Great video. Buffalo Trace is always a go to. EH Taylor and Stagg is not around my arrea, not even at mark up. It's just not available. Obviously can't get a 1992 Blantons but I have a regular 2023 bottle and it's good of course.
Doesn’t surprise me. Stagg Jr. is candy 🔥! Absolutely love the family affair, even mom behind the scenes. Much love, blessings & Happy Thanksgiving weekend to you all!
@@apeekintime wouldn't call it crap, but it's definitely overpriced, and that price is 100% the bottle porn b/c of the grenade look and the horse on top. I did have a taste of a bottle a friend found last year and it was good; just not for that cost.
Not going to lie. I thought about asking for whatever bottles you were buy. Saw you at bees but was in a huge hurry. This channel adds to my “need to buy” list every time.
I'm starting to question myself as to why I come here. Do I come to hear about bourbon and other whiskey's? Or Trenton's stories? 🤣🤣🤣 You guys are great.
Tomorrow a year ago, while watching the Iron Bowl at a friend's house, I had my first taste of Bourbon in an old fashioned. I was hooked. I've hunted everywhere I went. I was able to get a Stagg at twice MSRP (120). I didn't think twice about it. I have not seen another at a cheaper price. Now, it's time to get another as my brothers and I finished my bottle last night. 😢
The pie/cobbler discussion brought back memories of my childhood. At Boy Scout summer camp when I was 12, our final task for the cooking merit badge was to make a peach cobbler (over an open campfire) to serve 25. Best dessert I've ever eaten. From what I remember, cobbler uses biscuit batter instead of pastry, and doesn't have a bottom layer of crust. But pie or cobbler, either one... sign me up.
5:08 Trenton gets the mask smell. I don’t know if I’ve ever laughed so hard, and in your videos that’s saying a lot. Then Kurt laughs as he’s about to take a sip and Trenton hits his tooth on the glass 🤣 Wow that went off the rails!
New bourbon drinker and currently trying to find what I like. only had Elijah Craig, Tom follery, weller special, and makers mark 46. Makers my favorite so far. Suggestions on what to purchase next would be appreciated.
Does Trent get high before he tastes these bourbons? He is hilarious LOL where does he come up with his notes? LOL the stories behind these notes are just as crazy as the note LOL
It was close, but kudo's to Kurt for holding it together when Trenton, out of nowhere, asked if he'd ever torn up a bush? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Seriously, another great video. It would have been nice to throw a 5th, Eagle Rare in the mix as well. BT is $34 bottle on the East Coast and very hard to get at that. Still holds it own, but at that price point the competition is stiff.
Wonder if part of the problem w/the Blantons is that they were expecting Buffalo Trace and the first thing they tasted was NOT anything they were expecting when thinking about BT. Conversations your child never wants to have w/their parents, but asks it anyways. "have you ever torn up a bush?"
Curt, I've been watching for a while and I notice you like the higher proof rich molasses, brown sugar like the Stagg Jr. I havent seen any Makers Mark on your shelf, but i hadnt tried any in years until recently. My wife got a bottle of Makers 46 barrel strength batch 23-01 and it blew my socks off! Way better than any of the older batches!
I did exactly the same things with the toothbrush, toothpaste, etc with my mom when I was a kid. I’d put the same amount of toothpaste on my tongue as would go on the brush, swish it so my mouth smelled clean, wet the toothbrush with warm water. It got harder to falsify when my mom got the indicator bristles that wore down over time. “I just don’t brush that hard is why that toothbrush is lasting so long…”
I’d drink about all of the alternatives before Blanton’s. It isn’t bad, but each other choice is either vastly superior or a better value (regular Buff Trace).
I’d love to see how some of the less liked really special allocated bottles fair against a bottle that tends to perform mediocre, like a 2023 birthday bourbon and/or voyage against a blantons so we could get an idea how good or bad some of them really are
The vocals had a bit of “boomyness” in this video. Applying a high-pass filter or an eq adjustment might help. Keep up the good work. This retired sound engineer enjoys your content.
Glad I scored an E.H. Taylor today by total luck! While not fortunate enough to try many unicorns, this is still in my top 5. Handily overtakes Eagle Rare, Blantons, and BT for me. Still haven't had Stagg of any sort, but it's in a different league for price and obtainability.
I ran into a EH Taylor the other day and had it for the first time. I’ve had eagle, Blantons, and BT. Hands down the Taylor is better. stagg jr was available for $150 but hard to fork up
@@danielbanda999 Wow, Stagg Jr. for only $150? I know that's not cheap bit it beats the $270+ I see it for, when I rarely see it. E.H. Taylor used to be $40, but I was ok with paying $53 at the local big box liquor store. Even the Eagle Rare they had was $50. I can't imagine spending $50 for Eagle Rare when the Taylor is only $3 more!
