What inspires you to finish a painting... I have this problem where I start to paint and halfway through I feel bored and Nothing comes to my mind... I feel stuck.... And where do you get ideas for your paintings?? From traveling or you just extraordinarily creative???
Finishing a painting is the only way I’m able to stay this productive. I haven’t left a piece unfinished for years now. And by unfinished I mean unpublished. Since I know other people are going to see the piece soon it really makes me work hard so I don’t have to publish a stick figure doodle on my ig. Having “zero waste” like this makes it possible for me to have enough art to have this channel. I never paint more than 60minutes in one go to make sure I have enough breaks. Those are important to keep going, just as important as deadlines. Creativity and stamina for painting are skills like everything else. It takes time to build up them to match your desire for creating art but I don’t think they’re something you have or you don’t. It’s something that comes through repetition like everything else. Everyone has at least 3000 bad pieces of art in them, it’s good to get them out as quickly as possible. I really don’t believe in talent that much. When teaching art you see so many naturally gifted students that always fall to the level of the persistent ones as time passes. Eventually it’s the ones who find joy in the process who develop their skills the fastest due to the sheer volume of finished (published) work they produce. I want to quit like everyone else, with almost every painting. However I have enough mental tools to push through that part of the process. Sometimes it’s as simple as me saying to myself that “I can do this”. Everyone has to find their own trigger words that work for them in these situations. I know that quitting doesn’t just happen on its own. It’s a choice. So is finishing. When I put down the first dabs of colour on the canvas I know that I’ve already committed to finishing the painting. Even if I don’t know what I’m even painting I acknowledge that I have signed the contract with those first marks.
I really really like you. Sounds dumb, but the way you talk, and describe your feelings towards art make me remember why I loved this in the first place. this was an escape in my childhood, and a way to bring my worlds to life, something I can get lost in, and find wonder and magic. I lost that. I'll do my best to find it again. Thank you.
It’s really unusual to find such a clear and light channel as yours on RUclips... you are speaking so sincerely, from your heart, telling the background story of this painting and you childhood memories and feelings and also seeing this painting makes me feel so warm and comfortable inside, peaceful like everything is good and right... thank you for what you doing very much! The people who support me are ones that watch and comment on these videos. I also appreciate anyone who has bought my products on gumroad. The reason why I brought this topic up is because there are some who think they can make money out of services like the mentioned print store. That money goes to the vendor, not the artist. To put the sums in perspective: even if I sold 100x more on s6 I still wouldn’t be able to live one month with all the income that it generates during a normal year. My new print vendor: inprnt.com gives artists a better cut. Also the print submission process is a lot easier. (Do we really need hashtags on print stores though? It’s not like anyone is browsing randomly a landscape category in hopes of finding an artist they like, right?)
Watching this video reminded me that I need to put my heart back into making art. I feel like I need to thank you Mikko! This channel is so amazing! Besides loving your art, I love the way that you talk about art and the way you motivate me and you inspire me in every single video that you post! Hi Mikko, thanks so much for an amazing video! I really love how you manage to convey tons of technical and practical advise while just talking about art. Great vibe!
Absolutely amazing! I love your passion. Art is all about conveying your emotion through it! Art is not about perfection, it’s about feeling. Perfect x
Love the video. Great to watch how some else uses Procreate. Perhaps to avoid questions about the brushes you use you could list the brushes in the video description.
The content that you share on your channel is absolutely beautiful. Your artwork always takes me on a journey to a new and magical place, sparking imagination and creativity on the way there. It’s so fascinating to watch your process! Furthermore, your kindness and openness to your subscribers (and broader audience) is inspiring. I just came across your channel and honestly, I'm LOVING your work. I feel so relaxed watching your videos and at the same time, I learn a lot. This kind of landscapes always give me so much inspiration, thank you for creating such beautiful art!
