Ross really embodies the fun and absolute joy of creating art. From playing with brushes and experimenting with various tools to eventually reaching suprising results!! I've been exposed to too much art content that are just focused on showcasing a structured path to reach results so coming back to this channel was really refreshing ❤❤❤
Beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful i have no words to describe how your art of hollow is moving me bro i appreciate your hard work and the effort you put in each piece i hope i will get to your level someday The anatomy is on point and rendering brings butterflies to my stomach The colors are amazing and omg I can’t stop talking Anyways i love your art keep going
I first found Ross in 2021 when I just got into digital art, and it's cool coming back, actually having a deeper understanding on his videos, and thinking of ways to apply them. Thanks for the techniques!
It's so epic to see that even the already-established artists still continuing to develop their artistic style and voice with new techniques and experimentation. this video was a really nice surprise, we've all missed you! Continue to take the time you need.
Hey Ross, i have been following you for about 6 years maybe. I just wanna say, thank you for coming back and making these videos. I am not much of an artist, but I used draw following your tutorials back in the Covid days. I remember you probably used to upload on Wednesdays, and I would jump right back to drawing every time you upload new videos. You gave me inspirations for drawing as well as for living a life. I loved how positive you are and always spreading happy thoughts through your videos. It gave me motivation to not go in any dark spaces. I live in Bangladesh, not sure if you'd notice this comment. I hope to get a chance to meet you in the future. Thank you so much for keeping us involved with your art journey. - Zinia
B is my favourite. It feels much more impactful when you see the character lean and the characteristics of the whole figure much better. The composition is more dynamic than the ones beside it with also the trees intercepting the wood as it reaches the viewers eyes. The middle one embodies an emotionally damaged child that contrasts from the scene very well.
11:03 Tbh I reeeeaaally love look C out of the three. Obviously each one of them are a masterpiece on their own- but the third…oh gosh the way it’s so captivating. Perhaps it the atmosphere that you captured so well? Like the rendering of the foreground that leads the eye to the subject in the middle. THE LIGHTING!! And I personally think the lesser details on the tree gives that depth, its back in space without having that “too much blur” look. Still looking at how well you are able to do color notes on different parts of the painting and making it feel so alive😭 this is so specific but that hint of blue (or maybe it’s a cool gray?) that is on the Lower left side of the tree, is so satisfying to look at. You’re so amazing😭
B feels more dynamic. And the imagery is clearly on the tree where as in A i couldn't tell if it was floating in front or not. Additionally B has a much more interesting composition. You still have him in the middle, but now we also have the rule of thirds (vertically) with the tree and not just from the ground plane
I love how you make videos. They're always really polished and fun to watch, like they're really filled with love, and they also teach techniques that I haven't seen anyone else use or talk about before... maybe I just need to be an artist for longer... Also, I personally like B the best. The composition of Hollow being turned away from the viewer along with his posture really evokes that feeling of not being good enough and unable to look one's audience in the eye. Plus, I think B does the best at showing that the sketchiness is actually on the tree and not just wisps or spirits or something emanating from Hollow.
I really like the composition of B, as well as the story being told in A. The composition of B guides my eyes through the image in a pleasant way and my attention is drawn towards the character and what he's doing. In A, the drawings and objects hanging from the tree are more in focus and seem connected to the character since he's in the center of it all. A, makes me wonder more about the character, his expression, and the tree. B, draws my attention more towards the world and asks what the character is doing there.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us and it fills my heart with joy when I see how happy you are about individual brushstrokes. Soo beautiful All three variants are fantastic, but my clear favorite is C
LETS GO ROSS bro i seriously an loving this video, thank u for the nom nom content, the fact that u get to make videos for us is crazy YIPEEEE i miss u!! LETS GOO
i've been struggling so hard with making backgrounds so tysm for sharing these tips!! i definitely think i like b the best because of how Hollow stands out against the bright background, it adds some really nice contrast. he looks so cool!
Something about a video like this is so helpful - seeing it work into a full process. I've been aware of these tools for a long time, but never knew how to work them into a painting process beyond the earliest stages. Seeing how you employ each one visually helps it make sense for me. Great tutorial Ross! :)
THANK YOU ROSS!!!! Super appreciate you breaking this technique down in an easy to learn quick video! Defintetly would love to see the photobash techniques too.
one thing I love when doing backgrounds to make em more painterly is to use a square brush. For some reason I just vibe with that. I'll have to try to jam these into my memory bank. :D
My favorites are B and C. B because it feels so soothing to me. While C feels, idk how to properly describe it, but alive...? Harmonic?? Like I said, not sure how to describe it, but it is my absolute favorite out of the three!! Lastly, A, is a little too chaotic for my taste. Love the tutorial and tips tho and will definitely use that next time!!
Haha I've been returning to art bit by bit and your reactions to textures are so relatable! I've been trying out Procreate and I feel like a kid again exploring new brushes. Using cloud brushes for more than just clouds is a bit obvious now you've said it, because they have such varied textures, but I've never considered it before. So cool!
Really appreciate the tutorial ! It’s a really smart technique and it’s definitely much easier than just working on the painting straight away. Really love your work and it’s been part of my inspiration in my own art career ^^ welcome back Ross :P👍
Painterly techniques are possible by using just one brush and selecting the opacity setting of the brush. The zoom feature allows you to get really close and make realistic drawings right on your phone!
Hi new to your channel. I’ve watched so many of these kind of videos and this is the first that I’ve felt actually gives good useful tips. I feel like not enough artists understand what a huge difference blending modes can make to a piece of work. Love your enthusiasm too. Thanks for sharing.
I can paint traditionally and wondered what wrong i was doing in digital art. The video was very helpful for creating the texture effects. thank you for sharing.
Wowww I love those pieces, they are awsome ! Love the different versions, I hope we will see more of it in the future (my favorite is C !!). I'm really happy you are doing videos again, I missed them ❤ -Love from a french artist
I’m so happy you’re back into the swing of things making new video Ross!! I’m still glad you too time to take care of yourself!! Can’t wait for more amazing video to watch that make me super happy!! 💕✨
Your hair is looking really good now, I'm gad you could fix it! You look very happy, it's nice to see you like this, hope you're doing great now, love you work! Your dog is amazing!
i first watched your videos probably 8 or so years ago when i was first practicing digital art, it's so nice to see that you're still active!!! definitely learned some new tricks that i'm excited to try, thank you for being an inspiration :D
I really appreciate you sharing the techniques most people won’t. In reference to the nervous laughter joke, I doubt people will start ripping you off just cause they learned some new techniques. It’ll manifest in new weird ways that are probably unexpected and really cool❤
All three are good it simply depends on what message you want to convey or what you want the people to look at. So first one emphasizes the character the second puts focus on the BG aka the tree and the last one showcases the action or mood of the scene.
This one was SO hard, but became one of my favorite videos to put together!! ~ surprise at the end!
let me know your favorites!!!! 🩵🩵🩵

I'm eating up C, and especially the B version, but maybe it's because Hollow's character's sticks out, BUT A?!?!! I LOVE VERSION A TOO!!!
Awesome ❤❤❤
But did the final Magic.. you must learn from Milo =p!
why is 90% of the video is just some low-effort brushpack advertisement?
Yess photobashing tutorial would be really nice! 7:29
