I love Buffalo Trace. I live about an hour away from the distillery and enjoy visiting the distillery to pick up a few bottles at MSRP. By the way, I just had them send me a Gift Shop Price List today and the current MSRP follows: Blanton's Single Barrel 750ml $63.00; Buffalo Trace 750 ml $27.00; Eagle Rare 750 ml $40.00; EH Taylor Small Batch 750 ml $45.00; and Weller Special Reserve 750 ml $30.00. Love your videos, keep up the good work.
I actually did a tasting at one point and I preferred Eagle Rare over Blantons. I was a little surprised at that myself because of all the hype. From this journey I have learned to just drink what I like and forget the hype.
I mean ER is “kind of” a single barrel (it’s not a blend but technically one barrel kinda bleeds into another) and is 10 years old, it shouldn’t be shocking if you like it more.
I actually got into bourbon and whiskey over the last year and it's been an outstanding journey two of my go-to's is Evan Williams white label and bardstown origin series absolutely incredible! I've had a few buffalo trace but I haven't actually owned a bottle myself yet so I'm excited to get some soon!
I work at a grocer that regularly gets Blanton's. I can get it for $70+tax pretty much weekly along with Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace. I do enjoy them all but have never been able to get a hold of any Weller as im not willing to pay 2x or 2.5x SRP. Love hearing the reviews and keep up the great vids!
You guys are spot on with this video. Good bottles at MSRP or slightly above. Unfortunately, too many shops lure in the newer enthusiasts and price gouge them. Hoping new production capacity is able to make these products more readily available in about 5 years.
Blanton's did for me EXACTLY what you described. It blew away the woodford reserves, knob creeks, and OGD 114s that I had tried and really showed me there's another level to bourbons.
A visit to Buffalo Trace distillery gave me a clear understanding of how they produce great bourbon. This video gives a clear idea of the BT business model. Thanks.
I’m not too far along on my bourbon journey. Buffalo Trace and Weller SR are actually my current top 2. I have yet to get my hands on any of these other bottles. Thank y’all for the great videos and content.
Lets see, I have 3 bottles of ER, 2 BT, 2 WSR, 1 Blantons and 0 ETL. I enjoy them all, but go back and forth between ER and WSR most often. Keep up the great videos, thank you BRT Patreons!
Dang what a great blind this giveaway would be for the winner. I have been drinking Weller since 1990 when I started working at Stizel Weller Distillery. I had some Blantons in the late 80s, didn’t like it and haven’t had it since. Thank you for sharing your fabulous collection of bottles.
I agree with the point on the overhype. I think some of it is related to the approachability of their products. They tend to drink very fruity and sweet without the nuttiness or minerality that other distilleries have. New people in the category tend to love the flavor profile.
Great episode, gents! I have 3 of these and have tried the other 2, and I couldn’t agree more - all great pours at SRP, but they’re not worth double or triple that. I’ve made Manhattans with both BT and Weller SR and I think they’re both great for that purpose. Unfortunately the Weller is too hard to find here in WI to do that very often.
I will admit, I am a Buffalo Trace fanboy and I keep all of their "standard" allocated bottles in my cabinet at all times. Living 30 minutes from the distillery helps. I have everything from BT standard to Pappy in my cabinet. EH Taylor is my absolute favorite out of everything in the cabinet. Now, Benchmark is a real sleeper pick. Those are AWESOME bourbons and at the price point you can't beat it.
Buffalo Trace Hunter! I Love Buffalo Trace. I like it so much; I had my daughter who lives in Arizona buy me a few bottles to keep at her house when I visit from Ohio. Trying to find a safe way for her to ship them to me. LOL! They were on sale for under $20 a bottle. It's hard to find sometimes where I live. I guess you can say, I'm a "hype hunter." I have paid over MSRP for a few bottles because of being hard to find. I'm a novice but becoming a bourbon enthusiast. Loved the video and will be sharing with some other friends who are getting into bourbons and whiskeys like me.
