I got a standard bottle of Eagle rare 10 year and it’s fine, just fine. Nothing special and definitely not worth all the crazy hype. Good value for $35 and under though.
All eagle rare are single barrels so the product does differ bottle to bottle. I really didn’t care for my first bottle of eagle rare so much that it put me off from buying another for years. Loved the second bottle so much I bought two more 😅
I love this channel so much. Thanks for sharing your love of whiskey with me. I’m envious of Trent’s relationship with his pops. Please recognize how amazing this is, young man.
At MSRP it's always a buy. When I first got into Bourbon 7-8 years ago it was my go to buy since having hundreds of other bottles it's just another decent pour. I always have a couple bottles on hand and sip it occasionally. I mainly use it for a gateway pour for newbies now. Plenty of other $30-$40 bottles out there I would rather sip.
Eagle rare used to be labeled a Single barrel but when BTD added it to their automated bottling line they removed it from the label due to the small amount of mingling of barrels when they add another barrel to the bottling vat/hopper in the bottling line.
Yup I still have 2 empty bottles of it from a decade ago...nice big 'single barrel' label on the front and the '10 year' age statement labeled up by the cap/cork
Great review. I have only had a couple of bottles of Eagle Rare and both were very good. Grape was the predominant note for both. I have been looking for a store pick for some time thinking they would always be way better. Now not so much. Thanks
ER10 is $70 here in Western NY. BT is $45. The other day I walked into a small store just to see what they had - they had sh*t and it was all overpriced AF, but the kid behind the counter saw me looking at the bourbon, so he pulled out a hidden bottle of BT and tried to sell it to me for $64.99 LMAO. I'm not a plumber, but that's some sh*t right there.
Love your show. Thanks for all the reviews. I just polished off an ER last night and came to the same conclusion. Just not all that interesting. It’s $40-$43 in N GA and pretty easy to find. Thanks to you two I now maintain over 60 different bourbons and ryes in my collection. For the money I think I’d rather get a Green River or Makers Cask Strength over an ER.
Any pointers on where you find it? I got a bottle from Village Spirits in Flowery Branch but I'm a bit further west and rather not make that commute if I don't need to.
My wife and I are fortunate in that we live within reasonable driving distance from BTAC. I have three bottles from different 'barrels' of Eagle Rare in my collection and I can certainly attest that one of the bottles tastes significantly better than the other two. My original bottle was a shelf pick from a local store, cost me $70 at the time and was absolutely delicious. My other two were purchased from the distillery, cost me $45 ea and were similar to the two that came in 2nd and 3rd in this tasting. I have yet to have one that didnt taste like anything like the 4th place bottle. I will continue to drive to the distillery every 90 days to get my allotment of Eagle Rare I like it that much. Love your videos. due to your distance and state difference I find I cannot get some of the assortment you guys can but your videos are entertaining and I love the banter. Keep up the good work.
Eagle Rare is good, but it never blew me away. Used to buy it all the time for around $36-$40. I haven't see one in years in the Chicagoland area. My buddy who is a big fan of it just found a bottle in Las Vegas for $75 and brought it back in his luggage.
Love Eagle Rare. Mad that here in UK, ER and BT are easily available at £30 and £18. It's great that you show that store picks can be hit or miss. I once paid double for a BT pick and even with 5% extra proof, barely noticed difference.
Great channel and great reviews! We appreciate what you both do. Eagle Rare is a excellent bourbon that you don't have to over pay for from Buffalo Trace. We see it around the $45 - $50.00 dollars a bottle in Georgia. I think it is one of the best 90 proof bourbons available on the market for the money.
It's true. I'm in Georgia too and can go right now where I know they have it on the shelf for $42 right now. Just bought another one on Monday. It's the store picks I would like to find.
Found one earlier this year setting on shelf after a delivery without a price marking yet. Took it up to manager/owner who was working the register asked what was he selling it for, looked down his MSRP I think it was mid $40, so I bought it. Still setting on my shelf unopened waiting for what? I don’t know. It’s only the second ER I have seen on a shelf. Hopefully it’s better than just brown water. Great video as usual!