Hey Mikko this is such an amazing piece and I wanted to say that I really respect you not only as an artist but as a person. I was really sad to hear that you make so little on your prints and when you said you don’t want to do sponsorships because they would affect what you want to say, that really resonated with me. I think a lot of people focus on the brush because perhaps like me they want to have a “one size fits all” solution to paint. I like the idea of only needing one brush from start to finish but a lot of the default ones make that difficult. I did have a question I’ve been wondering about for a while now. Do you ever paint “studies” any more? Or did you do studies when you were learning how to paint? One of my issues is that I tend to only want to start painting if it’s going to be for lack of better words “a polished piece” I can display. So I don’t tend to focus on just painting say...different kinds of rocks or muscles and anatomy. How important is that in terms of becoming a fully fledged artist? Thanks again for everything you do. I love the videos, love your art and love your way of seeing the world.
Dude I just love watching your stuff, it makes me feel warm inside and believe in my creativity, And how you describe things makes me want to come back and watch more of your content lol. And such good advice in here too.
I’ve learned a great deal from you and continue to learn so much more. You’re the teacher that I’ve always wanted, after elementary school and I left my art teacher after graduation, I felt like I was missing so much
Interesting to watch (not too fast) and to listen to. Love hearing about what makes an artist want to create and their theme choices. As far as the brush question goes.... yeah, that's almost as annoying for people reading comments as it is for you. Maybe put it in the video info as well, but even then a lot of people simply don't want to read.
I tend to skip the drawing part and skate right into the painting portion of the process \o/ because time is limited, moment is fleeting and the effects of caffeine; momentary at best.
This... THIS! I’m completely blown away by how beautiful this painting is. I really shouldn’t be surprised by this point, but I feel like each piece is bigger and better than the last. You should be super proud of this piece Mikko! 😍
I’m not sure I’m aiming for bigger but it was addictive to work on. I know I often complain about how long editing takes but making this video allowed me to spend more time with this mysterious island so it was actually really enjoyable. Like a vacation in a painting 🌴
angrymikko I usually find my smaller paintings more enjoyable truth be told, but sometimes it’s fun to indulge in making something BIG! 😁 I just love your creativity, I mean a BEAR TURTLE THINGO? Super cute combo 😍
I appreciated your comments about using a too small brush size, like for the small characters here. I was wondering why some of my work has not looked right.
I adore your art - there's so much life, visual interest, and story in each one! I also really love the way you paint greenery/forestry - would you ever consider doing a bit more of a tutorial style video for painting foliage? Or do you already have a video on that?
I'm not really sure about what's the right way to do that. Making a video where people can follow the steps to make the exact same tree seems like something I'd never do art students for obvious reasons so I'm having a hard time thinking why I'd do it on my channel. I wouldn't want to treat people watching this channel with looser ethics just because these videos are free. In many of my videos I go through the things that are good to keep in mind while painting trees. I think those tips are more useful as they're in no way specific to the style those pieces are done. A video I could do is maybe a compilation of these sort of notes. I don't have specific answer to this but it's something that I have brought up with other people who teach art. Just wanted to answer this so you know I'm not ignoring the request. It's just... complicated. 🤷♂️
@@angrymikko Thanks for your super thoughtful answer! I totally get it's complicated, and there are many different ways to approach teaching. A compilation of tips is an awesome idea in my mind! I've watched many of your painting videos and they're very helpful in all sorts of ways so thank you very much for taking the time to create them 🙇🏻♀️ I used to draw a lot, took a long break and am just getting back into it. I feel like when I was younger I'm happy with whatever I create, but after stepping away from art for a long time but still following a lot of other artists, it feels like the gap between my skill and taste is drastic now and I'm never happy with the outcome. I know I have to push through it to improve! I'm doing more digitally in Procreate and your work and videos are both huge inspirations and learning references. Honestly I wish I could somehow take classes from you! ♥️ Thanks again 😊
Amazing painting! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and tips, inspiring as always. I didn't know how little an artist receives from selling prints through these other companies! I don't know if others will find this interesting or if you've already spoken about this before, but I'd love to learn about your processes for making prints/prepare your art for printing, such as the colour editing process, etc. It forms an important part of the art process and there's so much info about it online but I find it can get pretty confusing. Anyway, thanks for another great video!