Love the message of BRT. Been a huge advocate of sharing the bottles that I acquire to help those that are getting into Bourbon. Was always discouraged having to purchased large bottles to try something new.
Recently got my hands on a bottle of Eagle Rare and it's definitely my most reliable pour. It's leaps and bounds more satisfying than most of the bottles i've tried and own.
I like your comments. Also, I’m a big BT distillery fan. I have BT, ER, Blanton’s, Elmer T Lee, Benchmark, and EHT that I can think of off the top of my head.
Definitely hyped, but i look forward to the expansion and maybe seeing more show up on shelves. Lately this just doesn't show up near me on shelves, and always marked up heavily when it does. $50 for base Buffalo Trace, for example. Weller SR gets put behind glass at $80. I'm optimistic that eventually I'll start seeing some of these products around and can try. But still no hate on my end for the hype, just jealousy!
George T Stagg, Stagg (Jr), and Eagle Rare are my all time top 3 favorites. That said I would never pay over MSRP and I thoroughly enjoy the hunt/lotteries/raffles. I hunt around Houston :)
I work in the business, where each of these items are at SRP. The problem is they are of course allocated we don’t get much. People are constantly asking for these items which are great pours each and every one but I have bourbon that is better. The reason why I say better is because it’s readily available. We have barrel picks that range from the $30 to $89. Out of all the selections on your bar top I would go with Eagle Rare.
If I had to pick a desert island bottle I think I would pick Benchmark Full Proof over all the bottles featured in this video. They are all good, but I like a little more proof.
Toured BT last year. Loved the facility and the staff. It was the best distillery visit of our trip. ET Lee is the only one of the line up that I've not had. Keep up the great content 🤘🏻
I love some Buffalo Trace at MSRP! The basic BT is one of the first bourbons my friends got me to try that I liked. We share a flask of it when we backpack at Red River Gorge.
Keep up the content fellas! I have more of a chance finding an actual buffalo than some of this juice in Maine... I enjoy sipping bourbon but I don't enjoy having to join a circus to do it so I end up being happy if I even find a bottle of standard buffalo trace on the shelf but haven't had the pleasure of securing most of these but routinely spend my bourbon funds exploring Turkey & Heaven Hill selections as well as the more readily available craftys (Woodinville/Barrel/Wilderness Trail) that seem to be making it north these last few years. My wife and I would be stoked to try these but either way we will enjoy a evening pour to more of your content in the future. Cheers.
I have to say I try to keep several bottles of BT, ER, and Blanton’s on hand but vary seldom drinking it because there’s so much out there to try, sipping a Kink,s County barrel strength while watching this, bought it months ago and only second pour (so much out there) 🥃🥃😎
I definitely enjoy Buffalo Trace products. The other day, I met a guy that said "Blanton's is my jam". I told him, I enjoy Blanton's to. However, there are better bourbon out there that costs less. He asked, like what? I told him, try Knob Creek 9, 1792 Bottled and Bond for two to try. We did and he agreed, that they both tasted as good in not way better. Anyway, just wanted to share. Love your channel.
Great show as always! I've enjoyed the offerings from Buffalo Trace that were available at MSRP but, I refuse to pay beyond 10 - 15% over for them! I've tried their Benchmark Full Proof when they were available, and I affectionately refer to it as Buffalo Trace on steroids! As always, y'all are very informative with your content, which can be very helpful when shopping. I will be observing Lent with an abstinence but, I will be keeping my eyes open to start shopping for an Easter collection. Cheers!
In VA pretty much anything from BT is allocated. I’ve nearly written them off my search list. The Weller SR is probably my least favorite. I had a 1.75 that I purchased at a bourbon drop a while ago and served it to friends to get rid of it. Like you said, it’s not bad but there are so many things that are better and available. Great video.