I recently picked up a few bottles of ER10. I paid 80 each and i'm happy I did! It is a phenomenal pour, and you guys are my favorite to watch and I trust your reviews! Cheers!!
Also if I’m not mistaken ER and BT picks are done at barrel proof then taken down to 90 before they’re bottled and sent out. Could be why you get those weird bad ones.
They proof it to 90 when you taste it. But they let us try it straight out of the barrel when we asked. I got to do an ER and BT pick a few years ago. Had a choice of 3 barrels each.
Great job Gentleman. Please keep the Glen’s on the bar top when sampling. Enjoy seeing the juice in the glass. Thank you for all your time and efforts with the weekly content. Cheers.
Eagle Rare was my gateway bourbon when I was a poor student in college and splurged. When you could get it for $25-30. I think it’s still worth about that, but not much more than that.
Most stores in my area sell this for 100 bucks on their little allocated shelf, but one of the stores in my company sells it for 60, but the trade-off is we don't get it in nearly as much as the bigger stores in the area. I don't mind occasionally dropping 60 bucks on this. It's by far not the worst deal for an allocated bourbon. And i do love a brown sugar cherry bomb
Its nice to know you guys are in Illinois or im assuming if you were talking about midway and cicero. At least I now know prices are the same as what you guys are saying. I just started getting into whiskey and bourbon, never really drank before and its kind of a cool hobby in a way. Got some cheaper whiskey to try and enjoyed it, just picked up a double oak woodford off your recommendation and I love it, the smell is exactly like you guys describe and tastes wonderfull.
Drinking this right now. This bourbon drink is a delightful experience with its rich blend of flavors. I'm picking up distinct apple notes that add a crisp sweetness, complemented by subtle hints of cherry that lend a touch of complexity. The combination creates a harmonious taste that truly makes this bourbon stand out. Cheers to savoring every sip!
wow! I saw it at a bar once so I decided to overpay and get a 2oz pour for $22. I really liked it but I wouldn't pay more than $50 for a bottle and I wouldn't buy a bar pour again@@80thdiv313fa
Eagle Rare will always hold a special place in my heart. My background is in craft beer and later in wine. Don't drink much beer these days, still love wine. When i first got into spirits it was whiskey all the way for me - bourbon in particular. The first bottles of liquor I ever purchased were Eagle Rare 10 and Angel's Envy (that Frangelico debacle doesn't count 😅). Eagle Rare is one I will always pick up when I find it at a reasonable price. Problem is I can't find it under $90 anymore.
From what I have heard over the years, multiple times, the barrels are dumped individually during bottling, so for the most part, it for all intents and purposes, you are getting juice from one barrel. Of course, the ending of one barrel and the dumping of the next, overlap, but it's not a batch of X amount of barrels dumped into a vat and then bottled.
Enjoy your comments. Any Bourbon is worth the price if you like it!. Ancient Age from Buffalo Trace is the best they have penny for penny. Back before the Bourbon explosion, they had Ancient Ancient Age 10 year! $14.95 at. BINNY'sS. Maker's Mark Barrel Proof *36.95 at BINNY'S. Anything from Jim Beam. My favorites!
It is a shame that prices have shot up so much lately due to inflation and the whiskey bubble - but, I absolutely stand behind Eagle Rare all the way. It just hits all the right notes at a great value point, in my book.
I own a regular ER and love it. Probably top 10, maybe even top 5 for me. Last weekend I had a chance to taste an ER store pick at a friend's house. Wow...was it great and even better than the regular. It was a few years old.
The store picks are a great value that used to be even better. I still have a 1.75L Eagle Rare pick from a local store that is my favorite pick I've ever had. Scored it during a dollar days sale back in 2017 for only 46 bucks, lol.
