Bowman brothers small batch would have been a more comparable choice over the single barrel.
This is what I was wanting to comment as well. Proof point, price, and availability. The single barrel is way harder to find.
This.
I love it. And yes it’s shelf stable here.
The single barrel used to be super easy to find, idk what happened.
@@treytison1444 people wised up to what is actually in the bottle😊
Was actually at Hard Truth today to have lunch with my wife to celebrate our Valentines. My present was going to be a bottle of the 4 grain based on your first video about it. But I don't know if you were aware, their three new bourbons were not supposed to be released until tomorrow, Saturday the 17th. And in fact their official release at the distillery is tomorrow. There was a mix up with their distributors so some put it on the shelf early.
I like Kurt's original picks buff trace last than hard truth 3rd bardstown 2nd and John j b takes the chip
Ok Trent you're giving me hope. My son is struggling through school as well.
Did Trenton cut a chunk out of his hair? Lol
How do you plan on tenderizing that shoe? 😂
I love BT and its a mainstay. Hype and secondary make it unattractive to some, especially in NY and NYC but i stick with it when i can get it. Great video.
BT store picks are one of the best values in bourbon. Regular shelf BT is a bit boring but still better than Eagle Rare and Blantons, IMO
Good blind, but Bowman should probably have been small batch since it's a much closer comparison in proof and price. would also have put the Bardstown origin high rye 96p in instead of the only wheater in the blind.
john j is so hard to find
Is everything from BT Distillery allocated because they're all insanely popular, or is everything from BT Distillery insanely popular because it's all allocated? I firmly believe the latter is true. Good whiskey? Of course. But worth all the time, effort, money and grief? For me, absolutely not. The whiskey world is large and the hype is strong with Buffalo Trace.
At the right price, i don't think does it for me. I'm a newb, in my early days just a few years ago. I've had BT regular, OF orange and EW white and didn't like any of them. When would you go back a try them again. 5 years later? or never., You tell me. 101 is my every day all day.
Once again I think this (again, again) shows how way over-hyped BT is....They have created a demand by playing games w/the distribution, alocation etc. & that's too bad.
Excellent Friday blind. Great back and forth among the family. Will the shoe laces be served as the appetizer or the dessert?
I don’t understand the lineup or the title of the video. Why put Buffalo Trace against these and then call it overrated. Maybe title it can Buffalo Trace punch up against higher proof more expensive options. I enjoy your content on the regular but this seems like a miss. Have a good weekend.
I can find John j small batch or port barrel but that single barrel always escapes me
BT to me is a mixer. Shits awful for sipping. I can think of many other bourbons below $30 that blows it away.
It’s been great fun watching you folks..
Could you try this with your next blind? (If you haven’t already done so in previous blinds)
Try to do your blinds without knowing what brands you’re tasting… Kurt’s blinds would be picked by Trenton and Trenton’s by Kurt.. they don’t even need to be the same bottles.. palates are different anyway and it would be great to know the results of a true blind tasting as you’d have no information about what you’re tasting!! Your expectations are set before you taste otherwise because you know what bottles are on the table
I agree Buffalo Trace smells far better than it tastes. I still think it is one of the best for the price but it is so hard to find here in Pennsylvania.
Lately I have been really enjoying Four Roses Single Barrel. A solid $47 bottle in PA. 🥃
I finally found some EH Taylor form here in Florida for 50$ and it was great.
Buffalo Trace and Four Roses single barrel are my go to though.
Huge fan of John J Bowman single barrel. Keep BT in the bar mainly for guests. Really hope I can find the Hard Truth someday to try it.
I agree. I would put it up against Old Forrester 1910 and Angel’s Envy. Snagged a BT 1.5 which can be hard to find.
Fully expect Buffalo Trace to be last.
John J is the best by far out of this selection
Buffalo Trace is over rated. 🎉
Buffalo trace is so sweet. Yuck
I think if Trenton would concentrate he could pick out Canadian Hunter in a blind! Lol
I have been trying to get a bottle of John Jay Bowman single barrel ever since we were in Virginia Beach but with no luck. As you have stated and I heard the same thing from people at stores in Virginia that it was worth chasing down.
Yes it is worth chasing down. I have 4 bottles bc I have not seen it in my state for the last yr.
Have fun eating that shoe Trenton...bon Appétit!!😂😂😂😂😂
All good bottles however BT is much cheaper than the others. BT $27 in Chicago area.
Try EH Taylor Single Barrel vs this group....
We can get Buffalo Trace here for $26-30. I think it's pretty good. Not my fave by far.
Sooo... $23? Buffalo Trace vs $45 bottle (ok fine) vs John Single Barrel (which is supposed to be essentially the same as Blantons @ 100proof)... and a 100 proof $50 Bardstown? Kinda stacked against BT... and I say that as a guy who doesn't love BT. When I've blinded it; I find it's a top tier $25 whiskey... but $40-50 bottles easily beat it... and that's kind of what you proved here.