Really appreciated this video. Been into bourbon now for about 7 months and have had Blantons and Buffalo trace and that’s it from them. And benchmark which I love, but super great to see what the others were all about.
Nice video. I got to tour Buffalo Trace a couple years back. It was an awesome experience. The smell walking up to the rick houses was buttery better than I could've imagined. Can't wait to do dinner more tours some day.
You guys did a great job with this topic. Buffalo Trace bourbons absolutely shouldn't be as polarizing as they are. Good representatives in their respective categories, but unfortunately a lot of new bourbon lovers come in with no idea how to evaluate current pricing.
I always seem to be grabbing something from the Buffalo Trace lineup but some of these prices are getting out of control. I'm glad BT recognizes this and invested heavily in increasing production. Hopefully it doesn't affect taste or quality.
I agree with you about people that say they don't like BT or Blanton's, there is nothing offensive about these whiskeys. What people should say is "I don't like Blanton"s at $100 a bottle".
Blantons is one of my favorites and surprised it gets so much hate. I will say Eagle Rare is one of my favorites for old fashioned. Now I got to try Buffalo trace in mixed drinks. Cheers!
I do enjoy trace products, but I do feel many people only want them because they are difficult to obtain. Regular Buffalo trace has gotten easier to get lately. A year ago people would go nuts to get their hands on a regular Buffalo trace bottle. But I was in a store yesterday and saw multiple people asking for eagle/blantons. When told they were sold out but trace was available, they just turned around and walked out. My thought is, more for me (and my friends)
Love you guys! I live in Fredericksburg Virginia, home of the Bowman Distillery, they are also owned by Sazarc.. Rumor has it they’re bourbon in BT mashbill #2
i too enjoy Eagle Rare over Blanton's and some other allocated bottles. that 10 year mashbill is just a hit in my book and if you can score it for anywhere near msrp, it's a must buy.
I was fortunate to pick up a total wine BT recently while visiting the Dallas area. I never miss out on picking up ER n BT barrel pics if i run across them.
I visited Buffalo Trace mid July 2013, a few days after Elmer T. Lee passed away and during our tour, they relayed his story to us and we watched as they were bottling Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel. I picked up a bottle from the gift shop for the memory (date stamp of 7/26/2012). I don't recall the price, but was likely in the $30-40 range at the time and still have some of it left to do this day (though I haven't tasted it recently and it may be truly oxidized by now). That said, I don't think I'll ever buy another unless it's at MSRP. While it was a fairly decent pour, I don't feel it's worth the markup or the hype, but am still glad I purchased the one I have more than 11 years ago.
I love how you explained hype rage, because I had that when I had my first buffalo trace. Was so hyped and it was nothing special. Excellent content brothers.
Love bt especially ER! I’m a wheater at heart but can’t find Weller anywhere around here but here’s to finally finding that bottle! Great video fellas!
Solid video review of these bottles from the Buffalo Trace distillery 👌🏽...I enjoy the Buffalo Trace neat and will occasionally put together an Old Fashioned with the Eagle Rare 10...Delicious!!! 🥃🥃🥃
Great video! Eagle Rare used to be one of my daily pours. But for the past 2 years, I had to switch to knob creek 9 as I can't afford to buy a $70 bottle of Eagle Rare every other week, due to the hype.
I think BT has been instrumental in getting folks interested in bourbon. Depending on your perspective that can be good or bad, lol. I was a lifelong JD#7 drinker, I had no idea there was a whole world of options out there until one night at a local bar I tried Buffalo Trace. It's been a really fun rabbit hole since then.
I will admit that at the start of my bourbon and whiskey journey I absolutely was hunting BT bottles. Now I am just trying to taste as many different brands as I can to narrow down my preferences. Keep on keeping it real guys. Great video as always.
Thanks for the video. I enjoy Weller, Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace at srp. I really enjoy the single barrel expressions of BT and ER Thanks for the giveaways. 🤙
Out of most of the Bourbon lines I have tried Buffalo Trace falls in at number 2 for my pallet. Good stuff for sure but not the best out there. It is like Christmas though if you find a bottle for msrp for almost any BT product honestly. Thanks for all you guys do!