Great video, keep up the great content, you two are great. I just picked up my first Eagle Rare and while it is somewhat difficult to find here in Oregon, I only paid $39, not too bad. I am a newbie Bourbon/Whiskey drinker, so much like you starting out Kurt, I still lean towards something sweet. I'm kind of enjoying the Knob Creek Smoked Maple, maybe a flavored review is in order for us "Youngsters".
I just scored my first 2 bottles of Eagle Rare. I’m excited to try it. I just opened a Old Ezra 7. It is good. It is pretty high proof, great on the nose. Love the channel!
Totally agree with you on store picks - necessarily great barrels, just the best that was offered. You also showed the variability across a brand. Enjoy all your videos.
I just recently killed a shelf Eagle Rare that for a time sat at about the same level as Kurt’s now sits. I called her Sweet Tart’s and she was delicious! She is missed around these parts. Inspired to sip an Eagle Rare this evening. Just pulled the cork on a freshie! Great video! (as always!!)
When I did the tour at BT they told us that all ER is single barrel they just can't call it that because they don't clean the lines out between barrels.
It's one of the bottles that is very easy to find in England (bigger grocery shops) for £32-40. And some store picks come over here for about £55 which are amazing. So, for me, yes, Eagle Rare will be that easier sipper that will always be in my drinks cabinet.
@detroyt232323 I live in the UK and there are people on here also from the UK. We use pounds versus dollars, and I am not going to try to figure out the exchange rate. It just allows you to see the unit amount.
@theukyankee RUclips is American, the guys that made this video are American, and oh, the most important part BOURBON is American 🇺🇸. Get with the program 🤦🏼♂️
Not sure if things have changed in the bottling process, but aren't most Eagle Rare bottles single barrels? I was under the impression that they dump 1 barrel at a time for bottling, but the last line of bottles that aren't filled to the top will get bourbon from the next barrel dumped as well. Has that process changed?
That is my understanding as well. All ER is basically single barrel. They just don't flush the equipment between bottles so they can't technically call it a single barrel.
They changed the single barrel 10 year, to a 10 year. That means the mix at barrels of 10 years or less. I don't think bottles say single barrel anymore.
@josegr9280 they don't say SiB any more because of the bottling method they couldn't call it a SiB any longer since a handful of bottles would have the contents of 2 barrels.
Had no idea these guys are in the Midwest/Chicago area. Which surprises me with all the things they are able to find. It's hard out here to get the good stuff, especially at reasonable prices. I recently picked up a 2nd bottle of Eagle Rare 10, which is what I was waiting for so I could enjoy my first bottle without having to worry about making it last. I really enjoyed it. Is it worth it? Hell yeah. Especially if you pay msrp. But I will say that if you have to pay up for it, it would still be worth it. As long as you don't pay too much. I personally would not pay over $60 for it. I paid $50 for the bottle I just cracked open. And its great. The bottle I just picked up I paid $38 for it. I am very pleased with it. It's pretty strong. Worth the hype in my opinion.
When I go into one of my regular OR stores I always ask if they have gotten and Eagle Rare because it is never on the shelf. And quite often they will go in the back and get me a bottle. I just finished one last night and still have three on the shelf. I don't horde it, I share it. Still selling for $36.95.
Lol on D; I’m wondering if someone has been dipping in the bottle. Maybe replaced with the brown mouthwash. For me I was able to buy a bevmax store pick for $40.
I’ve recently got into bourbon. I’m happy to be able to get eagle rare for 35$. It’s a great great value bourbon at that price, and I’m happy that it was one of my first bourbons
Crazy to hear you talking about Cicero. I grew up in that area a long time ago. Being in TX now, I miss Binnys and being able to buy liquor in any grocery store or gas station. I have three bottles of ER sitting on my shelves that I just haven't even gotten around to opening yet, I loved it when I tried it at a bar but haven't gotten back to the ER bottles to open. Guess I need to change that this week.
Have a store pick bottle of Eagle Rare. It’s excellent stuff. Got it for $50 with the store pick. You can get a regular bottle for $35, if you can get one when they come out
Thats Awesome, I did a similar blind, different store picks of course, and the standard eagle rare won for me too. Also did one with buffalo trace store picks and same result. thanks for the validation...lol!