Found your channel just a couple of days ago, what a gem it is. I am myself a newbie youtuber/creator and try to upload some vids as i learn to use my new Wacom tablet (which i love, damn it took 10 years to get one, ten years too much!) and try to decide the main niche of my channel. Or actually it's quite clear already, probably just 3d modeling and painting and everything around it, the painting/drawing thing is my weakness tho so I guess and hope there's going to be a noticeable improvent as the content grows. Considered also gathering some courage to speak also in the videos, for now they are just sped up vids with some background music.. in all three of them ;D. Ehkäpä uskaltaudun myös tuomaan finglishini pöytään jahka koen että on jotain asiaa mitä jakaa - sulla on sentään erittäin hyvä tietämys ja arvostan että jaat sitä, hatunnostoni! :) Keep up the good work!
Breathtaking illustration, and I loved your commentary. I related with many things and learned new things as well You earned a new subscriber! Thank you for sharing your work
I dont know much about digital painting, but what I'm about to say is leaned towards traditional art, so I'm not sure if this works the same. When I create art, I work with tools that "feels right" and I have found over time I lean towards maybe 3 types of brushes, and I have a certain work flow that goes with it. I get why people may ask what your using just so they can try it for themselves but at the same time I feel it could be more important to just explore and find what feels right not just for that person but for their art
I come from traditional painting too and I remember waving around my big and small brushes in my “best brushes for digital painting video” or maybe it was “advanced brush strokes” 🤔 Anyway the point was that even if the scale is different, it’s still the same shape. In oil painting I can try few variants of hair for a brush but it’s a quick search. In digital painting the options are literally endless and that moment when one realises “this is a bit silly because it’s not all that important”. That moment can take a really long time to get to because there’s always another option to try. (This is the worst sales pitch for my brush set[which you probably shouldn’t buy])
@@angrymikko I've been slowly watching your videos from the beginning and have noticed you made comments about doing traditional art. What got you into digital?
You can do an edit on your new videos that displays a text mentioning what brush you're using. Also, maybe the resolution for your piece. This will allow newcomers to get the information without having to ask each time.
Both of those already are in most of my videos. I’m going to do the caption thing but at some point I’ll just have to acknowledge that I’ve put the information out there for the people that want to find it. I’m proud of my own brush set but it’s not going to make anyone magically a better painter. Understanding visual problem solving however will. That’s part of the reason why I’ve made these recent videos so long. I wanted people to see how I solve various issues as the painting comes together rather than speeding through the hard part.
@@angrymikko I think that the magic of your videos is that, indeed. The thinking behind the work. Behind the details and the decisions. And ultimately, that's what makes them valuable. I think the people who asks about brushes and specs is probably people who is really new to the illustration world and don't have much clue about how to get to the point to where you are at. Letting them just watch the videos and putting the information somewhere accessible should be all you need to do on your end. They will eventually realize that it's not the brush or the specs that make the artwork, but the skills and the practice. Thank you for posting all of these videos, btw. I often listen to you while I'm working :)

I love your work and videos. I’ve made art pieces all my life mainly color pencils. I’ve been tattooing for about 7 years. I’ve only had an iPad for about a year and barely even scratched the surface. Your videos really help. Thanks man.
My new favorite artist
Beautiful painting. I also love the narration.
Thank you 🐻 it was a special experience painting that one. I looked absolutely ridiculous lugging around that camera stand to coffee shops.
wow I can learn so much from you, just talking about how you create. I really love your appreciation for other ideas and styles and that you never say "you should definitely do it this way.." etc. :)
Your art is absolutely gorgeous!! I just started using procreate on the iPad and have been doing Tutorials to learn how. I came across your channel and I am completely inspired watching you work. Please never stop creating. 😍😍😍
I feel like I need to thank you Mikko! This channel is so amazing! Besides loving your art, I love the way that you talk about art and the way you motivate me and you inspire me in every single video that you post! I started my journey through art more seriously during the lockdown. I was always a lonely person, but now is being a bit more difficult to deal with loneliness... I know that you don’t know me, but you do make make me company! When your video finishes is like I say goodbye to a friend for a while... I don't have any artists friends, I hope I can find some friends in a near future! Thank you ☺️
Your commentary is really inspiring. Thanks. I needed it
I’ve been watching your channel all day! I really love your work. I thought this one was very sweet and I loved the story that you told behind it. Thank you for sharing your work! I just got some of your brushes. ☺️
Thank you for sharing your creativity with us in such an open and honest way. This was a fantastic video - thank you!