If you get to Buffalo Trace Distillery on the right day, you can find Eagle Rare, Blanton’s, or EH Taylor at slightly above MSRP. Last time I purchased a Blanton’s there it cost $71.
They might be overhyped, but I definitely still enjoy all of the Buffalo Trace products you guys discussed today. It will be interesting to see what availability looks like over the next few years now that they've ramped up production.
It's nice to find a couple of these at retail prices, but most I haven;t been able to find, even when spending money at my local retailers. Maybe one day.
Great point about Blanton's being created to destroy Jim Beam Black and the rest of the shelf available products back in the 80's. For me, that provides a lot of context as to how it should be compared & ranked with the whiskeys that are available to day.
I used to be all about going full tater and hunting down everything BT. I've stopped focusing on trying to get my hands on all the Wellers and Blantons. I still hope to one day obtain a BTAC and Pappy but not spending ridiculously high secondary. These days I'm more intrigued with the craft distilleries and blenders/finishers. After 4 years in the bourbon journey I've yet to taste Blantons or Elmer T Lee
Enjoyed the 2 Blanton’s that I had in the past (bottles), and Buffalo Trace, but Eagle Rare is still the favorite (1 and half bottles remaining). Keep up the great videos.
Once again great content that does not belittle entry level bottles! Funny how you can’t find Buffalo Trace here in Virginia, but in Florida it’s how many do you want. Wife and I look forward to all your videos and appreciate the welcoming community you’ve inspired.
I love Buffalo trace If, and when I can as a mixer as well. It's great when it's available. I do agree for the price of Elmer. T. Lee and blanton's, it is all hype. The juice is good, but the price is way over than the Juice is worth.
So glad you guys covered this. I LOVE buffalo trace and their products. I can always find a buffalo trace wherever I go and always have a bottle at home. I found a special reserve for $20 and thought it was so random how it was cheaper than regular buffalo trace yet harder to find. I feel like this video helped, thanks fellas! Ps, seeing a bottle of buffalo trace in 1.75L form is one of the best sights ever lol
@@Oooooo-xi2mx $59?!?!? That’s a great deal! I saw the 1.75L at a bar next to the 750 ml on the top shelf and was optically having a hard time figuring out if the 1.75L was a 750 and the 750 was a mini lol Cheers! Hope that one lasts a long time!
So many awesome whiskeys out there. Don’t need to waste energy chasing BTAC! Personally I enjoy Holloday soft red wheat bib and rickhouse. I call it Missouri pappy.
I enjoy standing in line talking with different people from all walks of life at Buffalo Trace Distillery. I try to go twice a year. I've never had Elmer T Lee. From what you,, BRT and others have said, Elmer is at most a $40 bottle. Thanks and cheers 🥃
Just started enjoying bourbon in the past year. I like your videos and find them very informative and help me to appreciate the nuances of the different bottles. Keep up the great work!
Welcome! If you have a Facebook, come join our community: facebook.com/groups/bourbonrealtalkcommunity. You can ask questions without fear of whiskey trolls.
I love Buffalo Trace. I am also excited to try Weller, Eagle Rare, Elmer T. Lee and Blanton's. Please enter me in the contest and please let me win. When I get a new bourbon from the liquor store, my wife says "Why are you getting that?" I say "Because Randy Sullivan spoke highly of it. You do know who Randy Sullivan is, don't you?" "Oh. That RUclips bourbon guy."
Also people need to understand that at the end of the day blantons is just a single barrel, eagle rare is just an older kind of single barrel, weller is just wheated bourbon so if you find a distillery whose mash bill you enjoy, get their single barrel, get their older single barrel, get their wheater etc
Love Buffalo Trace products. Been on several tours. Some day, I'm hoping to be able to purchase an EHT Barrel Proof if I win the lottery. Thanks for all y'all do. I've learned a great deal from y'all over the past 4 years. Cheers and stay safe!