A local liquor store near me is having a drawing tomorrow. They have a number of hard to find bottles and gave out the same number of tickets to customers, so everyone will have an opportunity to get a bottle of something. If your number is towards the end, your choices will be limited. The first number drawn obviously gets first choice and it progresses from there. I got my number today and checked out the selection. They had Bookers, Knob Creek 18, Joseph Magnus Cigar, Blanton’s, Eagle Rare, Caribou Crossing, Weller Antique 107, Remus Repeal Reserve, Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit, several Widow Jane selections, A Midwinter Night’s Dram, and others. Prices were pretty much in line with MSRP. The Eagle Rare was $45, Blanton’s was $60. Any suggestions on which I should try to get? I was leaning towards the Joseph Magnus Cigar or the Weller Antique 107, if available.
Go Weller 107, you won't be disappointed. If you're farther down the line aim for Blanton's....last resort eagle rare is always solid. Avoid the bookers and midwinter dram
I would definitely go after the Antique 107 (maybe the Jos. Magnus Cigar Blend, although I have a few). I like the KC18, but definitely have to like that older oak whiskey vibe. And definitely pass on the WT KY Spirit, IMO the WT Rare Breed is so much better for usually not that much more $.
I like the Widow Jane Decadence (usually close to $100 here). Just got a chance to try WJ The Vaults and was not really a fan, especially at 2-1/2 times the price of the Decadence.
If you’re a Blantons fan, I don’t think you would. Compared to 22A or even 22B it would be left in the dust. I got to sample gold and was very happy I didn’t spend money on it.
If Buffalo Trace is creating this artificial storage, then they are responsible for the price on the secondary too. I cannot speak of Stagg or Blanton but Eagle Rare and BT sits on the shelves in GA. The storage of products creates hype that would not be there if we could find it. In most cases with the exception of the BTAC series Buffalo Trace is a mid trier product at best. In blinds it is beaten by comparable bourbons all the time. We want what we cannot have which increase the hype. You cannot say this or you get a lot of hate cause of the hype.
I must be the only person on the planet that doesn’t care for Stagg Jr. We were able to pick up 2 bottles a couple of years back for retail at an allocated release. I keep going back to see if my taste/opinion will change but it hasn’t. Makes me really wonder if the bottle I have open was a fluke. Haven’t opened the second one.
A good bottle of Blantons is good. And a bad bottle of Blantons is not great. As they are all single barrels you never know what you are getting. There are other single barrels that I prefer?
Some people like Batch 12. However, I hear Batch 15 is one of the best Batches. How does it compare to Batch 22A, 22B, 23A and the Batch 23B? I have only tried Batch 18 which I took to my brother's yesterday. Needless to say, it went down without a fight. It's time to get another one. 😢😢
We just did a tasting with Stagg Jr batch 17 (also considered one of the best) with Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B520 & C923. The 2 ECBPs were neck and neck but still seemed to beat out the Stagg.
Does anyone have experience with other fruit/candy forward bourbons/distilleries? I recently lucked out on a Weller 12 and ER and have been loving that grape fanta note. I’d love to be able to find similar fruit sweetness without the hunt.
Jack Daniels - Gentleman Jack specifically is pretty smooth, and just nails BANANA BREAD throughout. Also, Old Forester 1910 has some nice cherry notes.
There is a bit of comparing grapes and pomegranates. Why not better to get similar ages, similar proofs, all standard production or all small batch or Single barrel? Good video Bless UP❣️
Not only do I find Blanton's overrated....I flat out don't even think it's an average bourbon. Much rather have a Benchmark bottle honestly or the regular Buffalo Trace.
I see that chamucas bottle back there can we get another tequila video someday kurt? I really think tequila is starting to make way into the bourbon community moreso this year atleast from who ive talked to.
@@johng5710 So is scotch. There is a reason why 80 proof is accepted in the spirit world while i hardly reccomend 80 proof bourbons it works for other spirits. Tequila it doesn't rely on the proof to pack flavor in most of it comes from the agave and water while bourbon requires proof for a broader palate most cases. Tin cup is a good 80 proof bourbon it could be done more but its not popular with the community so most distilleries will not bother.
Y’all often play fast and loose with comparisons, and fair enough, it’s your show. However, throwing in a 30 year old, open bottle, then titling the video the way you did is misleading and really flirting with dishonesty.
Found Stagg 22A a month ago in Florida fir $54.58! We got all 4. For Thanksgiving I opened one to share with family and close freinds. Delicious but very hot. We checked bunch liquor stores between Florida and Louisville and the only one was $399.98 at a liquor store in Alabama.
As for the Blanton’s, I wonder if it being in a secondary container would change it. Just an extremely small remnant of something used to clean the glass could change the taste. Dunno
“Have you ever torn up a bush?” might be the greatest thing I’ve ever heard. Bravo.

I see that chamucas bottle back there can we get another tequila video someday kurt? I really think tequila is starting to make way into the bourbon community moreso this year atleast from who ive talked to.
The problem with tequila is that almost every one (with a few exceptions) is bottled at 80 proof.

Not surprised in the slightest the Trent was an anti brusher with all his constant candy talk 😂
Dunno