Your reaction to the Binny's pick (sugar water) was my impression the first time I tried ER. The same bottle tasted so much better on other nights with oak and more complexity, and became my go-to for a while. I've had a similar experience with other bottles as well, but not to such an extreme. For 10 yr bourbon, though, I'm picking up Russell's Reserve before ER. I'll be comparing ER, RR, WJ and HM 10 yr all side by side in the next couple of weeks.
If you can find it for MSRP it's probably the best bottle for the $$ you can find. Most liquor stores here in So Cal will mark it up to around $80, but I've had luck finding it at Total Wine and BevMo for ~$35 (gotta be persistent) to where I always have some on-hand without over-paying.
ER is my go to bourbon. Open a new bottle and I have never been impressed. Open it, and get some air in the bottle for a month or six and it really shines and is to me the best. A old half full bottle is best in my opinion
Just picked up an Eagle Rare this morning before watching this video, the profile method buffalo Trace employs may be the best way to go! Never disappointed. Buy the way its $40.00 when it’s available here in Sarasota ❤😊
The first ER I ever had tasted like candied oak. I was transported to candy land and took a big ol’ bite out of one of the oak trees. The sugary bark disintegrated in my mouth as it dripped with maple syrup. I’ve enjoyed every bottle I’ve acquired, some more than others, but I’m still chasing that first one!
I picked up a eagle rare like 2 years ago, and did not like it. It was about 30 bucks, but I have always wanted to try again. Now that I know more about bourbon. Thanks guys
Living in PA. where the state runs the show, we rarely see any bourbon of note. Bottles like Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, Blanton's, Stagg etc. are non-existent. Store picks? LOL! Allocated bourbon? Nope. I have to leave the state to find anything noteworthy. Keep up the good work guys. Love the channel.
I used to enjoy Eagle Rare but my last bottle was so bad I could only use it for cocktails. (It was a store pick) Not sure if it was stored incorrectly as it sat unopened for a year but it was flat
Got one for msrp in richmond, it’s a dud for me. I love buffalo trace but my bottle of Eagle Rare just does not have it going on. Might try some water one day but it’s only 45%!
The Binny's Eagle Rare store pick was delicious! I also have a 1.75L bottle of Kenwood's Eagle Rare store pick as well, but from their Homer Glen location, not Oak Lawn on 95th St.
I paid $70 for a bottle 2 weeks ago here in NJ - it can go as low as $60, but the days of $30 ER are long past. I can think of a few $70 retail bottles that cannot match the ER.
750mL sell for $38 here in Vermont. Love the stuff! Every bottle I ever have has those lovely cherry notes and a little bit of chocolate at the end. Too funny Kurt with the mouth wash analogy!
@@michaelrodgers940 Cheers!!!! I've been watching these gents for a couple of years now. Learn a ton from them just never signed up for any of their subscriptions. Reckon I should do that by now :D
Lots of comments for this one so I hope I don't repeat others. What's not mentioned and certainly the most important fact of this tasting is that the 10 year age statement on the neck is quite an older bottling. It did not surprise me it came out on top. Just another example of the degradation of quality over the years. Recent Barrel pics will not stand up to quality of distillate that was made back in the day. I imagine that the lower entry proof that distilleries are experimenting with will make for a better offering in 5 to 10 years from now. Great video!
I don’t do single barrels much anymore. I would hope that the master blender could blend a bunch of barrels into something better than almost all of the single barrels. If not then why are they there?
up in canada here, normally eagle rare up here is between 70 and 100 bucks(Canadian)my bottle has a cocoa smell with a slight citrus twank that is sweet, always a good pour, keep up the solid work guys
Last month, October, my wife and I each bought one at Buffalo Trace for $40.00 +tax. We really like ER10. Buffalo Trace normal, is very good. Russell res 10yr is good. MM46 is nice Knob Creek 9, A store up the road had a store pick Eagle Rare 17 year for $2150.I laughed, it may be still there.