I like Buffalo Trace. Wish I could find it more consistently. Several years ago, the local ABC had a wall full of Eagle Rare, including 1.5L bottles, for MSRP. I bought a TON, but eventually ran out. And I've never seen it again. :(
I have 3 different Buffalo Trace single barrel selects that I really enjoy. The first time I ever tried Eagle Rare I loved it which was about 2-3 years ago. Then I finally scored 2 bottles last year and cracked one open and I had fallen out of love with it. I found it to be just ok at best for me. My first and only Blanton’s to me was so underwhelming it wasn’t even funny and I could not get past a bitter note it had on my palate so I traded it off. My wife who isn’t a neat bourbon drinker said it didn’t make for a good whiskey sour compared to Elijah Craig toasted barrel. I did try a store pick Blanton’s that was so much better than mine but I passed on it because at $95 dollars the flavor profile still didn’t impress me. I have paid less money or around the same for other single barrel bourbons that put both of the Blanton’s I have tried to shame.

I'll trade you Weller for ER, lol
My local shop has 1.75 Weller for 46 bucks

We’re preparing for our first trip to Kentucky this April and Buffalo Trace will be one of our stops. Your channel has been very helpful!
Lets see, I have 3 bottles of ER, 2 BT, 2 WSR, 1 Blantons and 0 ETL. I enjoy them all, but go back and forth between ER and WSR most often. Keep up the great videos, thank you BRT Patreons!

Love your guys positivity. Absolutely down to earth.🇺🇸👍 Vietnam vet here..75 almost 76 on the 21st love bourbon and good ryes.God bless.

Toured BT last year. Loved the facility and the staff. It was the best distillery visit of our trip. ET Lee is the only one of the line up that I've not had. Keep up the great content 🤘🏻
I have 3 of those bottles and love them. Special Reserve being the best neat
I love some Buffalo Trace at MSRP! The basic BT is one of the first bourbons my friends got me to try that I liked. We share a flask of it when we backpack at Red River Gorge.
I love Buffalo trace products. First distillery we went to so I'm definitely a sucker for their juice! Cheers! 🥃

BT is my go to daily! Looking forward to a day in the future when we see Weller or Elmer sitting on the shelf!
Thanks for the informative info on the different mashbills.
Keep the trace coming, looking forward to the day 107 sits on the shelf again!!
I think you guys hit the nail on the head with this video. I agree 100% on Blantons but only if it is closer to MSRP. Very good but way overhyped.

I have only seen Buffalo Trace near me and it was a barrel pick as well. Too tasty to not drink back. Appreciate the channel.
Great breakdown of the different products from same mash bills
Really appreciated this video. Been into bourbon now for about 7 months and have had Blantons and Buffalo trace and that’s it from them. And benchmark which I love, but super great to see what the others were all about.

Total Wine in Baltimore, MD had a Mashbill #2 Eagle Rare about 4 years ago. That was pretty cool to grab one of those.
Buffalo Trace was my stepping stone into bourbon, but Eagle Rare was the one that made me realize how much I enjoyed bourbon!😋
Hunting BT products is a lot of fun as I travel town to town. First thing I look for: Eagle Rare and Wellers.
Cheers!
People only hate on it because of the secondary price and hype. It's a fine bourbon at the correct cost.
Love ER,BT, and Blantons but they are harder to find in NC so I find other juice I like that’s on the shelves. Thanks for the GAW!
Good, solid review. I have a lot of Buffalo Trace products. They’re all delicious but I do think they’re overhyped.
Elmer T Lee was my favorite bottle for 25-30 fifteen years ago. As much as I have a fondness for that time, I can’t justify chasing it or overpaying.
New to looking at all these brands and flavors. My brother is helping lead me through the weeds.
