ago. Am touched by the beauty of this! Stay safe, keep painting 😉
I always wanted to do a childern's book. Now that I have this channel I guess I could do a series of paintings from the same story. Don't know how many would be interested in it but at least I wouldn't have to deal with publishers and getting my ideas approved.
Omg you are such a good artist and such a sweet person. Your doing sooooooo awesome I don’t think anyone minds if we see your hair I’m just mesmerized by your art
I’ve always had very shaky hands, also. Made my professors and clients freak out on me and how I could be so precise with photoshop (this was back at the turn of Y2K, when Photoshop was version 6 - 3 and 3 half upgrades from when I started using it. killer work.
Not only is your painting amazing, but the words you say during the painting are inspiring too! I love to listen to you and watch your process. Stay healthy and stay awesome! Ps. I loveeee the star, it's adorable
I really like the way choose your colors, it reminds the old anime backgrounds, like studio ghibli style, giving a feeling of peace and calmness. I wish you have in depthtutorials about digital painting, like gumroads or other platforms. Anyway I love your art, very inspiring, thank you for sharing..
Wow it’s so amazing that I was inspired to buy myself at least an entry level ipad to practice on drawing. Thank you, I like the way that you express yourself liking the star pillow. Got so much fun watching.
Thank youuu for taking the time to do this! Was so valuable. I also have shaky hands and would get discouraged at my drawings not looking too neat. Seeing what you were able to complete gave me so much confidence to keep going and finish my peices. Again, Thanks.
I am working on a separate painting right now with jellyfish so this is a timely video! As for the home project, I have 2 different houses going, trying not to lose myself in the details. I love this video. I think it could be one of your best yet! #starpillow
So much talking about a single painting. 😁 You keep it interesting All the way through. You seem like you are really enjoying the process of making these. Great job!
Mikko, you're so inspiring! I love your unique style. I'm planning to buy an iPad pro once as soon as the enhanced quarantine gets lifted. I hope to find my own style too and be able to learn efficiently using Procreate. Thank you for this video!
love this so much! I would love to have your talent and artistic ability even for one day !!! amazing to watch and so informative and inspiring to listen to you as you work and put so much into it your art. I just love everything about this.
What is the process for making the layers that are lighting? The orange glow of the fish lamp, and the blue light by the door? What exactly is going on there? Is it just a low opacity soft airbrush color on a layer? Or something more intricate going on?
dang, you're so good Mikko. I just found you few days ago and I love your drawing process and creativity! You inspire me so much. I can only draw from reference but I hope I can get to a point where I can draw from memory/imagination! Keep it up bro
I ready enjoyed watching this! I still have a lot to learn but you inspired me to go on! Thank you! Greetings from Daphne, in Holland during the lockdown.
Wow!! This is seriously the most incredible thing ever!! I hope to absorb your talent just a tad bit !!! AMAZING !! Keep it up. I love the story that it tells. Such imaginations ❤️❤️❤️
I love your work so very much & I truly respect the dedication and passion you have, thank you for being a wonderful inspiration & sharing your beautiful work🙏🏻
This is Masterpiece ... unlocking the potensial of pro create to the next level ... are you crying or laughing when you explain about the star pillow? ... lol
Stumbled upon this channel because I love the ocean. *Your brilliant.* I love your honesty to. I am the same. If I don't know, I don't know but that's why we are creative and problem solving kicks in. 👍 You got a new sub. I need to begin drawing but so lazy haha 😂 Very very awesome art! Take care and God bless. I'll keep watching.
It’s not a competition! Just want everyone to remember this☝️Looking forward to seeing your work 🐻
angrymikko whoops sorry I mean your challenge 😁
You dont speak finnish, do you?
You prolly dont care at all but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account??
I somehow forgot the account password. I love any help you can offer me.
@Richard Jude instablaster :)
You have such a sweet and modest attitude, it’s so lovely 😊
I’m all calm and collected before the star pillow gets colours on it 😂
I LOVE how you give your paintings the time and attention they need to create the environment you imagine in your mind, and I love that each object in your paintings has a story and a reason for existing, they make your pieces tell a story and seem so real! Your process inspires me!

I was super happy when you finally painted in the fox-dog's ear LOL cool painting 🙌
Time spent on creative endeavors is never wasted. You’re an amazing artist and such an inspiration. Thanks for sharing your amazing work!!
I love your voice. It sounds like snow on Christmas Eve when you laugh about star pillows.
Making a story with your art enhances is sooo much it just makes all the details tie together and make sense
"I want to be surprised by my own paintings!" ---> VERY ADVANCED and AWESOME TRAIN OF REASONING! ---> I want that too! :)
I love watching your process! Thanks for letting us in! 💕💕
You are one of my favorite artists on RUclips. Everything you do is so surreal and breathtaking.
This is so relaxing to watch yet there is so much information to absorb. Thank you!
I love the work you've been posting lately - i had kind of given up on my art, but these are making me think maybe it's time to get back into it. Thank you :)

I wanna live in this house so badly. With this massive chunk of a dog and the cosy feeling with cluttered walls
Funny how just a few weeks later this seems like my work room now with the dog and all the video gear.
I loved seeing this video and I love all of the small details. It really is a joy to look at and discover all of these small details!
I don't konw how to express my feeling ,excellent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!太棒了吧,真的是天才级别的选手。
this is literally one of the most amazing videos i've ever seen. ty for this
Your art is truly inspiring keep it up!!!
Awesome! Really love the big painting in the back!!! Looks beautiful :-)))
Don't know how many would be interested in it but at least I wouldn't have to deal with publishers and getting my ideas approved.
angrymikko that would be awesome!
My god! This is just utterly incredible! Such skill and so much good tips. Thank you!
Omg you are such a good artist and such a sweet person. Your doing sooooooo awesome I don’t think anyone minds if we see your hair I’m just mesmerized by your art
Love the star pillow haha ⭐️☺️
Beautiful! I love your new puppy.
unbelievably stunning!!! I loved watching this so much
Beautiful! I love the star pillow too.
Incredible. I loved your explanations of how it could make sense. You're awesome. Cheers!
I’ve always had very shaky hands, also. Made my professors and clients freak out on me and how I could be so precise with photoshop (this was back at the turn of Y2K, when Photoshop was version 6 - 3 and 3 half upgrades from when I started using it.
killer work.
I also love the large painting in the back ;-) Awesome work
It’s over 10years old now but I just can’t bring myself to throw it away.
Man your so talented, I get my iPad Pro next month for my 17th birthday and you inspired me to create pieces like the ones you make.
Love love your painting . You are so creative
Not only is your painting amazing, but the words you say during the painting are inspiring too! I love to listen to you and watch your process. Stay healthy and stay awesome!
Ps. I loveeee the star, it's adorable
It smiles like it knows it's special =)
I absolutely love that star pillow. 😍😍😍 SO much that I might add a similar object in my own underwater painting

What is the process for making the layers that are lighting? The orange glow of the fish lamp, and the blue light by the door? What exactly is going on there? Is it just a low opacity soft airbrush color on a layer? Or something more intricate going on?