Thank you for stopping by my small channel :) (I wonder when exactly I should stop calling this a small channel though, never thought I’d get to 10k even)
I just came across your channel and honestly, I'm LOVING your work. I feel so relaxed watching your videos and at the same time, I learn a lot. This kind of landscapes always give me so much inspiration, thank you for creating such beautiful art!
I love this!
All of the green really draws me in.
xoxo
You are an amazing talent. Thank you for sharing so many fantastic videos!
You made it looks so easy.. Kudos!
it wasn't o_O()
Wow! Your work is amazing!
Thank you 🐝
You are so incredibly talented. Thank you for being so inspiring!
I’ve learned a great deal from you and continue to learn so much more. You’re the teacher that I’ve always wanted, after elementary school and I left my art teacher after graduation, I felt like I was missing so much
Love this piece. Gives me a real sense of adventure
As always, you are so inspiring :)
I was so optimistic that I’m going to finish the painting in one day...
(three days later still scrubbing foliage details XD)
Awesome art, very inspirational! Thanks 4 sharing!
Love your work, your awesome 😊
Your art is awesome!!! 😍
Thank you :)
The way you "draw" my brain can't comprehend. You are honestly true inspiration!
I tend to skip the drawing part and skate right into the painting portion of the process \o/ because time is limited, moment is fleeting and the effects of caffeine; momentary at best.
@@angrymikko you are just amazing dude, for real :)
This drawing is so crispy i almost did a backflip
You inspire me to do this kind of art.
Donwhatever kind of art that gets you excited to make it :)
This...
Wow absolutely wonderful, I have no idea how this sketch can be happening
Thanks... and that makes two of us! XD
You have artwork that reminds me of a scene ive made up in my head but you are able to actually make it a reality. So crazy
Your Art is pure Magic. Thank you! You are such an inspiration.
I appreciated your comments about using a too small brush size, like for the small characters here. I was wondering why some of my work has not looked right.
Wow that looks great!
Thank you 🐢 🐻
You are so talented. Im so inspired. Thank you
This is one of your best paintings imo, can really feel the scene.
Ur imagination is super
When you duplicated the lighting streaks I was literally squinting at the screen 🤣 it was so bright😱
I didn’t need the light I just needed a harsher gradient to colour pick from.
man, you are great as always.
wish I have skills like u.
greatly inspiring. 👍👍
I’m sure the type of skills you’re going to develop are unique to you in a way that will make comparisons unnecessary. Just go for it :)
I've watched many of your painting videos and they're very helpful in all sorts of ways so thank you very much for taking the time to create them 🙇🏻♀️
I used to draw a lot, took a long break and am just getting back into it.
Thanks again 😊
So cool!!!
I love this *-* I watched the whole thing while drawing. Never got bored!. How do you record overhead shots in coffee shops/ trains or anywhere?
I carry an insane iron overhead camera rig in my massive backpack 🎒 XD it’s actual insanity
“Bear turtle character”... I was afraid I was incorrectly interpreting a turtle with a bear head. But I guess that’s what it is 😂
THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING THING I HAVE EVER SEEN
I really enjoyed watching the whole process.
Your art is breathtaking!!!!
Thank you Joy :)
Beautiful ❤
Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the information. I love the painting :)
turtle bear!!!! 🥰
Omg i just discover u and u are AMAZING!!! More tutorials plssss ❤️
Luvin your content
Breathtaking illustration, and I loved your commentary. I related with many things and learned new things as well
You earned a new subscriber! Thank you for sharing your work
Welcome :)

@@angrymikko You are absolutely amazing. Keep going! 😊
Great Work...BRO