I have tried two bottles of Blantons and really enjoyed one and the other was ok.
I have liked all of the Buffalo Trace family of bourbons I have tried. I think it is one of the top 3 distilleries in the world
Their demand would certainly seem to indicate you are correct
I do enjoy trace products, but I do feel many people only want them because they are difficult to obtain. Regular Buffalo trace has gotten easier to get lately. Just started my bourbon journey and was able to score 3 bottles of eagle rare! Super tasty and was able to get it around 40 bucks a piece!
I was fortunate to pick up a total wine BT recently while visiting the Dallas area. I never miss out on picking up ER n BT barrel pics if i run across them.
I drink buff trace and Weller special reserve when I'm at the pool. Very easy to sip on
Just got my 1st bottle of blanton's today at MSRP. Looking forward to comparing it to some of my other favorites!
Tried all of these. Had a chance to taste Elmer T Lee on our annual fishing trip!
Love the stuff you’re putting out- wish you’d restock the coasters & smoking kit in your store.
Great video. The only bottle that I am missing from that lineup is Elmer T. Lee.
Agree with a lot of what you shared here. Also - big fan of baseline BT for highball drinks, old fashions, etc.
Love the ER and Buffalo Trace. Unfortunately I haven’t tried the rest yet.
Out of most of the Bourbon lines I have tried Buffalo Trace falls in at number 2 for my pallet. Good stuff for sure but not the best out there. It is like Christmas though if you find a bottle for msrp for almost any BT product honestly. Thanks for all you guys do!
Weller SR is one of my favorite “daily” pours specially when found at retail.
It’s weird how they fired the last distributor that was screwing up and now the new one still can’t figure out how to distribute nationwide.
I love Buffalo trace If, and when I can as a mixer as well. It's great when it's available. I do agree for the price of Elmer. T. Lee and blanton's, it is all hype. The juice is good, but the price is way over than the Juice is worth.
That SSW BT pick is the best I have ever had!! Sooo good!
Yeah, I bought a 1.75ltr Eagle Rare bottle for $59 a few years ago just because of how impressive it is.
@@Oooooo-xi2mx $59?!?!? That’s a great deal! I saw the 1.75L at a bar next to the 750 ml on the top shelf and was optically having a hard time figuring out if the 1.75L was a 750 and the 750 was a mini lol
Cheers!
Its good, but nothing special imo
@@LeatherDaddy97 That's what I have heard. That's why I don't plan on buying it. 🥃
Former Scotch drinker. Who found Bourbon recently. These expressions are among my favorites.
Great job, gentlemen! Keep connecting the bourbon community to awesome content.
Just started enjoying bourbon in the past year. I like your videos and find them very informative and help me to appreciate the nuances of the different bottles. Keep up the great work!
Visited Buffalo Trace Distillery last year. Great video explaining the hype of BT and explaining the bourbon market.
Great stuff. Doing a blind tonight during Super Bowl!
I have to say that I do enjoy Buffalo Trace products. Thank you two! Enjoying seeing Flat Bill Wes back.
Thanks guys! I am just getting started. Much to learn and sample

I appreciate the breakdown in mashbills. Most newer collectors don't know how similar many of these sought after bottles are.
Also people need to understand that at the end of the day blantons is just a single barrel, eagle rare is just an older kind of single barrel, weller is just wheated bourbon so if you find a distillery whose mash bill you enjoy, get their single barrel, get their older single barrel, get their wheater etc
Living in TN liking these def gets you laighed......which is just fine. Ill always buy them at SRP......they're super solid.
Love Buffalo Trace products. Been on several tours. Some day, I'm hoping to be able to purchase an EHT Barrel Proof if I win the lottery. Thanks for all y'all do. I've learned a great deal from y'all over the past 4 years. Cheers and stay safe!
Great stuff! Still haven’t seen Eagle Rare nor Elmer T Lee in my market.