Grabbed one for $69.99 in southern KY, $10-$30 less than I’ve seen them around Knoxville, TN and the store had 6-8 bottles and a bunch of EH Taylor and Blantons @ $109.
Makers, woodford, and Eagle Rare were always my go to bottles at the start of my bourbon adventure. I’ve had several ER store picks over the years… None have ever really stood out or been much better/different than a regular bottle to me. I’d much rather have a 4 roses or makers store pick over these tbh
The only bottle on my States liquor website has a clear etched bottle w/o that black or blue label I see in most videos. Is there a difference? I can't find any details about them.
Guys, Eagle Rare is as close to a single barrel without being a single barrel. The only reason they took the single barrel label off of Eagle Rare is because the way their bottling machine works, for Eagle Rare specifically (don't know why they changed this... Maybe just to get more volume out), you may get the end of one barrel and the start of another in a bottle. Most bottles are single barrels, but they can't put it on the label, since the bottling process is now automated.
Brown sugar always get these little clumps that look like it was melted. those are the best part. Them talking about it has brought the flavor note into my mind with a couple of brands that I've had recently.
I was fortunate to get a 10 year ER the price was definitely more than I would usually spend and after having it for 8 months and tasting it off and on over that time I wish I hadn't spent the $$ I did and stuck to my search for bourbon whiskey's under $50! I have found many many bourbon whiskey's in my search price range that are so much better than ER! I share my good with friends I share my ER with people that are acquaintances! they are more impressed with the name ER than the actual taste!
I had a couple bottles a decade ago...back then Eagle Rare was all 'single barrels' and '10 year old'. They were quite good for a 30 dollar bottle. I guess they don't have them as single barrels anymore. I also remeber when they went away from teh 10 year age statement but then brought that back.
Really liked this blind, I can get eagle rare on the shelf and this helped me decide that it's my next bottle, I didn't want to give into the hype but I'm glad there are good bottles out there 🤘
It took me awhile to really get where I liked Trenton. (the bigger T-shirts helped ;) But I still find myself extremely jealous of him sometimes. It's not fair... Dude has The World's Coolest Father! And gets all the good juice!
I can find this time to time at under $40 so I buy a bottle every time I come across it. I did pick up a store pick recently for $70 but haven’t opened it yet. They are well worth the money to me.
I have found that Eagle Rare varies so much bottle to bottle. I have had some incredible bottles and some really not great ones. I think that's why its such a debated bottle of Bourbon.
I got a bottle like D before, and actually sent it back to Buffalo Trace for a refund. Their people said the taste still fit the Eagle Rare profile, however I don't see how. It tasted like brown water, or water that had a little bit of ground coffee in it. I haven't bought ER since.
Loved the second bottle so much I bought two more 😅
Trenton’s dedication to expanding his taste profile is remarkable. Caked on road snow haha.
And he never uses mouthwash.
I feel like he licked a lot of stuff as a kid 😂

Agreed. I wish I could do this with my father.

Am I the only one thinks the one bottle looks like it has a giant Russell cork in it? Love your content, keep up the good work.
Before I read this comment I was wondering why it had a big white stopper on it😂😂
I think it just has the silver wrapper completely removed.
😂 yup!

I've consistently have been finding this for around $30 . I pick one up every time i see one.
So funny this video dropped today, I was able to get an eagle rare store pick today in MN, and the price was only $37.99!!
ER is my go to primer before I sip the higher proof bottles and those store picks 👌🏻
Cheers to that! 🥃
Can you write in US dollars? Nobody here understands those prices. Thanks!
@@detroyt232323 LOL. Now I know you're trolling me. Have a great weekend.
Came here to say this!
They changed the single barrel 10 year, to a 10 year. That means the mix at barrels of 10 years or less. I don't think bottles say single barrel anymore.
That was actually shown to be false
@josegr9280 they don't say SiB any more because of the bottling method they couldn't call it a SiB any longer since a handful of bottles would have the contents of 2 barrels.