Just personally, I don't get Buffalo Trace or Eagle Rare
Buffalo Trace sells for 59.99 here where I am in NJ and Eagle Rare for $90 if you actually find it. Not a fan of either at that pricing for them.....but if they were MSRP I'd be more of a fan of the brand.
I went to the liquor store on my way home to get a bourbon. I was chatting with the guy about bourbon, then all of sudden he stopped and said
"Have you ever had Blantons?"
I said "no i haven't, but i know that one of those holy grail bourbons"
He said
"I got some last night, its expensive, but not bad at $149!"
Should i pay that?
I don't see any Hard Truth products in my area and Buffalo Trace products are very scarce. I regularly see Bowman Brothers small batch and cask finished and agree with another viewer's assessment that Bowman's small batch would have been a better comparison to Buffalo Trace. I recently acquired a John J Bowman single barrel and thought it was great, especially at the price point.
Buffalo Trace ??? Unobtainable here in Pennsylvania unless the PLCB has the occasional lottery on some of their higher end offerings. Odds are you will be struck by lightning before you ever get your hands on a Buffalo Trace product in PA.
What's really the value of this blind? a $25 bottle vs $50-60 bottles? You guys really have a beef with Buffalo Trace...
BT is not exactly prevalent around here (KC). I happened to find a bottle the other day. Had to spend $25 on other products to get it 🙄. But I did it anyway. Hadn’t had it for a while. When I took a taste…was like “ok, not bad”. Worth all the hype and hoops and ladders? Nope.
I guess the order for my palate to go Bowman, Bardstown Origin wheated, Buffalo Trace, and Hard Truth. I am an old guy, my palate is closer to Kurt's
Ya 20$ bottle vs 50$ plus bottles including John J Bowman single barrel. What a joke!
I don’t think BT is overrated/ overpriced in the US, in Sweden I can get it for appr 35-40 bucks, and that is a bit too much ...
Can Buffalo Trace beat more expensive bourbons? Only if they start training for the Bourbon Olympics!
Not an even blind with Bowman Single Barrel. This blind seems stacked for Bowman to win. Try keeping the blinds the same i.e. small batch vs small batch or single barrel vs. single barrel.
Maybe like proof and like price would be a better comparison. Love yalls content, but this isn't really a good blind.
Before watching... The only one i have had, is Buffalo Trace but I would hope it would be last because i don't care for it.
It’s easier to find Blanton’s, Eagle Rare and EH Taylor Small batch than John J Single Barrel in the Los Angeles area.
For some reason, I just can’t get into Buffalo Trace. I keep it on hand because other people like it, but I’m never reaching for it myself.
I love it when they don’t agree and they look at each other in disbelief.
I'm thinking a Shaq game worn shoe 😂 For the price I can't pass on a Buffalo 🥃 Cheers
This really isn’t a “blind” tasting when you already know the bottles going in. Process of elimination can be used to sway your selections. It should truly be blind and no, you shouldn’t be trying to guess what it is during the tasting. That goes away with a true blind too.
Buffalo Trace isn't overrated at all when compared to bourbons of a similar proof and price point.
Buffalo trace has taken last in every blind ive put it in. I know i dont like a lot of their whiskey, but it makes a lot of the obsession over it hard to understand.
I’m not an expert and have not tried Hard Truth or Bowman, but to my taste, Bardstown is so much better than BT. Hands down.
Bardstown white label!!!!!! It will take out Blanton's.
You should have don’t Bowman Brothers instead of John j..
The thing about blinds is that other bourbons can influence flavors for better or worse other bourbons. Because when I used to start off 1st with four roses barrel strength I wouldn’t enjoy it; however if I dranked a bourbon before the four roses barrel strength I would enjoy it more.
I like when you don't completely agree on the order. It shows the different pallets.
4.179/5 very specific rating 😂
What do you think of the bottle shot glass stoppers? I don't see any on your bottles. Do they give a measured ammount?
That Bardstown is my favorite 100 proofer, I prefer it to John J and BT. Have not had the hard truth.
Right there with you
Another fun blind. I envy the father son relationship.
Dress shoe or chuck taylor? Mmmm good
I use BT as a primer bourbon. Just picked up 4 bottles of BT Binny’s store picks this week for $29.99 each. I like the Hard Truth Wheated Bourbon BIB. All the other 3 you were comparing the BT to are $45-$50 each. 🥃
Yes, can't compare to BT when they cost 40% more.
what market area you located
@@frankarev4920 I live in North Central Illinois
@davevogelsang6791 I live in the city and interested if those BTs are still avail, depends on the exact location. I was out of town and it is Friday night
@@frankarev4920 The Rockford, IL location had some left Thursday, but did not go by there today (Friday). The other locations that I got them at were the Crystal Lake and Algonquin locations on Thursday.