Watching today's blind video and my Still Austin showed up at my door. Thank you very much. Can't wait to try it later this afternoon.
How many bottles can you get out of a barrel? Wish we could find eagle rare up around Northern Indiana.
Still getting it regularly here in CA for $33-$37, needless to say I am stocking up.
where? I live in san diego and cant find it under $80

By me in NY, 30 min out of the city a bottle is 70ish. Standard. Got one for 60 today and it was a good deal.
You can get a regular bottle for $35, if you can get one when they come out
This was the first decent bourbon I ever tried. Mostly Ryes before trying this. It was quite nice. Angels Envy is my go too now.
$37 about 6-8 times per year at the locals in MT. I buy it every time I have a chance. The bunker is strong right now.
ER is one of my favorites when I can find it.
Really enjoy ER. It’s allocated here in Maryland so can’t get it very often.
Just picked up an Eagle Rare this morning before watching this video, the profile method buffalo Trace employs may be the best way to go! Never disappointed. Buy the way its $40.00 when it’s available here in Sarasota ❤😊
Eagle Rare 10yr Store pick is phenomenal! My local cigar lounge has it for $15 a pour and its sooooooo tasty.
I like Kenwood Liquor. It’s a good spot. Friendly staff and great selection!
SLB team Vt. First time I’ve seen another Vermonter commenting on here, 🥃Cheers
@@michaelrodgers940 Cheers!!!! I've been watching these gents for a couple of years now. Learn a ton from them just never signed up for any of their subscriptions. Reckon I should do that by now :D

It's $50 in my area and not too difficult to find. Much prefer 1920 or Woodford Double Oaked for a few bucks more.
I have a store pick from a store in Oshkosh, WI and its dominant note is green apple jolly rancher. It is very good.
Here in BC I generally find it around $67 before tax though it only shows up around twice a year.
ER is one of my favorite lower proof bourbons. I picked up a store pick that was excellent.
Good to see my fellow CPU over here!
I'm pretty sure this is a miscommunication. ER is indeed small batch. The facility where ER bottled is not set up for single barrel bottling.
Eagle Rare is one of the best 10 year old Bourbons around. Good Stuff! I paid $60 for mine.
Do they really do picks at cask strength? I can’t find information on this anywhere
Really liked this blind, I can get eagle rare on the shelf and this helped me decide that it's my next bottle, I didn't want to give into the hype but I'm glad there are good bottles out there 🤘
I'm not sure if you cracked these open, but is there any chance some teenagers took some of the 4th bottle and refilled the bottle with water?
LOL, I kinda want to know how you got the used snow/ road salt flavor profile.
It took me awhile to really get where I liked Trenton. (the bigger T-shirts helped ;) But I still find myself extremely jealous of him sometimes. It's not fair... Dude has The World's Coolest Father! And gets all the good juice!
$60 around here in South GA.
At Chicago stores in my area they are marked up to $80. I never get lucky enough to find them at a place like Binnys.
I personally like Eagle Rare and it was 31.99 a bottle pre pandemic and now if you can find a bottle it's 35.99 here in Michigan at my local store .
What store is that? Mine has been taxing!
I find it locally for 29.99 to 35.99 on the last couple bottles I bought in last couple months. None were store picks.
I can find this time to time at under $40 so I buy a bottle every time I come across it. I did pick up a store pick recently for $70 but haven’t opened it yet. They are well worth the money to me.
It’s always nice when you have the best dog in the race👍🏾
I have found that Eagle Rare varies so much bottle to bottle. I have had some incredible bottles and some really not great ones. I think that's why its such a debated bottle of Bourbon.
I got a bottle like D before, and actually sent it back to Buffalo Trace for a refund. Their people said the taste still fit the Eagle Rare profile, however I don't see how. It tasted like brown water, or water that had a little bit of ground coffee in it. I haven't bought ER since.
I purchased a bottle of Eagle Rare about a year ago and I found it lackluster at best.
How much do you think the bottle costs to make?