Where are you guys at I live right near Albenese factory!
I want a blind of the same, generic shaped bottles.
Trenton "turned out ok" bar is low.. jk, we all know that you are ok ;)
cost bases: Buffalo Trace is $26 all the others are near about 2x.
trying to figure out why a wheated bib bardstown is in here over white label origin.
Bardstown black label origin is by far my favorite of this line up
Does yours have a bitter, almost peppery finish? I feel like I want to get another bottle and see if the batch I have was a fluke. I know Fred minick said he got the same thing, but I haven't seen any reviews mention it.
@@Usonian7 Mine doesn’t. It’s more of a peach cobbler taste to me.
@@1030Blake I'll have to get another one. The one have is an amazing start, it's tastes like buttered sugar bead which is amazing, but then a pepper finish.
@m7sharp I don’t get that I get blackberry cobbler up front then very little pepper on the finish
Or bardstown in more blinds. I what to see white label!!
The hard truth… that I would not spend money on any of these bottles…
Didn’t LA Beast actually try to eat a shoe?😂
Trenton just gave a new meaning to foot in your mouth 😅
I totally disagree with your title. BT is not overrated - especially for $27! It’s a super entry level bourbon that is inexpensive and always available (at least here). And store picks really kick it up a notch!
And when is the last time I saw a JJB SiB on the shelf? Never!
Trenton, Trenton, Trenton. Stop trying to guess what they are. LOL
Way to go Kurt for just being “in the moment” enjoying what is what right now!!
Trent is hilarious- he's a Dude!
Haha Love me some Albanese!! 🥳🍭🍬🍫🍡
This seems like SLBs first blatant click bait video and it worked. Putting a $25 bottle against 3 other 50 dollar bottles and it even beat one of them lol. Come on guys get more creative or take time off to think .
You're right, looking at it i'm not happy with how this was initially presented. Going to revisit the thumbnail and title. Thanks for calling us out on this Rocky. - Trenton
Bowman’s BP is my daily pour
Hard truth sweet mash is awesome
I Like to guess bottles in blinds. I don’t mind if you do too.
Don’t understand a Wheated in that lineup
JJB, Origin, BT, other one.
I like BT just fine, but predicting Bardstown BiB to come in last? 😮
I haven’t had the John J Bowman, but Bowman Brothers small batch is virtually BT so I would have included it instead. Hard Truth isn’t available here, I think.
I agree with Kurt on Buffalo Trace “it’s a one-noter”. I have not had the other 3.
It's a Bardstown>BT/HardTruth
😂😂 BT price wise FUH SURE
Trenton looks like he got his puppy kicked @19:50 😂
Really surprised Trenton predicted Bardstown last.
I love Bowman small batch and I just got my first JJB and I am hoping it’s as good as everyone says it is

Not even a fair fight. JJ Bowman is a peak aged barrel of BT mashbill 1/2. Comparable to a EH Taylor single barrel or Blanton's, aged 8-9 years. BT is a 6-8 year blend of mashbill 1. Bardstown was their wheater, not the rye bourbon also. Buffalo Trace, as a 6-8 yr blend, is comparable to WT 101 or Knob Creek 9 or Old Forester 100 or Cooper Craft 100. I guess my point is the JJ Bowman is sort of a higher category of bourbon than the others. Also to be considered, Buffalo Trace and Bowman Bros taste almost identical, except one is really easy to find.
100% with Kurt’s philosophy on blinds. It would even be better without knowing what the bottles are to eliminate preconceived ideas.
It would be awesome if we could get the same bottles as you guy's for just the currency difference between Australia and America! The Bowman in Australia starts around $180, I got Buffalo Trace a couple of weeks ago for $62, normal Jack daniels and Jim Beam is around $55, I've been saving for Michters, it starts around $120 here, Wild Turkey Rare Breed cost me $115 and Elijah Craig small batch was $96! Our taxes in Australia for alcohol is crazy, even our local Whiskeys are around $70+
Guess
Would love to see a DOUBLE OAKED blind with Woodford reserve and 1910😎!!!
Trenton keep the guesses coming!
I lucked into an Isaac Bowman, twice.... Believe it's finished in port barrels.... The Bowman Brothers is pretty good as well. I now added John's S.B. I'm always taking notes during your show, along with M&D and IBN.
THANKS FOR THE INFO AND ENTERTAINMENT.... Learning Laughing... Can't beat it!
Buffalo Trace is a good mixing bourbon for cocktails and that’s about it. We get it for MSRP in Ohio ($25) but it’s allocated here and people go nuts over it.. Old Forester 100 proof is readily available for a similar price and makes a good bourbon cocktail and has become mu go to mixing bourbon.
Remember, Buffalo Trace is a $24 bottle. For those who love sweeter bourbon, it’s a banger. Worth the hype at MSRP.
